Great Place

I lived here from 2003-2007 and lived in both an apartment and a townhouse and don t really have any complaints, so I ll respond to the complaints I ve read here. As for the parking - you can write guest passes that are good for up to 2 days or go to the leasing office and get ones good for longer. Towing only happens between 11PM and 7AM. None of the units are far from George C Marshall drive - where you can park on the street for free for as long as you want. You can get a reserved spot for $30. However, even when I was in the apartment in the middle of the complex, you could find a spot within sight of the apartment. The leasing agency people have been very nice, right from the first time I came here. I ve never had a problem with any of them. Maintenance has been great. Yeah so some of them aren t native English speakers - but they re kind, respectful and eager to help. I once came home to find water slowly dripping from the ceiling and they were there within 10 minutes fixing the problem (condensation on the pipe). They came and changed the air filter when I was having bad allergies only about 2 months after they changed it when we had moved in. They even came late at night when the toilet handle broke and was able to call the 'late night' person to come when the doorknob stopped working. When we were deciding on the townhouse, the leasing agent was warning us about how small the kitchen was. When I walked into the townhouse the first time, I couldn t believe how big it was. It s an average-sized kitchen and although it s narrow, it s also quite long. In the apartment, the kitchen was ok - my main problem was there were only two TINY drawers that wouldn't really hold much. The living room is huge - we could put up partitions and make a whole extra bedroom. I saw slugs outside last October (I think they liked my pumpkins) at the townhouse. In our apartment, we did get a couple cockroaches, but keep in mind, we were in the apartment for three years, so living next to so many people, that's fairly good. We also started to get some grasshoppers around August 2007, but that also happens from time to time anywhere you live. Some people have complained about the price - well, I don t mind as my last place that was (literally) around the corner had cockroaches. The pool is nice and they sometimes have a pool party complete with a ton of food the last regular day the pool was open. As for people not picking up after dogs, my place is right in front of one of the dog walk areas and I have only noticed someone having left a present once. In the townhouse, I couldn't really hear the neighbors. In the apartment, we were on a middle floor, on a corner and could hear our one neighbor's music and the neighbor above us who seemed to like to vacuum the bedroom at 10PM while I was trying to sleep. The leasing office people have always been friendly, and I really liked it when they started holding packages for residents.

    Pet-friendly follow-up

"Pet Owners Look No Further!" So says the Web site for Tysons Glen. Just remember that "pet" means "cat or dog," and you´ll be fine. They´re really no different from any other complex that accepts pets, and actually less liberal than most.

As I mentioned previously, Tysons Glen refused our ferret, so we didn´t move there. Since then, I´ve called at least 5 or 6 other apartment complexes, all of which said they allowed cats and dogs and some of which said they allowed only cats. Without exception, not one of these complexes so much as flinched when I mentioned my ferret. The one I settled on isn´t even charging me a deposit or monthly pet rent. And this is a place that doesn´t go around crowing about how "pet friendly" it is. As it turns out, Tysons Glen actually has one of the more restrictive policies among complexes that allow pets.

That´s how my story ends. Just remember, though, if you´re thinking about moving here: Lots of places accept cats and dogs, but the truly pet-friendly places are the ones that don´t limit it to just that. There´s nothing special about the pet policy at this place.

Look Elsewhere if You´d Like to Keep Your Sanity

I have had problems with the managment and staff of Tysons Glen before I even moved in! There was poor communication and the staff gave incorrect information about availability and move in dates...I should have known then that there would be future problems!

The staff gave me the option of having hardwood floors or carpeting in my apt. Because I have a dog, I chose the wooden floors. Well, halfway through my lease, my downstairs neighbor began complaining that he could hear my dog´s toenails click on the floor and in response to this complaint, it took the rental office at least a month to asses what it would do to solve the "problem." In assessing the situation, it took them two times for them to actaully come to the apartment, and once they did, they did not leave me a note letting me know they had been there.

Their letter informing me of their decision to capet my apartment came less than two days before they day they decreed that they would carpet the apartment. They also asked that my dog NOT be in the apartment and that I remove items off the walls and shelves. Well, i needed a bit more time than that to prepare for them to come, including make arrangements for the dog to be elsewhere. They changed the date, but did not begin the job until 5:30 in the evening!!! I came home an hour later, and the apartment is in shambles, my posessions are crammed into one room, my balcony and OUTSIDE of my apartment! Needless to say, they were not finished and I had to stay elsewhere because the job was not complete and the apartment a mess. Once they do finish the job, I will have to reassemble my entire apartment; it´s like i´ve moved in all over again.

I feel this situation, on top of all the other unpleasant experiences I´ve had with this office, should warn whomever reads this webpage to consider looking at a complex other than this one. I would love to be released from my lease, but given their previous unflexibility, I doubt this will occur.

PLEASE LOOK FOR ALTERNATE HOUSING THAN TYSONS GLEN/DEVONSHIRE SQUARE...IT´S A DUMP W/A HORRIBLE LEASING STAFF

Very Bad Management / Leasing staff

It is very bad experience with Leasing staff and also with Management of Tysons Glen. By some mistake, my check returned back by the bank. When I first talked to Leasing Manager, she said in a very sweet voice, that, I will have to pay an amount of 1,275 dollars for my apartment. And even that should also be paid in a day. For another 6 more months, they don´t accept the checks from me. I immediately rushed to bank and paid 10 dollars to get cerified check.

In another three days, I received a notice, from Apartment Management saying that, I need to vaccate my apartement, in five days time, if I don´t pay the file of 120 dollars. It is very rediculous behaviour of Management and Leasing staff, just for a returned check only once. Till that time, there was no late payments of any kind. But Management acted very rude, without even trying to understand the past record of the tenant. I felt it is a better to get out of apartment, than staying in such a bad apartment, who don´t understand and acts like deaf and dumb.

If any one reads the reviews, before taking an apartment in Tysons Glen, I advice this is a worst of all apartments so far.

No one of my friend, returned with out paying the towing fee of 90 dollars each time, as Leasing office don´t give proper parking slip and the towing guys always looks for all vehicles to the minute level and try to tow as much vehicles as possible, to make big amount of money.

I guess thats for cleaning up the RATS... Look for Rat traps (small triangular black boxes) throughout the property prior to moving in. GOOD LUCK!

            OK place

I lived there from June 200 to Septemeber 2002. Alot of dogs, which is fine, but alot did not clean up. And it brought the rats. I lived in 2200 building near the creek. Holes in the wall broke the rats inside the building. They (or one) came in thru my stove electrical access in the wall. The apartment did bring in the help to plug the holes both in and out of the building. Otherwise, the place was not bad. I can recomend it.

Moved Here June 2003 and still Happy

I moved in June. My roommate and I have had nothing but a good experience with them.

Well there was the fact that we never got the gift each tenant was suppose to get during "Tenant Appreciation Week."

We´ve had no problems with the staff. We had to put in one maitenance request, and they took care of it very quickly.

It´s quiet, we don´t hear our neighbours traipsing around next door. (We live in a two bedroom town home).

We´re very pleased.

We got a special when we applied so our move-in fee was only 150 plus a discount on the application fee.

I´m not terribly pleased at paying the one time $300 for my 7 pound cat, but overall I can´t complain about the special we got.

I enjoy the place. Right now I intend on staying past my 1 year lease.

Disappointing application experience with leasing staff.

We drove down from Michigan to find an apartment a month ago. We stopped our search at Tysons Glen after we were assured by Mike Matarazzo, the leasing consultant that proof of income could be in the form of 2002 W-2s. He said that a letter of offer of employment or a cosigner was not necessary to be approved. Great!

After we provided this info to Mike, a week went by and we were informed that we were not approved. Apparently they hired a new manager named Rosa and they changed the policy without notifying Mike. When I asked to speak to Rosa to see if they could let it slide and stick to their original word, I got the runaround: "Why do you want to talk to a manager? She´ll tell you the same thing", "Rosa´s busy." Please hold (and I wait on hold for 5 minutes)... They just didn´t seem to get the fact that we were misled and wasted several weeks that could have been spent searching for apartments because of them.

Management at the complex was very rigid and inflexible. Most places of business would stand by their original word. Not Tyson´s Glen. They´d rather argue with APPLICANTS they´ve misled and lose two very good tenants. To their credit, they returned our app fee and deposit, but I had to make another apartment searching trip down to VA which was a major hassle that could have been avoided had Mr. Matarazzo been aware of the community´s policies.

I actually e-mailed AJ Dwoskin & Associates to see if they could help us find another apartment, because I was sure that their staff was not as rude/incompetent as the one at Tyson´s Glen. I guess they are even indifferent on a management level because they never responded to my email, but instead forwarded it back to Tyson´s Glen!

Folks, rude and inflexible management is the norm toward residents, but not applicants. If I got this treatment as an applicant, think what it would be like to try and get them to fix a leaky faucet or address any other concern. They were like a completely different staff after they had my app fee and deposit.

Now I am renting from the Metropolitan at Alexandria. Check them out instead. They are a little more expensive but are BRAND NEW (no pest problems like have been reported here) and nicer.. very dog-friendly too and walking distance to Van Dorn Metro... and you can get $100 back here in addition to their leasing specials ($1000 crate and barrel gift card):

http://www.rent.com/property/440395/0/

Not at all what it seems to be........

If you visit the property please look past the smiles and pleasant phone manners. I have had to learn to live with mice, spiders, ants, centipedes, washing machines that flood my kitchen, refrigerators that leak, dishwasher that takes 3 hours to finish 1 cycle. But the worst of all is having to live with "MOLD". I have over $5,000 in medical bills due to the fact that my 5 year old son was having extremely bad reactions to the mold. Which was inadequately repaired. They did no testing no treating....they just caulked right over it.

My son currently stays with my mom, because I am extremely concerned with his health problems when in my apartment home. And I just can’t afford to keep rushing him to the emergency room every night. Nor is it worth the risk of the long term effects it may have on his little body. I get up at 5:30 am Monday thru Friday and drive to Dumfries Va., to get him ready for daycare. Then I drive from Dumfries to Herndon since that is where I work and he goes to school. This is truly an inconvenience to all involved in this very stressful way of life I (we) are having to live. Not to mention the wear and tear on my vehicles.

As compensation for these constant reoccurring problems, I asked to be released from my current lease agreement so that I may find adequate housing. My current lease is good until October 2003, and I will not be renewing my lease. There are only 3 months remaining on my lease. And of course Tyson´s Glen denied my request, stating a contract is a contract.

My recommendation would’ve been to permit the resident to break the lease and move off property without any negative consequences. And hope for the Childs health to improve without any negative repercussions from the MOLD.

I lived here for one year in a two bedroom apartment. For apartment living - you can´t complain too much. Decent enough area and right next to 495/66.

Grounds are maintained and overall exteriors are maintained. Recently built a new dog run that was an added benefit.

Fitness center lacks variety and space - but for $25 it does the job. Staff seemed eager to keep improving it.

All of my maintenance requests were done the same day if emergency and typically next day if non-emergency.

Staff seemed friendly enough. Only complaint was the way they handle lease renewals. No help whatsoever and new residents get a better deal than someone who has lived there a year with no problems.

Overall complex is pretty quiet during the night. Lower apartments can have some noise problems from upper level apartments. I made every attempt to keep walking noise down, but neighbor below could still hear very well - guess that is problem with apartment living.

I would have stayed had they offered the same deal that they offered to new tenants.

I moved in to Tysons Glen in the summer of 2000. I´ve lived in both the apartments and the townhouses and have enjoyed living in both of them. I haven´t run into any maintenance problems in all this time and the staff have been very friendly and responsive. My rent is still cheaper than most places in the area, and I have access to much more amenities. They are incredibly pet friendly and even recently built a fenced-in dog exercise pen.

Management was very accommodating when we moved from the apartment to the townhouse. I would be happy to stay longer, but would like to be a bit closer in to the city.

I don´t actually live in Tysons Glen...I live in Devonshire Square, Tysons Glen´s sister complex on Route 7.
I think what everyone else on here wants is a perfect world. The only true issue I´ve seen is the parking, which is slowly but surely improving. My 3BR is spacious and bright, and, considering that I can plainly see 495-N from my bedroom window, very quiet. If something breaks, we know that an online maintenance request will be fulfilled (they were in my apartment Sunday morning before 9am to fix the toilet that broke Saturday night). The non-refundable fee is a move-in fee, not combined with any other deposits (other than pet deposits)...they use it to repaint and re-wax the hardwood floors (I saw the apartment before I moved it and they definitely did this). The hardwood floors are nice to have, but hope you don´t have neighbors that like to Riverdance, as our upstairs neighbors do.
There are pros and cons to everything. For the location, the amenities and the overall quality of the apartment, the monthly rent is right on.

I suggest everyone read apartment reviews before seeking a place to live. This will not only save you time but also money. After visiting Tysons Glen the property managers represented Tysons Glen to be a perfect place to live including inticing me to sign an agreement for a non-refundable deposit as being a great deal.

Later on after accidently running across apartment reviews, Tysons Glenn had so MANY negative reviews that I changed my mind about living there. I did agree to pay for the application fee but requested the move-in fee back which MANAGEMENT DECLINED.

I agree with the other reviews that speaks to the unfriendly mannerism of the property management.

I lived here for 1 year and had nothing but problems. The office staff was rude with a false air of superiority and rarely did anything helpful. The maintenance staff was better than David Copperfield at disappearing when things needed fixing.

It seems to me that the Leasing Management company is trying to get rid of their tenants by charging too much money for old apartments, raising the rent by leaps and bounds each year, hiring towing companies to tow cars in the middle of the night, and by allowing maintenance issues to exist for far too long.

On several occassions the leasing company "lost" my rent check - that I had put in their rent drop box - resulting in nasty notices and 2 court summons! Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that my friend was not subjected to any further problems with Tysons Glen.

The walls and floors are thin as paper. And if you notice - each month you will see moving trucks of people trying to get out of there! There´s a reason that so many people are moving each month!! Poor customer service, exorbitant fees and rent increases are just a few.

Falls Church and Tysons Corner are nice areas to live - just don´t waste your time with this place. What can I say? You´ve got a dog, you need a place that takes dogs (over 20 pounds). The problem is, if I tell you and the dogs´ VET tells you he is NOT an "undesirable," why are we still indecisive about what has to be done? I spent $800 JUST TO HAVE THE DOG MOVE IN and after that, plus 3 months paid rent, the office staff decided I possibly had an "undesirable" dog. Well, where were you people when I moved in? The office manager actually told me she JUST HEARD about the fact that the insurance this apartment complex has doesn´t necessarily cover certain kinds of dogs (not just Pits) -- and some were at the complex! I was also told by the office manager that I needed to follow and report back to her anyone who had a dog that wasn´t "allowed" here. I don´t get my pay checks from this place, I´m surely not going to do their jobs for them.

Maintenance? How many times do you actually have to say "I don´t have a microwave yet" before you give up?! Not a thing has been fixed since we moved in this past summer, even though a full summary was given to these people (at their request). Also, the "new" appliances in our apartment (i.e., the dryer) was filled with lint and god-knows-what the first time we opened it. True what one person reviewing Tysons Glen said -- there is NO 24 hour advance notice given before they "show up." I´ve had the dog shut away in the bedroom for days with no one coming back to do the work so the h*ll with it. Oh, and here´s another ´funny´ -- just the other week, the apartments were left leaflets that say something to the effect that "we know you don´t always have time to let us know if there´s something that needs to be fixed.....so we´re just checking." GIVE ME A BREAK.........

I just moved in a few months ago. I like the groundskeeping. On the outside it looks great, like a little village. Nice to walk around in the morning-if you don´t step in dog poop-because plenty of people don´t follow the rules. Sarah is the new manager of the place and I like her. But I have to agree with many of the comments here. The staff has an attitude. They are quick to become unpleasant for no obvious reason. Maybe they´re burnt out? We are quiet, on time with rent, and follow the rules, especially the dog rules, but you´d never know it by the way we are treated by staff. I´m hoping Sarah can turn it around. We´ll see...Also, Not fun to see new, lower prices than we just signed on for.

                                  funny little story....not

Just thought I´d share this lovely story in case you´re thinking of moving here.....

I lived here in the 90´s. One day, as I arose from a nap, I noticed through my blurry eyes, what I thought was a bug or two flying around my bathroom light (which I had left on). I thought, hmmm, strange, but no real big deal. My dog, on the other hand, had a look of horror.

So I got up, walked straight to the bathroom, and lo and behold there were LOTS of bugs flying around. I couldn´t believe it, was I still dreaming?? But, the look on my dog´s face scared me more than the bugs. She knew something I didn´t.

So, I left the flying insect situation in the bathroom for a moment and walked around the corner to my kitchen. It was still light out, but fading fast, so I fliped on the lightswitch. You would not believe what was in my kitchen.....thousands of flying bugs....and walking bugs, and bugs sitting around. And I mean thousands! Okay, I thought, no wonder my dog looked terrified.

I immediately went to the rental office, and tried with hesitancy to explain what I had just witnessed. Surely, they wouldn´t believe me. Surely I must have gone insane in their eyes. But before I could carry on long with my shrills and yes, tears, the manager appeared in the office doorway with a heavy duty vacumn cleaner, and said "here, use this". "The termites have obviously hatched."

enough said................

                                    Great Apt. Great Staff

I have lived in Tysons Glen for a year now and have had NO problems with the staff or my apartment whatsoever. After living in NOrth Arlington for 3 years and paying the same amount for half the size, I find Tysons Glen a refreshing change. I have yet to find one staff member who isn´t helpful. I think its a great little neighborhood.

Save your money and go somwhere else...

the only reason why I was living here was my commute to work. Rent is very high for the quality of the unit. Kitchen appliances are really old and bad. The washer and dryer shakes the floor and is so loud that I actually have to sit outside while doing laundry. Told the management about it-they said that they will order new ones, and now it´s been over 5 months and I am still using the 16th centruy washer and dryers. Before you sign anything with these guys, make sure you dont get stuck with a 60 day notice to vacate. Their marketing along with their apt sucks so you will be stuck paying for 2 extra months after you move out.
I would never refer a friend to move in here. I really wonder if AJ Dwoskin (the management company) actually knows these problems or if they really give to hoots about it.
Save your hard earned money and go somewhere else. THere are a lot of places around in the tyson´s conrner area in the same price range....

We complained this to the rental office. They did not fix it properly.
Some stupid maintenance guys came.
My wife spoke to the property manager regarding this. eh...it´s alright

We have been livng in Tysons Glen for almost a year. It definitely offers the most space for the money. Unfortunately, the floors and ceilings are incredibly thin and maintenance is very slow and at times incompetant. They have a lot of rules, but they don´t enforce them all that often. Probably because people complain so much about the towing it´s hard at times to find parking. Seems like some apartment residents own 2-4 cars, not all tagged. People aren´t supposed to store junk and trash on their balconies, but more and more that´s all you see. Overall though, the office staff is friendly and tries to be helpful and the apartments are definitely large for the money. We could be paying hundreds more a month somewhere else, but it´d be a lot smaller.

                                            Horrible for the cheap price!!!

Tysons Glen is very reasonably priced for the Tysons Corner area, but what you are not paying in rent definitly shows! The grounds are reasonable kept, the apartments are not very well maintained. The main complaint I have had after living there for two years is that:
1. They raised our rent by 20% after the first year. That is an unprecedented rate hike.
2. We did not recieve any improvements in my apartment for the rental price.
3.The staff in the leasing office is attociously horrible! They are snobby and laughed at me when I complained that they shut off our water without notice. In addition our water heater broke and they did not forward the phones to a paging service so we had to mop the flor every half hour through out the night. Water damage that was caused by this was not fixed in a timely manner.

In short, the way the apartment is when you move is the way it will stay, with antiquated appliances and an extremely unhelpful staff.

                                              It got really bad!

I lived there in the 80´s. It was such a nice, quiet place to live. The trees that line the neighborhood streets changed colors with the seasons. Just beautiful. As years went by, it started getting scary to drive in, there was a lot of drug activity and crime going on when we finally left. I was just wondering what those "security" issues were that the other reviewer spoke about...
I have to agree that the walls are thin and the bathrooms are small, and do not forget the kitchens they are tiny. It was such a nice place, shame on those that didn´t take care of it!!

So I´ve read the other reviews and I´m in full agreement.. I´ve had parking problems.. the tow trucks set off car alarms that wake you up at 2am! The walls are incredibly thin.. the design of the rooms was poor way back when.. the cable tv company that you have to use sucks.. leasing people come and go like your garbage and things are said to accomodate you and then they are not backed by key management.
How bout my boyfriends car was parked in spots marked visitor and we left for the weekend and we returned his car was towed and ´visitor spot´ had been blacktopped over! So dishonest..

                                                  Follow the rules..........

For the prior reviewer......I did follow the parking rules.....even bought a stupid tag for my guests.....

This is what happened.....last year we had a bad ice/snow storm. The next day, we all dug trails so that we could back out our cars, leaving every empty parking spot with that shadow car configuration (sheltered from the snow). What we had was a makeshift parking lot. Well, when I returned home from work, just as everyone did, I followed the trails and parked over that "dry" spot as best I could....with the two shoveled mounds of snow on either side. The next morning, I awoke to my car being missing. The snow/ice had melted just enough that you could barely make out the end of one line. My car was over the line by INCHES (the tow guy even took a pic of it - how nice of him). I was so angry, and yes upset (I am a female : )), I tried speaking to the manager, but she was rude and wouldn´t listen, which, of course, didn´t help the situation. The next night, I heard that tow guy out there again, and watched every move he made (maybe trying to scare him...lol)....and yep he was taking another car from the very spot I had parked in. The only difference is, when my neighbor got his car back, the front end was destroyed. Guess Tyson´s need to find better tow drivers....hope that cost them a bunch of money.

So, previous reviewer, I don´t know about you, but when rents go from $620 in the early 90s to $1,220 as they where when I left, I don´t have an extra $100 just lying around to give to some sneaky towing company, compliments of Tyson´s Glen management. I sure hope you do..........

I won´t even get into what happened here in the mid 90s "security" wise.......maybe you should read up on it..........wish I did before I moved back.
