Don't even bother--reposted
Since placing a post on this site, I get emails when other post are made. In the past two days I've seen several positive post on this site happen within a short time period of each other that means one of two things. Either a lot of residents are posting at the same time day during the middle of a work day or the apartment complex is trying to do some damage control and add more positive words on this site. Below is a post I did a year ago and sounds like things haven't changed. This post should have included my email so folks can contact me directly about my time there. I'm a real person and have no issues discussing with interested individuals. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've lived in this complex for 3 years now. Every year, it gets worse and worse. The management company is much to be desired. Have noisy, rude neighbors, and the trash every where. Not to mention fees they charge you without any notice. You think you are just paying for water, think again. They charge you with a gate fee, common electric fee, pest control fee, you name it they will charge it back to you. So it makes you ask the question "What is my rent paying for". If you like the Lavista area, like I do, I suggest going across the street. I spoke with them this past Sunday and it was great. Apartments are nice and not a lot of crap to deal with. Plus, they moved in 5 people that use to stay at the Heights so that says something. I'm in my 3rd lease and will be moving after it is finished. I would have moved sooner but the Village at Northlake hadn't been completed yet.

Safe yourself the headache
I have first moved in here with my wife which was 3 years ago for a 1 year lease which was under the old management even though you could start seeing the complex going down the hill, but after moving in for the second time it was a total dissaster. Forget about calling the leasing office, they might as well change their working hours to 1 day a week, cause it seems when you call you can always assure no one will answer. Hallways? disgusting!!! Pollen still on railing from a previous season, trash and dog's piss everywhere, elevators always under maintance, and the stench from the overfilled garbage compactor is is beyond real. Car's getting broken in and sitting on cinderblocks is almost an every week thing (check a picture of a red mercedes benz) Don't let the look of the apartments trick you, even if you walk the hallways to see their apt. model, you won't see the real deal, the ones they let their potential residents walk through are the ones near their leasing office which they keep clean. Ever since the new management aka the real lazy people that only collect your monthly rent, this complex went down the hill real fast. They started losing the nice and respectful people and noticing a lot of them moving out so they were approving anyone, the nice folks, the ones that always have their notice of no payment behind their doors, that park how ever they want. SO SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND LOOK RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO A BRAND NEW APARTMENTS BEING BUILD CALLED "VILLAGE AT NORTHLAKE"

Almost had me
I must admit, when I toured the complex at Northlake, I was in love. It was everything I wanted in an apt; nice appliances, luxury feel, great location, and thx to craigslist.com, a low move-in rate. I was quoted $799 for a 1/1 unit with only $199 down and the first month free. The leasing consultant was really nice, and her pleasant demeanor added to my desire to move in. My bf and I turned in all of our paperwork, half of the deposit, and waited. And waited. And waited. Our consultant never got back with us. We had to reach out to them. This should've been a red flag, but we were so in love with the look of the apt that we disregarded the unprofesionalism. I mean, the price was too good to be true...Turns out, our consultant was moved to another complex. Someone else then called and said my bf and I would have to pay $274 in fees and $1598 before we could move in. Really? Needless to say we went back and got a refund on the previous deposit. Upon leaving the complex one last time, a tenant was in the club house arguing with a manager ab the internet being down, the fitness center being closed, and the gate not working. I was so glad I didn't end up signing the lease. This just goes to show: everything that looks good to you ain't good for you.

Very Dissatisfied
The Management of this community is extremely lazy. I have stayed here for 4 months and now I have brought my case of why I want to break my lease to management and they have let me out. Dirty floors, takes days and even weeks to get a service order done. The community's elevator was broken for almost 2 weeks. The trash compactor stayed broken for over 2 months and the smell was terrible. Management never answers the phone, is always on vaction, leaving early, getting in late, or in a meeting. Cars are being worked on in the garage or just may sit there with no wheels on them for months. ----- in the leasing office is a sweet girl but she does not have a clue. ------- the manager is just simply lazy. I could go on and on. The pool is very dirty. You notice that there are always 4-5 uhaul trucks of people moving out every weekend. But let me say a few positives the community is actually nice and USED to be managed well before Connor Group took over. Now they let anyone stay here. I believe it would be a mistake to stay here. Your money could be better spent. They do accept people with challenged credit I was told but I would really look elsewhere. Really.

Don't Do It!!!!
The management is horrible, the apartments are torn up and cheaply repaired and it's as if anyone can come in and out of there as they please. I signed my lease but then quickly got out of it when Northlake didn't hold up their end of the lease. They switched the apartment the day before move in and the new one they gave us looked as if 15 dogs lived there and roamed around as they pleased. Don't be fooled!! It's not worth your time and definitely not worth your money!

Don't be fooled by the photos on their website. If you live here, you know the halls are dirty, the elevator smells like puke, the staff is hardly ever around, and the trash is overflowing out of the dumpster. Also, they have been putting up a "Pool Closed" sign during the day because it seems as if maintenance cannot get out there to clean up the pool in the morning. The saddest thing of all is that this place could really be nice, because it once was when I first moved in. I'm glad my lease is up soon and I have added a photo for your enjoyment. This is what the Heights really looks like when you make it through the gate.

Looks are deceiving
When I first looked at Northlake I thought it was really nice, but after moving in, I realize what a mistake it is. I was told at the time that there was only one apartment available, and it wasn't the one I was originally shown, one with a garden view (that one mysteriously became unavailable overnight). The construction noise across the street is hoorrible, the police are there a couple of times a week looking for someone, they even had the place surrounded one night at midnight because of escaped convicts loose inside the property. Dogs are everywhere, 4 live next door to me, constantly barking and the owners let them poop all over the grass and nobody cleans up after their pet. I had to sweep the outside hallway myself after several requests for maintenance to clean were ignored. The leasing agent is rude, there's not enough parking, I get home at 2:00 a.m., and there is rarely a spot within reasonable distance from my apt. I regret moving here, anybody know how to break the lease?

This place is not worth the money or your time. Trust me I lived here over 1yr. and did not began to hate it until the new management Connor Group came and took over, about 6mths into my lease. Since then this place is not somewhere I would recommend to my worst enemy. Yolonda the property manager is so unprofessional, first of all she keep her little yapping dog Denim in the office with her, so it barks at every incoming person. Then, it seems to me that she cares more about eating all the damn time, then really handling business. So if I were you i would find a better community to take interest in.

moving soon....
Since moving in Summer 2008, crime here has steadily increased. 2 weeks ago, there was a helicopter with a spotlight looking for a suspect in a string of auto thefts in the area. Several residents over the last few months, 4 that i know of, have had their doors kicked in and items stolen from their apartment at gunpoint while a few were still in their apartment. The property management says that they notified residents during their "resident meeting;" however we did not attend the meeting and I guess that most of the complex did not attend the meeting as well. I found out as a result of running into one of the residents that was victimized as she was moving out. She told me that the complex was not going to inform anyone in writing because she felt that it would "create a bad image for the property." The community is a nice complex and is in a great location, right next to 285; however, paint is chipping off of the windowsills, blinds are falling off of their mounts, and it seems as though the complex was build fairly cheaply! The on site property management staff are not very helpful. They do not seem to have any answers for anything other than, pay us and renew your lease 3 months in advance! The property manager continuously brings her DOG with her to work and has it running around the office barking at everything that moves. Remotes are $50 to open the gate for a 2 BR unit, only 1 remote is included for a 2 BR unit, you have to turn the remote in when you move out, and you don't get your money back!!! how much sense does that make?!!!! We are going to be moving out ASAP!!!! Crime is going up, staff customer service is going down, but if you can put up with that, this is your place to live!!! GOOD LUCK!

Definite NO
I have been a resident here since August 2007. Before the Connor Group took over the property I would have recommended this place to anyone who might have been interested. I had no issues with the property, residents or management. If I did have any concerns the previous management group was quick to assist me. Since the Connor Group has taken over, as many have said, things have gone down hill. I would NOT recommend this property to anyone. They would be wasting there money. My first interaction with the management was not a pleasant one. I wanted to discuss a discrepancy with my account but would never get an answer any time I called. When I left voice messages, no one returned my calls. After persistent calling, I finally got through (2 weeks later) and somewhat resolved the issue. When they told me a credit was added to my account, I debited it from my next month's rent. They then told me I was short on rent neglecting the fact that they supposedly gave me a credit. After looking into it, they realized I was right. (On a side note- I feel like they are never in the office. They seem to always be on some sort of breaking returning at such and such time). I am now paying over $50/month in water, sewage and trash fees!! Almost double what I was paying before Connor took over. My actual water & sewage fees are approx. $15- where are the other fees coming in? Crime got worse when they took over. As stated before, they never notified us (the previous management company always made us aware of criminal activity). I no longer felt safe in my own home. Now that the weather is warm I am waiting to use the pool, but there is a lock on the front gate and the pool doesn't look clean so it doesnt seem as if that amenity is accessible. I've gotten locked out of the "24 hour" gym facilities and no one responded when I left a message on the emergency line (my belongings were still int he gym). The list goes on and on.... If you are wise, you'd save your money and look elsewhere. When I moved here the ratings were above 50% and now they are in the 30's- that speaks for itself. I am definitely not renewing and may even break my lease.

Don't Waste Your Dang On Time!!
What can I say other than what's posted...hmmm, let's see...ALL the hallways are pissy with animal feces, their investing more money into the Af Am Abraham Lincoln looking guy standing outside with a FREE RENT sign with a hot --- tux on, IN 90 degree weather, then their putting into the property...it's just sad. Thank GOODNESS I have another 4 months! Interstingly, a new APT complex is being built around the corner so they'll have competiton and lose money! PLEASE GO CHECK THEM OUT! BUT, if you like to live in piss, pollen, break-ins, non caring, rip offs, utility jacking, staff never available, management neglecting, attitude having... Hell yeah I'm angry!! >:| Worthing was great..where the hell are they? Oh I know...having Margarita's on their other properties! &%$#@!#$^&*(

http://www.city-data.com/forum/atlanta/392106-getting-ripped-off-2.html Surprise, surprise! The utility company for this complex is owned by The Connor Group. Please visit this website before you sign the lease. If you sign, be prepared for all the hidden, high and unfair costs charged to the tenant. Good luck!

About 2 Leave....
Okay --- So, i moved from Cleveland, Oh straight to this apartment and this place just seemed to be EVERYTHING i could ever want in an apartment----LOL yeah the honeymoon phase didnt last long --- my windown in my car got busted out after 3 months --- the hallways went to complete ish and on top of the there were like a million 18-19 yr old kids from the culinary school taking over and abusing the pool, media room and fitness center -- mgmt had the highest turn over i have ever seen in a place and they never fixed anything properly. So, i was going to move once the lease was up but then they decided to kick all the kids out said they would give me the largest one br with a pool view for only $15 more --- things started looking up and cleaning up. I stayed another yr -- it didnt take me long to realize it was a huge mistake --- i moved in next to the ----- from hell --- called the cops on me 3 X and i am so so so far from a partier or noise maker -- its just me and my boyfriend -- her and many other people in my hall would leave their trash out reaking in the hall way on non-trash pick up days --- i saw a young child running with a shopping cart in the hall --- my shower has been "fixed" 3X and still not working right -- it sprays everywhere and according to mgmt this is the same issue in many apt.'s but okay whatever --- the complex got bought out by the Connor Group so i was really excited there would be a change --- WRONG - it got worse!!! --- dog piss covers my hallways -- they stopped maintaing the pool (the view i pay for) as soon as it started getting slightly chilly sand wrapped chains around the front gat -- which i use all the time to get in from the front -- they said no one needed access to it at this time---there is a duck living in the pool for about 3-4 months and what whole area looks SICK --- they stopped the breakfast in the morn switching it to a latte machine ---- they upped the cleaning services and gave my package away or lost it when i tracked it directly to the complex!! I called to see what my $1000.00 apartment was going for now and yeah its $840 and their trying to negotiate a $940 rate with me to renew! its a joke!! it was so beautiful when i moved in -- clean and classy - I loved it ----- its gross and as soon as Worthing Companies found out it was not a profitable complex they sold it -- and the people downstairs just dont care! I hate it here and everytime i pull in -- i pay a grand for a tiny --- apartment to live in the ------!!! okay thats the other thing they say the suare footage is a good 300 sq ft then it actually is -- my BF is an appraiser and he measure my "940 sq ft apartment" at 620 sq ft -- i guess they are including my cabinet and closet space too lol who knows --- this place is a dump and at point of time i knew it was way to small for what i was paying but the great amenities made up for it --- they took it all away and stopped maintaining the grounds ---- its not a nice place to live at all anymore ---- the one good thing i will say is the landscaping is nice and from the road it looks beautiful - a couple feet inside you will see ---- oh yeah and never have i been in the gym where at least 1-2 cardio machines are broke and at least 2-3 sets of weights are missing ---- do not waste your money -- new ones are going up next door --- check them out or several in the atlanta area for less --- PICS online are very deceiving the kitchens are dollhouse size!

Police Activity right now outside the building
Police are outside the building right now checking every car leaving the complex. No one has been in the halls to inform the tenants of what is going on. Tenants returning to the building have been asked to wait across the street in the parking lot. There is a helicopter flying around the complex right now. This place is more dangerous than the south bronx. The new management can care less about what goes on here. I have never seen a management team that tries so hard just to fail. They all seem clueless and do not address any of the tenant complaints. They refuse to order new lights for my apartment since they have been here. The club house is a joke, they close @ 7pm and none of the two remaining TV's work, a picture frame now replaces the stolen one in front of the computers. Can't wait till my lease is up. This place sux!!!!!! I tell all prospective tenants not to do it, you have been warned.

I loved this place!!!
OK....I've read all the reviews..... I must have lived at a different place (I just bought a house and moved out...... if I hadn't been able to buy the house I would have stayed). I lived there 2 years..... always felt safe, often left my keys in the door..... had a convertible for part of the time and no one bothered it.... no problems with management.... usually very quiet.... work orders attended to and fixed right 1st time at 80%.... had a couple that needed fixing twice. Really.... this place was great... management didn't matter.

DO NOT MOVE TO THE NORTHLAKE APTS
Aside from review previously mentioned...the break-ins..management neglect.. all true. They charge you for pest control and LIGHTS IN THE COMMON AREAS!! Who rents an apartment and pays for the lights in the hallways!!! Not too mention, the office does not tell you that you will be hit with these ridiculous charges. This has by far been the most outrageous and insane situation I have been in. I can not wait until my lease is up. Don't let the good looks from the street fool you, it will be total nightmare for anyone who decides to move to this once nice complex.

The Connor Group Worst Management Company Ever
Since The Connor Group has taken over, this property has gone down hill. They have more excuses and never accepts responsiblty. They never answer phone calls nor return phone calls. We do not have the amenities we used to have. Tenants should be allowed to break their lease because we never signed a lease with The Connor Group and never was notifed of a take over. Im paying more for less, and that's a breach of contract. The Connor Group needs to be fired and needs customer service 101 classes and managements skills PLEASE DO RENT FROM PLEASE AT THIS PLACE. YOU WILL REGRET IT EVERYDAY. Go to BBB, they only have 186 complaints. They are in business to do bad business.

Do Not Move to Northlake Apartments
I agree with the previous posters. The apartment has become what the previous poster had termed "The ------". I did check the Dekalb wedsite the poster had spoke of an it did indeed have a lot of crime for the past couple weeks. All most all of the crime had fallen during the time when the gate has been broken. We too have talked with the office about the gate issue. They do not care. We have also had the same problem with the office staff. They have blamed ever issue we have brough tto them on the other residents. They actually told me that these things were all going on with the previous managment but that they had hired people to take care of them. So it mad eme think...well why are you not doing that since we do pay quite a bit for rent. I have called corporate and no one has responded. The gates have been wide open for 3 weeks now and the crime has been going on for that amount of time. I also agree with the poster who said we are paying for admenities we cannot use. I have had that problem since this company took over. I have heard many residents upset with this new company. It is mainly the resident who have been here for a while. The new ones do not know how it was run so nicely before. Plus why would they care as the person earlier said they are all getting free rent fromt he lobster and man dressed in a tux swinging a sign around out front. I cannot believe all these breakins have happened while the manamgent has been here during the day. DIdn't they brag about the video cameras they have? Well try using them to see why there has been so much crime. Also thinking that you can just put up cation tape over a broken gate does not keep anyone out...I cannot believe it has been broken 3 weeks and they do not get anyone out here to fix it they just take cation tape and wrap it around the open gates.. One last thing I agree with the poster who said that we have not been inform of the crime. If I didn't read it here and check the Dekalb website the earlier poster had listed I would have still thought it was just residents exagerating. But it isn't it is there in black and white. The old company use to inform us. When I checked the list 2 were in my tiny little building. You would think since ther eis a pit bull left outside on the porch ALL the time our building would not be hit. ( Yes they must let pitbulls in and not care...this one is out on the porch ALL the time...like that is his dog house)

Not worth the price
I lived at the heights for 6 months. I was looking for a complex with young professionals (25-35). Not a family or college student complex. One complaint I had was that there were too many college students living there. I think most of them were from the culinary school near by. I was told before I moved in by the previous management company(Worthing Company)that they were not renewing the contract with the college so the students would be leaving by the end of the month. That did not happen. It seemed like even more moved in and they were ------, loud and dirty! One of them moved into the apartment next to mine right before I left and always had loud music and visitors who were loud and gehtto screaming outside in the hallways early into the morning hours during the week. Also there were too many kids living in the complex which I did not understand because the complex is not really kid friendly. There were some other smaller issues but for the price, you can definetly get something much classier and upscale in a complex and neighbors.

DO NOT MOVE HERE
We lived here before Connor Group took over (Dec 19)and there was crime. But it wasn't as bad as it is now. The last managment took care of the property. ( The Worhting Group...they own all the Heights complexes...this place just kept their signs up...but it is NO LONGER A HEIGHTS at Northlake) If there was a broken gate the worthing group would have it fixed within a day. Theback gate broke over 2 weeks ago. Noone in the office feels it should be fixed. Then the front gate was also left open the WHOLE night on Friday. There have been apartments that have had the doors kicked in and then their belonging stolen in the last 2 weeks. ****UPDATE*** a neighbor had told me about the Dekalb County Police's website....go to crimewatch on the page and put in the leasing office's address buffer the address by .2 miles and you can see all the crime in the last 2 weeks***** The apartment community has not even informed the residents of this. Atleast the Worthing Group had informed us when there was abreak in and would tell us ways they were helping to make it a safer community and ways we could help. I came home last night to a bunch of angry woman (neighbors) all talking abou tthis in the hall. You can actually go and see where the doors had been broken in( so it isn't just gossip) We pay a very lot in rent for a gated community with admenities. We have not been able to use these admenities in forever. Yes the cybercafe has been broken into 2 times since Dec but that is no reason to lock the residents out for almost a month. Some of us use the free wireless and have our own computers...but we were not allowed into the clubhouse for almost a month..no use of the pooltable etc.. We have not been able to use our grill in the pool area ( the only gas grill) since January. The gym equipment is breaking all the time.. The halls are sooooo very gross. Dog piss here and there and garbage on the floor. Ihave done my laundry in their facilities and had to remove the trash myself the last 3 weeks because it was overfilled and making the whole laundry room smell terrible. I wanted my clothes to come out smelling clean not like garbage. Do not try to talk with the office about any of it. They just blame it on the residents. Glad they get to go hme at the end of the day to their nice safe taken care of places when we come home form work to busted down doors and thieves...

Robbed
Last night 3/16/09, my apartment was broken into. I am still devastated over this whole ordeal. Approximately 8 other apartments were vandalized too. All of my valuables were stolen except for my TV/VCR. They tried to take it because it was unplugged but I guess it was too heavy to take out. However, my laptop, jewelry, etc were taken. There has been numerous car breakins from the period of Oct-Dec 2008. I wouldn't advise anyone to live here. I will not renew my lease.

Don't Be Fooled!
As the title says if you want peace of living DO NOT come here! I've been here since 08 and I regret it from the second day I moved in I had noisy neighbors with noisy disrespectful kids above me, and I called the courtesy officer so much they stopped responding. Not to mention the ------- living above me had two families living there! They had the elevators smelling like spices! My husband had his car broken into with nothing of value to be stolen. A new management team has taken over and it's without a doubt hailing as the worst apartments ever they're even giving free rent specials, they have people in the front dancing like fools like this is a "hood" apartment. The gates are always broken either they won't close or they stay open this is ridiculous especially when you are paying almost $1200 for rent. Trust me this is where you don't want to be if you are looking for upscale the surely isn't it. With everybody saying the same thing the stories can't be lies. Spare yourself the headache. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

The ----- from hell!!
I moved into the heights but I hated dealing with this one particular leasing agent..Linnet Gunter. She was so rude and scary looking. She kept talking on her personal cell phone during our initial meeting. She was not professional at all, very ------!!! I love my apartment but that leasing agent needs to go. I had to ask for another agent because of Ms. Linnet Gunter. The best thing the company can do is get rid of her.

Staff Is HORRIBLE & Fees are Ridiculous
I have been living here for about a year and a half and i hate it!!! I couldnt be more unsatisfied. Against my better judgement i went ahead and signed another lease. BIG MISTAKE --- it's just right now i'm only 10 min. away from work and its hard to give up that convenience. Right after i moved in it all went to hell a million disrespectiful kids were aloud to live there as assisted living for there school and you would swear they had no home training. My car window was busted out twice and lets see prob on average 5 every weekend were. Do you think they would get up to scale and add camaras to every level of the parking deck -- off course not only one at the entrance which only takes still pictures. It made using the pool or fitness center difficult because there was tons of --- taking their clothes off sitting on fitness equipment just to watch the tv's-- i was so pissed on a daily basis. The staff was amazing when i very first moved in -- the turn over is amazing and where they find these people i have no idea! After they terminated the contract with school and acted like they cared about the complex it was looking up so i signed another lease. like i said before BIG MISTAKE. Since signing my new lease 3 months ago i had an ant problem covering my wall one morning, my dishwasher and garbage disposal were broke when i moved in --- dont you think they would check these things before letting a new tenant move in -- well whatever but the garbage disposal went even worse and was pushing water out into the sink flooding over ----- 4 days and 5 request before anyone even got up here to fix it and thats only cause i went off on their machine --- when signing my lease the girl ----ed it up and our pro rated ended up being two hundred more then what we agreed to---not my problem im not paying so they after calling three more times and stopping into the office twice i was finally able to get this resolved and paid the intial agreed amount but they added it to my concessions adendum!!!! are you serious so if i decide to leave i have to pay the 60 days worth of rent the difference in what "market rent" is for the apartment for all 12 months plus the ---- up with their math!! are you serious?!?! They cant charge the market rent because one our market sucks and two they dont maintain the complex well enough to keep min. vacants. My shower head has now been broke for two months i cant take a bath without it shooting and spraying down on my face and all over my floor --- my dishwasher wheels are broke and i cant pull it in and out without lifting first, my laundry room light has been out for a month ---- the staff is RUDE as hall ---- inexperienced, disrespectful and come to find out this is typical for GA not uncommon but i cant deal with it..... Ohhh and the late fee is $100.00???? late fees are pesky little penalties not several hundred every time you turn around --- my boyfriends company merged and he went without payroll for 6 weeks!!! i called and spoke with the lovely staff and agreed to pay the $100.00 late fee and make a $500.00 payment now and then pay the difference by october now all of a sudden they have tact on $400.00 additional dollars and filed a dispossessary with the court ---- are you serious?!?! we agreed and i made a payment and it has even been 3 weeks since my last payment was made we were still in the same month ---- they cant answer when i ask where are the fees from and what are they for --- nor did she follow proper procedure to even win an eviction process because i never received a letter in the last three weeks demanding payment -- thats the law so just because i simply have to im going to go cut them a check for $880 and $1,040.00 i mean its not like were dead beats it was a uncontrollable thing we didnt lose a job payment was just delayed they act as if she was all fine and dandy with working with us for the month and they turned around and started charging us like crazy...... Also my last apartment was supposed to 830 square feet when i had my boyfriend measure it yeah 520 sq ft this one is now listed as 960 sq ft and yeah its maybe about 650.... i mean square footage is livable living space!! okay so there not the brightest -- the breakfast that we pay for is a joke the fitness center equipment is always broke --- we pay wayyyy too much money to live in the ------ the other day i saw a kid running down the hall with a grocery cart i mean come on!!!! Cant wait to live!!!!! :)
