This building is in a good location near public transit and restaurants. The staff are friendly and maintenance responds quickly. However my apartment is overpriced, I've dealt with bugs the entire time I've been here, and the apartment is just not that nice given the rent.

Don't like how management waited so long to turn on the A/C. It was over 80 degrees in my unit for 10 days. The paint leaves yellow marks in the bathroom and there's no vent for our bathroom. The ground floor hallways always smell gross. The side door on the ground floor is usually propped open (security hazard). Mail carriers sometimes forget to provide a code to enter the mailroom which makes it difficult to obtain whatever I ordered.

Found the community to be very quiet. There's a very nice gym in the building. The pstaff is very friendly. They organize various events for the tenants, ample parking above and below ground. Very close to restaurants and grocery stores store.

The good: Joey and the maintenance team. The challenges: Roaches started when Bell started renovations in 2017. They have a quarterly pest control service. Some occupants leave trash and food out, which increases pests. Also, rent increases rapidly each year, and they are always looking for ways to increase cost on tenants.

Bad management of the property and Mice problems
This place is peaceful and convenient because of the location, but is cheap for a few bad reasons. It was built back in 1960s and the management is awful at keeping things clean and giving maintenance to the community. The AC isn’t turned on until May 15th and apartments temperatures get up to 85 degrees. Same goes for the heat when the coldness hits. You’ve gotta wait for them to turn on the heat whenever they choose to do so. The elevators are constantly out of service and people often get stuck in them. You normally see 1-2 firefighters on the complex on a weekly basis. Carpets are old and ugly. Theres a lot of neglected areas and lack of maintenance. The stairs, the parking, the garage, the hallways. Everything is falling apart and not being properly maintained. They try to charge you for everything, yet you don’t see any improvements in the community. There’s no good illumination in the parking area where people walk to get to the Main Street. People have to use the road and there’s no signs, no crosswalks or sidewalks. This is particularly dangerous at night because of the lack of ilumination and people speeding above 10 mph. They have a huge rodent infestation problem. They say they are taking care of it, however there’s an infirmity influx of mice into peoples apartments. Please see Google reviews and pictures before considering moving here. You’ll regret it.

Mostly good, but now is an abomination. it is 79 degrees in my unit, the operating/management group is providing no assistance .It is difficult to sleep at night which is causing issues. Why is the complex unable to provide AC units at this time? This is absolutely ridiculous.

The building as changed a lot because of the weed smokers. The managment does all they can but the smokers still smoke in the apartments. If we dont smell it in the halways it is in the bathrooms. They hide in their bathrooms to smok and th ventilation bring it in my bathroom. I don't know if it the resident abose or beneath who does smok. Above me, the dogs moves at night bother me a lot. At any time of the night they walking, and that is very annoying. The door at the big stairs is often open. We have notified the managment, but it still not working well

This is the WORSE! The day I moved in I saw roaches.?? The following month, I received a notice on my door that I have to vacate the premises because there is a complaint about smoke coming from my apartment. I speak to management. I explained that I burned incense. Ms. Vetty tells me that should be ok. However, the following month I see mice ?? droppings in my bathroom and since I know a few people who live here, they have also seen mice droppings. I went Management and was told that maintenance will come to my apartment and close up any holes they see. Which never happened. The following month, I received another notice on my door that I have a dog. My father died in my last apartment. I'm still grieving the loss. I get a puppy for support. I have documentation to support my reason for having my dog. I read the laws about having a support dog, however, I was told that it has to be approved by management. Again, I know other residents that have support dogs and have never provided any information about their dogs. I provided management with my dog documentation. The next month, I received another notice that my my lease has been terminated because several residents complained about smoke coming from my apartment. Let me be clear. I'm diabetic, my son is ------, we are the only American black family there located in that corner area. Caucasians in front and next door. I went to Ms.Veney with my incense, lit them and said, this must be the issue. You stated that I could burn my incense, but now you're saying I can't. That is fine. Living here has cost me so much distress, frustration, stress, anxiety and depression. I have been discriminated against by management. I have been harassed by management. I have be belittled by management. This is by far, the worst place to live. Before signing the lease, I was asked why was I leaving my last residence? I stated, because they have rodents. Guess what!? This place have them 2 times as worse and ?? everywhere. Yesterday, I grab my jacket and a roach was on my jacket. This was in my room. The location, I love it! The apartments and management are racist and mistreat their minority residents like ??!

Upper floors get WAY TOO HOT. It's 60 degrees outside at noon, my windows have been open throughout the morning and night, and my apt is already 74. It will be 78 in a few hours. We pay too much in rent to have to deal with his. There is nothing I can do to cool down the apartment, whereas anyone on the lower floors who would otherwise be too cold could simply put on more clothing or buy a small space heater. This is not fair

It has been up and down. During renovations it was a nightmare as I live in a small studio and had to move to a hotel with my cat for 5 days as we could not stay in the apartment while all of that was going on. Was never reimbursed for anything, and was basically told it was not their problem. That was then. Things have gotten much better since the property manager, et al left long ago,

This community is not well taken care of. I work in customer service and the management team is by fam the worst I've e eat experienced, with Vendy being the worst. There is no sense of care for people who pay 2k a month to stay here. Building not worth price, headache, and constant maintenance issues.

It's been good. I like not having to pay for electricity. Only real complaint is the heating/cooling situation due to Arlington County Law, but they can't completely change that. I do think they switch to heating too soon because it still can get hot later in the year now.

i keep to myself so things have been good. There is a lot of pot smoked here so that can be annoying. I used to be bothered by the crows out back but have gotten used to them, its unfortunate they poop all over. I like to use the grill area all year it would be nice to have some area with an umbrella that keeps the poop off things or some other solution. Current staff is great. I feel safe, like the location, apartments are decent and price is reasonable.

Overall, I enjoy living in this community. I like the convenience of having a store in the building and the proximity of the complex to restaurants and shops. The maintenance team is efficient and responds to inquires in a timely manner.

The staff is very nice but I don't like how so many things are broken around the apartment. An elevator on one side of the building has been broken since I moved in and two out of the four treadmills don't work.

Overall fantastic place to live! Speedy maintenance requests, friendly concierge, updated facilities in the apartment, what else could you ask for? My only grievance is the fact that no units have central AC. It's all Heat or its all AC, resulting in the March-May months boiling you alive (my apartment gets upwards of 85-90 degrees idly with several fans running before we get the AC switched over). While that aspect is utter crap, the rest of the apartment and its facilities are lovely

The people are nice, friendly community, however things in the building need to be improved to make the cost worth it. For example, the elevator on the east wing of the building has been out of service for 4 years. To exit the east wing of the building you have to go all the way down to the main elevators. It is a tedious process to exit the building for those who live on the higher floors on the east wing. There is a huge package theft problem in the building. So much so that it is normalized to not receive packages. I've lived here a long time and had visitors of both roaches and mice. That seems to be improving but other folks are still reporting issues. We used to wake up with swarms crows outisde the windows, and the property is covered in bird feces, however that has improved slightly over the years. They are building a community room on the second floor which we are all excited about. Also the convenience store is a great help to have on site. The pool is nice. Overall I don't mind living here but there is room for improvement.

I like my apartment. I don't like the extreme heat for two months when the account was turned off October 1st. Also, the pesticide person came in and sprayed my furniture with pesticide. WTF?? No apology was given to me. This is unacceptable.

You are using a software to determine rent prices that uses surge pricing. It's the same software that is used by a large number of large apartment buildings in Arlington County. It is using that data to artificially inflate prices in the area, and it is creating a a quasi-monopoly. It is unethical.

I love almost everything about this complex. The management group are always cleaning and updating the common areas. I dislike the numerous pets, and chaos with internal mail room. Otherwise this would be my ideal place to live. The location is great and I really like the majority of staff

my experience at Shirlington House has been, in general, most positive: helpful and knowledgeable managers and maintenance workers, excellent care of interior and grounds, watchfulness where pets and smoking in the building are concerned. I'm pleased to have found an apartment in Shirlington House.

Horrible. I have had flooding, mold, air conditioning nightmares, a broken disposal, almost nonexistent bathroom sink water flow, and CONSTANT NOISE from thousands of door slams 24/7/365, garbage being LOUDLY rolled down the hall for 2-3 hours each morning, hearing kids yelling and dogs barking as they come inside. I quit having any packages delivered here because of at least 6 instances of not receiving them. I HATE this place and cannot move out soon enough.

Very quick response from Maintenance! Place is well maintained, lawn us safe and well-manicured. Clean, quiet, safe environment. The building is made of concrete, so you can't hear any noise from you neighbors. Walking distance to shops, restaurants, bus station, freeway, gas station. Trash, recycling, laundry all Very convenient. I especially love the inhouse store where you can buy food and necessities, get drycleaning done, get excellent shoe-repair done. Very pleased and happy to be here!

Improvements since 2017: Apartment remodeling; improvement in management and maintenance; good caretaking of the grounds, etc. The fitness Center and new club room (now under construction) are a definite plus.

My experience with the community has change since I moved in. At first I was satisfied and very happy with the building. For the past year I can't say it's the same. Management personnel always has an attitude as if I'm an inconvenience , they don't seem to care and they are barely around. I have called for issues several times and I get answers like will get back to you and never do. I've place work orders and they take over a week to fix something small. Maintenance team is very friendly but front office just don't seem to want to deal with the tenants. I can't say it's one person because I've heard the same complaint from other tenants. There are always issue with pacakages. Pest seems to be a never ending problem. Also they should have community events at least one till 7pm or 8pm many people work and don't get home till 6pm and most events are done by then or maybe have one during the weekend for those who can't join during weekdays
