Do NOT Rent Here
I have read a few of the other reviews and I have to agree with the negative comments. I have lived in 6 diferent apartment communties in the past 8 years (not in the Raleigh area) and this is the most unresponsive and uncaring management team that I have encountered. My garage door opener has not worked in over a month. I was told that it could take two weeks to get the sensor replaced. It has been two weeks and on Friday the sensor were replaced but now the door works even less. Before they replaced the sensors I could at least use the remote to open the door just not close it. Now I can not even use the remote to open the door. I called the office Friday evening and left a message- no reponse. I have called twice Saturday during business hours but heaven forbid they answer the phone. I left two more messages- still no response.

I guess they figure they have my money and a committment to a lease.

Don´t even think about it!!!
The management at this apartment is terrible. The apartments are overpriced and when something breaks it takes forever to get it fixed. Plus, the water heaters are way too small. I know it´s minor, but you can´t even fill up that nice big garden tub with hot water! The water will run cold way before it´s even close to being full. We had them turn up the temperature on the water heater and that didn´t work, by the way.

Plain and simple, don´t even think about this place!

Don´t Waste Your Time or Money
10/10/2002

You´ll see the other bad reviews without the e-mails. I´m not to afraid to leave mine. These apartments are terrible. The day we signed the lease, we had to do a walk through of the Apt and write down things that were wrong. From this, the management claimed that they would put in a work order. We never had the guys come look at any of the problems we listed. Our Thermostat has been messed up since we moved in, and we put a work order in on that too. Never came. Now, only 8 months into an 18 month lease, we have a major leak around our dining room window. We´ll put a work order in on that too, but we´ll be suprised if they come. We have had to change our own A/C air filter and battery in the smoke alarm. We had ants in the apt everywhere and finally after multiple complaints from multiple residents, they finally called the exterminators, but all they did was spray outside. They didn´t check any apts and told us if we wanted them to come to the apt, we could request it, but it might take a week or two to get here. The staff is not helpful and all they seem to care only about the money. When you do go to the office, you seem to bother them more than anything else. I also agree with all the bad reports on this list. The only good thing is that W/D is included. My suggestion is to steer clear of this Complex. I know we will as soon as our Lease is up. If we had the money, we would get out now.

--Amendment to the Previous Review (10/25/02-

After reporting the water leak to the apartment staff, they did come and look at it (after a week and a half) and figured out that they needed to call the contractors back into to fix the roof. They then said they could come in and fix the wall. Well since then, the contractor came (over a week ago) looked at it. They basically said the same thing. One thing the did say is that there were 10-12 other buildings in the complex (close to half of the bldgs) had water leaking into the apts, but mostly around the fireplace. They said that they would have to wait till the weather broke to get on the roof and fix the problem with the roof. Once that was fixed, the would work on the wall. Well, the weather has broke and we haven´t seen any sign of the contractors working on any of the bldgs in the complex. I´ll be suprised to see if the place is fixed before we move out in Aug 2003. I´ll update the review as stuff happens

--Update To the Above--
(12/9/02)
Well, to update the leak in the roof, It did get fixed, but it took about a month to do it. You wouldn´t really know that it leaked from a distance, but up close there are still a few spots left. On a new note. We just had a huge ice storm come through NC, knocking out power to 100s of Thousands. Luckly This apt along with a small area around us never lost power. Unlike the road crews, The Apt staff never put anything down on the sidewalks or the parking lots. This led to someone in my building slipping and breaking her leg on the slippery parking lot, and this was a couple of days after the storm hit.

WARNING - Do Not make the Same Mistake!!!
This is the most unprofessional operation I have ever encountered. The staff is rude and in effective and the units are shoddy and thoroughly over-priced. If you have a problem..I think maintenance would gladly fix it...if the staff ever bothers to report the issue. The list of problems I have encountered goes on and on and on, and no one does a thing to try to make it right. Instead, I have been ignored or treated rudely when bringing significant issues to the management´s attention. I wish I had chosen ANYWHERE other than Preston´s Reserve. Even though it will cost me a ton, I would rather break my lease and move out than stay where a staff like this is in charge. I am reporting this place to Altman Management, I am sure the executives there would be outraged to see the way their property is being run. This place is not at all what it appears. What a terrible waste of time and money....do not make the same mistake.

THIS PLACE SUCKS!
Don´t be fooled by the fancy clubhouse and beautiful models that the Preston´s Reserve Management shows you. The apartments are dirty and the management only responds when they are trying to get you to sign a lease. Once you´re a resident, they will never return your calls and you will be treated poorly by the office staff.

Take this advise and rent elsewhere. This place is a complete dive.
Notice this...
I am looking for an apartment and came over the preston resevers, I thought it was a wonderful complex and wanted to move there badly, as you may have seen the bad reveiws on this page. Well take some time to notice that none of those comments have and email adress, they just say anonymous! I have checked up on other apartment complexes in cary on this site, and they all have email adresses, except for this one, so if you are looing for a nice apartment atleast check out the Preston Resevres!

This place is pitiful. The worst in every way.
This has to be the worst managed and maintaned complex I´ve ever lived in, known about, or been to. Management changes monthly and seems to get progressively worse. It´s at rock bottom now with the current staff. They don´t return calls, they are only helpful or nice when they want you to renew your lease. There have been many maintenance issues I´ve called about and never heard back from them on. There are gaps under my doors that invite in the largest insects.

The move-in was a total nightmare as well. Like a previous writer, I was transferred in from out of state. I had already commited to the lease otherwise, I would have moved somewhere else after the first encounter with management as a new resident.

The unit itself is noisy. I can hear everything my neighbors do (if you know what I mean). I also realize that I have no privacy.

Several people that live here have dogs and have no problem letting them do their business without cleaning up after them. Especially at night, or behind the buildings.

The units themselves are new and look good from the outside. The architect did a good job but the builder didn´t. There have been countless problems with my unit and nearly every neighbor I have has had problems as well.

The air filters are never changed, the areas you can´t see from the road have never been seeded for grass ( another broken move-in promise), parking is terrible, many of the units have mice, the pool is open for a short period of time each year, the jacuzzi never seems to work..........

There is one trash bin for the entire complex and it fills up quickly. When i´t´s emptied, the doors are left open and there is visible garbage exposed for long peiods of time. The other problem with the garbage is that I can´t walk my trash to the garbage, it´s too far. I have to drive it every time.

I do have to mention the one positive thing about this place. There is one maintenance guy that seems to care about the people living here. Not mentioning names, I´ll just say he´s the "big guy". I recently heard he may be leaving, and if that´s true, it´s too bad. As residents, we now have to deal with the worst management staff I have ever seen.

I will also suggest that after talking with many other residents, any positive things that might be posted on this board were probably posted by the property management or ownership.

The Truth
Here´s the good: Preston Reserve is a beautiful complex, including the buildings, the landscapings and the pool. The apartments are big and open with plenty of light, new appliances and pretty clean.

Here´s the bad: The parking is a big problem. They have lots of garages and expect everyone to use them for cars, but most are used for storage (including my own). The jacuzzi has been broken for all but about 2 of my 24 months (stop with the excuses and FIX IT). Also, I think there were some mistakes during construction that cause noise to carry from apartment to apartment. We had to have the ceiling above one bedroom opened and fixed because the boards were not nailed sufficiently cause major squeaking.

In summary, if you don´t care about the jacuzzi and you have a garage for parking its a fairly nice place. But look at the total package before you get sold on the great floor plans.

It´s a great place to live! Not sure the others are talking about.
I do not think I´m in the minority here but Preston´s Reserve is a wonderful place to live. My roommate and myself have felt very safe and comfortable since we moved in. The office staff have been very nice and helpful. The complex has functions for the tenants and are always available to help you out. And maintance was here in one day. The appliances are new, every apt has a washer and dryer and lots of space. The apartment was exactly what I was shown. Please take a look for yourself. Don´t let a few bad apples spoil your Preston´s Reserve experience. I´ll probably renew my lease for another year.

DO NOT MOVE INTO THIS PLACE
I transferred to NC like many people were.
Like the other review my floorplan was not the one that I was shown. I explained to the office that my apartment is not the model apartment that I was shown. They said that they had an open apartment but that there´ll be a $300 and something dollar transfer fee. I did not transfer out of my apartment. Maintenance and Lawn crew are HORRIBLE. When I moved in I didn´t have the bottom shelves to my bathroom and kitchen sink, it took them almost 5 mos to put it in, I called about twice every month to remind them that I still don´t have shelves under my sinks. The landscaping crew always tend to blow leaves and debris onto my apartment patio. There is very limited parking. You are not allowed to park on the curb for good reasons(streets are small) BUT the complex has not done anything to solve parking issues. The only available parking spaces are near the woods which wouldn´t be so bad if I didn´t live a 1/4 mile away AND the complex had better lighting. I have finally moved out. Here are some good things, the complex is new, I was the 1st one in my apartment. The city is Cary which equals Pleasantville most of the stores and building in the area is new and for the most part the landscape is nice(except of the complex, grass is brown right now while the business complex next to it still has green grass). There are many city ordinances that apt complexes and home owners must follow(Bad thing). I didn´t have any major problems with the condition and appliances within the apartment itself because everything was relatively new. PLEASE keep in mind that they will attract with those good things that I listed. The BAD out weights the good many times over esp since Cary/Raleigh/RTP looks very similar. And there are many new apt complexes being built or has recently been built

Looks Can Be Deceiving!!!
Our move-in was horrible- wet carpets, not our original floorplan and unproffesional people. Driving from a different state, we got lost so called to say we might be ten minutes late; we were there five minutes from the closing time and the leasing agent was leaving the parking lot. Our carpets were soaking wet and we had to wait almost two hours to move our furniture in after calling the maintenece office who never did come out to help us; we had to call them back again.
Both of our toilets stop up every week, water comes into out foyer when they power wash the sidewalk, the closet door had fallen off the hinges twice, and there are hige air conditioning units outside a window so we cannot open the window or sit on the deck b/c they are so loud. Speaking of being loud, we had five people in our driveway/garage talking late one night and a neighbor asked us to have some respect so we went inside and then got a "noise warning" the next business day. Three of the four people were other neighbors who did not get such warnings.
The pool had glass in it this summer, the hottub is not hot but lukewarm and the car wash area has not been open since we moved here.
For some odd reason, we referred someone from CA to live here and were supposed to get a monetary bonus. They moved here and even asked about it for us again and the leasing consultant says they did not give our name as references.
Yeah, we are really looking forward to moving out of this place!
