Not worth the amount of money you pay in rent.
I am very disappointed with how the complex is run. The 24 hour guarantee means nothing and often not kept. You never know when someone is coming or has been in your apartment. People who say they are maintenance have keys to come and do routine service but they are not known to be staff. Mgmt is untruthful about the utilities, you pay for garbage, sewage and water also, which can run over $55 for s&w EACH. Plus, they do not mention the Baysox play next door and you can expect loud booming fireworks atleast 3 or 4 nights (including weeknights at 10pm) all during the spring and summer. During the winter you can expect to shovel your own stairs and walkways. This will definitely not be a lease renewal situation.

Dangerous area
When I first moved into Governor's Green, I was extremely happy with my choice. The apartment was quite spacious, the staff were very friendly and the neighbors were quiet and respectful. However, this initial happiness quickly evaporated.

The children around here seem to run without supervision at all hours. It is not unlikely to see a group of kids sitting in the courtyard at 2 a.m. Additionally, I caught a group of kids trying to break into my garage and then spray painting the side of a trailer. I reported this activity to the office staff, after filing a police report, and the staff was quite ignorant to the issue and basically told me "oh well."

There is also the problem of rogue towing, which I also reported to the office staff. Continental towing, which was the contracted towing company for Archstone, was towing vehicles from the complex, illegally storing them on the complex (which is illegal) and then making people pay extra to get their car back. I talked to the police, who informed me that this activity is super wrong and then told me that they were conducting an investigation into this activity.

I told the office staff and they told me to "mind your own business" and you are "way too nosey." Come to find out that it was suspected that the office staff MAY (not proven, opinion only) have been receiving kickbacks from the towing company.

Bottom line, the office staff is completely rude and ignorant to the tenets needs. Crime is high, the area is dangerous and the rent is increasing. Any place will have its pros and cons, but be aware of what Archstone Governor's Green has to offer.

I love it here!
I have lived here with my husband and two year old son for almost a year now, and we love it! Our apartment is beautiful and our neighbors are very friendly - Not to mention the office staff. The maintenance staff here is unlike any other! They actually respond to service requests here within a day! The leasing office has always been extremely helpful and nice! Like other reviewers mentioned, the only real problem here is being right off of 301! Yes, the prices are high, but don't you pay for quality? I would definitely recommend Archstone Governors Green!

Nice but be careful
This is a nice complex but be careful that you know your surroundings, I have lived here for a year now and I have experienced several gunshots and robberies. The last shooting was in January during an attempted car theft. When I asked the office staff about the incident they informed me that they would be notifying the residents in 24-48 hours, needless to say I havent got anything. Yet and still the light in the parking lot near the incident still hasnt been fixed (building 16505).

Oh yeah, get a P.O. Box at the post office, because you wont get all your mail. On several occasions I have received my neighbors paychecks in my mailbox and God only knows how much of my mail is out there somewhere.

Once they get you in a lease dont expect the same level of service, they are always too busy to even say hello when you come in the office. The young lady that helped me with my lease has since left the property and I have yet to find anyone close to being as nice as she was.

This is a nice property but know what your getting into. Ask lots of questions and make sure they tell you about the "courtesy officer" (HAHAHA)that patrols especially while people steal cars and shoot everything up. Also be aware that during snows you will be stuck because they dont plow both sides of the street.

Nice I like it
I moved in about 6 months ago. I like it. The maintenance here is great and very expedient in service. I have lived in a lot of placed where the maintenance did not care. I am always greeted by someone who can either help me or at least direct me to the right person. The prices are high, but the area in general is that way.

HUGE WARNING - **NOISE**
Hi everyone,

I moved into Archstone Apartments almost a year ago. These are very nice and well kept apartments and maintenance is usually speedy.

HOWEVER - BEWARE. This apartment complex is right next to a baseball stadium. For 4-5 months at a time, 3-4 times a week, at approximately 10:00 p.m., there is fireworks display in the baseball stadium for about an hour or longer. It literally sounds like BOMBS going off right outside of your door. I can sleep through ANYTHING but not this. Not only is it noisy but actually hurts your ears, and this is WITH the windows closed. It is surprising that they don't warn people about this prior to moving in. If one was to purchase property in this area, surely, you could sue later for someone not disclosing this fact to you. I am highlighting this issue because if I had known about it, I would not have moved here. The first time I heard it, I called the police, thinking that some kid was setting off firecrackers in the parking lot.

Also, these apartments are EXTREMELY expensive - we have a 2 bedroom/2 bath for $1300. The walls are thin - everytime our neighbor takes a shower, you can hear him/her turn on the faucet.

Great Place, High Rent
I´ve lived at Governor#s Green for over two years and I still love it. The ground are well kept and the area is generally nice and peaceful. Car theft is a steady problem (1 every three months or so). The apartments are roomy, well appointed, and new. My unit has a really long living room which helps accommodate my large tv and bedrooms that are far enough apart as to insure some measure of privacy between roomates.

People are respectful and generally keep to themselves. Parking in some areas can be a problem. Over the last year or so more families with children have moved in but, still, I have not had any problems with excesive noise or anything. Getting into and out of the complex is an annoyance as the lights at the intersection do not last long enough.

The complex is located at the intersection of Routes 301, 50 and 3. All this means easy access to all points North (Baltimore, NY), west (Washington, VA), South (Richmond, Southern MD) and east (Ocean City). The New Carolton train station (Marc, Metro, Amtrak and Greyhound) is less than 10 miles away and BWI is about 20 miles north. The Bowie Town Center along with a movie theater is within 3 miles and there a lot of resturants located to choose from.

To me, if you want to live in the burbs, but still have easy access to city life, Bowie is an ideal location to live - you´ve got easy access to everything. You can party-harty and come home to peace and quiet.

My only compliant, like everyone else, is that the rent is way too high. Sadly this going to be my last year because I frankly can´t afford it anymore. I love it but its being priced out of my budget. It would be great if management offered people the same discounts to stay on as they do to move in.

Nice but VERY Expensive!!!!
The apartments are very nice, only a couple years old. The all appartments come with nice full size washer, dryer, and dishwashers. It takes a little while to get maintenance done if it´s not an emergency. Unless you want to pay $150 a month for a garage, the parking is free for all, no assigned spaces. The "fitness center" is really small as is the pool and the hours of the pool are not very convenient. If you need metro for transportation it´s rather inconveniant since the closest bus stop is about 3/4 of a mile away and accross a busy highway from the complex. I don´t recomend living here if you don´t have a car to cross the highway. Dispite all this they are very nice and if you can afford it well worth it.

Liked alot, actually
"Cars stolen every weekend--cars on blocks in front of the buildings" Oh, come on, you can do better than that can´t you? Was tenant for 12 months, never had one problem. A bit noisy by our upstairs neighbors (child liked to "wrestle" alot, and I am assuming he jumped from the "top rope" more times than none). Paid a hefty rent, but very nice appliances/bathrooms. Pool never seemed to be open--but then again, every complex in the state probably share the same hours. Leasing office staff was nice, helpful. Maintenance staff was excellent. Had my A/C unit explode in the middle of the night and flood my apartment and the entire ground floor. Maintenance man drove from Baltimore and was on the scene at 3 am. People say "Bowie is this and Bowie is that, and crime and blah blah blah"--all I have to say is why didn´t you move to Crofton then? Or Annapolis? Pay the extra money. Move to a less "divided" area. Yes, that is what the other raters are are trying to say--the grounds were "too mixed." Well, this isn´t North Dakota, and is a metro area. I never had any problems with ANYONE at Archstone Governor´s Green. Everyone was professional and nice. Never had any problems with "parties." The only real quip I had with the community was the left turn from RT 301. Whew, now that is a long light. Very close to shopping. Very close to entertainment, stores, restaurants. I felt safe at Archstone. Just got to small for us. High accolades. GREAT MANAGEMENT COMPANY. Better than BOZZUTO. PS The one complaint I did have (I don´t remember what it was) was addressed by the Vice President of Archstone.

Great Apartment / High Rent / Theft
I loved the "room mate" set up with the two bedrooms, two baths. It worked out perfectly for my husband and I and our 2 year old son.

Rent just kept on getting higher.

There were cars stolen out of the lot every weekend. Also cars completely stripped and left on blocks. right outside the building!!

We moved out because the crime and the parties were too much for a new family. Besides our mortage on our new home is $200 less than our rent. We also had to get a garage because we needed more storage.

good but location inconvenient
I moved to Archstone Governor´s Green sight unseen, using Archstone´s policy of allowing renters from other complexes they own/manage to switch the lease without penalty. This is a terrific perk, by the way!

I was pleasantly surprised by the apartment. The kitchen was excellent...roomy, with good appliances. Everything else was quite good. The walls are thin, as mentioned by the previous reviewer. It was more the plumbing noises than the people, which seemed rather strange to me.

The people at the office were always pleasant and helpful.

The one problem I had was that the apartments are rather far out from anything like major shopping, entertainment, etc.

I´d still be living there except for the fact that I got a job in Northern Virginia and the 70-mile round trip commute over there was starting to kill me.
