Best moving experience Ever

I have live all over the nation and I am use to apartment living, here at Southern Walk they make you forget all that stuff.<br>The grounds are the most beautiful in the Loudoun Area.<br>The Broadlands Home Owners welcome you to the community. I've gone to a casino night, the nature center, community center, grocery shopping, had lunch at a beautful little pub, and I did it all walking. I've heard in the summers they have concerts and food in the park that is walking distance.<br>In this Northern VA Area I've noticed that all of the other communities don't really care about what you want and what you are looking for, this place gave me all the options. And just last week I signed my son up for nature camp and tennis camp this summer, at the close by nature center.<br><br>If you want unique and beauty above any other normal Apartment place go to to Southern Walk and you'll feel like you are actually at your own home.<br><br>

    If you are considering moving to southern walk here are some things you should consider:<br>-Our advertised "gated community" does not exist, the gate has not worked for months. Because the gate doesnt work, all the rif raf in ashburn can get on the property and try to break into the club house(which happen last month).<br>-when your clubhouse is broken into it causes your gym privlidges to be washed away because you can't get into the gym untill the maintence crew fixes the door, good luck on that one, especially when they are calling old employees to try to figure out the problem because they cant. <br>-Parking: you live in your apartment for over a year parking in your "assigned spot"<br>when one day you wake up to a car there, okay, go to the office they will fix it asap right? no, they will tell you another story because they are new,the fourth or fifth one this year. <br>-trash, the compactor backs up or people think its backed up and pile their trash 10ft in the air. Hey management maybe a sigh would help? just an idea.<br> so to sum it up, move to the lovely southern walk apartment its great untill you need to drive through you open gate, park a car,throw trash away,or go to the gym but who does any of that anyway??? If only we had a property manager like the old days???

      my fiance just moved in. I am there with him every weekend for now. I love it so far. We were lucky and got an area right by the "wetland", so there's always ample guest parking. We are not disturbed by our neighbors at all, we can't even hear them! My only complaint so far would be that some things are in/on very slightly crooked (air vents in bathroom, faucet in downstairs bathroom. I have not had to deal with maintenance yet. Our neighbors seem friendly as well.

          WOW! Can you tell that management has wrote the last few reviews up here. kind of funny, huh? I moved out of there a few months ago and has my life been better since. I am definitely glad I am not there now with all the winter weather. Last winter I slipped a couple of times and fell because the side walks were not shoveled from all the snow. I had a girlfriend(who was pregnant) come visit and fell. IT WAS AWLFUL! The parking issue is horrible. The management is horrible too. Everytime I went into the office to talk to someone , there was always someone different to talk to . They have a high staff turnover. There is no guest parking and they tow, tow, tow. WATCH OUT! WHATEVER YOU DO!

                Very interesting website. I was on the internet looking around, and this site poped up. I was suprises to find my old apartment place listed on this site. <br><br>Even though, I moved out about 6 month ago to move into my new house. I enjoyed living at Southern and I would tell anyone to here. I was only here for about 8 months, but I am glad I choosed this place, it was fun and close to my work and it was quite.

                  I recommend this community to my dearest friends. I truly have enjoyed living here and look forward to renewing my lease when the time comes. <br>The staff has always gone out of their way to assist my every need whether its a high as maintence issues or as low as finding a nice restrautant.

                    I am finally able to work in my home

                    I recently moved into Southern Walk after living at a near by community which shall remain nameless...well it was actually The Arbors at Broadlands. <br><br>I moved out of the Arbors because I did not have enough room to work from home, and management was unwilling to let me transfer within my lease term. I telecommute and needed a large bedroom with a lot of closet space for my client files, and the Arbors could not provide me with this, not to mention they would not let me transfer into the floor plan that could've given me the space I needed. <br><br>I moved into Southern Walk a few months ago because of their large bedrooms in the town homes. The floor plan met all my needs and wants, not to mention...the high speed internet accesss which saved me about $100 per month!<br><br>The staff has been very professional and kind, my service requests have been extreamly minor and have always been taken care of in a timely manor. <br><br>I would recommend this community to anyone. Southern Walk is in my oppinion the only luxury rental community in Ashburn.<br>

                      My Experience with Southern Walk

                      I was relocated to the Northern VA market and needed a short term housing solution. I was referred to this community from a work colleague who had heard that they were pretty easy to work with on short term housing and frankly, living in a hotel wasn't going to cut it. What I found was a pleasant staff, a professional office and a move in process that went without a hitch. Parking on the property is tight and I can't say that the area is all that exciting but hey, the short term convenience was what my wife and I wanted and that's what we found. If you are in the market for a short term lease, these people are a good solution. The lady who showed me the property was nice and the manager took some time to welcome me which I have never had happen in any place else I'd lived. The maintenance crew took care of an issue I had fairly quickly and while it certainly costs a bit of money to live here, I'm paying less than a hotel and my wife has a place to stay while we look around for something more permanent. <br><br>

                        Don't waste your time here!!

                        1. Heating air conditioning wasn't fixed for over 7 months. Wasn't offered enough compensation for all the hassles and bs we had to go through to track somebody down to fix the problem. <br> <br>2. Employees never make an effort to help with anything. Anytime I put in a ticket about a problem with the apartment, it was never address without follow-up from me. Employee turnover here near 100%. <br> <br>3. Trash compactor in front area of apartment always broken. <br> <br>4. Can hear everything your neighbor does. When your neighbors keep unusual hours, this means you can't sleep. <br> <br>5. Floors creak in every room in adjoining apartments. Sounds like the building is about to fall down. See #4 above <br> <br>This place would have to make major improvements to get a 1 star rating. <br> <br>Go somewhere else!! This place is not worth all of the headaches.

                          I would say NO

                          We moved into our apartment in August 2003. We got a two-bedroom, two-floor apartment. They made it sound so great. <br>So they say you have an option to get a fireplace, which is extra everymonth. So we say no, but big surprise, ALL the two-bedroom, two floor apartments have fireplaces. So that's an extra $15 or $25 a month. Then we have a "view" fee, which is more like seeing the houses across from you in the winter when the trees are bare or having half broken trees in the back. <br>Not a view i'd pay for, but because we took that apartment we pay a "view" fee. <br>Then they want you to clean up after your dog. I agree, people should, however they said they'd be putting in doggie clean up stations so you can throw away your doggies doo doo. That never happened and probably never will. <br>When we moved in the lights weren't even on in our corner. It was too dark to see anything at night and I felt very unsafe. <br>One morning I came out to find a big ----- symbol spray painted on a rock in our wonderful "view". <br>That's when I complained. They never wrote me back, but just fixed the problem ... about a week or two later. <br>The parking is horrible. If you don't have a garage you almost never find a spot close enough to your place. There is only 3 spaces out front where our side of the building is and we live on the third floor, and if we don't get a space close enough it's like oh well. But that makes grocery shopping a pain. <br>One time we came home around midnight and couldn't find ONE PARKING SPACE in the ENTIRE side/are we live in. We had to park out by the mailboxes and drag our pillows, blankets and luggage, plus our dogs, back to our apartment in about 20 degree weather. <br>Whatever happened to "every apartment has two spaces unless you have a garage". I don't think so. <br>People that do have a garage don't use it half the time and take up regular spots. <br>There is no where for kids to play and that forces them to play in the streets and then they almost get run over when someone drives around the complex. <br>When we moved in it was supposed to be a gated community. Nope, gate didn't go up till about February/March and they said it would be up in December. When it did go up it hardly ever worked and they just left it opened. <br>Now here's what i don't get. It's supposed to be a gated community. The gate is up now and working fine, but they decide to leave the gate open from 7am till 7pm. Hmm, so that means that anyone can come in. And the perfect hours when people are away and someone can break into your house. Not very smart. <br>They say the pool will be open this year on time, but last year it didn't open till August/September and closed a month later. And people pay for that! <br>We always had problems with our heat and they say to just stay in a hotel that they'll pay for, but it isn't that easy when you have pets. <br>Now that we want to use the air conditioner, it never works. Good thing my husband is handy or we'd be sweating/freezing all year round. <br>They constantly want to come into your apartment and check things. They said they wouldn't be doing that often, and if they did maybe 2-3 times a year. <br>When they do want to come in they give you a week or two of when they plan to come in, so you have to lock up your pets everyday till they come. I don't think so!!! <br>The wood shrank in the winter and a constant breeze was coming under our door. We put in a door sweep to stop the breeze. <br>Also when we moved in we only had a turn lock on the door. Not even a dead bolt lock. So we put one of those in. <br>Our shower did not work, instead when I went to pull the lever up to take a shower, the spicket shot off and water came straight out. <br>I heard some lady got electricuted from touching a towel rack. How does that happen? <br>The mail also NEVER comes on time and for awhile we wouldn't get mail for a day or two. It's never been reliable and I don't think it ever will. <br>The staff is changing almost all the time. Some people have been there from the begining, but others have not. <br>The fitness room is tiny. You're practically on top of someone when you're in there. Absolutly no room to do cardio or to really get around the equiptment. <br>The business center has three computers and they're always being used by teeny boopers who want to chat with friends online and when someone really needs to use it they don't care. <br>There is a fax machine/copier, but you have to provide your own paper --- so why is having a business center an amenity if you have to provide so much? If i need to fax something I go to my work. <br>I tried faxing something from there and the person NEVER got it. Again, unreliable. <br>I could go on and on and on about why you shouldn't get this place. <br>Just say no to Southern Walk! You can mortgage a house for the price you're paying in rent for an apartment. <br>We got lucky and moved in on a SPECIAL and we "only" pay $1250 a month, however if you want to rent an apartment now you're going to be paying at least $1400 a month. CRAZY!

                            RE: Not suited for families no place for children to play

                            The shape of the town home is awful, my piano will never make it out of the garage. No storage for things and our garage is full of items. There isn't a playground on the property and no place for children to play ball. Some apartment dwellers drive too fast and some child will get hurt. Office seems to be unaware of problems that exist for families here. Due to school overflow children have to go to other schools than the apartment ad stated. too much money and nothing for kids

                              it is nice to have 2 less checks 2 write out with the cable and online service included in your rent. the staff is courteous and nice. the only thing we can do without is all of the dog poo all over the place.. tenants should pick up after the pets.. Dog poop carries dieases that is harmful to other pets as well we can get worms.. not to mention if u step in it, or a nice gentle breeze passes and u get a whif of it. also parking may become an issue in the future.

                                Trouble on the Horizon

                                We didn´t mind the apartment. But we had major issues getting Van Metre to accept transfer of the Utilities. It seems that the business office was not efficient in supporting the customer. They seem to be there only to support potential new customers rather than their current or past customers.

                                  My husband & I very much enjoyed living here

                                  Everyone in the office was very pleasant to us and were always willing to help. We could use the gym 24hrs. a day. The gate is now being used for the community. It wasn´t being used earlier because construction was still being done. Their tenant parties were very nice and a real treat! We will very much miss everyone at this community!! They were very nice to our dog and even gave him treats when they saw him!

                                    Been told since 5/03 that certain things would be taken care of. No 24 hr gym like they advertise, no gated community, not enough parking, shoddy work in building the apt.s WAY TOO MUCH $ FOR WHAT YOU GET. Employees are rude and give lame excuses when asked for help.

                                      Horrible conditions for your money

                                      The heating system is horrible, no hot water in the back bathroom of the master´s bedroom. Half of their kitchen applyance falling appart (Washer, fridge etc.) When its snows or ices, they don´t clear the walkways, snow not removed from breezeway. The garbage compactor is not big enough for the community causing overflow and dirty conditions.

                                        Lazy --- Employees... I´ve Learned To Do It Myself.

                                        The quality of living in this rip-off "luxury" development ("luxury" meaning substandard conditons, unfulfilled promises,and truly abominable customer service)is as poor as, I suspect, some ghettos in various third world countries. I have been nothing short of extremely disappointed when dealing with these people and their product.

                                          RUDE

                                          I do not live here and I never will. We came by to visit the property looking for an apartment and was turned off by the rudeness we were treated with. The dark haired lady in the office acted like she had beter things to do than talk to us. When we asked to see an apartment she tassed a book to us and said she could not show us anything now, take this book, look through it and come back tomorow. If this is how we are treated now, what will it be like if we move in.

I can not figure out if the fat guy in glasses works for the property or not because all I ever see him doing is watching the children play. He could at least pick up some of the trash while he does it, but that might make him take his hand out of his pants.

                                              The old adage is incorrect: You don´t get what you pay for with Van Metre!

                                              If you are going to look at these dumps, please come by on Sunday afternoon...and have them show you the dumpster...go check the mail and look at the ground around the gazebo (that has had 3 different crews trying <br>to lay 10 square feet of cedar shingles...in 3 months) and smell this place. The trash is always full and they will fine you $25 if you set your trash next to the dumpster.They do not keep their promises (someone in the office was supposed to type a ´late fee´ letter for me due to a bank error...this was 2 1/2 months ago and was promised to have it by Friday...two and half months ago). As others mentioned, ask to try out the T1 service; ask if the gate works; ask about the trash situation; ask residents about the smell here when the sun is out...and ask yourself, do I really want to deal with this? If you move here after reading these posts, you only have your self to blame and we´ll see your reviews here in the not-too-distant future, I am sure.

                                                whats up with that S***

                                                This place is not that awful but I called the office to have my Light fixed and four dark days later i came home to a working light, half of a missing roll of t/p(Replaced that morning),dark stains in the toilet and what looked like chewing tobacco on my floor,trashcan,and the sink.EWWW. I had to open my windows and leave for an hour just to air it out a littel. This makes me a littel shy of ask the office for ANYTHING. Thats effin gross and too libral for my taste.

                                                  Superior Service

                                                  Normaly I do not get involved with on line ratings or surveys, but I felt i had to here. I have been here since the begining and tes there have been some situations come up that were to say the least inconvient. However while reading some of the other reviews I was shocked to see how some people can blast the community like they did. For a brand new, still under construction community, myself and everyone I talk to think this place is absolutly beautyfull. The grounds are neatly kept and the buildings are kept clean. I also want to say that as far as superior service goes Beth should win the award for her efforts. She always takes the time go give me personalized attention and makes me feel important. She also follows up on all requests I have made with her. Beth is the reason I decided to move here.
