My husband and I moved into Thalia Gardens last august. We've had nothing but problems since. We've found many cockroaches, people are loud and inconsiderate, constant cigarette smoke smell, our hallway is constantly dirty, our mail box lock broke, my car has tons of new scratches from people slamming their door into it. My husbands car was broken in to. There's constant kids/adults roaming around at night and during the day. The apartment is cheaply made, they painted before we moved in & the paint was wet and now looks like crap. Save your money and find a nice place to live! This place is a rip off.

I am amused somewhat at some of the reviews. I thought that I was "picky" about my place, but after reading some of these reviews, I am not at all. Which is sort of a relief. I cannot agree with any of the complaints other than the one about the creaky floors upstairs. That is the main problem we have. But, I can't help but wonder if the tenants with all the complaints give the staff and maintenance crew a call when there is a problem. If you don't let them know, of course it won't get fixed. They need to be made aware that there is a problem and given a chance to fix it. Even if it takes more than one try. Any time that we had a problem, we immediately called to request or report issue and BAM..same or next day it was DONE! We love our apartment, location, office staff and maintenance crew. Even the security does a good job. You may want to consider buying a house instead of renting so that you can monitor the maintenance yourself. I am sorry that there are so many complaints. I am grateful that we have not experienced any of these difficulties. I know that my husband and I will be very sad if we have to move. I wish for the new year that all tenants enjoy their living experience here as much as we do. Please start the new year with an open mind and give maintenance and office staff a chance to work with you and your issues. I promise that you will have a different opinion and be glad of it. I know I sound like your grandma but... I am a grandma!! Oh yeah. And good luck if you move somewhere else! Let me know if you find a place without the issues you refer to. We want to move there too!

We heard of Thalia gardens from searching online. After seeing some negative reviews online we still wanted to view the property and take a good look at it for ourselves. Their property is located in a great location; close to the 264, beach, mall, and town center. The neighborhood appeared to be quiet and clean. The town homes are located in the front of the property and the further you go back there you will find the majority of Thaliaâ??s apartments. We liked what we saw and decided to meet the staff. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly associate name Angela. Angela appeared knowledgeable about the property and was able to show us around the same day. Angela was a great help to us as we did not have the best of credit at that time nor did we have the best rental history. Despite our unfavorable background Angela worked with her manager to get us approved for a town home. We were obviously very excited and happy that Angela didnâ??t just give up on us, but fought for us to get into the town home we desired. The property was nothing like many of the negative reviews online stated. The tennis courts are fully operational and clean as well as the pool. The gym is nice as well as the studio next to it. Thanks Angela!!! Negative: We were scheduled to move in on Friday February 20th 2014 which would have given us 1 week to move all of our furniture to the town home before our current lease expired on February 28th. Everything was set; the rental truck was reserved, we didnâ??t need to ask off for work, we also ordered furniture which was being shipped from California on the day of the move, as well as the utilities were scheduled for installation that weekend. So we received a call from Angela two days before the move stating that we were not going to be able to move in on our scheduled day because the current tenant was still residing in the town home and would not be out as expected which would not give maintenance enough turnaround time. Of course we were very disappointed as we had to call everyone again to reschedule and this time we both had to take off of work to move. We agreed to move in on February 28th to give maintenance a week to get the town home in order and ready for move in. On the day of the move we arrived to our new town home to find out that there was still work that needed to be done. We called Angela and told her that we needed to be moved in at a certain time so that we wouldnâ??t get charged an extra day for the rental truck. Angela reported that the carpets still needed to be cleaned. We told her that we couldnâ??t wait that long and to forget about cleaning the carpets as they were not bad looking anyway. Angela offered a free professional carpet cleaning to comp us for this issue. Some of the teens like to congregate on the corners. My fianc© and I were walking to the dumpster one day to throw out trash and there was a young man urinating in plain sight next to the dumpsters with his friends loitering around the property. Thalia does have a direct number to security, but we have yet to call them so I canâ??t report about them. 5 day inspection: At first glance there appeared to be nothing wrong with the town home. There were some issues such as: range was loud and vibrating, trim was not finished being painted, cracks in the marble pieces of the bathroom thresholds and were coming apart, some steps of the stairs feel broken and are sinking in, many inch long carpet staples scattered throughout the house (thank god we didnâ??t step on one of those lol), and the siding in the front of the house is riddled with nails throughout. After submitting the inspection sheet maintenance was able to quiet the range in the kitchen, but the other issues have not been addressed yet and it is June 2014. Overall, were satisfied with Thalia, the neighborhood is very quiet, the ladies in the front office are nice (especially Angela).

I am a resident of Thalia and am coming upon the end of my year. I have been trying to decide if I will renew my lease or try and find a house to rent or buy. My mind was made up for me when I when I walked into the office to weigh my options and met the new manager and several new office staff. It is nice to actually speak to the manager instead of being passed off to someone else. She always takes the time no matter what it is and I believe it is heart felt. I wouldn't mind talking to any of the other office staff because they seem to lead by example and are really the most genuine and honest people that i have met. It is nice to be welcomed with a smile and not as if I am a burden. They are such a breath of fresh air and I am so glad that I live at Thalia. They have a wonderful maintenance staff and the new Maintenance manager is the best. Proud to call Thalia my home and will continue to as long as my job allows. Thanks Thalia and thank you Upper Management for making the wonderful changes that you have!!

Best Experience by far in Virginia Beach. In the many years of living in virginia beach and visiting multiple communities this was by far the best one! Not only is the community clean quiet and the apartments well kept but the staff was wonderful! We had the pleasure working with Jennifer and she was more than we could have asked for. She had no problem walking us around to the many locations that were going to be open and listening to my boyfriends many "picky" questions! she made the experience fun and relaxed we went in with some doubt and came out with nothing but a move in date to look forward to! So thanks to Jennifer We really appreciated your help in finding a new place to call home

We just moved out this weekend after living here for a year. We moved back to our hometown in northern Virginia. We lived in a 2 bed/2 bath ground floor unit. My biggest complaint is the noise coming from the upstairs neighbors. We had 2 sets of neighbors during the year with the 2nd being even louder than the first. HOWEVER, my reason for writing this review is the maintenance folks. Our unit was right next door to the maintenance shop. Most mornings as I was leaving for work, Raphael was gearing up for his day and he ALWAYS said good morning and started my day off with a smile! I will miss Raphael! There were 2 times we had to call maintenace and both of them were "after hours" - the first for a problem with our water not being hot. Carrnell (I hope I spelled his name right)was quick to respond, told me what the problem was and when it would fixed - and it was! But my BEST experience was with Garrett. I came back to the apartment after a long weekend away to find that the upstairs neighbors laundry and "other things" had backed up into our master bedroom shower. It was disgusting! Again - after hours - rather late actually. Garrett showed up with a great attitude even though it was late and an awful call - and I think he said it was his first "on call" call as he hasn't been with Thalia for long. He figured out what was wrong, he even called a plumber right then to come and snake the drain PLUS he cleaned and deoderized my shower. He kept me informed of what he was doing and about how long it was going to take. Let me tell you - he was my hero that night as my husband had already moved up to our new place. If the owners/managers of Thalia Gardens read these reviews - I would applaud you for your maintenace crew - from the head on down. You need to keep those guys & gals happy becuase they do a tough job - and are alway so very plesant. I would be more than happy to recommend Thalia Gardens to anyone looking for a place to live in Va. Beach.

I have lived at Thalia for almost 2 years and I am not planning on leaving anytime soon. The office just had a pizza party so everyone could come in and eat dinner and sign their new lease. I dont know of any other apartments that treat their clients like that. Hats off to Thalia for going above and beyond. I appreciate it.

I have lived at Thalia Gardens for almost two years now. I originally moved into a one bedroom and loved the building, location on the property, and my neighbors. Large walk in closets, new carpet, washer and dryer included in your unit, and nice patio or balcony. The staff is very friendly and anytime I have a question or problem they help me right away and the maintenance has always come that day or within 24 hours to help with an issue I have. These apts are very large, esp for the VB area! The price isn't that bad either. After a year or so, we transferred to a larger apt (2 bed w/den) and this apt was updated which I loved! Black appliances and dark cherry cabinets, so pretty! I have recommended a few friends to living here and they have and loved it as well. The only complaint in my new building is the family that lives below me, they are so loud and obnoxious, always yelling at each other, kid is always and i mean ALWAYS crying, which echoes through the building, the mother tells it to shut up and lay down and go to sleep, and has the tv on all night in her room, I could call about a noise complaint but i am not that type of person, however that isn't anything that is the managements fault or has any control over unless i complain. Oh and the stairs are really loud! Living on the first floor to begin with, it sounded like a herd of cattle going up and down the stairs, now i am on the second floor and am probably the herd of cattle to others ha ha. The lobby in the building is very echoey also, esp if you have loud people always coming in and out, late at night or early in the morning, that is annoying, but thats the luck of the draw when you move into an apartment where you share a building with others. Sadly, we will be leaving in a few months due to relocating for a job. You are right near town center and everything you need is within 10 in from here.

This was our second time living here, the place has went downhill since our last time living here, the smells of oldness, the AC cant keep up with the weather outside, its close to the interstate and eating and entertainment, but they really need to make some changes with insulation and AC work.

It saddens me to think that potential renters will look on this website and see Thalia Gardens 70-something rating and therefore think this is a decent place to rent from (as I did). Don't fall victim to the lies Thalia Gardens has placed on this website.

REVIEW FROM A LONG DISTANCE PROSPECTIVE TENANT As a prospective tenant moving to Virginia Beach from Hawai'i, my spouse and I chose Thalia Gardens over other places we were considering due to the quickness of and courtesy in our correspondence. Moving halfway across the planet is taxing enough to say the least and we are not a military couple so everything is being done on our own, no government assistance. There were issues with the approval process via the website and with the 5-6 hour time difference (Hawai'i does not observe DST & the mainland changed to standard time during our process) time sensitive situations were handled very efficiently by Angela. She was a gem throughout the entire ordeal yet she did not solely work the approval. I will agree with those who warn of the staff's disposition until you become a "resident." Living in Hawai'i, where there is " ALOHA," I expect the processes to be different. I do NOT expect however, to be lead to believe we are tenants FOR SURE, told to continue faxing/e-mailing/electronically depositing funds to COMPLETE the lease to be told via e-mail, not the professional courtesy of a phone call, 1 week before arriving that there was an issue with rental history and we would not be rented to. Is that not one of the FIRST qualifiers?! Thalia Gardens has our money and told me AFTER all else that we would not be reimbursed until 4-6 weeks. The CHECK (not electronic in 2 days as it was given) is cut from the corporate office so we are unable to even access it to use for a different apartment. Handle your business a bit better Thalia Gardens. We are 5000 miles away from aloha and rainbows, during the holidays, missing funds and without our own place to call home!

We have been living at Thalia Gardens for about two months now and it has been wonderful! There is SO much space - the living room is huge, which is great for my son! The appliances are all relatively (if not brand) new, we have low flow toilets, and the windows have been replaced in the last 5 years. Our electric bill is less than 1/3 of what it was at our prior, smaller apartment. Staff and maintenance have been wonderful - any problems are resolved quickly and without a hassel. The only time we hear any noise from neighbors is in the hallway leading up to the apartments, and you can sometimes hear people coming in the main entrance from the master bedroom, but nothing that is bothersome. You get one assigned parking spot per apartment, but there are plenty of unmarked spots and we have never had a problem finding close parking spots for our two cars or for guests. We have a GAS STOVE!!! Also, we have a playground, pool, workout area, and tennis courts. My only complaints so far, which really aren't anything terrible at all, is that I wish we had ceiling fans and we can't actually use the garbage disposal for anything other than bits and pieces of things that go down the drain from regular washing. Everything has been wonderful so far!

I have been living here for about a year and have loved it! The staff is absolutely amazing and will bend over backwards for you! Plenty of guest parking and there is reserved parking, most of the time right outside your unit. It is pretty close to the highway (264) but the windows are double pane so you don't really hear it in the apartment. The maintenance staff is great and will fix your issues very quickly. I wanted a new cable drop put into the apartment and it was done the next day! This is a great place to live, you wouldn't regret it.

These reviews are DEFINITELY being written by management or by someone who is paid to keep putting lies on this website. This explains how Thalia Gardens got their 70 rating, by constantly writing reviews that are completely untrue. Maintenance here is HORRIBLE. They do crappy work and they are slow (a week or more) to fix regular maintenance issues. Then they leave your carpets caked with dirt, and you still have to call them back AGAIN to fix it correctly. If you are standing in your apartment, you can hear the ENTIRE conversation of the people in the hall and the people outside (including car alarms and the drunken people cursing and fighting on the weekends). Not to mention the fact that your apartment cannot hold the RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE heat that Thalia Gardens makes you pay for, because the windows will not close tightly and therefore lets all of the heat out. Music is often blaring loudly from somewhere. This is like living in the ------. Any person who enjoys living here has very low standards.

I just moved into Thalia Gardens this month and Jennifer Brown hands down is one of the best leasing agents I've ever met. Not only does she make sure you enjoy where you live but she goes above and beyond by providing information of the surrounding area. Also, everything may not be perfect but if there is an issue between herself and maintenance supervisor Bill they will get you squared away. So far so good compared to most other properties I would recommend Thalia Gardens. GREAT STAFF, spacious apartments/townhomes and decent community.

Not a safe area, have caught people peeking through my windows at night and have had my brand new car vandalized. The staff is friendly, until you sign the lease. Then they will not return your calls or will always be "out of the office" for the day. It's going to be a long year for us. If you are checking this place out, please beware. It is definitely not worth the $950 a month when there are other nicer places in the area. I would like to add that the maintenance team are no help and definitely creepy! When there are maintenance issues (like I said, have only been here a month and have had more than one issue), they wait until we leave and then go into our apartment. BEWARE

I have been a resident here for almost 4 months and over all it is a great community to live in. The office staff and maintenance staff is very polite and very sensitive to any issues that you have and they fix them in a timely manner. I can see myself staying here for a very long time. The premises have security that patrols around all hours of the day so it is very safe. The only issue I have is the parking situation and 3rd party vendors that come out here and do landscaping and different repairs. They cut grass and leave debris on your patio. As for the parking you only get one reserved parking space and a blank space that anyone can use. During the weekend parking can get a little crazy but all in all it is a great place to live.

Unsafe and nobody seems to care! Rapid decline all the way around since our move-in two years ago. What was once a classy place to be has become the hood, with the Nusbaum focus being all about turnover rather than providing the resident with what they PROMISE and claim to be. They can't seem to staff competent office material (three managers in two years) and the contractors are the lowest bidders, so you get what you pay for. Office manager (Lori) who was here when we moved in was the only one who made things happen. More to come after we leave. The safety and security issues are completely ignored by corporate on down. Come by and see what they've chosen to do to the shrubbery so as not to have the landscaping expense. Sad commentary and now all about the $$$.

We moved to Thalia Gardens four years ago after we lost our home .We chose this area because we have elderly parent who lived near by and they would need our help. We chose Thalia Gardens because it offered everything we were looking for at the price we could afford. We have been very pleased ,our apartment is very roomy and we have felt at home . The maintenance service has been excellent. Bill has went over and above to care for us. My father has passed away and its time to move my mother in with us , she has a lot of needs so we need to move into a house. God has been very kind to supply that for us just five minuets from our church and our children. Would like to thank everyone for taking care of us well we were here . Bill , Ron said you need to brush up on your golf game. God Bless, Ron and Rita Ackerman

He has maintained professionalism throughout the years I ve lived here and I m very appreciative to all he s done. Thank You Jim and the maintenance team for making our homes here in Thalia actually feel like home. I also want to thank the Managent team Cali, Angela, and Casie for their continuous professionalism as well. Thank you so much for your patience for I can be a difficult tenant. Angela C.

Today, Jim from the maintenance team went above and beyond what most provide for their tenants. I thought he should be recognized for his extreme courtesy, thoughtfulness, and efficiency in fixing the problem at hand. I think he is an asset to any employer. It makes us feel good knowing they take such great care of those who live in the community.

I'm a current resident and I really love living here at Thalia gardens!! I've been here for a year now and from the beginning everyone was great. I especially have to give a shout out to Ruth one of the leasing consultants. Ruth is very attentive to your wants and needs when looking for an apt and after you've become a tenant. I've recently transferred from the townhome into a 2bdrm with den and she made my transition very smooth. Everyone in the office is great and when they speak with you on the phone it's always a smile on the other side of that phone. Maintenance has been excellent so far, and normally walk thru's are horrible when leaving or transferring to another apt. Well, Bill who's the head of maintenance made things happen!! My walk-thru with him was very pleasant and the whole maintenance staff are such nice people!! As you can tell my experience has been wonderful so far. The pool is great and during the summer there's a cookout that is given by the staff and it was very nice. We had a lot of fun. I haven't use the new fitness center yet, but I have gone inside and the upgrade is very nice and I can't wait to get in there!! :) No community is perfect, but to have a great office and maintenance staff makes a very happy tenant!! PS: Thank you to Ruth and Bill for making my experience in my new apt very pleasant!!!! :)And thank you to Jennifer Brown- for helping me out when I'm in a jam sometimes and need to send a fax!! :)
