I moved in Shirlington House almost 2 years ago. The rent is cheaper and more spacious compared to the rest of the apartments in this area. It is very close to 395 and Shirlington village which has everything--restaurants, supermarket, pharmacy, hair/nail salon, post office, bus station, gym, library, theater--literally everything! I love the staff, parking and the mini supermarket in the building. A few months ago, they changed the management and they are trying to charge us more for amenities when nothing has been upgraded. The new staff are friendly and very helpful. Since this is an old building, the building controls the A/C or heat.. you can either have Cold air or Heat. and I think it is the new management who didn't seem to understand the rules about AC/Heating since it took them a while to turn on the A/C even when it's 80 degrees outside and everyone was complaining. They would just tell us to turn on the fans and open the windows. What they do not understand is that heat means allergies and not everyone can just open their windows. I was unlucky enough to be one of those people so it was miserable. I ended up staying at a hotel for a few days. They finally turned not he AC on May 1st! I am moving in a few months, as soon as my lease is up.. mostly due to the A/C issues and the rent increase+new fees for amenities.

I have enjoyed living at Shirlington House. It is in a great location, close to restaurants, the library, a grocery store, a movie theater, and walking trails. The staff is friendly and maintenance is quick to respond.

Excellent location, Office Management is very slow to respond-have had issue with rent for over 3 months, maintenance tries very hard-falls short of getting issues resolved without a great deal of follow-up. Will probably not renew lease.

My fiancé and I were ecstatic to find such an affordable apartment so close to Shirlington Village. The first few months were great but slowly we began to have problems. There is a concierge desk, which is supposed to log all packages and notify you of arrivals. I was never told my medicine, which is supposed to be kept cold and is delivered on cold packs, was delivered. Weve had multiple similar problems. We've also had a neighbor smoking indoors for over 7 months. We've continuously been told that they're working on it and the tenant will be evicted. Seven months later nothing has been done and our apartment and belongings continue to reek of cigarette smoke. Another problem is the air conditioning. Because it's an old building, it can either be on heat or AC. We've been having multiple 80 degree days with no air conditioning. Every time I go by the front desk someone's complaining about the unbearable conditions. One night our apartment was 75 degrees. I met another resident whose was 82. Were moving out next month and I couldn't be more thrilled. Definitely not worth the cheap price.

I have lived at Shirlington House for almost one year now and have really enjoyed it. The maintenance staff is great! They attend to every issue within 24 hours. Most of the concierge staff is friendly and helpful. The grounds are kept beautifully! And the community itself is very clean. The location is very convenient and management is attentive to my needs. I'm happy I chose Shirlington House as home!

I am consistently disappointed by my experiences at Shirlington House. The ridiculous machinations to raise the rent are especially insulting (short lease terms, adding the cost of garbage.) Living amongst dogs now that we allow them is degrading. Despite many excellent staffers and some fine moments, the overall experience is unsatisfactory. I continue to look for another home and hope to leave at the end of my next lease term.

The apartment is spacious with great location and resonabke price. In saying that you get what you pay for. It is an older building with out dated electric and heating and ac. The Bulding controls AC which will not be switched over till may 1st. So even if it almost 90 on Easter they tell you to open windows and use fans. I lived there for 2 weeks and have had not the best service but since I have poor credit from my devotee they accepted me when I was rejected elsewhere:

The location is good walking distance to Shirlington and the Transit station is excellent. Love the maintence staff willing to help out whenever asked. Pool is good and we now have our own dog park! Gym needs to be upgraded but it does have treadmill, electrical and bikes.

I would love to be able to give Shirlington House a good review, but unfortunately, I cannot. I have lived here for three years, and am now moving within the month. Rent: New management took over this past year and when they sent out new lease terms they were trying to charge us almost 300 dollars more than what we were paying. I would not mind the increase in the appliances, carpeting paint...anything for that matter was being updated. However, there are actually more things falling apart in my apartment than anything. So, why am I being charged more? Parking and Trash: These amenities both used to be free and now there is a $25 dollar parking fee (not in a garage) and $10 for trash. I take out my own trash. Often times, there is limited parking and the new management just put in multiple visitor spots that are taking up sports that could be used by residents who are PAYING! AC/HEAT: The heat and AC is controlled by the building. They really don't care if your apartment reads in the 90's. They will not turn the A/C on until May. It is pretty miserable. Overall, I have had good experiences with maintenance and the front desk staff are nice enough. I used to really love living here, now, I can't wait to be gone. If you are looking in this area, there are way better options! Make sure to do your research!

Lived in Shirlington House for over a year. The building in itself is nothing special, and the fitness room is mediocre at best; however, the location right next to Shirlington Village and access to public transportation make up for some of the inconveniences. Being right off 395, you will hear traffic all day long. Management is not customer friendly, not the worse I have seen but definitely not friendly. I only had to contact maintenance twice while living there, and they were always quick to respond. Parking can be limited, and used to be free until recently. The front desk is staffed 24 hours but people working are not the most professional. CAUTION: Do not store your bike in the garage as it is likely to get stolen!!

The most disappointing factors of this apartment are the inabilty of staff members to speak English, the (studio) apartment is outdated & the carpet is poor quality. The paint job before I moved in was awful; there are paint splatters throughout. The work out facilty is the most upsetting - I was told when I moved in they were tearing down walls and redoing the area - it's been nearly a year...nothing! I have talked to other residents & have learned new management is raising rent by $200 - that is excessive and I feel they will lose many good paying tenants due to such a huge increase in rent. If there was a reason to increase rent (overall quality of the building improved), an increase would be acceptable, however, the building is very old and very outdated - not worth the money. The amount of rent is comparable to a mortgage you are smart, go purchase something!

This place is a true scam! 1.Maintenance request to be done takes forever. 2.Staff is so rude, specially the fat one. I completely forgot her name, she's always -------------------------, lack of professionalism. 3. Management is horrible, they changed management and so the rent while I lived there. The increase was brutal. There's not a friendly environment. 4.Parking is another issue, they charge for parking spaces and a lot of people just park there without permission or parking tickets. There is no control of the vehicles allowed in the parking lot. 5. At the end of the lease they want to charge people $150.00 for not having the apartment vacuumed which a little expensive for just vacuuming. 6. DO NOT RENT AT SHIRLINGTON HOUSE APARMENT find somewhere your money is valued.

Great staff, location, convenience. Bldg maintenance and upgrades too late for me to remain; however. Eventually the building will look sufficient. If Bell mgmt. could have shampooed the carpet at least once since taking over, it would have represented respect for the tenants and I would have had enough confidence to remain a tenant.

I have lived at Shirlington House for almost five years and have enjoyed my time here. While it is not immediately metro-accessible, it is in close proximity to many services that offset that only shortcoming. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a home nearby D.C. that isn't quite as busy as a big city.

Shirlington House is a quiet, safe, apartment community conveniently located in Shirlington, Arlington, VA. It is within walking distance of the Village at Shirlington shops and it on the route of the 7a, f, y, and 22 a, c Metrobuses, which take you to Pentagon Station on the Blue and Yellow lines. It's a great place to live if you're looking to be close to DC and want the amenities of living in a city.

This is an older building in a great walkable neighborhood with good bus access. Apartments are dated and a bit worse for wear, but large for the area and have lots of light. They are a decent value for the area. Most residents seem to be middle class people with white collar jobs. The staff is mostly good, though I have had issues with a couple of people. Aside from one set of particularly noisy neighbors who seem to like to slam doors, I generally hear less noise from neighboring apartments than is often the case, i.e. no droning televisions or thumping music. Overall, not bad.

It is great community abd reasonable price. I like the area here in Shirlington. It is good for families and everything close to you. Parks, market and restaurants. The only problem is the parking lot is very difficult if you prefer to park you car in parking lot not the garage.

Quiet, good location, and a fair price for what you get. As long as the rates don't change, I think it is a good place to live for several years. We have lived there for 6 months and haven't had problems outside minor maintenance issues

Overall, we've enjoyed our time at Shirlington House. There are a few quirks that are a bit annoying like water pressure and water temperature (sometimes there's no hot water), but the living space is pretty clean and nice. Maintenance requests are handled in a timely manner. There are a few complaints from residents about their exit-experience, but since we haven't left this complex yet, we have no notes on that. Our last apartment (we used to be in a one bedroom on the 10th floor) had a mouse problem. Our current apartment (3rd floor) has insect problems, but this is far preferred over mice. The noise is average--since our apartment is near the stairs, we hear folks coming up and down. And our apartment also faces the city of Arlington Maintenance facilities, so we hear constant beeping and repairs--something that Shirlington House has no control over. Overall, our experience seems good. The front desk staff is starting to get used to everything. The guy who handles Saturday evenings isn't the nicest guy, but the morning weekday guy is extremely professional and greets everyone. Overall, we've enjoyed our time here.

Run away. Don't move here. This place is a nightmare. It is an absolute mess. Constant hammering and drilling. The air conditioning doesn't work. The elevators break down all the time. They shut the water off all the time. Maintenance doesn't respond to requests unless you hunt them down and insist they come to your apartment. And the leasing office does not deal fairly with leases.

Pro: -great location, 365, metro bus station, Shirlington Village, -convenience store downstairs -all utilities included, pet friendly, pretty clean Cons: rent increased almost $300 for residents who stayed? for what? a dog park no one uses? work orders are deleted/ ignored. goes into a black hole lobby, hallways are outdated. needs a facelift.
