Dump your garbage here -- FREE!
...Or, come drag racing late at night. Both the free garbage disposal (just dump it, no bags required) and well maintained, speed bump free racing ENDORSED, sanctioned and encouraged by management!!

Yes, that's right -- if you live nearby Fairfax Square on Main Street (check Mapquest for directions) and pay for your garbage disposal at home, cancel your service and come drop if off at any lamp post here (no need to go to the dumpster!). Staff goes around in their pick-up and picks it up any time of the day. Don't be deterred by the lease residents get which tell of specific times and bagging procedures, as it is not necessary. Management reinforces sloth like behavior of residents by picking it up, as is, all day long. I have seen people who moved out of the complex still drive by and drop off their garbage at any curb. Come clean out your car and just leave the stuff too. Again, bags NOT required. You can find raw meat, unfinished dinner, jars of bacon grease (no lids), vacuum cleaner bags, or just about anything lying around at a curb any time of the day -- they pick it up for you. I personally have never seen a rat in my apartment as some other other residents have noted on this site because I make sure my garbage is always out of my house and on the street, although I am one of the few who foolishly uses a bag, but I'll probably stop to fit in better and save money. If the health department ever came by here they would be in nirvana with citations (hey, not a bad idea). Management spends a lot of maoney on lawn maintainance and gardening, which is ironic considering the garbage. If you have a dog, walk it here to poop as aparently you dont have to bag it or pick it up! Come one, come all!

Want to drive 70 miles an hour, unfettered. This is the place. There is a long stretch of road with a hill by the management office, but other shorter areas suffice as well. It's not just the college students (which are abundant as they are able to illegally fool management and come live 5 or 6 to an apartment)who are guilty. This could be a nice place, but it is a sanitation workers paradise instead -- So, COME AND DUMP YOUR UNBAGGED GARBAGE HERE ANY TIME OF DAY -- WE'LL JUST PICK IT UP FOR YOU!

Lived her 3 years -Roach Motel!!
I lived here from 2002 thru 2004 (a little over three years). These apartments are so nasty. I lived on the ground floor and had a sewer back up through my tub and toilet and out into the bedroom area. I tried to warn maintenance but they did not believe that I had a problem and 6 hours later I was flooded. After this they did not even want to replace the carpet They came in and shampooed. There was mold growing around all of the windows, the carpet was 15 years old, the appliances were 15-20 years old. Many of the tenants cram lots of people into a two bedroom. When I first moved in, I saw maybe 4 roaches in one year; by the third year I was infested and had to hire an outside exterminator to keep the roach population down. Believe me, you do not want to live here. There is not insulation in the walls and you freeze in the winter; the ac/heating system is very old. Overall, you are going to pay the same rent here as anywhere else in Fairfax -- but you can find an apartment far nicer and quieter apartment than these. Don't move here.

not a place for poor students
Moving in was hell. The lease agent did not help us one bit and seemed confused herself of the regulations and fees. New fees kept popping up ($300 move in fee?!), ammenities were more expensive than we were told, and all in all we spent much more money than expected. Now we are dealing with a cockroach problem and noisy neighbors. I am a college student and from what I noticed the students aren't as noisy as some of the people that live here. Fights outside at 3 am, people spinning their tires, trash outside--I might as well be living in the projects. True, the location is great, but if you are a contientious student looking to save money this is not the place for you.

Keep Looking
The outside looks great - and they spend a lot on making it "look" good. If only they cared as much about the living space. Many calls to get problems repaired. When updating exteriors, did not add or replace insulation - resulting in high utilities and uncomforable interiors. Our home was never free of unwanted insects, and most neighbors also complained insect problems. The escalating rent would only be merited if they let you live in the $3 million club house they just built.

Long-time resident
When I left the complex in 2005, I was their longest-term resident! Needless to say, I liked the apt complex (had to move for new, out-of-state, job). I had cockroach problems, but it was taken care of within a couple of days (they had to call an outside exterminator), and I never saw another cockroach after that (there were no roaches until about 2002, so I think they were brought in by a new resident). Although I've never seen mice or rats, I was present when a resident came in complaining about mouse holes, so I presume it's tru. Parking has been a bit of a problem over the last few years. They recently spent a fortune on a new leasing office/bldg, gym, pool, and residential exterior renovations, so I'm not surprised that they are now charging $300 just to move in! Plus, as of 2004, they require TWO months notice to *leave* the complex. These last two things may hurt them in the long run, but I believe Ffx Sq is the best complex for the money in the general area.

Fairfax Square Resident
I'm a resident at Fairfax Sq. Apts and I can say that so far I've been very pleased with the homes and the staff and how accomodating they have been in helping me move in my home and any issues that may arise.

There is one leasing associate there that I feel would best be suited in another profession, she is rather rude if you're not leasing with her so watch out for her.

Big Fat Rats - DONT LIVE HERE
Very bad experience with the rude and unresponsive management. Also too many pests such as real big RATS and cockroaches. Exterminators are ineffective against these pests. Both management and exterminators are detached from your issues. Its location may be the only plus point, but there are several other apartments in the vicinity which are much much better than this.

Don't live here
I lived here for a year and would not recommend others to move in for many reasons. First the staff they seem nice because they are there to sell you the place but once you are a resident they do nothing to help you but give you a lot of attitude instead of trying to help you when you have a problem. Second they will rent to anybody meaning that your neighbors will most likely be college kids. Third, there are no vents in the bathrooms and smells even permeate from floor to floor. Fourth, the parking spaces are too small and on a slight decline, meaning you will have scratches on your car from people's doors. Lastly, there are better places that are cheaper, and you'll be kicking yourself cause you signed a lease with these people, I know from experience it was one of the worst years of my life living there. Some positives: nice pool, nice gym

Used to work there, don't believe the recommendations
Don't trust all the 5 ratings, especially the one's done on the same day... hahaha used to work there and they'd spend all day figuring out what to write at the office. It's not a bad place but trust me, it's not that great.

mediocre to poor maintenance and staff
Mgmt energy goes into the clubhouse and the grounds. Minimal building maintenance and given that this complex is aging, that's bad news. It takes them forever to replace lights (it took over a month the last time the outside lights burned out) and this was after they had sent a notice that they would be installing more external lighting in our area due to vehicle break ins. Office staff is usually "cheerful" but very UNhelpful. They do not respond to complaints about noise and are slow to address problems such as water seepage and termites. There are bugs, although that problem has addressed and lessened in out building after two different tenants moved out right after moving in. There will be steep rent increases after the first year--the latest scam is adding a "water" fee, which is actually a rent increase since we did not pay for water before they built a new clubhouse and renovated the pool area. The money should have been invested in the apartments themselves. Your experience will vary depending on which building you live in. But it can be very loud--and frequently beer bottles are spread about in the morning.
Think carefully about what you are willing to put up with before you move here.

Lackluster doesn't do it justice...
I've lived here for about 10 months and have accumulated many complaints and issues with the management. They refuse to address noise issues that make it utterly impossible to sleep at night. We hear the upstairs neighbors having sex. Horrible smells seep into our apartment. Bad neighbors: smoking in the no-smoking hall ways. Ridiculous trash disposal policies. Inadequate parking. Steep rent raises at renewal.

What everyone says about the clubhouse is true--it is nice. Also, some of the extra programming like once in a while the staff handing out muffins in the morning, is nice--but I can help but wonder if my steep raise in rent is the result.

If you're looking for friendly management staff that is caring and responsive--LOOK ELSEWHERE. If you're someone who cherishes uninterrupted, or just the existence of, sleep--LOOK ELSEWHERE. If you do not relish the thought of smelling cooking rotted meat--LOOK ELSEWHERE.

Management Issues
I am living in this apt for a year and still facing some issues with the Mgmt. Apartment is ok to live for the money we are giving. I found that the employees except the mgr and another lady are very RUDE. They should know that they are getting paid because we live there and should work with residents rather than creating issues.

Major Issues

1) No place to put Trash. What is this?? Never heard of an Apartment where Trash cannot be kept ?? We can only put it from 06.30 to 08.00 am.

2) They also fine people randomly for not putting trash at the specified time.

3) If you have a satelite, forget it.. u will have lot's of issues while fixing it up. If u have more issues then better call County Officials for legal supt.

4) Will not get place for parking if you come later than 09.00 pm

I am not going to extend the lease next time. I am ok to pay more.

I wouldn't recommend living here to anyone.
Overall this is the worst apartment complex I've ever lived in.

The good ratings have to have been written by members of the management staff. I've been here almost 1 yr. and I've never, I mean never, talked to a resident who thought this was a good place to live.

The office staff is often rude and only as helpful as they have to be. They don't seem to really care about the residents.

You'll notice the "club house" is beautiful, hardwood floors, oriental rugs, grand piano. Unfortunately, they spent their money on all that instead of on the up-keep of the apartments.

The construction of the apartment buildings is so poor that you can hear everything from the apartment above you, and I mean everything, snoring, sex, fights, everything.

The water pressure is very poor, and the hot water comes and goes. They try to tell you that it's because you're using it at peak times, but I've had the same thing happen when I got up early and took a shower at 3 in the morning.

Any maintenance that's done is slip-shod. You have to call to have things done several times before it's done right.

The dumpster situation is terrible. The area is scary, and at times isn't even lighted at night.

My Dog Likes It ...
Everyone here has been very helpful. The location is great for George Mason especially. The new clubhouse is ausome, I love hanging out in the upstairs pub room where I dig the plasma screen TV, cool place to relax after work, and get coffee before... No complaints yet, and my dog likes it!

Very Nice Place To Live
The management is wonderful to work with. They are very accomodating and really do what they can, to make your stay enjoyable. I had flown in from out of town to look for a place to live and after searching for two days I finally found Fairfax Square. I purchased some furniture locally and flew back home. The management allowed my furniture to be delivered to my rental and notified me when it had arrived. They made my transition go very smooth.

No problems here!
Just moved in, and they asked me to write something if my expreience went well and all. It did so here I am... Everything was ready on time, and the apartment was very nice, just as I expected. No bait and switch acts here... The folks are friendly, neighbors and staff. Have not had to use maintenance yet, hopefully won't... So, I'm enjoying it. Cool Clubhouse! I especially like having the 24 access to the fitness area, and that pool should be a lot of fun when the weather warms up... it's HUGE!!!

Can't wait to use that pub bar room upstairs during Monday night football... "that's what I'm talking about..." Anyway, the staff was nice, I've had no complaints. My move went as planned, firt time thats ever happened.. So, I'm pleased with it all. I'll let you know if it changes, but for now, it's all good...

Enjoyed It!
I must say that overall my experience at Fairfax square was quite pleasant. I only wish that I had been able to stay in the area long enoughto enjoy the beautiful new 3.5 million Clubhouse facility that they have just opened. The staff was always available, prompt. The grounds were always clean, the neighbors great, and my lab was always welcomed with pet treats when I paid rent, so he had no complaints either... So, all and all I guess I would have to say that compared my other past rental experiences this lease ranks right at the top! Yep, I'd move there again, hated to move but my job made that decision for me... Try it, you should actually enjoy renting for a change...

Nothing else compares.......
After looking at several apartments in the area, I decided to make my move to Fairfax Square. Trust me, nothing else in the area compares to the cleanliness of the apartment, grounds, hallways and overall apppeal. Just recently divorced, I was looking for a place to call home and have something to do in my extra time. The fitness center gives me just what I needed an opportunity to work out and in the meantime meet other tenants, which may share the same outlook as mine. I can honestly call this apartment community - HOME.

Townhouse living at a great price.
I have lived at Fairfax Square for several years. Am raising young children here; everything is convenient - schools, shopping, restaurants, metro and siteseeing. You could not find any other place like Fairfax Square.

A Good Place to Live!
My wife and I have lived at Fairfax Square for 9 months. Management is very friendly. Maintenance is decent sometimes slow. The facility is gorgeous. The price is nice. The location provides easy access to countless amenities. The neighbors are mostly hospitable. 50% of your rent can be applied to the purchase of a Van Metre Town home, with a cap of $9,000. The new clubhouse promises to provide a social and recreational focal point for the property. The property seems to cater to young professionals and families. All in all, a good deal and a great place to live.

The luxury of city living.
Just had the pleasure of renewing my lease for another year. Yes, I would highly recommend these apartments. My friends refer to me as a "city slicker" since I live in the city, but you know what - it still has alot of trees, green grass, open space. I have referred two of my co-workers, who actually moved in here. They love it, no complaints either.

Okay place
Staff was not the friendliest people I've met. I couldn't wait to get all arrangements done so I won't have to see them again. We had a one bedroom apartment which was pretty nice. It's true though, walls were too thin, and you can hear the neighbors. Try having a neighbor who plays same piano pieces over and over everyday and you will understand. :) There's a lot of parking space but the ones on the back are not very well lit. Wish management would send some people to clear pathways during snow season, its pretty dangerous walking on those paths. All in all, I was happy to be there, seems a good and safe neighborhood and pretty close to lots of stuff.

BAD experience
Have lived there about eight months and counting down the days till the lease it up. Had a plumbing emergency that was not handled in a timely manner despite numerous calls advising of the problem. Walls are thin and parking after 9 or 10 pm is impossible. They advertise to be pet friendly, but most residents do not have dogs and do not like dogs. Rented the apartment with the expectation of having a pool, but the pool was torn down in order to build another a few months ago, so we will never get to use the pool that we are paying for in our rent every month. Office staff is sometimes responsive, but at others times very slow and unhelpful. there is also a peeping tom that was spotted looking into our windows on several occasions and into the windows of our neighbors, that has apparantly been around for over a year. Apartments are fairly old and paint jobs appear to be done hastily and often. would not recommend.
