The Worst Place EVER!

OH MY GOODNESS! Where do I start? We moved out of there a few months ago (THANK GOD) and I am just getting a moment to type this. This is the WORST place I have EVER lived. What could go wrong, went wrong! First off, I moved from out of state so I was pretty much moving in blind. When we did our walk through the previous owner must have had a big dog. He chewed on all of the trim work in all of the rooms, on the patio wood, peed in the carpet (you could see and smell it), the kitchen linolium was horrible. The sales agent was even embarrased about how it looked. He told us it would be taken care of. After driving across country with a toddler we were tired and said ok and moved in. MONTHS went by and no one would get back to us. Finally, they did come back and replace the wood but never came back to paint it. Very embarrasing when you had guests over. Especially with the price we were paying to live in "luxury" apartments. (Rolling my eyes) When we moved in we were given temp parking passes because they were out of the regular. I was under the impression that they would get those to me when they got them in. I never even noticed they were only good for a month. So one night my husband walked out and both of our cars were gone! They towed them! We had to pay $300 to get them back. I went up to the office to get an answer the next day and they were so rude and didn't care. They had me in tears. Obviously, they don't give a crap about their residents. They will give you a 48 hr notice before they tow if you have expired tags but won't give you any kind for their own parking passes. UGH! So backwards. Before we moved in we asked if we could bring our own washer and dryer and fridge. They said no so we had to sell ours. Their washer and dryer ruined all of our clothes with holes and rust. We let them know and they did not even bat an eye. They said they would come and fix it and we had to call several times to remind them. Our water stopped running out of our kitchen sink and it took 2 1/2 weeks for them to come out and even look at it. We decided to move out early and take the hit. It was well worth it. We paid everything but one months rent because they told us since we lived in such a dirty and damaged apt for that long they would put it next on the list to be rented and we would get out of paying some of that rent. We tried to pay it up front and told them they could send us a refund but they denied it. 2 weeks later we get a call and they had rented the apt out again and said we owed $x.xx amount. We told them we would like to see a bill and she said she would get that right out to us. Never did. We called several times and left messages. Never got a call back. It has been months and we now just got a letter from a collections agency. We called and cleared it up with them that day but it should never have gotten to this point. We never got a bill. We told them we wanted it in writing. The collections agency said that Brittany Commons notes says they have been trying to get ahold of us for months! HA! They have our address and phone numbers and all of our mail has been forwarded. Please do not move here! I would hate for anyone to be treated like this. The management office is HORRIBLE! No one stays for very long. Just like a revolving door. They are not organized and keep horrible records. And as soon as you sign the lease with them, they are plain RUDE! Oh and I heard from a neighbor that they didn't even finish fixing the wood or didn't replace the carpet before the next person moved in. YUCK!

    Stay away from Brittany Commons

    My husband and I have lived in Brittney Commons Apartments for 10 months now and are terminating our lease early due to all of the problems in which we have faces. When we first moved in the outlets sparked when you plugged anything in and it took maintenance three weeks to come and look at it and make up some excuse as to why it was sparking (this is all after one of the apartment buildings burnt to the ground and you would think that they would have learned). We have had numerous other problems such as a water heater leak (well flood) that flooded our master bedroom and ruined our furniture that maintenance wasn't very receptive about the whole situation and our master bedroom was in disarray for a week in a half. Our heating and cooling unit also went out in December and it took them until the end of February to fix it. Don't move into Brittany Commons unless you don't care for any of your own things and want the stress of a poorly managed "luxury apartment".

      The MANAGEMENT is horrible!!!!!

      I will give them that the area is fine,parking seems fine to me except not enough visitor parking (especially since there is an ample amount of regular open spaces).The gates are a nuisance (sometimes work---most of the time they do NOT work).The maintanance is ok I guess except the a/c and heat are still messed up in my apt and have been since September. I have heard stories about them taking things from apts. but have not had it to me. They did once 2wks after we had moved in,just up and came into my apt @ 9:00 am and scare me and my dogs. They did not knock just walked right on in ( a little disturbing), I called the Office and they told me That I had told them it was ok for the maintanance to do that. --------. Who in there right mind would say "Yes,just go in at anytime you like".NOT ME! Then the only other problem is the a/c but I will be moving soon so I do not have to worry about it. Then there are the residents,I have had no problems with anyone who lives here. Now the Management is a whole different issue. They do have a revolving door effect in that office. I have never seen a business go through that many employees in a short span of time. That usually signifies a BIG problem with their internal management. Here is a story about rent,I have never been late on one rent payment,and i mean never. One day in July I got a nasty letter mailed to me and it said that First I was late and owed this XX amount of money,and then they tried to charge me this ridiculous amount of late fees sum totally almost 500$. When in your lease it clearly state a 10% late fee which last time I checked I did not pay 5000$ a month in rent.Then also I personally am not on the lease,my husband is,yet every corrospondence is adressed to me(the one not on the lease). And last but not least,they tell you that you have to give them a 60 day notice to leave, yet they do not tell you how much your lease will be until 1wk before you need to sign or be put on a month to month(which is way more $). Overall the management sheds such a poor light that I have decided to move(wahoo) This place has gone from in my opinion a nice place to live,to a ---- Hole all because of the CRAPPY MANAGEMENT!

        Thank you for Clarity

        I just read the last review that was posted. I was the person who posted right before that. Now I understand why people don't like the management, for the first time ever! I'm moving when my lease is up, so I didnt' think much about it. But now I really need to start looking at the moving out procedures here, before my butt gets caught in all of this fire. Oh and we were robbed like two weeks ago. *edit*: I just posted this and it erased my old post. Anywhoo... this is my new opinion. I appreciate the people who take the time to write details and legitamate reviews. I hate it when someone just bashes an apartment complex because that person doesn't know the difference between something the apartment complex controls and an irritable tenant.

          P.U. this place reeks!!

          I can't wait to get out of this place! The apartment has so many defects in it, crappy carpeting that is almost WHITE and stains easily, everything breaks and when it does, don't expect it to get fixed anytime soon. Also, don't complain about maintenance or they will report your apartment for being unclean and you will have an inspection in which they make you do a top to bottom cleaning (move fridge, washer, dryer and scrub under each) etc... they come check your apartment several times a year with a HUGE cleaning list, the rent goes up EVERY time you renew your lease by at least $50.00 minimum. The staff NEVER returns your calls; they are completely disorganized and keep terrible records. Parking is terrible, there are not enough spaces for tenants let alone guests so tenants end up taking up all the guest parking leaving NONE for the guests. They advertise a security gate but it is NEVER working. Don't expect to get your deposit back either, I've heard horror stories from people who have left. The walls are paper thin here, so if you're a light sleeper, good luck with that. The playground equipment was installed improperly so that the slide is about 2 feet too high making it very unsafe. They also recently had a fire and it was allegedly caused by the water heater. YIKES, I could go on and on...

            Nice place, horrible staff.

            I've lived here in 2 different apartments for about 18 months. They are pricier for the area, but the apartments are generally nice, the location is ideal for me, & I haven't had a single problem with a neighbor or other residents. However, like other reviewers - I have had a miserable time getting routine maintenance problems fixed. When I was without an appliance for over a month and had recurring problems in other areas of my apartment, the staff refused to give me a rent discount. They are generally unresponsive (i.e. won't return calls) and occasionally are downright rude. This is also the NEW staff - since I've been here, they appear to have gone through at least 3 different cycle of management and office employees. I will NOT be renewing my lease at the end of this term and am already looking for another place to live -- I'd rather break my lease than give this management another dime!

              apartment is great, office staff is horrible

              I absolutely love my apartment here, but the atrocious customer service and automatic rent increases mean that I will be looking for somewhere new to live when my lease is up. In my experience, emergency maintenance problems (like no hot water) are taken care of within hours, but smaller problems can take several months and multiple requests to get fixed. The management office appears to have frequent turnover of personnel, which likely accounts for many of the problems they experience. I have had very few problems with parking, but they will tow if you don t have a sticker or if your tags have expired. Noise has never been an issue for me here. Overall, I have been fairly satisfied with my time here. However, for what I pay in rent each month I would rather try my luck at another complex.

                Great Apartments, Horrible Staff

                The apartments themselves are pretty well made, generaly clean, and have nice amenities. The area is nice and there are lots of parking spots. Unfortunately, the staff are HORRIBLE. They're great until you sign your lease. Once you sign your lease, they won't return phone calls, maintenance doesn't fix stuff, staff change policies on a whim and don't inform residents. Absolutely the most horrible management of a facility that I've ever seen.

                  Maintenance comes in without adequate warning; maintenance uses vacant apartments for their own use; communication with rental office personnel vague and management doesn't provide documentation when called; paper-thin walls allows multiple complaints from tenant to tenant.

                    Maintenence SUCKS!!!! We moved into an apartment that was not nearly ready to move in. Light switch covers not on light fixture hanging from the ceiling floor tile coming up toilet not even bolted down to the ground...the list could go on. And guess what?? They STILL havent come back to fix the problems. NONE OF THEM!! We have called almost every day for the past 2 weeks and nothing has been done. If you have to live in this area PLEASE DO NOT RENT HERE!!! i will tell everyone NOT TO RENT HERE. Management sucks, they dont take any action on any problem that is brought to their attention.

                      Weird...

                      A lot of the complaints on here are very similar..."paper thin" walls, bad management and maintenence staff, too much noise, no parking, etc. I have to say, when I first read a lot of these reviews, I didn't even want to check Brittany Commons out. However, I'm very glad I did. Maybe it's just me, since my last apartment was extremely ------ and in an unsafe neighborhood, but I find Brittany Commons to be the best place I've lived in since I was a kid living with my parents.<br><br>I've never heard my neighbors while in my apartment. Sometimes I hear the people upstairs, but that's too be expected. There is a LOT of parking, here...there are always empty spaces in my area of BC apts. The management staff are just young. That doesn't make them ignorant or "bimbos." We've never had a problem with maintenence...everything has taken less than 24 hours to fix. And as for overall noise? This is the quietest area I've ever lived in. Coming from an extremely LOUD and obnoxiuos neighborhood, this place is a dream come true. Yes, it's more expensive than most other apartments in this area, but you get what you pay for. I'd rather pay more to feel safe and enjoy peace and quiet, rather than pay very little and GET very little.<br><br>One last thing--someone mentioned "shady renters?" I take walks around the complex frequently, and have never seen a "shady" person. Believe me, I know what a shady person is. This place is far from a crime area.<br>

                        What's necessary to receive a response?

                        I have tried everything to have this management staff respond to my complaints and needs, this is one of my last resorts.<br><br>I have only lived at BC for 3 months and it has been the worst experience! I am not going to complain about petty issues such as noise and parking issues. I realize I do live in an apartment and those issues do arise along with that. I do believe that everything that can be done with those concerns it being performed.<br><br>What I will complain about are the things that truly matter; adequate friendly response and service requests being fufilled. Unfortunately for this complex that is an issue. Since the day I moved in I notified the management office about the washing machine smelling so terrible of mildew that I had to keep the door closed at all times and hold my breath when I entered. I also had holes in my carpet and simple things not working with a "ready to rent" apartment. It has always taken the maintenance office more than a week to see to the issue, which is never done properly. I shouldn't have to continously go to the management to bug them about getting to my request. A week is unacceptable! When the same complaint has been an issue three times then clearly something more should be done.<br><br>This apartment complex upset me so much that I have submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, trying to recieve some sort of response. Once I was tired of requesting, to no avail, for repairs that needed to be done to my apartment I requested the corporate office's number. Although the office was reluctant to supply the number they eventually did. To my surprise even the corporate office would not return my call!<br><br>The management team even was irresponsible enough to e-mail within their office rudely about me and cc me on it to read! Here is all I am asking for: a management team to respect and care about their tenants, especially for all the hard earned money that we pay to receive that. I am a Manager myself and I would never dream of treating my customers and clients the way this complex has treated me. They clearly do not know how to show true hospitality and run this complex effectively, that point is proven by all of these awful reviews. <br><br>I recommend to you that if you are considering this apartment complex please reconsider, take the advice from all these people. (All of us can't be wrong right?)One other thing to note. I've notoced many apartment complexes have responded to their compliants on this website to both negative and positive reviews, Why are there no comments from this management team? That's the least they could do to show all of these people they care, it's quite obvious they do not.<br><br>Thank you and good luck apartement hunting!

                          Terrible management

                          BC has the worst management I've ever seen. I have had problem after problem with them. I had no hotwater for 1 1/2 weeks. I had to call there home office to get them moving. If that was not bad enough, I also had a strong gass smell in my house. They refuse to put me and my children up in a hotel until the situation was resolved. I can't wait for my lease to be up and i may just have to break it if this continues. I pay rent not to have to deal with these issues.

                            Poor Management and Too expensive

                            Brittany Commons is way to expensive for the little space it has. Although, it is a nice apartment on the outside. However on the inside, the walls are paper thin. You can hear everything thats going on in the neigbors. The Management Team sre nice but they Sucks!!<br>When something needs to be repaired it takes management 1-2 weeks to respond and sometimes they dont respond. 991 sq foot apt

                                management stinks

                                I have lived at brittany Commons for almost a year and it has been very problimatic. There is not enough parking, trash is everywhere, and the rooms are noisey. When I had a problem with a neighbor I tried to speaqk with the manager. She is very cold, snippy, and rude. She did not have a clue about the property and seemed out of touch with her staff. The staff is very helpful and were the ones to give me help. (none of them like the manager either.) Look elsewhere for an aparment

                                  Find another place - ANY PLACE!!!!!!

                                  I have lived in BC for nearly nine months. I have lived in apartments for nearly four years now and this is by far the worst. The pictures look nice, but don't let that fool you. The property management is awful, in fact they are nonexistant except when they have a problem with you. The gates never work and the pools are not always opened when they say they should be. We have had our cars towed TWICE for insignificant reasons, from our own home!! When the washing machine broke it took three weeks and SEVERAL nagging phone calls just to get then to look at it. I could go on and on but I will just say that while other apartments might not look as nice, I am sure they offer a much more pleasant atmosphere. I would rather have great service in a crappy apartment (which I have had in the past) then the nonsewnse I have had to put up with here. 14 days until my move-out, can't come soon enough!!

                                    I have lived in many apts for more than 10 years, and this is the worst apt I have ever lived in.....they are really really bad apts, they do not respond to complaints, make no apologies about it....please please do not waste your hard earned money this this dump of an apt complex....please listen to the rest of these complaints...I wish I had read them before renting here...the reviews that are good...they are the exceptions....please spend your money on a better apt, but not here...the management is horrible, the apts are built horribly, the model they show when you visit is nothing like the one you get and by then of course you have signed your lease....worst apt ever....Please take the advise of these other reviews and do not rent here, you will be disappointed.<br>

                                      WORST APT AND MANAGEMENT

                                      I really hope this information will help people stay away from brittany commons, I have lived at both summit belmont( I think its now called belmont at cowan's place). Summit has its issues, but its nothing comapred to that at brittany commons, and here is why:<br><br>1) these apts are built horriblely, they have no noise reduction from your neighbors above.<br><br>2) the management is completely incompenenet and not responsive, basically the level of service you will get is the depending on the person you get on the phone, and most of them probably don't want to be there and are NOT AT ALL responsive to complaints.<br><br>Please stay away from this apt complex, I had an issue with my neighbor above, and they did send them a notice, but I know it was essentially useless, I am only glad that my lease will be up soon, and I can get out of here. It does not amaze me that most of the reviews written here are bad ones. not a good apt AT all..please do not rent here.

                                        "well, they say they don't have a dog..." geez.

                                        We lived here for 2 years. In the last 6 months, a family moved in upstairs with a rotty and a German shepherd, and these were NOT nice dogs. On multiple occasions, they growled, barked, and lunged at me; one time, I was trapped in my car while the girl walking them struggled to drag them upstairs. Management's response?: "Well, they say they don't have any dogs." I saw the rotty leaping at children walking from the school bus while the owner repeatedly punched the dog in the head to restrain it--within 50 yards of the rental office and in full view of their windows. It was terrifying. This is indicative of the level of common sense exhibited by the office management.

                                            Thought Brittany Commons is a pretty apt complex and the staff are relatively nice.. I would never recommend this place. Call me picky but I want a staff that is not only nice but doe stheir job! I want someone who is proactive not looks like a dumb dog when asked a questions. I feel there are too many women at the management office making it very easy to say "I thought so an dso was suppose to do it" The walls are way too thin and the neighbors have NO consideration for this. Our back neighbor ha san annoying dog that does nothing but bark ALL THE TIME when she leaves. But when she comes back all she does is listen to her stereo and her Tv super loud. We can't win!<br>The apt was also not very clean when we first moved in. Very dusty and the floors extremely. The heating and/or AC system is horrible too! We've seen a few big spiders and something looking like a cockroach! Needless to say I wouldn't be back here ...

                                              Horrible 13 months at BC

                                              In the 13 months I was there, I was towed once, robbed by the maintenance there and am still fighting to get my security deposit back. I complained about the lack of visitor parking spots even before I was towed. I was towed when visiting a friend after I had moved out. In the "Phase 2" area, there are approximatelym 15-20 Vistor Spots for an area that holds 15 buildings holding between 8-16 units each. Keep in mind that some people who live there have multiple cars and since they restrict you on how many passes you can have for your automobiles (2 for a 2BR 2BA apartment that I had), you are left fighting for one of the few visitor spots that are there. I can understand about towing if there are no spots, however their were pleanty of spots available, just no visitor spots. $100 later I was able to get my car out of impound.<br><br>As for the robbery, I had maintenance come and fix my dishwasher, only to discover that over $50 was taken out of my change jar. I went and complained and the person there told me that I had to call the police. THE POLICE?!?! Come on, they have better things to do then to come write a report for $50. The principle was I felt violated and even presented the property manager with the names of the people who were in my apartment. When the two men were approached by her asking about the robbery, they denied it and it was dropped. Discussing the robbery with the property manage, I felt as if I was talking to a wall and left it at that and in a huff.<br><br>They have two mailboxes outside for people to put outgoing mail in. Countless times I found people's rent checks in there. Thousands of dollars!!!! Being the honest person I am I notified them of the checks being put into the wrong mailbox, and did give them the rent checks from other people. Suggesting that they put a tag on there saying "this is not for rent checks" they moved to "make note" of it, but never executed doing such a small task. I continued to send my mail through those mailboxes, and I continued to find people's rent checks in there. The way the management is setup there makes me beleive that it is prepared for an eventual failure judging on the amount of people who have been moving out over the 13 months I was there.

                                                The Truth about Brittany Commons

                                                I lived in Brittany Commons for 13 months. It was very problematic. First of all it is run by a bunch of inexperienced women.<br>I was towed twice from my own home without warning once b/c the state inspection had expired that day next because my car had been towed from northern VA and was undrivable so while I was waiting for the insurance adjuster to come it was towed.<br>Rules there are an ongoing annoyance. I got a letter on my door stating the children could no longer ride bikes on the sidewalks, they had to use the streets- crazy-. When I moved out the carpet was already almost 6 years old, it has a 7 year lifetime expectancy, so when I moved out I gor a $1100 carpet bill to replace the carpet. My suggestion to you- get your own carpets cleaned by a professional you choose and be there for the walk through, they are petty and though it is one of the only nice apartment communities you will have to put up with constant B.S. <br>
