MDU Communications is abyssmal

The pre-packaged internet service attached to the unity is absolutely horrible. My wife and I are both technical professionals (as there are a lot of Technical workplaces in the immediate vicinity)and we value our internet service. The internet service alone is the only reason we are considering leaving. It is absolutely frustrating to have your internet connections continually interrrupted when using any streaming application, or when downloading a movie from legitimate internet services, or iTunes. It forces you to use an internet browser to re-authenticate seemingly every hour. It will disconnect and then reload the mymdu.com page. They say they are trying to dump MyMDU, but if they don' do it before my contract is up of provide us with another option to pay for better internet service, then we are leaving the community. I will amend this to say that when we moved in last summer the internet service was much better, but it has gotten very bad since November. After talking o other residents who have been here for a long time I have come to find out that the service on the internet side is very cyclical, going from very good to horrible. I would be very pleased with this complex and would recommend it if there were at least options to get some reliable internet services. I would even pay a premium for another option, such as Cox or Verizon, or a premium tier of MyMDU if it didn't have the same problems. No option exists presently for us to gain customer satisfaction in this regard other than making our complain known (which we have done).

Extremely Pleased with my decision to live here!

I wanted to express my deepest appreciation for the superior service that your Management staff has given me. I have never been treated such professionalism and courtesy. This was a difficult decision for me to make. Moving from Maryland were most a family are located and my first time to live in Virginia I did not know what to expect. I searched for 2 months on apartments, among the 25 apartment that I looked at online; there were 15 I narrowed down too. When I came to Van Metre I was very impressed. Andrea was the first person that I talk to, with the charm and hospitality. I felt that I had been here already. Andrea has the professionalism and the customer service the truly says, Signature service. The day I came here is the day I signed for the lease, even thou I could have waited for almost two month to move from my other apartment I wanted to live here. Not just because of the Wonderful arrangement of floor plans, but what won me over was the people. Andrea treated me with respect and kindness. She s great, works very hard to make sure I am happy and really care if I love my home, I really do. There are others that have meant the same criteria, Tom and Catlin, have been Superior. No matter what I have asked, when Andrea was not there, they made sure it was done. That is very refreshing to see people works together to make sure others are happy. That s what you call teamwork. I can t thank everyone enough for making this a home that I can enjoy and remember. They all deserve more than 5 stars; I would give 10 if there were 10 to give.

Everything is great about this community. The leasing office is staffed with wonderful people just as the maintenance staff is.

Just leased yesterday!

I just leased my 1 bedroom yesterday and I cannot believe how easy it was! I was in and out of there within the hour and I could not be happier with my decision. I can't wait to move in!

Yes, the location is great

I agree, the location of Woodland Park is a great fit for my needs as well. Im happy to call this place home. Plan to buy a Van Metre home in a few years.

Great location!

I throughly did my research when apartment hunting and when I came here and saw that I was going to be living in the hub of everything I needed I was instantly sold. Not only did I choose the right location but I absolutely love my apartment!

Maintenance team is top notch

Thank you to the great maintenance team who took care of my heat tonight. Tonight is not the night to lose heat, but when I did maintenance was there in 15 minutes. That alone will cause me to re sign my lease in June.

Great Location

I have to say that my hole experience at Woodland Park has been great. The maintenance team is very prompt and professional. My leasing agent made things go very smooth and the location is perfect for me.

Moving back...

I moved out of Woodland Park in 2007 just for a change of scenery, but when my lease is up I'm moving back. Wish I hadn't of moved to begin with. I put myself on the priority waiting list just to ensure I would be next in line. To the person before me that had a parking issue, spend the money on the garage, it is really worth it in the snow.

The right choice for me

I moved into this community 2 years ago and am very happy with my decision to do so. I choose to continue living here for the many programs that Van Metre has to offer for not only myself but everyone. The recent wine social was great and I am looking forward to next month's event!

Living enjoyable.....

I am enjoying my living here at this community. My roommate and I like the apt. and have had a pretty good experience overall. We moved in a few months ago and have finally settled in nicely. the shopping center across the way is great and we go over there often. Parking is ok, have had a few problems finding a spot but overall ok. I would recommend this community to anyone looking for a good place to live.

Im buying a Van Metre home

I only moved to Woodland Park because I am buying a Van Metre home in the Broadlands. The community was recommended by the person I bought my home from and its a great place to call home while they build my dream house. They have made me feel very comfortable and reassured me that I will have a place to live up until the day I move into my house. No hotels is a huge plus. I will be moving out in March, but it truly has been a great place to live.

I am very happy with this Community

I have lived here since the first year it was open back in 2001 and I have no plans on leaving any time soon. My apartment is great and I can't wait to upgrade to a town home when my lease is up.

My new apartment

My new apartment is beautiful (I just moved in last week), just like the model. I first went in to Woodland Park and looked at their Hawthorne model which was breath taking. I rented right then and have been satisfied ever since. Sometimes you look at models and they look nothing like the actual apartment, but luckily for me this was not the case. Looking forward to the wine social tonight! I was also very impressed like another reader with the snow pick up, they did a nice job.

DO NOT MOVE HERE IF YOU WANT INTERNET AND CABLE TV

MDU is the worst ISP/Cable provider I have ever been in contact with. I am at the point of breaking my lease and suing both Van Metre and MyMDU. I have had nothing but problems with MDU.

Leasing process was very easy

I just leased an apartment at Woodland Park and it was extremely easy. Ive only lived here for a couple of days, but so far everything has been great. Nice to see the maintenance team out clearly snow on a day like this.

Very nice community

I have lived in a lot of different apartment communities and this one is by far the best one yet. The office staff is very friendly and willing to help at anytime I need them. Overall I give Woodland Park a 10

Good propery, but MDU Communications is a complete nightmare

This apartment community comes with it's own packaged high-speed internet and cable service (basic cable HBO). It is included with your rent, and you cannot use another service -- they will charge you the monthly fee regardless if you are using them or not. Right now, their service is through a company called MDU Communications, which I think is a subset of Comcast and DirecTV. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Stay away from this property simply because of this, if you care at all about your internet or cable connection. Our internet connection is terrible, and talking with MDU about it is a complete nightmare. They will make false promises, they never have any answers and they give you generic "it's on your end" answers as if you were lying to them. I'm an IT professional by trade, so it's frustrating to see such poor service. I will repeat myself: EVERYTHING ABOUT MDU COMMUNICATIONS IS ABYSMAL. STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING THEY TOUCH. The cable TV side is a little better, although be prepared for random channel quirks like channel 10 suddenly becoming a PBS station for 4-5 days at a time, but if you call them they will tell you that they have to send a tech out there and they won't be able to schedule one for 2-3 weeks. To the apartment management's credit, they are attempting to "dump" MDU because of all the complaints they get. But until they do, stay away from this community if you value those services at all. Aside from limited parking space (especially if you don't rent a garage and/or have multiple vehicles), the apartments are very nice and the maintenance staff is extremely fast. The management staff is professional, we've never had a problem talking with them. It's a shame that MDU Communications is giving this good apartment community such a bad name.

I agree, it is great

Nice community, very up to date, competitive pricing, close to shopping, and the people that work there are very nice. Im happy that I leased at Woodland Park and plan to renew my lease.

Very pleased with my choice to lease here

Because we are very pleased with the management at the complex, we are exploring the possibility of renting a townhouse at Woodland Park. ------------- has done a wonderful job and we really appreciate the great service she has provided and because of this we will consider moving into another unit.

Positive Reviews Are Written by Woodland Park Employees!

Some of the postive reviews are posted by Woodland Park employees. I wrote a mostly negative review on the Van Metre website and they only took the postive parts (which were very few)and posted it here on this site. All of the negative reviews are pretty accurate. These apartments are very noisy and parking sucks, especially after 8pm. These apartments are also pretty poorly constructed. As I write this I can hear my upstairs neighbor walking around. Very noisy apartments!!!! I can't wait until my lease is up. You'll be really sorry if you move here, I know I am. The negative reviews are the most accurate.

Large Community doesn't effect excellence of Management

The grounds and units are kept in great condition and considering the number of units in this complex, the management is excellent. Overall, my experience has been a very positive one.
