very satisfactory experience
We have had a good experience renting here and we are moving out only because we've bought a place. The grounds are kept green, maintenance is prompt, office folks pretty nice and no hassle. The apts are truely roomy. The fitness centers the nicest I've seen in Tempe apts of this price range. The pool and hot tub are also very nice. There a lot of dog owners so if you are weary of dogs, that might be an issue for you. The apt was very comfortable in the winter months, but I cannot attest to the summer living experience(the walls do not seem very insulate) It is very convenient with the Orbtiz stopping right at the door step that takes you to campus and Mill Ave. and the 72 going to downtown scottsdale is a block a way. Safeway and Walgreens is withing walking distance. School is 10 minute bike ride away. Good place for student living and young couples.

Relatively good for the money
On the bright side, Desert Palm Village is very close to ASU, which helps me as a college student. The fitness centers are really nice with the usual workout equipment and a sauna and hot tub. The apartments are fairly spacious - they were the biggest we found for the same price when looking last year. I wish that wouldn't have played into my decision so much though. The neighbors are great, generally a mixed group of college students and young adults with kids. The maintenance guys are really nice as well, despite all the plumbing problems they've had to deal with. Our apartment flooded 5 or 6 times throughout the last year. The immediate neighborhood, specifically the two apartment complexes to the west before Rural, isn't the safest, and there have been a couple of major burglaries and a stabbing over there in the last 6 months. Because of the terrible housing market the last couple of years, every available housing option has seen an increase in monthly rent and utilities. For a 9 month lease, rent is $816/month for a 2-bed/2-bath apartment. That does not include any of the utilities. Electric will run you $180/mo. in the summer but only around $30/mo. in the winter. DirecTV, the only option for cable, offers crappy packages, starting at $55/mo. which includes about 100 home-shopping channels along with the 9 or so my roommate and I watch. We just decided to disconnect our cable because the deal sucks so much. Consolidated Smart Systems, based out of California, provides the internet, which also rips us off for about $40/mo. The service always cuts out whenever there's a storm between here and CA. The girls who work in the main office are generally unhelpful and not hard workers. I went in to say that there was no way to change the televisions in the fitness center, and one of them said they didn't have a remote and that it had been a problem for awhile. Well what are you doing to fix the problem?! The same thing happened when the water dispensing machine broke - I went in to tell them, and the girl said, "Yeah I think there's a number on it. You can call that." Why don't you call it?! Overall, compared to friends' places, Desert Palm Village is really average to poor in the service and quality of the apartments, but it's one of the best bargains around. If it weren't for the rest of the market being expensive, I wouldn't recommend it. I'm freaking astounded that upwards of $950 a month is cheap for a 2-bed/2-bath though...

The review below mine was written by managment
This place is basically a dump, it is not gated so whoever wants to walk through can just come on in, the managment is in general very, very, very bad. After you sign your contract they could give a damb about you, your apartment, or anything going on in the community. There are much better, safer, nicer places in tempe for around the same amount of money. General advice: Dont Move Here

WOW... where do these people live? I LOVE IT HERE
Can't say anything bad about the place. Management is very helpful and maintenace is great!! The clubhouse is awesome. We have FREE access to computers, fitness center and the cool club house! I would and do recommend it to my friends... oh and I get money for doing that... like $200 or something like that!!

More Cons Than Pros
I have lived in Desert Palm Village for a year and a half now. This is not because I wanted to, but I just don't want to deal with the hassle of moving to another apartment, I'll wait until I can afford a house. Pros: - They had the clubhouse entirely renovated recently and the crappy exercise room with the broken treadmill and other broken equipment is gone. They have very nice equipment like all new weight machines, treadmills, bikes, elliptical, they have little plasmas to watch (not that I do), pool tables, table tennis, a spa, nice bathrooms w/ saunas (though the saunas are kind of crappy). - The apartment is decently spacious and has ample closet room. The balcony is nice too. It's comfortable enough to live in. Cons: - I wouldn't say the managers are VERY rude, but I would say they can be slightly rude at times. They are very incompetent. I was told I didn't pay rent and was going to be evicted when I did, I was told my lease was expiring before it was, I asked them to renew my lease and I was told I'd receive a call and instead I received a letter weeks later talking about my lease expiring as if they had no idea I asked to renew it, they like to close the office when it's supposed to be open and I need to pay rent. Also, when I wanted to renew my lease they raised my rent and they didn't offer me anything or even sound very thankful. Sometimes they like to rush you and not really let you talk and most of the time they seem very absorbed in their own lives. - Shortly after I first moved into the apartment my air conditioning went out and it was the middle of the summer. They took a few days to fix it, which was torture, so I had to evacuate to my parents' house. Later on when I mentioned it in the office a girl there said they sound have temporarily let me stay in another apartment. GEE, thanks for letting me know now! The a/c went out again a little over a year later and we had to have maintenence guys come more than once because the first time they just claimed it was the filter. The ancient thermostat must've been too difficult to deal with because we came home one day finding a nice new one... they entered without permission. Also, my friend who lived in my apartment before me led me to believe that there was something seriously wrong in the apartment (I wont get specific to remain anonymous) and when I asked in the office about it the girl sounded very mean and said that I should have mentioned it in the walk-through (which they never had me do!) and basically anything that was wrong with it would be my problem unless I took actions against my friend. They couldn't contact her themselves for some reason, and they didn't correct the wrong in not doing a walk-through. This lady knew I had never rented an apartment before and she sounded SO much nicer when I signed the lease. Turns out I was able to fix the problem myself luckily. They didn't even try to make sure that the apartment was in decent shape before I moved in though just because I was taking over the lease. - Getting any packages delivered is a pain because they don't notify you when they come in most of the time and you just need to keep asking them in the office. I get all of my packages delivered to my parents' house now since they live close-by to avoid this pain. - The dishwasher in my apartment is ancient and I have to wash all of my dishes by hand. I asked the managers to replace it but they just tred to fix it when it really needs to be replaced. The maintenence guy came 15 min before the latest time he was supposed to come and by then I had just left. The paint of the bathtub walls is peeling. The walls/front door are so thin, my downstairs neighbors are always annoyingly pounding at me (not blasting music or anything, just trying to live) and I can hear EVERYTHING that goes on outside of my front door (and everyone outside can hear inside). It's true that the electric bill is really high, as the other reviews state. I never had an apartment before this one, so I thought it was normal until I read those. The laundry rooms suck because the washing machines and dryers are usually broken and the dryers are always broken. Other tenants get impatient and put your laundry on top of the machine so they can do theirs. - They obviously don't look very hard regarding cleanliness when re-renting an apartment out because I happened to move my refrigerator to locate the source of an ant problem and found the floor underneath and the wall behind entirely covered in black sludge. I really wish I had taken a picture before cleaning it. - They don't bother to put your parking spot near your apartment and tenants have a habit of parking in the uncovered areas because of that, leaving less parking available for visitors. Neutral: - For probably about half a year they did renovations on the office and temporarily moved their office to an apartment. This was slightly inconvenient, especially for getting mail, but I managed. I can't really say for sure whether it was their fault or the construction company's. - Taking groceries home sucks because the stairs don't lead to the parking lot and you have to go all the way around, but it at least this could make things a bit safer in terms of theft. I haven't had any huge security problems as of yet... My liscence plate was stolen from my car. It seems like someone could have been trying to break into my car's trunk, especially since the electric lock mysteriously broke, but I'm not 100% sure.

Not so bad
I lived at Desert Palm for 2 years (2004-2005), and overall I really liked my apartment. I agree w/ the other reviewers that the management/office staff are not the friendliest, most competent people. But, quite honestly, I almost never had to deal with them. My apartment was very cute and had an amazing amount of closet space. I am a single female and I always felt very safe while living there. I was also a student at ASU, and loved the convenience of walking to class everday. Especially, since parking costs have increased astronomically over the years. Your experience at Desert Palm can depend greatly upon the decency of your neighbors. Toward the end of my second lease a guy moved into the apartment below me and blasted rap music at all hours of the night. I also had some new neighbors move into the apartment next to me that cooked every meal using an insane amount of curry, and the odor crept into my apartment and stayed there for the remaining period of my lease. The gym and the laundry room are awful. The pools are decent and are kept clean. If you are a student at ASU who is only planning on living here for a couple of years, I think you will find it to be a positive experience overall.

Bad bad bad....
The people in the office is the most rude I have ever dealt with. The place is falling apart and under permanent construction. There is no security. My car was stolen and my bike too. I made the mistake to recommend the place to a friend at the beginning of my stance and his bike was stolen the day he moved! I hope I can make it up for that with this post.

2 Years of Hell
We lived here for 2 years and I would never recommend this place to anyone. We were broken into, during the middle of the day mind you, and the office staff didn't give a crap. Don't get me wrong, the maintenance people quickly fixed our window and door, but the fact that they didn't care in the office pissed me off. Then there's the constant noise. The walls are so thin that you hear everything outside and people can hear what's going on inside your apartment. We had noisy kids that lived by us and were constantly running around, screaming and slamming doors. The office staff did nothing. The girls in the office were incompetent. Just trying to get a package was a nightmare, because they could never find it. The electric bills are unreal. During the summer expect to pay $250 - $300 for a 2 bedroom. Not kidding. I know people who own houses who pay less than that. The fixtures are old, our dishwasher would run for 2 hours, and not even dry the dishes. We had ants, cockroaches, and the people that lived on the north side had scorpions. The pool areas were nothing spectacular, the neighbors had sewage back up into their apartment, and you really have no privacy. And don't even get me started on the laundry facilities. The washers never worked, the dryers rarely dry your clothes, and some even suck your socks and unmentionables into the lint trap. The happiest day of my life was when we moved out of this hell hole. And of course the day we signed our 30 day notice, the office staff asked why we would want to leave. Um, I think I just listed quite a few reasons why.

Electric way 2 high
Living here for 8 months now and thank God the lease was only 9 months! The Electric was over 300 a month in summer! Management sent a package back to sender without calling 2 let me know it was in the office. That cost me over $200.00. Now to boot there are Scorpins in the apt. I 2 keep a clean house

This place is awful
I lived here for 7 months and I would not recommend it. My apartment was infested with scorpions - and I keep a clean apartment! In the 14 years I lived in Tempe, I never came across an apartment that harbored the number of scorpions as this place. My refridge was breaking down and I had to complain for 5 months before they replaced it - they just sent maintenance to fiddle with it for the 1st 4 calls. The electricity bill is ridiculously expensive here. In a one bedroom apartment, my power bills avged $200 - again NEVER in my 14 years in Tempe did I run up more than $110 in electricity in a month. The lights in the back parking area where I had my assigned spot were constantly turned off - this is a high auto theft and break-in area. I never felt safe coming in at night. I also had a huge hole in my roof from a leaking ceiling from the last renters, which the management had patched in the most amateurish manner - it was hideous but it didn't leak. They replaced all the balconies after my 1st month, and painted the buildings. I never had a problem with the management being rude.

Not good at all
My biggest complaint with the apartment was that for a 2bed/1bath. My electric bill (with conservative usage) was over $250 during the summer. The complex is not located in the best part of Tempe. My car was broken into twice. Also, from my experience (and my neighbors), I would guess that the 4.0 rating and comments given to this apartment was from an employee of the complex.

Grow up!
All of you are just bored and don't have a social life & the only thing to do is to type blogs! Why is the staff rude to you? Maybe because everytime they see you, you're whining about something being different from Mommy and Daddy's place! Maybe you should just have them buy you a house! Maybe you should attempt to treat them like human beings....sometimes maybe it does take them some time to order parts or to get ahold of your new numbers...I could go on! You sure love the staff when you've blown all your rent money on weed and beer and want them to waive the late fees or give you a credit! How about the people who complain about the bugs? Try being cleaner????! Ever heard of that? Bugs thrive on filth & spilled beer! As for the stray cat? Please...What part of stray do you not understand? The city doesn't just come and pick up animals if they can't find them! (Isn't that what they told you? Priddy-Kiddy?)Ceiling leaks? Then why do you ----- because they wake you up with repairs? Patios? Pahlease??? Someone complains about a patio????????

AWFUL DO NOT LIVE HERE
I have lived here for 9 months and i still have 3 to go.. when i first moved in, in january, the place smelled like cat urine BAD i couldnt move in . i insisted that they replace my carpet, and the management ARGUED with me that it was already new, which it definately was not.then they apologized and a stray had ruined the inside.. so they fixed it. in february there was a rain storm, the first rain since i moved in and my roof leaked.. BAD the ceiling turned brown and chunks of popcorn ceiling fell down and when i came home from my best friends wedding the next day everything was soaked, and my cat was trying to eat the popcorn. i notified the management that night and they said they would take care of it. 2 days later i had surgery and was at my parents houe for a week, when i came home, NOTHING had been done. a week later they tore down my patio (they were replacing all of them) which, had an ennomous hole in it to begin with, then when they built me a new one i couldnt get into my outside closet. almost every week since ive moved in i have had to call for a work order, which usually takes days to get fixed, and sometimes they come in and do NOTHING about the problem, say theres nothing wrong, and leave. this summer my roof leaked... again.. aparently they didnt fix it in FEBRUARY. they told me it was fixed and i was content, until 3 weeks ago when my roof leaked AGAIN it is the end of august at this point and today, three weeks later, i still have popcorn ceiling that falls down everytime it rains and nobody has come to check my roof, or repair or repaint my brown chunking ceiling.. small things ALWAYS break.. there is a stray cat that wanders outside the building... i often find it on my patio, this cat actually attacked my neighbor and she was sent to the hospital, and they refuse to do anything about this. i come home almost every night to find this stray peeing on my patio or front door.. when i talked to management the head manager said (and i quote) "can you trap it?" i said no, it bit my neigbor im not going to try.. then she said "well.. here, next time its on your patio, go boil up some water, and then scald the hell out of it"

now they say that they need to move me to another apartment to fix my roof. i dont have the money or time to do this, as i am a full time student, i work , and i work for a theatre company..... i would never recomend this place to ANYONE

it is overpriced, and not worth the time, or effort

Management is horrible!!!
Hi
i have lived in Desert palm village for more than a year now. I regret signing a second lease with them. For the first year i was living with my roomates and didnot have to deal with the horrible and rude management they have. So i thought it might be a good place to live. But then came the second year and i signed my lease...(caution read the whole lease when you are signing). The people over there will tell you to initial it and summarize each
paragraph...dont beleive them ...read it yourself. Now i am stuck for a year and dont know what to do. I was told i had to give a specific amount of rent each month which was around 600$ after being prorated. But every month i have to go to their office and argue with the rude management about why they are asking me rent close to 700$. Man...i regret it but i think its my fault. The word of advice.Read the lease and understand it. Sometimes the management at IMT dont know anything.

Yeah, this place is crappy. I saw that same drug dealer come to my door! Only, I bought from him and his stuff was crap! I'm just kidding, it was ok stuff. But seriously, don't live here, unless you use or sell drugs, if you do, come on in neighbor!

honestly stay away
I have lived in DPV for three years in two different apartments. It is by far the worst place I have ever lived. Everyone else is telling the truth about the office staff, they are the biggest bunch of cheats, liars, scam artists. One of the office girls refused to give me a package because she said it wasnt for me. I HAD MY ID AND MY NAME WAS ON IT!!!! i had to explain how packages are addressed to people. She thought that because the package came to the office, it belonged to them!! seriously. The maintinence to the best they can, i have a feeling the people in the office treat them like crap and constantly hinder their work efforts. As far as crime goes this place is like mad max. I had a drug dealer come to my door at 3 in the morning and try to sell me drugs. I have had to physically seperate fighting couples. this place sucks.

Office Staff Stole my car
I went down to the parking lot to find my car missing. I went into the office to check if they towed it for some reason before calling the cops to report a stolen vehicle. Apparently they hire a company to drive around the parking lots and tow vehicles if the registration tags are expired (by only one month even). This would have been ok, but my registration was current and valid!!! Luckily I had government emissions paperwork from the previous day stating they were valid because the office staff was VERY rude and said it was not their problem that I had to pay $95 to get my vehicle back. The only way to accomplish anything was to truly yell at them to get my car back that they ----ed up! They finally called the towing company and I was able to get my car back charge free - but they wouldn't even bring my car back to the lot so I ended up having to walk to the towing lot to get my vehicle. The entire event is UNACCEPTABLE, and I am lucky I didn't get fired from my job because of their mistake.

Agree, it is getting worse and worse... Sucks big time
I have lived in this apt complex for almost 4 years.

the current staff suck big time. they even do not look at you when you pay for the rent, or they do look at you with poker faces (like you have missed the rent for 6 months).

the damned washers and dyers are the worst. They had the money and time for the renovation (ugly patios and paint), but dont pay any attention to the real stuff like laundry rooms, business center (printers never work), health club (TV broken, treadmill broken, weights missing...).

cleaning services have also became worse and worse. They used to vacuum the hallway, but never again after changing the management team 1 year ago.

The only good thing about this apt complex is its relatively large floor plan. But hey you can find the same thing elsewhere.

All told, find some places else even if you pay a little bit more. This place is getting worse and worse.

Ummm....not the best, obviously.
I guess you get what you pay for. My roommate chose this place while I was out of town and when I showed up to sign the lease I definitely hesitated. It's just not that nice, but it doesn't cost much to live there so I guess it makes sense. The one thing that stands out most was when I called maintenance to have them fix my closet door (which wouldn't move unless I put all of my body weight into it) and the guy just straight up said he couldn't fix it. I could only use one side of my closet for the year that I lived there and even then, I couldn't actually open and close the door regularly. We had a pretty big scorpion problem toward the end, which was pretty much my worst nightmare come true. There was one guy who lived across from us who was clearly on steroids and used to scream like a gorilla at 3am. Come to think of it, there was a lot of noise most of the time. Everything in the apartment was just kind of run down and my bed was like slanted because one corner of my room appeared to be sinking into the ground. I never would have lived here in the first place, but it's obvious that you get what you pay for. Personally, I'd rather spend the money because I was pretty uncomfortable the whole time I lived there. Oh, yeah, and the staff was usually really rude to us, but I understand that they are under new management now. Hope it gets better!

I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy!!
I have lived at this community for 3yrs (due to the fact that I HATE to move) although after my lease is up I am gone! The first 1 1/2 yrs were great the management company and staff were wonderful. After the new mgmt took over the office staff has complete disrespect for the residents, work orders to do not get completed and if you are lucky enough to get them done it takes 2-3 weeks and several requests. When everything is breaking it's a constant uphill battle. Scorpions are an issue on the North side of the complex and cars get broken into all the time.

My biggest problem is the blatent disregard for resident concerns, feelings and issues.

If you want stress free living do not live here!

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DESERT PALM VILLAGE TO MY WORST ENEMY!!!
Good Place to live
I have been very pleased with Desert Palm Village. I have heard of a car stealing problem, but I have yet to see it. I have never had anyone so much as ding my car before either. I am not saying they are not true, I just have never seen it. The staff was very friendly to me and has been great. I have a cute little cat named Linkin and the ladies always ask how he's doing when I go in to pay my rent. I love their work out facilities and the pool area by my building. I live on the North side right up against the Rancho Place. I have really enjoyed the apartment I live in. I keep it clean and my neighbors are all really nice and cool people. I threw a "get to know my neighbors" party about a month after I moved in so I could get to know everyone I would be living around and they were all really cool people. I have never been happier living in this apartment. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do. Feel free to e-mail if you want some respose to some questions you might have by an actual resident.

Never Again
This place is crap. We would only have 7 minutes of hot water in the shower. Our garbage disposal NEVER worked, ever. We asked the management serveral times to fix it. Some guy came, fiddled a bit, left, and then the thing broke... immediately afterward. We gave up asking them to fix it and just had a rotten smelling sink. The door to the medicine cabinet NEVER opened, and the closet doors kept falling off.

The management is so stupid, one girl told us that we were supposed to spell desert 'dessert'. Think about that. THIS APARTMENT IS CALLED DESERT PALM VILLAGE! I mean, my GOD, WHY?!

Parties went on every night, and we couldn't sleep. The insulation was horrible, and the electric bill was high. One month the bill was $240.

For the first summer we lived there we had NO AIR CONDITIONING. The office said that it worked, but it only pumped out 80 degree air. We suffered through most of the next summer with that same crap pile... I mean air conditioner, before they finally replaced it. I want to know why I'm not dead.

Scorpians are sometimes a problem, one of our neighbors woke up with one of them on his chest.

There was lots of space, and we didn't have a problem with roaches, though they could have easily come in through the inch wide gap underneath our front door.
