It's been fine for me
I live on the third floor and like any apartment complex, I've had some issues but overall it has been fine. I've lived in worse so I guess I'm coming from a different point of view. Cons: The one complaint I do have is maintenance. Most of the time they come when called but sometimes I have to call in a second or third time to get something fixed. The one constant problem I have been having the 2 years I've been here is a foul smell when I turn on the AC. They've come in to spray it but it returns. It doesn't need deodorizing, someone needs to find out what the source of the problem is. I'll call in another one because the smell is still there. When I have guests over, they definitely notice the smell and it is embarrassing. The other complaint are the rent increases. They are not small, so let's just keep it at that. And then there are some other things like the repair on the roof and the water shut downs and the elevator repairs. They are irritating but hey, that's apartment living for you. Not worth it!
The bus to Rice and the med center was the incentive which caused us to move in, but we got robbed of about $4000 worth of items and throughout our stay many others in the complex were robbed as well. Security is non-existent and first floor apartments are easy to break into. Staff was rude. Stay away.

ok
this place is average. There were some security problems while I was there. Someone got robbed. A car was stolen. Management expects you to pay extra for a covered spot eventhough these spots are any safer. While I was there, there were several occasions where mysterious "residents" would ask me for a ride to the store. Management was somewhat quick to respond. The front gate barely ever worked. Contrary to several of the posts, management staff was always fairly helpful, with the exception of one staff member who made my life miserable after I encountered some problems with my apartment. She represented a total lapse in professionalism and respect and treated me in a very condescending manner when I trying to behave as professional as possible.

The apartment complex is very quiet though, and with the exception of those incidents listed before was ok to live in. Location was good, but if you actually want to get around the city beyond the med center/rice village area, look to live elsewhere because this place is nowhere near a highway. These apartments held up nicely for the most part and were aā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Too many maintenance problems
There are always repairs of water, electricity, etc. And the parking garage construction is an inconvenience. It's not worth the money anymore.

Let's Be Fair.....
The majority of Management was very fair. They were fair at letting us pay fees that were still owed when we ended our lease early and fair at taking care of our complaints while living there and fair when we left. I do agree that there were a couple of the people in the office that should have been sent down the road packing.

Two things I advise.

First is to read your lease agreement, it is usally the same as any apartment complex and then ask what is considered normal wear and tear, each complex could have diffrent meanings.

Second is to take care of your apartmet. Don't let yourself, your animals or children; "which can sometimes be one in the same", tear up the apartment and you won't incur any extra fees....

Maintenance was always as prompt as could be expected. They were mainly dealing with spoiled college students that were not taking care of the property and who should have been sent packing along with those couple of people that was in the office.

The couple of the management staff that was the problem was of the same age group as theā¦Ā See More>clarr

A good place to live
My wife and I have lived here for a year and just renewed our lease. All calls to management have been quickly and couteously handled. The location is great -a nice, safe neighborhood and close to all the spots that make Houston great. The price is excellent considering the quality and location. I haven't had any experiences like those of the bad reviews. This place is a great place to live.

Seems great!
Wow, all these other reviews seem like they come from another apartment! My stay has been great and I've not had one single problem. Rent is high, but you're in the med center so it's a given.

Very happy - highly recommended!!!
I have lived here for the past 4 1/2 years and am extremely satisfied with management, maintenance and this community! It's such a unique apartment complex (we have our own little convienent store), great location, friendly staff, and cleanly kept landscaping! When I moved to Houston this apartment complex was highly recommended by several people and I've very thankful for their advice.....I have loved making my home here! I would definately recommend this community to anyone!

Nasty
This place is an eyesore. The front they have running down Brompton that disguises their parking area is dilapidated and falling apart. It's embarrassing.

Incompetent Management
I moved to Brompton Court apartments when it was still owned by Archstone Smith. I should have moved out as soon as the new management took over. Luckily for me, only 2 months after the new management took over I was able to negotiate my way out of the lease because of their shear negligence in maintaining common areas of the complex. I am not a "demanding" resident by any means, but the neglect of the common areas was actually a health and safety concern. I spoke with management about this issue on numerous occasions and even worked with them to try to figure out how to remedy the situation, but in the end they did NOTHING about it at all. If they are so incompetent to deal with major issues like the safety of their residents, imagine what will happen when a resident just needs something minor (i.e. they will ignore your requests).

woefully incompetent managment
The actual facilities and location of this complex are great. However, it seems the sole purpose of the new management is to keep you from enjoying your time here.

First off, they are extreamly slow. I have an average wait time of at least 10 min whenever I visit the office, and there is always a line of people unhappily waiting for the one helper while the others talk an laugh in the back. You will have to endure this once amonth to find out how much your rent is (it changes every month due to the water bill) and any time you get a package, not to mention if you should ever need maintence.
Also, the shuttle, which should be the prime draw to this complex, has recently been rerouted (along with a price increase) by the new managment. We now pick up people from another complex after we get on in the morning, and drop them off before we get off in the evening. Today (12/4/06) I was on the bus from BCM for 45 minutes. It's only 2 miles from BCM to this complex. But due to taking other people home first it took 45 min. Iā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Yes, the WILL TOTALLY SCREW YOU ON MOVE-OUT. Read very carefully the review below about being sent to collections when, in fact, you owe NOTHING-EVEN WITH PROOF!! They are back-stabbing theives. Crooks. I would never recommend this place to anyone--ever.

this place is horrible. management is so slow and will not honor your request unless you physically come into the leasing office at least once a week until you get it. i was overcharged on the water/sewer bill for almost a year and didn't get the difference back until i was literally moving out of the place. the kitchen sink backed up twice and destroyed the kitchen. my roommate's bathtub also backed up a handful of times. we thought we were getting such a good deal at first, but we found out it was not worth it in the end.

We stayed there 6 months and there were so much problems.
Main problem is that their accountant and management staffs are incompetent.

The whole summer, we could not sleep. A pretty good experience
I lived in the apartments about a year, and for the most part, had a good experience. I lived on a first floor unit, and surprisingly, it never flooded. I moved out b/c I took a job in another city. I had one experience which made me furious, and I will detail that below. Also, most of my living in this apt. was done under the "old" management, so things might be different with the "new" mgmt. I know one convenience that was taken away was online rent pay. Positives and negatives are outlined below.

Positives:

-Cheap shuttle service to the medical center, which can be very handy to students/workers.

-Very convenient (and safe) location--close to Rice Village, Reliant, Med Center, shopping and major highways (without being *too* close).

-Huge, spacious apartment. Wonderful walk-in closet. It makes units I've been looking at recently seem *so* tiny.

-Ample parking, both covered and non-covered (at least, this was true around the building that I lived).

-I felt very safe there as a single woman living on the first floor. Never noticed any suspicious activity, and neither car nor apartment was broken into.

-Office staff tried to remember names. Generally had positive expereinces with office staff, thoughā¦Ā See More>apartment_guru

Billing problems
Their billing is very convuluted. They have overcharged me on items and sent me incorrect bills. It is very difficult to fix. I lived in my apartment for nearly 2 years and many things were falling apart. When maintenance work had to be done due to a water leak, they attempted to fix the problem at least 5 tims. Finally they called in a contractor who left a hole in my wall and destroyed many of my personal possessions in my bathroom. This place is a dump with poor billing. I would not recommend it. Go to some other apartments in the neighborhood.

Too much money for no service...........
I have lived at this community for 24 months. Archstone left this complex after hurricane Rita. Please consider the following before you decide to move here:

1. It is in a low lying area next to a Bayou that drains a part of the city. All apartments on the first floor got flooded during hurricane Allison. When Rita came the management sent notices to every one to flee. I had to salvage everything I could and fly to NYC which was an extremely expensive nightmare.

2. Every time you renew your lease they try to increase the rent by 10%.

3. They no longer offer direct deposit for your monthly rent like Archstone did; you have to write a check each month.

4. Be prepared to pay $25 for your water, gas and sewage bill each month per person. Off course you still pay for the heating of your own apartment separately as part of your monthly electricity bill.

Over all the impression I got is that the new management is excessively greedy. I will not recommend this complex to anyone.

Awful!!!
This place is a disaster! Management is terrible. The people working in this complex is very friendly until you rent the apartment. However, afterwards, they don't give a s--- about your requests! You have to knock on their door at least for 10 times before they respond to your requests. I had all kind of problems in my place and for most of them they never showed up to fix these problems!
Stay away from this place and get your self a decent apartment by paying same $$ for rent.
We have been very happy here.
We are impressed with the prompt service we get when we need any kind of maintenance in our apartment Also, there is never any noise from one apartment to the next. The staff here is amazingly cooperative and friendly. Although these apartments were built many years ago, they are superior in many ways to all the newer ones ... the rooms are bigger and storage within the units is better than in the newer ones. We would recommend to anyone who wants comfort, quick response when needing help, lovely surroundings (the upkeep of the property in general is excellent), and at reseonable rent, that they shouldmove in here. Oh yes, and the location is exceelent ... so convenient for shopping with 5 gocery stores within minutes, the Rice Village, plenty of restaurants, etc. etc.

Great Location and Pet Friendly!
I have lived here for 9 months and I plan on renewing my lease in August. It is very convenient to the Medical Center and Rice University. I own two large dogs and the apartment managers are always happy to see them. People here are very good about cleaning up after their pets. The management does a nice job keeping the landscaping lush and responding to problems. I have had two or three issues with my apartment and they were fixed either that day or the day after. Management is very friendly and helpful and remember who you are, which is impressive considering that there are over 700 apartments at this complex. The only complaint I have is that there are fees for water, gas, and sewer, which adds approximately $50 onto the listed rent price, but from what I have heard that is true everywhere. If you work in the Medical Center and have dogs, this may be the place for you!

Awful!
I lived here for one year and it was terrible. My A/C went out all the time, the windows leaked and my bike got stolen. Lots of cars were always getting broken in to. Then the office staff misplaced my moveout notice and tried to charge me for an extra month of rent.

Average at best
We moved here a few months ago and actually got a good deal on a two bedroom apartment. They initially told us they wouldn't charge us a fee for the reserved parking spot but continued to charge it along with our rent. The staff at the office is quite rude and not at all cooperative . Everytime we had a maintenance problem we had to remind them about it atleast twice or thrice over the period of a week or ten days. There are way too many interruptions in the water service (atleast one notice is sent every week) and everytime this happened they would inform us only 16 hrs in advance. Once they turned off our water for 36 hrs and we had out of town guests staying over. All of us ended up moving into a motel for the night. There are too many spiders and ants especially in the first floor apartments. The gym and laundry facilities are pretty decent and well maintained, infact they seem to have got some new equipment for the gym recently. The location is perfect so thats a big plus and it is quite a safe apartment complex.

Nice place for the money
I lived here for two years, and when it's all said and done, this was not a bad place to live. Of course there are problems with management and rude employees, but I do have to say that they are very good at passing out notices for crime watches and water interruptions (which occur WAY TOO OFTEN!!) The property is QUIET and SAFE which are very important to me, being a single female that works nights. I have never had a problem with my neighbors, everyone is friendly, maintenance responds to problems fairly quickly. There are LOTS of spiders on the grounds, but they are small and harmless. Better than roaches, IMO. The landscape is maintained well, and the property is very well kept for being as old as it is. Mostly you will find students, med center employees, and MD Anderson patients from out of town living here, which is great in my book. There are not a lot of families or kids running around (though there are a few). My 1 bedroom apartment was quite spacious and I had very little issue with it, other than the AC which tended to putz out in the middle of winter,ā¦Ā See More>0x1
