Big Waste of Money - Can't Wait to Move
These apartments are horribly constructed, and the resident manager is there only to get a paycheck. She's basically a worthless idiot, and that sentiment is shared by many friends I have who live there. The past 6 months have been spent paying for a lake view apartment when all I can see is scafolding and immigrant workers repairing substantial damage to 5 year old buildings caused by inferior construction and water damage. Parking has been a nightmare because of the constant construction equipment and debris containers in the lot. I have had two nails in my tires from the construction.

Resident Manager will NOT enforce rules, especially noise rules. I was told by the manager that they do not have a courtesy officer because Colonial is too "Cheap" to get one, and that I should call the police to handle constant noise issues from my upstairs neighbor, which I did. City of Vestavia witnessed noise and has cited my neighbor and the property for constant and willful violation of the noise ordinance.

Low and behold, I arrived home eysterday to find a notice on my front door stating that Colonial will be taking possession of my unit on Dec. 18th and will not be renewing my lease. I have never broken a community rule, nor have I been late on rent.

The bottom line - the construction and noise insulation is horrible. The manager is very good at talking out of both sides of her mouth, saying that she will take care of an issue, but having no intention of doing so. This property was beautiful when it was first built, but has been run into the ground. Frankly, December 18th won't get here soon enough for me.

FAIRLY NICE
I pretty much enjoyed the time living here. The office staff was very nice. Their description says they're a "gated community" but the gates worked probably 5 nights out of a year....seriously. I felt very safe walking around at night. My neighbors above me would BLAST their music at all hours of the night and morning. I would call and complain, but the security never responded. The pool is very nice. People let their dogs "use the bathroom" in the grass in front of the apartments, which is rediculous. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here, besides the constant noise!!!

Not too Bad.
The apartment NOISE was AWFUL, floors must be paper thin. Buisness center not adequate as they want you to believe. GATE ALWAYS BROKEN! Might as well remove it. Snotty neighbors. The cable is always going out, took over a year before they got rid of a subpar satelite you rent channels from them with. Pool was nice, grounds were clean, apartments were very simple for the asking price. Part of town is nice, very safe. It´s not the worst place at all I´ve seen or lived in, but for the money in the BIRMINGHAM area I´ve had much nicer places.

Deluxe Location - Below Average Apartments
Liberty Park is a wonderful neighborhood nested in Vestavia Hills. It offers a top-notch elementary school and picturesque landscape. The Colonial Grand Apartments would appear to be ideal apartment living for the new tenant, however it is not. The apartments are poorly constructed. Items such as: Poor sound barrier walls, molding and poor trash services are just a few items to consider. The only trash compactor, which is located at the main entrance, is constantly breaking resulting in huge piles of trash at the entrance to the apartment complex.
The business center offered by the complex is poorly maintained. None of the computers work properly and the only copier is constantly out-of-order.
The workout facility is fair if the doors to it cooperate.
The bathrooms at the pool area are never equipped with soap or necessities. If you?re considering a renting the clubhouse for a party, remember to bring your own supplies.
Also, there is a noise curfew after 10:00 PM on the weekends, so your party will have to end early
The gas grill at the pool had never worked properly and neither has the car wash facilities. The maintenance staff, which is extremely slow in attending to apartment requests, has failed to fix any item requested properly.
If you have kids, forget about them being able to play anywhere in the apartment complex. It resembles a retirement community with the number of complaints an afternoon game of hopscotch can result in.

The management staff doesn?t seem to mind the deficiencies and for an average cost of $1200 a month you can enjoy the many amenities.
Poorly made
Maintenance has been great but the apartment is shifting. Doors don´t lock and very, very very buggy and muddy. New carpet put down is already bubbling in places. Security was one of my main issues and the gate has yet to go down in the entrance!!! Very average but not well made and insulation is non existant. Have lived here 4 months and will be moving out in 2 months to a quieter place.

I loved this place
I got a great deal on my rent with this complex. Talk to the manager. especially if you have competitive offer from a similar complex. I got about $150 off the list price of my apt.

Maintenance was always done the day I requested it, before I got home from work. initially there were problems with a new staff member, but she was let go. After that, the staff was very good and willing to help. (also very apologetic about the problems I had encountered with the previous staffer). The apartments are a good size, at least my 1 bedroom was: 815 sq. ft. the apartments don´t "look" like traditional apartments. It was much more "home-like" than some others I´ve lived in.

Overall, the area is beautiful. A restaurant, coffee shop, bank, dry cleaner and pharmacy are all less than 3 miles away. It is away from most things, but once you learn the back roads through Cahaba Heights (Overton Road is your friend), you can get anywhere pretty quickly Winn Dixie, the Summit, Mt. Brook. I think the peacefulness of the area makes up for its lack of nearby conveniences.
dont move here
I am moving out of this place at the end of the year. I have not enjoyed living here at Liberty Park. You have to call the office at least 6 times before they will come and fix your stuff. When I first moved in the pipes in my building exploded and they had to start ripping up bathtubs and walls to fix the problem. It was wierd being that these apartments were only like 2 years old then. Now it has just got worse. The buildings are made with drivet or stucco and that will propbaly start falling off in another year or so. And as far as the insulation goes, there is not any. Forget about peace and quiet. The office staff is OK, just depends on who quit and who is new. They change people so much, you never know who you will meet. They charge way tpp much money for these apartments. I have lived here going on 3 years and they have increased my rent close to 100 bucks just in that time frame. Just make sure that you are making the right decision when thinking about moving in here, I will help you, DONT. You can rent a house or buy a large diamond for this price.

Horrible and so not worth the MONEY
I Live here currently, well for at least one more week. I Agree that the area is nice, to bad the apartments don´t make it worth it to stay here. They are cheaply made. Don´t be fooled by the ameneties. They don´t make up for the lack of service. Getting maintenence here is like pulling teeth. The office staff will promise you one thing and then turn around and tell you something else. The apartments are way to small for the amount of money you pay. We are moving into a townhome in the same area of town for a cheaper price! In my building alone, five couples are moving. MY ADVICE, LOOK ELSEWHERE.

typical apartment life
I thought this would be best understood if I further explained the features listed in the brochure for Colonial Grand´s "feature property" in Birmingham.

COMMUNITY
* Vestavia Schools - a wonderful plus to living here if you have children in public school
* Controlled access gates - close at 8ish in the evening - I´ve noticed they open and close randomly with no one entering or leaving
* Fitness center with children´s playroom - standard work out room for apartments with a small room for children to watch t.v.
* Sparkling pools - really only one pool and one wading pool the size of a hot tub
* Internet cafe - gas station style coffee machine containing less than gas station quality coffee
* Boardroom - no comment, never used it personally
*Playground - for small children, same area as dog walk area (poop scooping not enforced)
* Cappuccino bar - (same as internet cafe above)
* Lighted tennis court - yes
* Pooliside pavilion - yes
* Private lake - yes, some apartments can face the lake (I was unable to get one.)
* Screened in veranda - yes, can be rented for parties
* Mountain bikes - yes
* Paddleboats - yes, be sure to bring a bucket to bail out water

HIGH-TECH
* High speed internet access - cable internet through media works available
* Digital Cable TV - no!
* 4 line phone capability - I´ve not personally checked
* Pre-wired home-theater surround sound - two speakers built into living room wall
* Individual intrusion alarms - yes, set to chime - not connected to police, fire or ambulance
* Entry gates with video monitoring - see controlled access gates above, camera not clear enough or set correctly (They could fix this.)
* Remote control access: entry gates, garages, fitness center and internet cafe - yes, but tape over "internet cafe" door so remotes are not needed

SERVICE
* Door to door trash valet - extra charge, fine if you do not request ahead of time
* Service by Sundown - only emergencies gauranteed by the end of the day
* Car care center - not your normal hose but instead a pay for car wash!
* Concierge Service - extra charge

COMFORT
* Gas log fireplaces available - some floorplans
* Screened-in patios available - downstairs only
* Washers and dryers included - actually mandatory, you may not use your own
* Microwaves included - yes
* Ceiling fans included - only in master bedroom and living room (other bedrooms do not even have over head lights)
* Private garages - attached or detached - yes, obviously extra charge

DETAILS
* 9 foot ceilings - yes
* French doors - yes, nicer than sliding glass doors but leads to a lack of windows here
* Crown molding - yes, minimal
* Tile foyers - yes
* Chair rail - yes, in dining room
* Vaulted ceilings available - yes, obviously only top floor
* Six panel doors - yes

Overall, this is a very average apartment at an above average cost.

Wonderful place to live!
We have lived here for over a year now. The front office staff is amazing, always helpful, very friendly. Our apartment is very energy efficient; we´ve had no problems with any maintenence issues. Overall, a delightful living experience.

Great!!!!
This place is great! Probably the best place is birmingham to live. You are only about 2 miles from the interstate. The office staff is awesome and so is the maintenance! I feel very safe here. I walk very late at night and have never been uncomfortable or nervous. I never lock my front door and most of the time my car is not locked and the sunroof is open. I feel as safe here as I did when I was living at home with my parents!! The amenities are great too. Coffee every morning & continental breakfast! Pool, grill, lake, paddle boats, carwash, play ground, business center, fitness center, 5 hole putting green, what more you could you ask for!?!

This place is great!!
I have lived here for several years. In these few years I have seen many changes for the better. The noise level here is nonexistant, the residents are very courteous and the new staff is on top of maintenance concerns. This is probably the safest area I have looked at in my search for a Birmingham apartment. Anyone would love to live here.

Currently here
I have just renewed my lease here for another year. I think it´s in a great area, and it´s nice to be away from all of the traffic and noise. It´s very quiet, and the staff is friendly. I used to live in Atlanta, and this is a HUGE bargain compared to Atlanta prices for a lot less of an apartment. I recommend it to anyone who isn´t a cheapskate.

Don´t waste your money
I lived in the apartments when they were first built, while our house was being built. At that time the apartments and grounds were well maintained, the office staff were friendly and the management had activities for the residents such as dinners, morning coffee, etc.

The noise level in the apartments was high. We could hear our neighbors on all sides. When you use the hot water the pipes knock.

We sold our house and moved back into the apartments. The maintenace is lousy, the grounds are only kept up in the office area. The noise level is still bad.

I do not recommend anyone consider this location, unless you just want to live in Liberty Park.
couldn´t feel more like home
When I moved here in 2001 I felt like I was always on vacation.My 5 yr.old daughter tells me she loves it better than any house she´s lived in,which are actually quite a few. The property is beautiful and the maint. crew is always on top of things, I didn´t have to wait more than an hour anytime anything needed fixing! The office staff is on a first name bases with me and apparently a lot of other residents. And who wouldn´t absolutely fall in love with their 24/7 gym & the surroundings are unbeatable

The interstate overpass is better than here!
They advertise amenities and then renig on the "sale pitch". The lake has no fish, the computer room is not 24/7. The maintenance man is a "peeping Tom". Save your money, this place is terrible! The property manager (a woman) is dating the maintenance man (man). This is a problem due to the fact that the maintenance man spends his time flirting with the property manager instead of working on the apartments. The pool tile is loose and very dangerous. "Copperhead" snakes get in the pool at night and are present until they are scared by swimmers.

in the middle of nowhere
I rented here a year ago when I first moved to Alabama. If I would have known that I had to drive 10 miles to go anywhere! My stay here was no pleasing either. The staff is not responsive, and half the time there not even in the office. I really wouldnt reccomend living here, only if you like seclusion.

If I knew what I do now after living here, I would choose another place.
The apartments are very nice; however, the management is hard to deal with and seem to be on a power kick. They are constantly involved in the tendants business. I would definately choose another place to live where the ammenities are nice and the management is cooperative. For the money you are spending here ($760.00 for a one bedroom) it seems as if you would be treated better.

Billed as premium living when it´s not
I lived here temporarily. The apartment was advertised as an upscale rental. The units were poorly insulated and noise traveled easily. There were no trails for walking despite being in the "rustic" Liberty Park area. The office staff was unprofessional as were the maintenance employees. By Birmingham standards, the rent was high and not worth it.

Overpriced
Liberty park is pretty from afar but cheaply built and wayyy too expensive. The maintenence is ok, but the office staff is unprofessional. I think the only reason they are so high priced is b/c of the ameneties! :( not a good expererience. I only suggest these if you plan on using all you pay for b/c the apts not worth it.
