Overall living here has been a positive experience.
I have been living here for just under one year. We will not be renewing our lease though due to the increase in rent (and the fact I am just done with apt living). The buildings are in good shape. They aren't new but everything was very clean upon moving in. The grounds are very well kept and snow in the winter time is always removed promptly. There is ample, ample parking space, more than I have ever seen for a complex. And I like that there is no assigned parking. All my experience with the maintenance guys has been very positive. For an emergency someone has always responded within the hour and for a non emergency, within the week. I have never seen a mouse or any other pest in my apt ever. But I also keep my kitchen very clean. The kitchen is not high end, but it's sufficient. My only real complaint about the kitchen is the dishwaher. I don't use it and it's kind of useless. You can only turn it on there is no way to pick a water temperature or a cycle. There is a small laundry room in each building with one washer and two dryers. I never have a problem doing laundry once in a while I have to wait a little while if it's being used. Not a big deal, never gets crazy backed up. The staff in the office has always been polite and helpful. When I first moved in there was a party guy who lived below. He was throwing parties 2-4 times a week with his friends over and very loud music. He was reported to the office and we were made aware of their policy of four noise complaints and you are evicted. After 4 months he was no longer living beneath us. I don't know if they evicted him or if he moved voluntarily. But they did take our complaints very seriously. Also there is no smoking outside or on your balcony or in any of the common areas. And as a non smoker I am grateful for this rule, except when I have a guest over to my apt, cause I sure as heck aren't going to let them smoke inside my apt. And it is true they don't want the kids playing outside in the grass or in the hallways. I have a child so I do see from both sides. It's kinda of annoying cause if you have children there really isn't anywhere for them to play but on the other hand all the grass is right outside lots of different apt's windows. The only other negative thing I can say about Heritage Village is the heating/AC policies. They do turn the AC off when winter comes and they don't turn it back on until it has been 75 degrees or higher for three consecutive days. So if you have a random 85 degree humid day in May you kinda of just have to suffer through it. And I believe it's the same with the heat, they wait until there are have been a certain number of days/nights at a low outdoor temperature. But the apts are not drafty and in the winter, especially if you live on the second or third floor stay pretty warm on their own. If it's 35 degrees or warmer outside we didn't even need the heat on. Overall I have liked living here the past year and heat is included in the rent so that is a nice bonus. Clean and safe. Very quiet for a complex. The pool is nice for the kids. (And there is no trick or treating allowed, btw.) For the money this place is great. I have always treated all the employees here with respect and have always been respected back. While I don't regret moving here, we won't be renewing our lease.

Worst Apartment I Have Ever Lived In
My first issue with this complex in that it is ridiculously overpriced. I wouldn't mind paying this much if it were actually worth it. The laundry room is absurd. There is one old washer and two terrible dryers for the ten apartments in my building. Last summer our air conditioning broke and they took a week to fix it and it was so hot that I was worried about the well-being of my baby and toddler. The staff couldn't have cared less. We have also heard animals in the walls and one day I came home to find a mouse in my daughter's crib. I also find the office staff to be rude and inconsiderate. Another issue I have is that the rules and guidelines are completely ridiculous. What kind of place doesn't allow children to play on the grass? According to them, you have to walk to a nearby school if your children want to play outside. I cannot say enough bad things about this place. Another time, the maintenance staff came to my apartment three Sunday's in a row to fix a problem with the apartment below me supposedly. As a young mother home alone with my two children, I always ask for identification but none of them could provide me with any, and were very rude in telling me so. Considering the fact that I pay what I do for this apartment I would expect much better living conditions and a more reliable and friendly office staff. I cannot wait to move out of this horrible place.

Mice & poor maintenance
I would not recommend leaving in this place. D'nt be surprise that you will have to move in with Mice, not one or two, 10's or more. No kidding, we in fact where able to catch 18 of them and keep reporting to them and they come in and keep traps for you. Poor maintenance guys, never target the source from which they are coming into the house. Old Building so I belive that what we can expect. Locality is fine and staffs are friendly

A beautiful place to call home
I am shocked at some of the reviews. I have lived here for almost 15 years. There are a lot of rules and yes some people do not want to follow them but the rules are what makes it a nice place to live. Maintenance has alway been responsive and willing to keep working at something until it was solved. Snow removal is outstanding. The rental office is always helpful and fair. I would have to say I have been in the office when some neighbor wasn't getting want they wanted or didn't want to follow the rules and I don't know how they(office staff) take being treated like some people think they have a right to treat others. My apartment is spacious, laundry very convenient and parking ok. The heat and hot water included is the best. I think some of these people who were unhappy are just that unhappy!

I'm just being honest
Please stay away! This place is not worth the anxiety or big bucks. Animals in walls and ceiling. Bugs. Bad parking situation. Mean staff. "Laundry room" inadequate. Very disappointed but we are stuck here aarrgghh!

Noisy Bad Place to Rent Do not suffer yourself
I have moved here to live on the grould floor for only 3 weeks, I immediately regret to rent here, not only the rent is $935. But there is all kinds of problems, not only that the dresser door cannot be fully closed, the miror is all rusted. the piece in the refrigirator is broken. Water plumping out from the sink in the kitchen. and it took them 3 weeks to come and fix the problems. The staff at the office is always unreliable. when the ppl from the above floor keep pounding on my ceiling to create excessive noise, they also like to throw stuff and not gonna stop even after 11 30 p.m. I went to the office twice to complain about the consistant noise. they even told me I should go talk to the neighbour myself. They had nobody call me back whether they contacted the people unstairs or not. Not only that , people tend to do laundry after the open hours. Other people would tend to turn up their TV really loud with the windows and / or door open. Listen to my true advice, I already am trying to get out of the lease , I cannot stand living here for a full year. Do not rent Heritage Village, its the nightmare u do want to avoid.

TOTAL RIP OFF!!
I subletted a basement apartment here because I couldn't find a permanent place to live before my new job in Albany started. First, let me tell you that this place is the biggest rip off I have ever come across. I pay $835 for a 1 bedroom in the basement. The complex was built before cable tv was popular, so there are wires everywhere running from room to room. They didn't even bother to install wall jacks - they just stapled them to the baseboards. Second, the laundry facilities are atrocious. there is only one washer and two dryers for about 8 apartments. It is a total pain and they barely work. Third, the office staff is rude and unhelpful. When I went in to sign my lease, I was scolded for not paying the first month's rent by the the first of the month. This would be a valid argument, except for the fact that I was not approved to occupy the unit until 1 week into the month. The woman still gave me a hard time and said next time I would be charged a penalty. Also, I moved in mid-month and they would not prorate my rent. Which is ridiculous! Living in Syracuse my whole life, I knew of numerous apartment complexes that would prorate if you moved in middle of the month. They made me pay full price. And my biggest gripe of all is that it is out in the middle of nowhere if you ask me and not convenient to the city. It's a great area to raise a family, however it is outrageously overpriced and located just off one of the busiest roads in the morning. The commute to the highway is obnoxious. People drive 10 miles below the posted speed limits in the left lane and they just sit there. Also, the Guilderland cops are bored out of their mind so they just cruise around pulling people over for the slightest offenses If you are a young 20 something like myself, DO NOT RENT HERE! Do not give them the satisfaction of taking your money. I will live on the street before I continue my lease here.

Good management, Safe, Great location
All the apartments in Albany were expensive as we were moving from WV. But heritage village worked out well for us as they were offering free heat and hot water during that time(especially with the winter coming up it was great). The management here is great! They are quick at fixing problems, if any. The best part we liked during our stay was the location. It was close to shopping, restaurants and also to SUNY. We enjoyed our stay here.

From a prospective tenant's view
I will be moving to Albany next month. So, this past week I and my wife went on a house hunting trip and the following review is based solely on our tour experience. First of all, let me clarify that we went to look at only Heritage 222 apartments, which are considered more upscale than the other Heritage apartments. After arriving there we were informed that no 2BR was available so we decided to look at the 1BR instead. Overall, the building and apartment was well-maintained but had a little depressing decor. What we ddin't like was the choice of builders to use mirrors on cabinets which make them look so cheap. On other hand, good point was indoor heated parking and choice of storage space in the basement. Over all: 3 out of 5! FYI, I have also reviewed a few other apartments in Albany area that we had visted.

Wonderful place
Lived there four years until transferred, loved it, peaceful, grounds kept beautifully, wonderful neighbors. When returned, rerented again, maintenance, like everywhere, ran hot and cold. Neighbor in complex kept grounds so nicely. 2nd time management very kind to me during financial, health problems. Patiently waited late, bounced checks. Gave me alot more slack than they needed. The only regreat I have is how I left after the kind way they treated me.

DUMP
This place is a dump. We are moving out and int he two years we lived there we had our bedroom wall ripped out without notice because of mold (because the first time they tried to paint over it), they repaired our bathroom tub 8 times...but I guess they didn't fix it because they were back 7 times after the first time...we had our bathroom sink clog and over flow, our kitchen sink overflow 3 times, rats and squirrels in the walls, and our closet smells moldy because our shower tiles are full of mold....prob because the bathroom fan doesn't work. The washing machine broke and overflowed into our apartment, someone else left melted crayon in the dryer, etc. No need to go on...you get the point. All of these problems and they have the nerve to raise your rent 5% every year!!!!!!!!!! RENTER BEWARE - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

We've lived in the complex for two years and can honestly say it was a bad experience. The closet space is good with a nice layout, but having said that everything else is negative. The plumbing is constantly clogged, kitchen needs updating, noise is also a problem. The rent has gone up almost $100 in two years. The rent jumped from 835 in 2005 to 948 in April of 08. These apartments are not worth that much money.

Don't do it.
I live there now, it's not worth any of the money that I'm paying.

I live on the third floor and there are either squirrels and/or rats above my head in the crawl space btwn my ceiling and the roof, which is just gross! you can hear them at night or in the day bumping into the vents!

I had a neighbor on another block that had bats in her crawl space. It's just not worth the drama!

Don't rent here!
This place is awful! Maintenance doesn't have a clue about making repairs. They were at my place five times this summer to fix my a/c. My neighbor had a leak in his apartment, and now it has a moldy smell because they didn't clean the carpet. Every other week, my kitchen sink backs up and overflows. I can never get a straight answer from the girls in the office. The manager is always unavailble to talk on the phone. I can't wait to leave!

Way too expensive
I lived in Heritage apartments for one year and while the parking is ample, snow removal is good and the grounds are well maintained the rent is way to expensive for what you get. I had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath and a den. The den was nice to have but was only big enough for a couch and a desk. The second bedroom was very small. Don't plan on fitting much more than a queen bed and a dresser. 2 Washers and dryers in each building with 12 units makes doing laundry difficult. The fixtures in the kitchen weren't the best and the AC wasn't very efficient.

When my lease was to renew, they were going to raise the rent to over $950. This was a couple years ago so by now it has to be over $1000. I didn't renew my lease and I found a larger apartment for $100 less that included heat and hot water in the rent.

Heritage Village is not a bad place to live, but there are other apartment communities in the area that have a pool, tennis courts and a fitness room. If you shop around you can find an apartment with similar facilities that is much cheaper.

Oh the humanity.
I would describe my time at HVA as an unmitigated disaster. It seemed anything that could go wrong, did go wrong. It seems other tenants had no problems there. Not me. Here's a laundry list of the problems I had there in chronological order from my arrival (probably am forgetting a few doozies, but here we go): leaky roof (which maintenance painted to fix - ingenious), unwashable windows (unless you had a spare scaffold hanging around), refrigerator smelled like fish and was sticky all over the inside, storage unit still had lock on from previous tenant that management said they will remove immediately and never did (waited a few months until another tenant moved out and took over their storage unit and put up a self made label to claim it), no name label on mailbox (all other tenants had them), horrible water pressure/temp in shower, lawn-maintenance beginning their day before 7:00 AM waking me up during the supposed quiet hours with their jet-engine noise generating mowers and blowers, car hit in parking lot overnight by someone (no trace of who did it), disgusting bugs in the apartment in the spring-summer (box-elder bugs), when you squish the bugs they get their revenge by emitting a horrible odor - not good times), constantly broken dryer that you don't know about until after you use it, maintenance frequently shutting the water off without warning (they sometimes slip flyers under the doors to notify the tenants of these things, but they often seemed to run out by the time they got to my building leaving me with no notice), rent increasing way too much each year (like 15%), neighbors who left their crap in the washer/dryer constantly, smoke from tenant in basement apartment exhausting into my 2nd floor apartment, maintenance unable to alleviate smoke issue, management unsympathetic about smoke issue (nothing they can do about it), maintenance constantly painting apartment unit doors and common areas so 30% of the time your apartment wreaked of the cheap paint they used, swimming pool closed during hours it's supposed to be open, noise from hallway, noise from construction in front of apartment that began at 5:00 AM in morning till 8:00 PM at night lasting from June-November (Jack hammers, bulldozers, loud --- stuff), management doing nothing to resolve noise issue from construction (pleading helpless and ignorant to the issue) or offering anything to alleviate my frustration (such as reduced rent due to the unlivable conditions, flat tire from driving thru construction site to my apartment (I actually moved elsewhere for awhile to avoid the construction site that was my home), faulty air conditioning, fire in apartment when maintenance attempted to repair air conditioning (which they never did), white crap all over apartment after maintenance exterminated fire they started while trying to fix air conditioner which I had to clean up, maintenance doesn't fix problems instead makes them worse, management is not at all timely when responding to concerns, world stops if Tina is unavailable. Here's some positives: Good amount of space, good location, good snow removal, pool/common areas are nice when open, never was robbed or assaulted on property. You're better off in the slums. At least you get what you pay for there. And I've spoken to other tenants and they look at me like I'm nuts (they haven't had any issues with anything). I may be nuts, but this stuff did happen, and nobody there gave a damn. They must have really hated me.

Negative comments unfounded
Yes, it is a bit pricey but the facilites are well maintained. Frankly, it has been worth the money. The pool, community room, gym, are very nice and the grounds/roadways are well maintained year round. The staff has always been nice, even with the occasional problem (which they have quick to address). It's a quiet, pleasant community, conveniently located in the town of Guilderland. Maybe some people have had some negative expierences but by and large people are pleased with Heritage Village. I have lived here for five years and most of my neighbors have moved in before myself and are still here. Apparently they like the accomodations as well.

nice, but office people are not nice
The apartments are nice, but they are pricey and the office manager only nice when you are not having a problem. If you even slightly deviate from the (many) rules, you are not treated with alot of respect. Considering that a two bedroom is $992/month (in 2003) you have to deal with a lot of crap. Also, the shower doesn´t keep an even temperature, so you are either blasted with cold or EXTREMELY hot water.
