STAY AWAY
The absolute worst place to live multiple problems that range from as small as poor parking locations to the back light on the building being out for 4 months that's right one a week or 2 weeks but 4 months and as result of this my truck was broken into twice!! I called and informed the front office and the people up there are jokes a person living on the street would fit the position better than the clowns they have working in their. And to top things off there was a natural gas leak in our building for 9 hours because a main trance man did not do a leak check after performing maintenance on someone's stove which is so rediculious because guess who foots the bill for maintainers screwup that's right the renters do! We called the manergers of the proberty a company called sl neusbam(sp?) and explained our frustration and they informed us that if we want out of our lease that we could give a 30 day notice and we won't get any fees Due to my crazy working hours I have been unable to find a new place to live but I called the managing company and asked for our agreement in writing and they said no without delay. Kind of shady don't ya think?? This place is a nightmare and I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone and if I had the power to get thailia gardens black listed from all military living here I would

Not worth it!
Worst place I've ever lived. There is mold everywhere. Maintence doesn't actually fix things and don't talk to the office, they all have attitude problems once you move in. Drug dealers were selling right behind my apartment, not that they cared. My kids room flooded so I put her you on the back porch to dry why they dried the room. I got a letter saying I broke my lease agreement because there was a toy in the yard but they didn't fix the leak.

Great place to live
Me and my husband have been living here for 2.5 years and are actually sad to be leaving. These apartments are huge, a little pricey but you get what you pay for. With my husband being in the military and gone all they time, I feel extremely safe to go outside to take my dogs to the bathroom at anytime of the day. The maintenance staff is great and fast. The office staff is always wonderful. People talk bad about Lori but she is actually a great and fair manager. And no I don't work for them, I am just giving my rating.

Best community ever
I have lived in alot of apartment complexes all over the country and this is easily the best one I've ever been at. The floor plans are extremely large, and the price is surprisingly one of the lowest in town. i really feel fortunate I gave the complex a look. Maintenance exceeds all expectations as well. The other day I had a problem with clogged drains. Naturally, I found out when I got home from work at 7pm, and the on call maintenance man came straight over and spent the next couple of hours solving the problem. He was very courteous and came back the next day while I was at work to clean up the mess. I found it very remarkable that he put in so much time when he could have blown off the problem until the next day. I will gladly renew my lease and continue to do so until I am ready to buy a house.

More Money
Nice at first but hidden rules you need to know about, if you want Direct TV, the dish can only be place in your back patio, and you may not get a signal. The gym hrs is the same as the office hrs, so no after hrs wrking out, and if your in the military by the time your off wrk its close, but parking was good and the pool is nice, so it may or may not wrk for you.

Love it here...came back for a second tour
We were so please with Thalia Gardens and their staff the first time we lived in Virginia Beach, that we chose to rent here again for our second tour. The staff has been wonderful to work with through our move, not only to myself and my husband, but also our children. The aptment size is adquate for our family. The maintenance crew has been responsive when we've needed them. Our kids enjoyed the pool and the abundant area for playing games outside. With any place that isn't your own, there are changes I'd like to see...but for the most part, we are very pleased. We really enjoy it here!

Money hungry and rude managment
At first we thought this place was awesome. A little pricey, they say the apartment has been re- finished, but really its what you would expect of an apartment this price, nothing is really upgraded just acceptable and generic. After i lease was up we decided to pay month to month because my husband would be going on deployment in 3 months. our bill was supposed to be 100 dollars more but it wasnt, so we paid what was on the bill. When we went in to pay they said we owed them 120 dollars (this was right before the weekend). We were unable to get the extra money to them until that monday, than they charged us a 100 dollar late fee for not paying what wasnt even in writing on our bill. The manager was extremely rude and said if we did not pay the late fee within 5 days they would take us to court. it would seem like they would have cut us a break since we have paid our rent on time EVERYTIME for a year, and honestly it was there mistake to begin with. We also referred a friend to them. They are terrible with military and the fact that military members may not always be able to give them exactly 60 days notice of moving out. We currently have 4 days left before we move out and to be honest im in fear for my life of what they are going to charge us for after we move. Also i have had to call security on our next door neighbors 3 times for noise complaints, after the third time they keyed my car. terrible neighbors, kids ride skateboards and bikes in the hall that echoes awefully. they let any kind of trash move in here. Thalia Gardens is out the get every penny possible from you. DONT MOVE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks good...AT FIRST but STAY AWAY!!!
I actually did some research about the complex before I moved in and my gut told me not to move in, but I loved the placement (near town center) and it didn't seem TOO bad. Little did I know this would be the worst apartment that I'd rented and I had already been in 3 others before this one. The maintenance is hit and miss. Sometimes they'd deliver what I asked, but others it would take multiple calls to get them handle the situation. The office workers are nice and polite enough, but the way they handle everything downright STINKS! THEY LOST ONE OF MY CHECKS and I ended up paying late fees because of THEIR INCOMPETENCE. On top of that, the rental bills were hardly consistent. They also don't give receipts when you pay your bill. Parking is also an issue since there aren't many unnumbered spots. Every time I wanted company over, they had to park far away or wait for someone to leave an unnumbered spot. This is very inconvenient. Also, the neighbors seem to be trashy. One of our neighbors hogged an unnumbered spot for TWO WHOLE MONTHS! 5 months before we had to move out, a neighbor moving in above us started yelling and screaming at his wife threatening to beat her. It got so bad we had to call the cops to settle them down and this was just 3 DAYS AFTER THEY MOVED IN! After that, they settled down but they continued stomped and yelled as if no one else lived near them. Supposedly we had one of the BETTER areas of the complex because we were near the front, but it felt like we had one of the crappier parts. I was so tired of this complex that when they took out some of my deposit after the end of our lease I didn't care, even though the maintenance man said he wouldn't charge anything. I was just glad to be done, however, they left a very sour taste in my mouth so much that I felt the need to go come on this site and warn you before you make a mistake. About the only good thing about this place is the location. The price is pretty cheap, but I like to refer to something my mom always says..."you get what you pay for!"

Military WATCH OUT!
I keep ignoring the bad customer service, lack of interest from the office staff and failure to provide leasing information in a timely matter because it looked like a nice place for the money. When I finally received the leasing information requested I was offered some upgrades for an extra monthly fee. I replied asking for photos of such upgrades and the response was "I do not have any"(first red flag)How are you going to offer a product you can not show to the consumer? When she finally got the photos to me there were only 3.(second red flag) One from the entrance, one took from the bathroom and a far away one from the kitchen. Keep in mind the upgrades were for kitchen and baths cabinets and appliances. How can you make a decision based on this?? Well, still I continue inquiring patiently bc the price was perfect for my budget. I did call the office and spoke to a different person regarding the photos, she said "oh, but I see she did send you some" I guess their understanding about sales and how to present a product to a customer is limited! Finally it was the right time for me to start the application and she confirmed there was a unit available for a week before my moving date. I received an email advising that once our applications were received they will check our credit for approval. I guess that with their limited knowledge they are not aware that if your are using Military Rental Partnership Program you have GUARANTEE ACCEPTANCE WITH NO CREDIT CHECK! This was the last red flag for me. I decided not to push this anymore because it was obviously not working out. Of course I email the such called customer service rep inquiring why they were going to check our credit when there was no need for an unnecessary inquiry but to my "not surprise" I didn t receive a reply. Where you decide to live is a personal decision but my advise will to everyone interested in this place is to be VERY careful. If they make it such a difficult process for you to get in I can not imagine how it would be once you sign the lease.

Loved living here!
I miss my apartment very much! I moved here because I had a friend that I visited often and fell in love... Never had an issue with anything except that when I moved here they only had the apartment size I wanted at the very front of the complex right on the road and in the back by the freeway... I chose the one in the back and yes the freeway was loud but only really if you were outside or had the patio open... Not that bad... Location was great... I was stationed on Norfolk base and wanted to be closer to the beach, this was just perfect, right in between... I had the two bedroom deluxe and never used my shower in the bathroom in my bedroom, I probably could have done just fine with just a two bedroom... I moved in right after they upgraded the kitchens and OMG I loved my kitchen... There was the occasional bigger bug/roach or whatever but hey that is just Virginia... Loved my W/D in the main bathroom, loved the linen closet outside the bathroom and bigger closet right behind the front door... I would recommend a apt on the second floor because you get a lot more natural light in every room... This place will always be my favorite out of 3 apartments I lived in while I was in Norfolk/VaBeach! This place was defintely the best square feet, W/D, DW, and parking for the money...

I would prefer somewhere else to live,,,
Thalia is a nice place to live on the outside, however, management is not the best, there's really no point in assigned parking since people are always in your spot. I don't pay 1,000 a month to have to park down the street. Have had numerous maintenance problems...A/C going out, dryer does not fully dry clothes (takes a couple of hours), garbage disposal barely works..We have called maintenance out to fix but problems keep occuring. Threatning letters of eviction if I did not take a dog cage off of my patio (but when you drive around the complex you can see MANY different apts/townhomes with unauthorized items on patio). When I called and asked about it, they just simply said, well there's too many people to keep track of. Anyway, to sum it up, I definitely think I could have found something better for the price I pay.

I have lived here for a few years. For the cost, I believe you get your money's worth. The manager is wonderful and not the witch many say. The maintenance staff are absolutely wonderful. My only concern is that the maintenance staff do not get the pay which they deserve and they don't get considerable time to turn apartments over. They are rushed which means they have to come out and fix stuff that could have been done with excellence had they been given more time to do it in the first place. They should also get discounts on their rent if they live on the property. SL Nusbaum certainly makes enough money to give them better benefits.

Nasty manager
I found management very rude, but the neigbors were very considerate. The apartments are very roomy and maintenace usually responds in a timely mannger. I was glad to move because I hated dealing with the office, and if you called headquaters to complain or to get help, no one ever returned calls. Think twice before moving here until they change management.

I love my place!
I just renewed my lease for the third year. I love my place. It is so much more space than me and my daughter need. I am a single mother and I have not had one single problem. Then again, I don't go around flashing my things. :) Everytime I call maintenance, they are there either the same day or first thing the next morning. The staff is wonderful and so friendly and helpful. They helped me with everything they could. They even helped me with setting up everything such as payments and arrangments because I was on deployment at the time of my move-in. I wanted something in place once I got home. I can't say enough about how much I love my apartment either. I love the fact that I can have a two bedroom two bath apartment for less than $1000 a month with a washer/dryer already in the apartment and it not look like crap.

wonderful
I have lived at Thalia Gardens for many years and I can't say enough about them. I have never had a problem and if I did, I would go to Laurie, the apartment manager. I have always counted on her and she has never let me down. The apartments are large and roomy and I would challenge anyone to find a nicer community. I know they are old, but they maintain them well.

3 Years and Counting......couldn't be Happier
I have lived in Thalia Gardens for 3 years and Counting. I live in a 1400 sq ft 3 bedroom Apartment with the big patio. I couldn't be happier. The staff is always friendly and ready to anwser questions and help. And the Manager is the best in my book. Since I have lived here they have put in updated play grounds which my 12 year-old son loves. The pool has had a complete makeover. The parking is assigned and there is extra unmarked spots all over. I have never had an issue with parking. The Maintenance here is never a problem. If something breaks or needs fixed 90% of the time maintenance is done same day. The Complex Manager and Staff held a end of Summer Pool party for the Tenants this past year. Very good time, they provided food, drinks and even had a ticket raffel for door prizes. Thalia Gardens is located just a short distance from Town Center. Also near the Pembrooke Mall and all kinds of restaurants and movie theater.

Couldn't be happier
I have lived in this community for over 3 years now and we love it here. The apartments are very large and spacious. They are currently doing some remodeling to the apartments that are fabulous. The grounds are almost always kept in great condition. The office staff has gone thru some changes over the years, and are getting better every year. Maintenance has its act together and do a fantastic job taking care of anything and everything that comes up.

Think hard about this place
I currently live in this community. Only because I am about to leave this area and don't want to go through the hassle of looking for another place. This place will nickle and dime you for every cent they can get (ie pet fees, storage fees, patio fines, and anything else they can make up) They use to provide storage compartments in the building you lived but have since kicked everyone out of those under the pretense that they are removing them to make the building look better. Yet here it is 3 months after they implemented this and yet there the storage units still sit being unused now. All the while they have just built a new storage facility that you can rent for an extra 50 dollars on your lease. I wish there was a word I could use on here to explain lori the office manager. Don't even try to talk to her about a problem she will not listen to you and she does not care. The apartments are very roomy but that is about all this place has going for it....Please think about this one!

No Complaints
My husband, child and I have lived at Thalia for a year now and we love it. The maintenance people are the best. They always fix the few problems we've had right away. They are very professional and always do a great job. The few times we've had to go to the office every one has been very nice. There was a few times we had some issues with teens not from the complex hanging out the hallway but security handled it when called and we have not had any problems since. The price for the apartment quality and size is very reasonable. I've lived in 6 apartment complexes in the Hampton roads area and thalia is by far the best experience we've ever had. If we weren't a military family and had to move we would hands down choose to stay here!

Maintenance Rocks
The maintenance department at Thalia Gardens has always been very nice with quick service whenever I have had a problem, but they went above and beyond for me the past couple of weeks. They worked quickly on my problem and even offered to upgrade my carpet and kitchen appliances and when given a list of things I needed taken care of (I've lived here about 9 years so little things happen), they started on it right away! Bill and Emmanuela (I hope I spelled it right because you rock!) would very respectful and friendly and did a great deal to help me out. As far as the complet itself, I don't think you can find a better price on the size of the apartment in the city. The building have character, the French windows are awesome, and the apartments are very big for the money when compared especially to the newer places being built.

Pretty Decent
We've lived in Thalia Gardens for three years now and we really can't find a better layout for the money. We have about 1100sq/ft in a two bedroom and have wanted to move to downtown Norfolk. Everything around 1100 has a layout where we end up with less usable space, it's crazy. It's like Thalia has a temporal rift where we end up with more room. Oh well. This year we started to have a lot of maintenance problems and they have always come out the day of or the next day to fix. I'd love to move but I cannot find a place with a better $ to sq/ft ratio.

NOTyes and NOT no
Well let me start off by saying that these apartments have great floorplans they are a little pricy, but what do you expect for virginia beach. I have been here for a year and i like but i am not renewing my lease. i think that what really got me was taking the storage away. I dont think that it is fair to take storage but this is not my business and so thats all i have to say about that. Every time i called maintaince they came out that day and fixed my problem. The one thing that made me very angry was that i could not take a shower without being either burned to death or frozen. maintaince has looked at it many times and no one can tell me why it is as it is. Also we had an incident were our car got a great big green sticker on it to be towed. i understand and read in my lease about cars being messed up but geez i pay way more then i make and am struggling no one could work with me so that i could have it towed away instead i had to ask a friend to help me out and pay them back. that was a big load! If the pricing was better and not so strict on rules here then i would have stayed, but i just dont see it as the right fit for me, maybe it willbe for you. And by the way i have never ever seen any buglaries or cars being broken into at all or mine would not be out there. We are in a very safe area. ohh and i really wish that there were ceiling fans and ceiling lights next time i will look at that better.

Stay Away before it's too late!
I've lived in Thalia for 3 Years now and I loved it at first. Then it all went down hill from there. The "water bugs" are the size of your big toe and they are everywhere! You cant walk outside at night without stepping on them. They climb up to the second floor patio even. Now you cant walk from your front door to the car without stepping on a dried up or live earthworm. The playgrounds are filthy and people let their dogs poop all over it without cleaning up after them. My kid has stepped in crap twice and i just did last weekend. The bathrooms have yellow mold growing on the ceiling and the staff just says to clean it with bleach and soap. How inconsiderate of our health. Every appliance in my apartment has broken at some point and time, the heat doesn't half work in the winter and the gas bill is a rip off! The office manager (the skinny white lady who looks like she smokes 5 packs a day and drinks like a fish) is just plain evil! She will never see or speak to you no matter how urgent the request. She just sits in her office on the phone(more than likely chatting about all my children to her girlfriends) and acts like doesn't see you. The only person who will even try to help you is the short chubby lady who sits on the left. They let all sort of trashy low class people move in. The people below me are in a 2 bedroom and I sware there are 6 adults and 2 children living there! People ride around the complex blasting their music at all hours of the night and no one does anything. On top of it all, there has been a fatal shooting, several cars broken into recently and a few recent break and entries! I'm getting the heck out just as soon as I can. It's not worth the price by any means....
