Old Place
This place is old and outdated. Right next door to these apartments are a bunch of ran down aparments, I believe one of them is low income housing, and a bunch of rift rafts live there, so you are close enough to get your car broken into or mugged. I don't like the entrace ways either, it is locked up like Fort Knox, whomever is coming over to see you, you gotta talk to them on a intercom system and buzz them in. The Hall Ways are really stuffy in the summer time, so you are already sweating a bunch from the heat, you gotta sweat some more getting into the apartment building, and of course you will be nice and cool once you get into your apartment. The apartments have tons of space, they are really huge , but like I said this place is really old and out lived it's glory years about 15 years ago. The price you pay as I remember was a little more than I would like to pay for a place that is soooo Old. Much better apartments in the Fort Wayne area, for the same price and are tons better.

We really like it here
Versailles on the Lake is a great place to live so far. Been here 6 months, and the staff is always very friendly. They even followed up after a maintenance item was complete to see if we were satisfied with the work done. The grounds are kept up beautifully for such an old property, it is beautiful here in the summer and fall. Our apartment has the biggest bedrooms for a 2 bedroom apartment I´ve ever seen. The only complaints we have are the windows are rather cheap, but I suppose it´s like that at many apartment complexes. I would also like to add that although the basements were redone, and no temporary storage was provided while the work was completed (which, I don´t see how they could have done that anyway, nor did we expect that from them-afterall they were trying to make an IMPROVEMENT)the maintenane men were more than helpful in helping us move our things out of storage and into our apartment. Anyway, I definately recommend living here.

Good floor plans, terrible management
My wife and I moved here after a drug dealer moved in next door at our previous apartment. Everything was great and we fell in love with the floor plan and moved in. When we first moved in maintance was great too (most of the good people have since left). Everything has gone downhill from there.

Bad points:
* We had to wait for a month and a half before they fixed the window in the small bedroom. It finally took a threat to call the health department about the mold growing in the window frame to get them to do something about it.
* Both of my cars have been "egged".
* They charge a $150 non-refundable deposit and $20/month per pet.
* Laundry rooms are somewhat clean.
* They´re fixing the storage units in the basement but not providing any temporary replacement storage.
* There has been a huge hole in the lobby ceiling (for plumbing access) for nearly a month.
* Neighbor noises.
* The property manager is often unfriendly, unresponsive, and acts "put off" to respond to any requests (like fixing windows).

VERY NICE!
My apartment was very clean when I moved in. Only a few minor things were wrong like my blinds wouldn´t twist open, but maintenance fixed them the same day! The staff is very friendly. The apartments are a little older, but my apartment has all updated appliances and it is very clean here in the hallways and on the grounds. It is also fairly quiet with not a lot of traffic which I like. I read the last review, and I have never experienced the halls smelling bad. Occasionally you can smell it if someone is cooking something, but thats in all apartment complexes. I see cleaning people in the hallways at least once a week. My hallway has always been clean. The only suggestion I would have is to have the mowers mow more often. They mow once a week I think, but the grass gets a little too tall. The only other thing I can think of is you can hear footsteps from above, but again that´s at any apartment complex. I will definitely renew unless I buy a house.

not renewing my lease
My lease is up soon and I will be moving out. The maintenance is slow and my dishwasher has never really worked very well. The utilities are a lot higher than they quoted me. The manager has her favorites - and I am not one of them unfortunately. The atmosphere is old and the long hallways have a tendency to smell like a mixmash of different foods instead of neutral or good smelling. Sometimes I have to put a towel at the bottom of my door to keep the smell out of my apartment.

Nice...
I have lived here for almost a year now and am impressed with the service. The apartments are older, but it doesn´t matter because the maintenance is excellent. They respond almost immediately. The girl in the office is very nice and helpful. I have only met the manager twice, but she seems very nice too. The apartments aren´t glamorous, but are clean and well maintained. I would recommend to anyone looking for a decent place to live and great service.

Wonderful Maintenance and Staff
Versailles on the Lakes is a great place to live. The maintenance staff responds really fast and the office people know you´re name and really care about you.

I am so glad I moved in here.

Moving when our lease is up.
If you had a problem, the one maintenance guy made the apartment smell like cigarettes because he smells so bad - like he smoked inside a box for an hour before he came in. The laundry rooms always have soap spills and everyone elses dryer lint. The manager doesn´t really care about what you have to say but wants to make sure you understand her opinion. My one neighbor always plays his music loud but nothing is done about it - I think it is a friend of one of the office people. I liked my floor plan alright - the bedrooms being separated by the living room was good considering my roommate and I both had boyfriends over sometimes which allowed privacy. They really work to sell the apartment to you, acting like you are their best friend, but once you get in, they don´t recognize you and they don´t care.

Our lease is up in two months and even though they are offering to lower our rent, we are am moving out.

going downhill
I lived here for a little over 4 years, in a studio. It was rather large for a studio. Pleasant surroundings. Convenient area of town.

However, the noise level of my neighbor (& the smoking in the hallways) finally made me break my lease and get out. The residents are becoming more transitory and often first-time renters (as in, college students or groups of working adults). Things had gone downhill for a while (in general, residents did not treat the common areas with respect). Also, a neighboring apartment area had some loud stereos and I was beginning to feel less than safe after my car was broken into.

The management was ineffective in dealing with disruptive residents. This was after the place was bought out by AIMCO, about a year before I finally got out.

I would suggest never to rent from an AIMCO-run apartment complex.
