Poor Maintenance, Old equipment
Been here for @ 1.5 years and have been resigned to the old equipment in the home breaking often, horrible maintenance staff who just refuse to accept that old equipment do break often... For the price, this is way too expensive and ill-equipped... Would not recommend

I used to live in this appartment for nearly 16 months. Very nice place comparitively with all appartments for this price. No Parking hassels, No need of guest pakrking permit. More parking space and good good office staff especially Fannie and others. Its worth for your money
It is a worst experince for anyone to be at these apartments. They will attract you with discout rents and later on you will ahve to face real hell.
Aparments are not strongly built, cracks, poor dish washer, cracks in the walls, broken commodes, non maintained fire place. Carpet is on real bad shape..Everything looks like right when you see them for first time but later in when you touch they start falling. Very very old aprtments.
Not recommonded for families at all, as most of the aprtments are occupied by indian students and they make hell lot of noise. Its a real nuisance.
Its not a good choice at all.. Service is okey but tell me how many complaints would you give for a day saying there is a crack.. this broke.. that broke.. You get tired and sick of doing all these things..

We are facing this music in life, so I wouls advise you guys to vbe careful and spend a little more its okey if you have to spend 1200 dollars , when you get the best thing in life.. I have never seen bugs in VA until data. But these apartments have many..

Again its a total wrong choice. So be careful folks.
Good, relatively affordable place
Obviously most of the people who rate their apartments are doing so because they're displeased, so I'm not surprised that McNair Farms got so many negative reviews. However, having done a some research on our new apartment, I realized that I should probably put in my own two cents to balance out all these nay-sayers.

McNair Farms is a good place to live if you're resigned to living in Herndon (which my boyfriend and I were not). It's close to lots of great restaurants, most noteworthy being Minerva, one of the best Indian restaurants in the DC area. I always felt safe in the area, and the staff was friendly and helpful. My only qualm was the fitness center, which was scarcely more than a few ellipticals, a bowflex thing, two treadmills, and a broken rower. The pool is clean and has a very attentive lifeguard who teaches children swimming lessons. It's a great place for a new family or married couple, less so for younger people looking for a place with bars and theaters.

As long as you don't mind absence of a night life, this is a great place--ignore those who expect absolutely everything about their apartments to be perfect.

Nice Place -- The Issue is the Age of the Facility and Appliances
I basically like this place.

I think the staff is decent and helpful. The neighborhood is nice. I don't have any issues with the neighbors as a whole. I always found maintenance to be responsive. In the morning, I call a problem in and it's fixed when I get home.

The limitations are all in the facility itself.
* Old facility (relatively speaking)
* Appliances at the end of their useful lives
-Refrigerator is an inexplicably leaking condensation machine
-Perpetually leaking toilet
* Floorplan has limited storage space
* Kitchen needs more storage space
* Try arranging a living room with one wall (the other walls are a window, the bar/counter, and the fireplace). You get a rather illogical layout.
* Floor creaks severly (sagging, as someone said) and my balcony has old wood with nails sticking out all over

On the plus side, I can see that the management has put some money into the place this year. Contractors were going through maintaining everyone's water heater and pipes for a couple of months.

So I probably won't be renewing. I'll be looking for a larger, newer place.

Do not move to McNair Farms
I have lived in McNair famrs for 1 year and do not recommend it. First, the rent is high for what you get in comparison to other complexes in the Herndon area. There are newer complexes with similar rates. Also, be VERY LEARY of the cheaped rates they change up front. They require 2 months written notice to terminate a lease which is rediculous. For professionals who may need to move or accept a different job quickly a 2 month notice is crazy. It's all a way to get a little extra $$ out of people. There is not need to have two months to prepare a place for a new tennant.

McNair Farms is also a very loud place to live. There are a lot of young families with young children who are allowed to run around the parking lots and yards.

You can find more for the money. I recommend looking somewhere else.

I like it here
I currently live at McNair Farms and have been here for about 2 years. It has been a very pleasant place to live since I moved in. The apartment is wonderfully layed out, so furniture arranging was easy. And after shopping at 5-6 other complexes in the area, I found for what I get, this apartment home had the best price-about $300 less than other comparable homes.

Since I've lived here, the office staff has worked with on various different leases from 2 mos - 1 year, and although rent has increased, its never been more than $50 with each new lease. The other residents are generally very nice, the grounds are very well maintained and the maintenence staff always makes me feel welcome and is responsive to any problems I have. The office staff and property manager are equally kind and concerned when I have an issue.

If I have any problem, its probably more to do with other residents than anything the property can control. The community is pet-friendly, which I like, because I can have my golden retriever here, however, not all the residents feel an obligation to clean up after their pets. Other than that, I think its a wonderful place to live and I'd be happy to recommend it to anyone.

cheap=broken
So we move here, and get in at 2 in the morning.. they left keys under the mat. Unfortuately, they were the wrong keys. Which was ok, 'cause they left the apartment unlocked too. The heat was off, (after I called twice to make sure it would be turned on) and it was 17 degrees in the apt. Took emergency maintenance 3 hours to get heat. Then they hit us with a new clause in the lease that we would have to pay a $2000 penalty if we moved out early. Then the dishwasher didn't work, the thermostat didn't work, the stove didn't work, and the washer and dryer didn't work. Turns out in the 14 years this apt has been here, no one ever noticed (or complained) - but the dryer wasn't even vented to the outside at all - just vented to a wall.. they have to tear a hole in the roof to fix it (still waiting on that one).. they were supposed to get us a new washer/dryer several weeks ago.

In short - nothing works and when you complain the very pleasant office staff will write it down and immediately lose the note or any memory of the conversation. The staff has been very nice, but are probably the least competent people I've ever met.

WORST APT COMPLEX EVER!
DO NOT MOVE HERE, they will rip you off for as much as they can for low rent apartments. You will pay way too much for what it is worth. The only positive point about this place are the people in the leasing office.

I dig the Village at McNair Farms
I lived at McNair Farms for two years and liked it. The apartments have "charm" as my guests have pointed out to me. I am only moving because I got a job promotion in another state.

The office staff is helpful and maintenance is responsive. The property manager was especially kind, helpful and responsive to me.

When we had severe snowstorms, the parking lot was always cleared efficiently and early.

There are lovely flowers planted on the property. I never stepped in, or even saw, dog poop on the grounds. The trash bins are conveniently located. The apartment community is VERY quiet. As a result, I was able to sleep in on many a weekend. The various residents seem nice, and best of all mind their own business.

Oh, and for some reason the pool area was never crowded. Several of us had it to ourselves all summer. My tan was kickin´!

not bad
It´s not the best place I´ve been at, but I find that for the price I´m paying, it´s not bad.

The security system helps me feel safer considering i´m living on my own. It´s a nice neighborhood and I haven´t had many problems with the maintenance.

But I do agree with the earlier comment that the pigeons do use your balcony as a litter box...

Not bad, but you can find better for less.
It´s very expensive here -- and it´s really not worth it. Problems I have are with noisy neighbors, mold in the apartment, a floor that seems to be "sagging", an air conditioning system that is either off all the time or on full blast 24-7, and water that just seems to trickle out of the faucet and shower.

Some bad, some good
Staff was very friendly for the most part. There were (are) a few that I wasn´t too fond of, but that´s the case with any business.

Maintenance was the worst. First of all, they were idiots. Rude. Sleazy. Perverted. Disgusting. I felt uncomfortable everytime I saw one of them (and I think there are only two of them). They don´t know what an emergency is, so don´t page them. They don´t come. And the office doesn´t help in this matter either.

The apartment itself is ok. Nothing great, but not bad. Water in the shower is terrible. It just spits at you. I had ants all the time, but nothing a can of RAID couldn´t fix. Annoying, but I managed.

Oh, and the BALCONY! I was one of the lucky ones whose balcony was used as a litter box for PIGEONS!!! I couldn´t even set chairs or a table out there because there was POO everywhere! So, no, that wasn´t good at all. In fact, it was disgusting.

If you complain enough and really cause a stink, it helps. It´s the only way anything will ever get fixed. I was pretty much a -----, and things got fixed. So use that to your advantage.

On a good note, I always felt safe there (I lived by myself) and never had any problems with car break-ins or theft of any kind. That part was good. And you can walk to the shopping center.

not worth it
Apartment is old and falling apart. It was a pain in the butt to get maintenece to come and do anything. Many times too them over 3 months to get something fixed. There are many better places to live in that area. I found that out too late.

Its ok
I have to admit that the Village is a good place to live. The maintenance staff and office staff are very friendly.

I only have a problem with people that live around me. I have the the most loud people above and below me. I have complained, but the noise still happens.

The price is quite high for such a small apartment. The smaller one bedroom is very, very small and the layout makes it hard to have your furniture set up without putting it in front of the fireplace.
