COLD!!!!

I live here for almost 3 years. I don't know what has changed staff I suppose? But when you walk in the office now a days its like you a bother????? No hi how are you, can I help you???? I don't know who the new guy is but he should not be in costomer service at all!!!!!! and the manager never will see you, always in her back office doing what ever??? I pay my rent early and never complain. I should maintenance takes forever to do anything,and when they did decide to come they couldn't locate the key to my apartment???!!!??? Or what ever excuse they have?????? Where is it Thalia???????????

    Military Stay Away

    Horrible money hungry people. If you are in the military, STAY AWAY! They are not military friendly whatsoever. They require 60 days notice for military AND you have to give them your orders before that sixty days otherwise you will get charged an extra month even if you only give them your orders one day late. They are not willing to work with military who are not able to get order sooner. Everyone know the military doesn't work that way. If the military gives you orders to move in say 45 days then Thalia is completely unwilling to compromise. We also had sooo many maintenance problems with this place. They also promised us extra storage when we moved in and never got it because our building for some reason only had three storage bin instead of 4 when the apartment bulding contained 4 apartments. They didn't do anything about it and I wasn't about to put my stuff somewhere where I couldn't lock it like everyone else. They also are super picky about what you have on your balcony. If they don't like the look of your furniture it has to be moved. Oh and the placement of the washer and dryer is horrible! They put it in the bigger bathroom and it's so horribly ventilated that when you dry clothes the bathroom gets completely fogged up and the walled sweat brown no matter how hard I wash them. It was disgusting and had to clean wall everytime I did laundry.

      Witchy manager

      The manager is a witch!! I don't know what crawled up in her and died but it's like she's there to make you miserable. The other people in the office are okay. They keep changing them. I will tell you this---I love the maitenance people. They are so nice. The apt is lovely, big, and money is well spent. I just try to stay out of the office when ever possible. You ask for something and you get big time attitude. I shouldn't have to deal with that when I pay my rent on time every month. Maintenance keep up the good work! Me and my husband are very impressed!

        Lived there for 1.5 Years

        This apartment was okay. I lived there for a almost 2 years. At the beginning it was really great... there were some maintenance problems but they fixed them very quickly. AFter the shooting last spring, however, everything went down hill. I had a major leak in the wall between my front bathroom and kitchen and they had to cut through the wall.. they left my kitchen AND my bathroom in total disgust with moldy dirty water everywhere and I had to clean it up. The waterbugs were an issue - they were like breeding in the siding of my apartment near my balcony. In the summer there were sometimes as many as 20-30 out there in one night... luckily, the maintenance was really good about sending over the exterminator every time I called. The price was really good for the size of the apartment. I don't think I would move back. In my opinion, that entire area is going down hill and the crime rates are increasing. Also, the front office staff is RUDE. I've never dealt with such incompetant, rude people in my entire life. I had nasty conversations with the girls in that office numerous occassions during my stay there.

          Not a great place to live...

          I was hoping this place would be my home for a few years, but will have to move due to so many maintenance issues with my apartment. I've lived here for 11 mos., and have had over 14 work tickets placed for the maintenance staff. These type of work tickets are anywhere from the dishwasher leaking & creating a huge puddle in the kitchen, to water flooding in my bedroom closet after a rain storm. Many of my personal items have been damaged since living here. The only thing nice about living in Thalia Gardens is the large bedroom size, and that it's close to the VA Beach Towne Center. Based off of personal experiences, I would not recommend living here.

            i have lived at thalia my whole life. from growing up there and going through the school system i would not have ever wanted to be anywhere else. i have both lived at a townhouse and in an apartment. yes we did have a few waterbugs now and then, but thats virginia. thalia is great place to raise your children and the staff there is so considerate and fun loving. I remember meeting the maintenance staff and also seeing them having them know my name to say hello. Believe me there have been maintenance concerns over the years, but nothing that was not taken care of. so yes i highly recommend this community to all ages!

              GREAT PLACE TO LIVE

              i was here for 11 years. the bugs are not ROACHES they are waterbugs. 2 different things. roaches infest in the thousands. waterbugs you see 1 or 2 at a time. yes they are huge. but no matter where you live you are gonna have bugs. they shooting was a major event, but nothing like that has ever happened before. yes they may be more expensive, but you are living in the "new downtown" of course rent is going up, all of those properties are going up. for those of you that hate your apartment, try looking at some others, you arent gonna find anything that size for that price. the apartments are HUGE compared to most others in the area.

                Worst Apartments Ever

                I have lived all over the state of Virginia and Ive lived in many apartments and I have NEVER dealt with such horrible management ever. I only stayed there a year and got out as soon as the lease was up. A big problem is the continuous maintenance issues that take forever to get someone to look at, when they finally get there, they usually have to have someone else to come and look at it because they cant fix it-they sent a plumber to fix a sparking outlet and an electrician to fix our disposal-and then when they do get fixed, its usually a quick fix and then you end up calling them back again. The biggest issue I had was when I was looking at the apartments, ------- -- promised me new appliances(in writing) and I never recieved them. Once we paid our deposit and our first months rent, we just got the run around and eventually just put it off onto the maintenance department. I eventually gave up. However, about 4 months before our lease was up, I went into the office to ask for a new dishwasher since it wasnt cleaning the dishes any more, I brought the letter that I had from -------, talked to ------- herself and all she told me was to call maintenance, it was a maintenance issue. I told her it was a 20 year appliance issue and besides that I was promised new appliances when I moved in, I told her I didnt care about the other appliances at this point, just the dishwasher and she said she couldnt do anything about it, to call maintenance. The office manager did come out and did make a copy of the letter but did not call me until later to say they would replace the dishwasher. Then there is the parking issue-we were only allowed on parking spot and on top of the fact that there is hardly any visitor parking, our apartment was across from the maintenance shop and the employees always parked in the visitor spots. Then there is the whole issue about not having clutter on your porches and decks-if they dont consider it to be outdoor furniture, then you cant have it and absolutely no grills allowed either. They dont enforce dogs on a leash either. Even though the location is great, many people use Bonney Rd as a cut through, so that road is always busy and you can hear the traffic from 264. Also there is a hospice type building on the other side of Bonney Road, so you are always hearing the sirens from the ambulances going there. I HAVE HEARD GUNSHOTS NUMEROUS TIMES. Whether they were coming from our apartments or the ones next to us, I couldnt tell you. There is no on site Security so on weekends, it gets pretty loud and crazy. After this experience, I will never rent an apartment that is managed by S.L. Nausbuam, even if it was the only apartment available.

                  Take my advice, RUN dont walk!!!!!

                  Where do I start? Should I start with the bugs, the maintenance, the office staff, or the cheap apartment itself! Bugs every where!!! small flying things like gnats infesting the appointment. Maintenance was soooo sloppy! this guy came to fix my AC, he came with a vaccuum to clean it out after i called to complain on how filthy it was, well he came in vaccuumed, but while ha vaccuumed he left the back off and blew the dust all over my stuff!!! its gets better, he left it just like that. They did a cheap paint job to cover up the mold in my tub!!! it was so disgusting, i dont know what made them think that paint would stand up to daily use of water! The office staff, Oh my gosh!!! they are soooo rude. They had a shooting here last month where a guy went in the office and shot up some people, that happened because of how severely rude they are to the residents!! they do not respect your personal properties!!! they threw away my stuff from down in storage and their explanation was that they got my unit number mixed up with another picture. I had sentimental pictures of my deceased dad in there, and all they did was say OH WELL!!! the walls are very cheap, u can hear your neighbor cough!!! they are very money hungry as they find u fees for any and everything!!! run away from this place!!! oh yeah the best part i had mold growing in my roof panel and was told simply to bleach it. i hate it here and cant wait to move. i broke my lease and will be moving this weekend!!!! run away smart people run!!!!! oh yeah also, your rent will go up every year for this crappy apartment! oh and this is a biggy, my car got broken into twice, when i complained to the office, they told me thats why they require residents to have insurance...

                      Love it here

                      I have lived at Thalia for almost a year now and plan to stay here until i purchase a home. The staff is the most friendly and caring individuals i have met in a long time. You are not just a paycheck to them but a person who they get to know individually. The apartments are huge compared to others in the area, AND THE PRICE IS THE MOST REASONABLE i have found yet. I have read a lot of reviews about bugs in the apartments, but if people learned to keep their place clean, i bet they wouldnt have those issues. The same goes for maintenance and how long people claim it takes them to come over. Can you imagine your a/c going out in your home in the middle of the summer and waiting 2 weeks for someone to come out and repair the problem. I have NEVER waited more than one hour to have my a/c fixed and more than 3 days for any other problem to be taken care of. As far as overpaying and not getting your money back, how would you feel if you worked somewhere and had thousands of dollars laying around your office. Would you feel safe? So thats probably the reason they cant give you back money. Do you think Dominion power refunds overpay? They credit your account for the following month. I truly believe the bitter people that have made nasty comments on this website about Thalia and their staff, are people who have left on bad terms and now live somewhere that makes them more unhappy.

                        Would not live here again

                        I live in a one bedroom and I immediately said "yes" to it, because I was pressed for time when I moved out here. It had a balcony and the sq. ft. was excellent. But little did I know that I would have the problems that I did. I literally was calling maintenance to fix something in my apartment every other week. The diswasher, my washer/dryer, the outlet in my kitchen...it was always something, sometimes the same appliance. They gave me a ventless washer/dryer combo, and it's HORRIBLE, I don't know who created such a thing, but it looked cool at first but its horrible. On a normal cycle it takes 2 1/2 hrs. just to wash!!! When your clothes dries it wrinkles them beyond belief and the drum is super small...I hate it It takes me weeks to get my laundry done. I can't wait till my least is up. But please, by all means move here if you don't mind calling maintenance every week.

                          Don't live there

                          They are not a good place to rent from, if you don't have their quality of patio furniture, you are not allowed to have any. If you over pay your rent, they won't pay you back, they will say something is wrong with your apartment or townhome. There is NO storage at all for the Townhomes. If you have a pet and pay the 300$ deposit, when you move out it does not cover any damages your pet has done, BEWARE OF THAT!!!!!!!

                            Management and maintenance staff are terrible!

                            When I first moved in here, things were ok. They have since gone down hill, way down hill. Because it is now considered "the new downtown", my rent went up $200 in one year! There are roaches from the mulch that they insist on putting down. The management staff is the rudest and most unintelligent I have ever seen. You wonder if they dropped out in grade school. The maintenance staff is another nightmare. Very few speak english and because of that they end up being rude to you. It takes weeks for any of them to fix a maintenence request. My neighbor's hot water was out for 2 weeks before it was fixed! I would never recommend this place. I can't wait until my lease is up.

                              i hate this place

                              the area doesn't look too bad when you first get here. but i have living here. i've been here since feb and have had problems ever since. since june i've been complaining about mold in the walls, wet carpet,and huge roaches. it's ugly. maintencance dept is the worst.

                                Bugs Bugs Bugs

                                This building is old and they finally change the windows. I stayed in the complex near the interstate and was very upset they chose to do my building almost last to change the windows. There are bug everywhere and the worst are the roaches. These things are so big that you have to step on them like five times before they die. I have a roommate and parking is very limited in the back. Most of the time we have to walk a long distance. The building is poorly constructed. The master bedrooms bathroom is the side of a highschool locker and in the other bathroom the door can't open all the way. It hits the toilet. I complain of water stains on the ceiling and they came to check it and left a note that it was dry. Thats wasn't the problem. We have been here for almost a year now and will be happy when the lease is up.

                                  Money Hungry

                                  I had put a deposit down here and was all ready to move in. The location was geeat and size of the apartment was nice. Besides, the complex itself has some great features. And they allow pets and myhusband and I could finally get a puppy. The last place we were at didn't allow them. We added the pet fees to our rent and it was in our price range, barely but we decided to do it anyways. So, we put the deposit down and in the meantime, put a deposit on a puppy we'd get as soon as we moved in. Well, they decided to increase pet fees to a ridiculous $300 non-refundable fee from $275 and add $50 a month to rent, it was $25. This put the rent out of our price range and they refused to give us the prices we were told when we put the deposit down becasue at the time we didn't have the dog. So since we can't afford it and they were not caring enough to give us the older prices, we told them we weren't moving in and we deserve our deposit back since it's not our fault we can no longer afford the place. They refused and also threatened to charge us for lost time that they need to find new tenants to occupy it. Please, they ahve waiting lists god's sake! So we got a lawyer and they can't charge us a dime since there is no signed lease and we're still working on the deposit which we may or may not get. They are trying to discourage pets, why didn't they tell us the before! Plus, they charge for gas. I am so glad we aren't moving there now there.

                                    Used to be ok, but now it's terrible

                                    I moved here in 2002, and I'm leaving at the end of this month. When I first got here, things were ok. Gas was included, the neighborhood was alright...but there's a new manager in town...and a new Town Center. This new manager has kicked out about half of the old renters, because she's money hungry..and because of the new town center, she can overcharge for these old apartments. They have taken the trash out of the hallways, which is understandable, but they have replaced them with large dumpsters all around the parking lot. They promised to build white fences around them, but never delivered. She also decided to install gas meters and to start charging for gas. In 4 yrs, my rent has increased by 200!!! AND I have to pay for gas! (sometimes as much as 80!) I do NOT recommend this complex to ANYONE. Maintainence doesn't speak english, and they don't respond to calls. When they do, they tell you themselves how horrible these apartments are!

                                      Right next to the ------!!

                                      This place is located right next to the ------. Random gun shots. Loud music late at night. Rowdy teens. Enough said. The rental staff is ignorant and rude! <br>There are massive roaches because they live in the mulch that they use around the apartments. The staff is completely aware of this and continue to use it and press it directly up against the apartments. I called five months ago about 3 maintenance issues and not one of them has been fixed. I'm sure that sounds like an exaggeration, but trust me, it is not. I have called 3 times and was told that there are alot of apartments and they would get to it when they could. They also change things without telling the residents. Two of the main reasons I moved into these apartments was for the charming french doors and the fact that there were none of those hideous, huge dumpsters spread around the property. Both of those things have changed within the last few months with no notice. There are ugly green dumpsters around the property that regulary have trash scattered all around them. I went to the convenience store in the neighborhood 2 weeks ago and it had been robbed 5 minutes before I got there. Don't move here.

                                          AWFUL! DON'T DO IT!

                                          The "water bugs" are indeed a memeber of the roach family, while not a german cockroach, they are still a roach. We had HORRIBLE experiences in our short time here. When we opened the door to our "new" apartment, we walked in to an unclean home and yes, a "roach" turned over dead on its back in the kitchen floor. Hair was excessive in both bathrooms. The kitchen floor was never cleaned, cobwebs were clinging from the bottom of the cabinets. The stove was filthy. The dishwasher literally had trash, including aluminum foil in it. <br><br>Talk about unsafe -- two weeks ago 2 men in shorts, no shirts, and what appeared to be a paint was on our balcony at 8 am in the morning. They were identified by security as construction workers although we had no written notification of any work done. When the rental office was contacted to file a complaint we were told that no construction was being done on our side of the complex. <br><br>Just recently our bathroom sink literally fell away from the wall, hot water poured everywhere. To this day, we have not been contacted by the rental office and no other housing arrangements were made for us.<br><br>BUYER BEWARE!!! DON'T DO IT!!!

                                            Nice sized space but HUGE ROACHES ARE REGULAR!

                                            The space is a nice size for the money but I could not handle the roaches here. I kept my place ---- and span, but they were regular visitors to my place!! And these aren't small roaches either...they're HUGE, GROSS AND UGLY! I kept a few containers of Raid around. Maintenance would spray when I asked them to, but the roaches are still coming. YUCK! This is an old building though..built in 1970. The balconies are big and there's nice french doors & windows. So if you're ok with bugs...and want more space than other aptartment, this would be up your alley.

                                              Unsafe! Dont live here

                                              I moved to Thalia Gardens from out of state. I found it on the internet and had to trust the pictures and info without seeing it for myself. The office staff was very helpful, they were always very very nice to me especially at move in but for the apartments themselves, no way would I recommend it to anyone. Everything about the apartment is old and not up to date. The dumpster is always over flowing and people throw their trash right next to it. There's two trash closets to each complex and when someone stole one of the trash bins, the trash pick up people would not get the trash because it was not in a bin. So when one bin got full of trash, the neighbors threw their trash in the empty closet and it never got picked up. Well I shared a wall with that closet and huge flies and knats were coming into my apartment. I was killing 50 flies a day and I lost count on the knats! I had 2 small toddlers so that was unhealthy as the flies would sometimes get into their food. I called the office and they kept telling me they would get someone to take the trash but it took a couple weeks to do so. I got an exterminator who tried to tell me the flies were common houseflies. I made him go outside to the trash bins and he finally admitted they were coming from there. I refused to take my trash out to my bins as there were swarms of flies so I would walk to another complex to drop it off. Even when we moved out, the flies and knats weren't completely gone. <br><br>Crime is another issue. I think my neighbor tried to break into my guest's car as I heard her alarm go off and him running past my bedroom window to his apartment. I also saw his friend eyeing my car one night and he kept bumping against it and looking in the windows. There were quite a few nights where gunshots were heard and one night in particular where the shooter was walking the sidewalk by my apartment. I could never sleep at this place, mostly because my upstairs neighbor apparently never slept either as there were creaking footsteps and loud thuds ALL NIGHT but also because I worried for our safety. A lot of shady teens roam the property as well, we even saw a big fight one night when we were going out. One of them once tried to get in our apartment. I heard someone trying keys in my door and when I looked through the peephole, it was a teenager that I've seen many times walking the property. I called security and they tried to convince me that they probably had the wrong apartment. Yeah whatever. <br><br>In closing, I would NOT recommend living here especially if you have children to worry about. I thought with the rent being a bit higher than others, that it was a better place. But I've learned that you can't judge by how much you're paying. <br><br>

                                                have children? love the pool? then beware!!!!

                                                Families beware of your lack of pool time if you have children! 15 minutes of every hour is Adult Swim at the pool so all age children run for the toddler pool to kill the time. OH but if your child of any age heads for the toddler pool, dont' think you get to enjoy adult swim because you must be in the toddler pool area supervising. <br> <br>Whats worse is Tuesdays & Thursday nights is adults only so the pool closes an hour early for children and then Wednesday night is Teens only night, pools closed on Monday. <br> <br>I watched as the lifeguards had to clear all the adults and families out of the pool area for teen night so 2 teenagers could have it all to themselves. Funny, when the teens start paying the rent then maybe they deserve an hour to themselves! <br> <br>OH did I mention there is no "children only time". Why not give 15 minutes every hour dedicated to the children & parents to allow pool toys during that time, like pool noodles etc. Of course no pool toys or anything of that kind is allowed at anytime! <br> <br>So as a pool lover and a mother - I am getting a little mad that I can enjoy the pool until it closes on those hot summer nights afterwork - have to save it for the weekends I guess or pay for a babysitter! <br> <br>For a complex with 4 or 5 run down playgrounds for the kiddies to suck you in when you rent, they sure don't want to be fair around the pool! <br> <br>I called and did a survey of other apartments and was told they don't do this because it is against fair housing laws - someone should inform Thalia Gardens. <br>
