Very Honest Opinion - Good and Bad

I have lived at Fairfax Square for 6 months and I have to say the apartments are very nice, but don't let that fool you. The buildings are very old and we have a maintenance issue at lease once every other month. They are very nice when they come out to do work, but it is ridiculous to have to call them so often to fix things. Not to mention that they've come into our apartment for no reason whatsoever to fix something I couldn't even read on the little note they left behind. We should have known from day one when we walked in and every single closet door handle was in the middle of the closet door instead of where it was supposed to be. They were basically nonfunctional door handles until we moved them ourselves. The floors and walls are thin enough to hear the people around us coughing and showering or dogs barking constantly - or if you have our lovely neighbors who scream bloody murder pretty much every day, slam doors and verbally abuse their child... I wake up almost every day to the smell of smoke because of one of my neighbors when I am a non-smoker. I chalk it up to apartment living and go on with my day but when you pay $1600 for your apartment you would think you would at least not have a washer/dryer unit that shakes so ridiculously loud I can hear when my neighbors are doing laundry. There was a period where we lost power almost every single day and then it was once a week. It's just one thing after another and you just don't know what's going to be next. For the most part and when we don't have these issues, we have been happy, but just be warned that you are going to have issues and don't be surprised at how often you do. I don't think it would bother me so much if I didn't pay so much. I will be looking at other apartments before my lease is up.

Fairfax Square.

I have lived at Fairfax Square for over 3 years and I have been very happy the entire time. If I have ever had a problem or concern the office staff and particularly maintenance staff have been extremely responsive and helpful. It seems that the maintenance staff works at all hours of the night and in the freezing cold and the blazing heat. All of maintenance is very nice and efficient in times I have had emergencies. With bigger problems as well as minor ones, things have been handled professionally and I have never had a complaint. They go out of their way at times and I hope that they are treated like gold! Equally the office staff has been really friendly, caring and seem to be good at what they do. I would not have stayed at Fairfax Square as long as I have if my experience hadn t been a good one. As a long time resident I hope that whoever reads this takes my positive experience at Fairfax Square to heart and lets the ENTIRE staff know what a great job they are doing.

Nicest places in the city of Fairfax to live in

Being a Fairfax Square resident for 20 years, it's been a fun and wonderful experience. For 20 years, I've had outstanding relationship with management, maintenance, and office people. Currently the Manager has been outstanding to deal with. I'm looking forward to being a resident for many years to come. I love living here!

Management needs to stop posting here

Come one guys! You're giving yourselves away. It's too funny. You're really only making it worse. Anyway, apartment living is what it is. You have to take the good with the bad, and everyone has an opinion. But seriously, it's so obvious that after one person submits a bad review, there are 2-3 good ones posted within the same day.

Happy with new start...

I just moved here from out of state. I found Fairfax Square online and moved in right away. I thought moving here was easy and signing the paperwork was effortless. I was happy pets were allowed. I liked they had a computer room.

Worst Apartment Complex in Old Town Fairfax

If you really value your privacy, if you want to have a place you can call home...dont go here. This apartment complex is so dark and dingy during the evenings that the first time i came trying to look for this(i regret having tried this), i couldn't even find this apartment. The management is not nice, and the following few reviews praising the management has been written by (no points for guessing) themselves!!!! Don't be conned. Because, if you do sign that darn lease, you are stuck with the most incompetent bunch of goons for management. There are just too many problems with this apartment. I have to say, they have sufficient number of parking spaces and their own management office and swimming pool are good, but that is it. They will pretty much pick pocket you to get new stuff for old when you eventually leave the apartment. Beware

One of the best locations in Fairfax

Excellent apartments and townhouses! Plenty of parking, plus a reserved space for those of us in the townhouses. There is ample room, with a park-like atmosphere. Playgrounds, picnic tables, and outdoor charcoal grills are provided, as well as dog waste disposal areas. Trash is picked up daily. You simply place it in teh common collection areas, and the Van Metre teams take it to the dumpsters. Although it is right next to 236, it is remarkably quiet. The construction is a little older. Nothing too fancy in that department. My wife and I have been very impressed, especially from the hell-hole we came from in Lorton. Bus stop just outside the complex that circuit right to the Vienna GMU Metro (Recommended, as driving to this first western Metro stop and fighting with all the commuters from Manasass and Loudoun counties would be insane). A few blocks from downtown Fairfax, with plenety of little shops and resturants. A short drive to the Fair Oaks mall, or any of the shopping complexes around Route 50. Wegman's and other grocery stores within short distance. Several public schools nearby, and a short distance from NVCC and GMU (for those adults looking to further their skills).

Love this Property

I absolutely love this property, I started out at the leasing center with the leasing consultant,Eddie, whose enthusiasm was very contagious. I was just looking when I started out but decided to rent durning that first interview. The office staff has been great and the maintenance response has been just as outstanding.

Extremely Helpful

I was disappointed that the swimming pool closed at the end of September, since October was very hot throughout the month. I am waiting for the business center to be open 24/7. Betty Ventemilla has been extremely helpful to us -- she is a great asset for your company. I am suprised that the complex is so quiet.

I have been especially pleased with the maintenance staff!

I have been especially pleased with the maintenance staff and their timeliness on work orders. Also, on a number of occasions Mark has helped me out with maintenance problems that were last minute. Leo is always helpful at passing on messages to Claire or Mark for me and goes out of his way to make things as easy as possible.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to speedy for going above and beyond the call of duty when our washer machine broke. Our washer machine broke and it needed to be replaced it was leaking so they had to pull up the carpet and pull up some of the floor. Speedy went above and beyond to make sure the floor was completely dry and treated it with a mold treatment. He wanted to make sure that we were safe. He even had the carpets cleaned without hesitation so that it insured that there would be no issues with the carpet being dirty. He also came by several times a day to make sure that everything was going properly.Speedy always says hello to us around the neighborhood and always makes sure we are happy with everything. He is an amazing person and we can call on him anytime we have a maintenance issue.

Great place to live

The management team has made great strides to improve customer service in every area. The difference is definately noticeable. The maintenance team is also incredibly hard working and on the ball. I really like the imporvements that have been made to the landscaping and the general appearnce of the property! Thanks for making this a great place to live.

Many complaints (read this review!) and not metro accessible

I have lived here for six months and it seems like every day the management at Fairfax Square finds another way to make my life miserable. I have never regretted anything more than I regret my decision to move here. Apart from the ogres in the management office, I deal with loud music, barking dogs, bugs, mold, no parking, trash everywhere, and people steal my packages. They said it was metro accessible, but the drive to the metro in the morning is a nightmare. It takes me 25-30 minutes on a good day. There are much better deals in the area where you won't be hassled on a daily basis.

My time at Fairfax Square

I first want to start with all the really cool people that are hiding behind their computers bashing the staff. I will go out on a limb and say you have probably have never brought up your complaints with the staff. A lot of you if not all of you are ignorant to how things work. I have been in the construction field for many years now, and I can at least some what say I know what the maintenance people go through. You cant always fix everything the first time. no matter how good you are. From what I have seen this maintenance staff works very hard to try and get the job done right each and every time. I have dealt with almost all of the maintenance staff since I have lived here and they are always very friendly and know what they are doing and if they don t they don t seem scared to call another maintenance guy to come help out. I have really enjoyed dealing with Mark. There was a time when I called in a leak during last summer and when I called the office the next day I was not happy but when he got on the phone he was just honest to me (which help him gain my respect) he told me that they were very busy the day before and they must have just missed it, and said he would make sure that it got taken care of right away, and with in about 15-20 minutes a maintenance guy showed up at my door. (sorry I forget his name) These guys are always out working hard whether it is snowing trying to make the walk ways safe for all the residents, or whether its pouring down rain, and even when its 90 plus degrees outside working on getting our ac fixed so we can be in a nice cool house why they keep on moving with a smile on there face. I have not had to deal with the office staff too much since I have lived here but when I have they are usually very nice and try to do what they can to help out each time. my only complaint which I don t think would be too big of a deal is that I wish the office staff wouldn t call me so many times asking how things are doing and if there is anything they can do to help. come on guys if I have a problem I will call you trust me. They do have a every nice club house. They also have every nice parties for us residents. be careful staff. I know this was kinda one sided for the maintenance staff but with my line of work and what I have also seen other places I have lived the maintenance staff never seems to get much love or respect, but I hope this staff does. Van Metre it seems like you have one h--l of a staff here and I hope you show then the love and respect they deserve.

I highly recommend

The Assistant Property Manager, was extremely professional, knowledgable in every aspect of the leasing system and requirements and always willing to lend assistance in every way she could. All of us feel very special and welcomed to the community. I highly recommend Fairfax Square based on the excellent service provided.

No no NONONO!

I do not recommend this apartment complex. I have experienced and heard many horror stories while living here. The turnover rate is very high and there are many vacancies because this is a bad place to live. When I got a tour they pretended that there were only a few vacancies, but I have come to learn that many many apartments are vacant. There is a reason for this and it is because this apartment complex is terrible!

Everything is fine but for the RATS

These apartments are amongst the worst to live in. When i lived here, i found that I had a real rat issue(they tried for almost 4 months) to get rid of the rats and finally they had to cement the opening below the kitchen sink for the rats to stop coming down the pipes from upstairs. We kept our kitchen and our own apartment very hygenic, but we could do nothing about little mexico in this apartment complex and often we could find food items strewn around...and there is a creek closeby as part of the complex which is also not properly maintained, so no wonder there were rats...and boy there was a huge variety of rats. We never thought that any apartment complex would have rats. I once even contemplated putting one of those dead rats in front of the management office for proof, but later decided against it. But the stinking management are the real rats and put the rats in our apartments to shame with their behavior.

I'm happy :-)

I've really enjoyed living at Fairfax Square. The place was renovated really nicely before we moved in and looks great. Any maintenance issues we've had have been addressed immediately and thoroughly and all of the club house amenities have been wonderful. Having a gym and business center within a one minute walk has been so convenient and has saved me a lot of money. Overall, I'd highly recommend it to anyone and will miss it if I leave.

Love It!

When we moved in September and we love it. Claire is very nice. Brad is very nice. Betty is very nice. George and Mark are very nice. Maintenance is done very quickly. Our family was very happy with everyone! WE LOVE IT! I am glad we made the decision to live here.

Every one of these positive reviews is a lie - these apts are a dump

Apparently our management company is on a campaign to raise the rating of this apartment complex on this site. I am guessing this is because many of the apartments are empty (bet they won't tell you that on the tour!). Why are they empty, you ask? Because living in this apartment complex is akin to living in a shanty town in the third world. Here are some of the "benefits" of living in Fairfax Square: - cochroaches - trash everywhere, literally litering the streets on a daily basis - dog poo everywhere - loose dogs - paper thin walls - constant construction and landscaping in the wee hours of the morning - apartments that are literally falling apart - having to call the "maintenance hotline" five or six times to get something fixed - nearly being hit by a car on a daily basis because people rip through the parking lot at 50 mph - never being able to find a parking spot because management is too lazy to issue stickers, so anyone can park here - having your utilities apportioned by some crazy system that results in you being overcharged every month - having to leave your apartment for hours at a time while the fire department investigates mysterious burning smells - mold - frequent letters on your door with new made-up reasons that they have to enter your apartment - no outgoing postal box (good luck sending any mail out) My advice to you is don't live here. But if you still feel the need to take the tour, make sure you don't let them show you only the model apartment. Make them show you where you are going to be living, because you should know upfront the hell that you are getting yourself into.

Love living here...

I love living here, this is the first time I got to live on my own, away from my mother with a girlfriend and all. Despite the fact that my mom Co-Signed for us, im still experiencing what comes with paying your OWN rent. It's good to know on the drive home from work that I have a nice apartment to go to. Van Metre Fairfax Square's service, and living community is like "Bruce Lee's" reputation... LEGENDARY!!!!!!!
