I will be leaving Alta Springs in a few weeks and I am actually disappointed that I must go. Although my experience was not the best, I have enjoyed living here. When I moved in, my unit was not ready. The staff was not aware of the condition of my unit upon move in. Apparently some flooding had occurred and repairs were made, but the clean up after maintenance worked on it, was not ordered and/or done by my move in date. I do fault the staff for not better tracking the maintenance personnel, however they did try to accommodate me with another unit. However I had already set everything up for this unit and just wanted it fixed, so they gave me a rent and garage credit. I noted everything on my move in form and proceeded to wait for the completion of the unit. I was fully moved in by the time it was all done, but they did get the work done by the end of that first week. Jason (maintenance) was incredibly helpful when I noticed I had no hot water. He realized that someone forgot to turn it back on when they were fixing the water leak. 5 minutes later I had hot water. Chris (staff) was my angel, he did everything in his power to make my move more comfortable from where it started from. Had you asked me for a review after that first week, I would have given a single star, however since then I have not had issues with staff or maintenance. When my thermostat needed replacing, it was fixed within hours. They just recently painted the patios and reinforced them with posts and footings. The complex is old, so you have to take things with a grain of salt when comparing this complex to others that are newer. The safety isn't what is should be as far as the restricted access, the side doors to my building have been broken since the day I moved in 13 months ago. It's an apartment, so you are going to hear your neighbors.......my upstairs neighbor is the only one I hear however because she is extremely heavy footed, and I hear the garage door opening and closing as I am directly above it. Those are based on my unit choice (so pick a top floor unit). Also, if you have never lived with baseboard boiler heat, I wouldn't recommend living here. The pipes can be very loud in the winter when everyone is running their heat. It is just how boilers are. I didn't remember that moving in.....I was unpleasantly reminded when my neighbor turned on her heat at 5am. There is no where else in town you will find the amount of space at this price. No where. And the interiors of the units are nice. I managed to reserve my unit just before the rental hikes began so my unit is now $300-400 more than where I started. This is still low for over 1200 sq ft. compared to the rates in other parts of town. Many of their two bed units have equally sized bedrooms and private baths, which is perfect for roommates. I have yet to see bedrooms that large anywhere else I have looked either. I will miss all the space I have. I have a space in the community garage, and my only complaint there is not with the community, but with the individual I was parking next to. I REALLY liked being able to get to and in my car without dealing with snow and the garage is always at about 50-60 degrees, which is cool enough in the summer and warm enough in the winter. I did not use the amenities too frequently, if at all, however they were always clean and neat when I did and although not large, they are adequate, and they allow you access to their sister property if you ask (larger gym, indoor pool). Honestly, aside from my first few weeks and the security doors not working right, I have enjoyed my huge apartment, huge patios, it's not loud with street noise, and a garage and in unit laundry. I just wish the rent hike hadn't been so large, or I would have stayed.

I toured with a young lady named Sylvia (i can't provide her last name) and she was the definition of world class customer service. She showed me the property that was older but definitely well maintained. There are multiple fountains on the property making it very peaceful. i also spoke with Gabby who pointed out that the schools are in the Denver County region as well as Cherry Creek, which was also helpful. In regards to the tour, Sylvia was very well spoken and provided me with extremly accurate information. In addition to that, she was also very knowledgeable about the area, and provided me with particular details in regards to shopping, dining, and transportation. All in all, Sylvia was very honest and forthcoming with every question I had. It was great experience touring with her. I am definitely considering submitting an application at Alta Springs.

DO NOT do it. I promise you will regret moving into this complex. The staff is horrible and they are gonna steal your security deposit. I had throw up on my outdoor stairs for over six months. Other people in different buildings informed me of mice and rats in their buildings. Unfortunately attorneys will not help with getting your deposits back unless it's over $2500.00. Stay away please. I've never been treated so badly in my 60 years. Just glad I'm outta there. Please check other reviews to verify that all former residents hate this place. Minus five in my radar. Mgmt company will not answer the phone ever. STAY AWAY.

When I first moved into Alta Springs, I thought this was going to be a really great place to live. I was completely wrong. Since I have moved here in October 2014 we have had these issues: 1) Freezing pipes. 2) Our heat never rises above 65 degrees. 3) There is literally no insulation between the floor (the garage is below us) and there is no insulation between the outside wall and the inside of the home. 4) Multiple pipes have busted in the apartment building, the maintenance team never arrived and due to the hot water leaking for 12 hours, it caused the main level roof to cave in and hot water was pouring down the steps. 5) Our bathroom/bedroom is always below 55 degrees. Even when it is 30/40 degrees outside, its still below 55 in those rooms because there is no insulation. To explain this further, Alta Springs has lousy baseboard heaters to begin with, but they do work. I have contacted management 5+ times regarding our bedroom and our bathroom and the Manager states that there is nothing wrong with the baseboard heaters and there's nothing further that she can do. I let her know that this apartment is currently not up to Denver code (Apartment must reach 70 degrees, as long as its not colder than -5 degrees outside). She said it is up to code, and that she will not be giving me a credit for rent, even though this has been going on for 2 months. I have been told many excuses as to why the heat doesn't work. Here are a few: "The apartment was built in the 1980's and just cant handle the weather". "The heaters are just not up to date because it is a boiler system". Yet they never acknowledge the real problem of the lack of insulation. The manager inspected my apartment with the head maintenance worker, and he told her it was because the lack of insulation. When it does get cold outside, it once cause our entire bathtub to freeze with 1 inch of solid ice (we kept the tap dripping so the pipes wouldn't freeze). When we told maintenance and the manager of this issue we were simply told not to use that bathroom. That bathroom is our master bathroom that has an open floor plan into our bedroom. 6) The only helpful person in the office is Chris. 7) The apartment building is consistently kept in a filthy manner and is never cleaned. You will find trash bags, boxes, soda cups, chicken wings, and bottles of alcohol laying in the common areas and hallways. 8) The garage doors are constantly broken. My vehicle was broken into within 1 month of living there. Here are a few nice things: 1) washer and dryer included with rent. 2) Its spacious. 3) that's really about it. Everything else pretty much sucks and/or is broken. I will be leaving Alta Springs immediately. The manager has made it clear that she does not care about the welfare of her tenants. I would avoid this dump.

We just moved out of this place and we could not have done this soon enough! We lived there for a year and it just kept getting worse and worse. The office staff changes about every month so no one seems to know anything when you need help. Our building's trash was constantly backed up, the elevator was ALWAYS broke and the ice around the buildings are never salted. If you are able to get someone in the office to answer the phone, they just say they are working on it and nothing would get done for days! They have creepy groundsmen driving around constantly but who knows what they actually do. The grounds are always covered with trash and not kept up. It made me nervous to think some of these thuggish guys were trusted to work there and even scarier to think that they have keys to our apartment! The apts where ok but the horrible staff made this place terrible. They cannot take the time to fix what is broken but they have the time to tape up constant threats on the doors and walls. Also, I know of at least two past residents who have lawsuits against this place. TRUST ME, DO NOT DO IT!!!

I have been living here for about six months and I have mostly good reviews. It seems as if the problem children from the office are gone and all problems I have been having in my apartment get fixed quickly. When I originally put my deposit down I was told by one of the leasing agents (who thankfully is gone) that I would get one of the updated apartments... the day I'm supposed to move in, apparently I don't have one! Luckily the manager fixed a ton of things around the apartment... and to say the least I was quite literally about to walk away that day but the manager walked with me through the apartment and she started pointing out things that were not okay without me prompting... the only thing that hasn't been fixed still is replacing the dryer... and I am over complaining about that, but at least I got a new washer and all of the other things I needed fixed. (The dryer was just an extra to match the washer. She was giving me a new washer because the old washer had black chunks of stuff coming out when I turned it on) They redid the carpets and vinyl as it smelt like cat pee and cigarettes in my apartment. Any time I had any other maintenance issues it was generally fixed the next day if not within 48 hours. I also had an issue with an old roommate who started being destructive and was refusing to pay their part of the rent, luckily I convinced them to move out and the leasing office got right on the paperwork for me... thank goodness because that was a hassle and a half for me! The main complaints I have about the apartment are that there are large cracks around the sliding glass doors which makes the apartment quite drafty, but nothing a little putty can't fix. Also the ceilings are super thin... but it's an old building and the only way to fix that is with super insulation and they'd have to take everything up... again can't complain too much. As far as apartments go, this is definitely a pretty good place to live. I have had nothing but good experiences with office and maintenance staff. I am not willing to spend upwards of 2 grand for an extra large 2 bed 2 bath apartment so for the price point this perfectly suits my needs! My neighbors in my building have been super kind which is a huge plus. No apartment is perfect but if you pay your rent and report the problems things will get fixed.

Personally, I would not recommend Alta Springs to anybody I know. One, the maintenance is never on time when asked to repair something. I remember an instance where I was told that the maintenance team would inspect my apartment for a possible leak, and they didn't show up until two weeks later. The people who work in the leasing office are highly inappropriate. I remember a time when I walked in and heard them discussing an individual and saying a whole bunch of negative remarks about that person, trying to get them thrown out of their home! I feel that the workplace discriminates the residents. Something needs to be done about this, because the next time I hear another discriminating remark, even if its regarding someone's past, I am going to report it. This is a community and their needs to be professionalism and respect, which I know that Alta Springs is missing. Not to mention, you can't even play music in your own home. I get complaints sometimes for playing music in the afternoon, when its not even that loud.

Alta Springs is definently a place I would personally NOT recommend to anybody I know. First off, the people who work in the leasing office are RUDE and always talking about their tenants that live in the apartment complexes. Not only that, but the crew is NEVER on time when asked to fix something in the apartment. They wait for days before they get something completed. It is RIDICULOUS! Maintenance never repairs the problems inside the household properly and are not reliable when you call them in concern about a problem. The leasing office and management are not helpful whatsoever and seem like they don't care about anybody but themselves. I am very disappointed in the staff. especially since they are NOT doing their damn jobs! Personally, I would say to management and their staff to do their jobs and stop making up rumors in the workplace or putting down the tenants that live in the building, because this is the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in, and it is not appropriate to talk down about other people especially when you are supposed to be a worker in the place. Have some respect for others and STOP discussing other people's business!

I currently live in Alta springs now. After living here for a few months my opinion has drastically changed. When I first moved in I loved it! Nice apartments nice people etc. Now it's gotten to the point where MUSIC is not allowed, MAINTENANCE is not respectable and the FRONT DESK is extremely rude. There is a number to call for the maintenance people when you have issues with anything. When you call they ALWAYS ask is it ok for the crew to come in even if you are not home? (Since they have keys to every apartment) I have always said no, every single time. They also give you a time frame for their arrival and SAY they will call before hand, The time frame is never accurate, and I have never gotten a call. It's 3 knocks and if you don't say anything or answer they just let themselves in. The first time they came in our apartment when we were not home and fixed the wrong thing, I asked for the washing machine and they fixed my sink and dishwasher and left my dishes on the countertop instead. The second time they let themselves in when I was naked and getting into the shower. 3rd time they came in when I was in the bathroom. This time I never got a time frame for their arrival what so ever and they came into my apartment while I was sleeping at about 8am. I awoke from my dogs freaking out at a stranger entering our home, and they didn't even fix everything I asked for. I needed 4 things fixed disposal, AC, screen door, and bathroom door. Neither door has been fixed, they ignored those requests. Lucky for me they fixed the most important ones vs the least important. I have talked to the crew, called the front desk as well as the maintenance number and complained about the fact that they just let themselves in and I am not ok with that. I don't know about you but I don't feel comfortable with a stranger coming into my house with out me letting them in or with out me even being home. They agreed with me but have done nothing about it. The crew itself is very nice, they've apologized and let me know they were never told not to enter, but after me asking each time now there's no excuse and it just continues. The people you call to request their services, and the front desk do not do their job. They don't voice the tenants concerns/requests to their workers. This issue needs to be addressed immediately its been going on for 7 months now. Another situation with the front desk is music. I have had 1 neighbor come to my door to complain about my music being too loud, she had just gotten out of the hospital so I decided to be nice and just turn the stereo off. Other than that situation I have never had a neighbor complain to me about my music. On a different day I was listening to music at 2pm and by the time I made it through 4 songs (total of 15 minutes) I got a call from the front office saying "A bunch of your neighbors have called complaining about loud music all day long." I asked, "since quiet hours are before 10am and after 9pm what time have they been calling since? Why is it an issue if I decide to listen to music in my home?" He responded with, "Since 10:30 this morning. If you put the stereo by the wall, on a table, or on a countertop it echoes through the walls" I said, "Sir I do not believe that neighbors have been complaining since 10:30am because I didn't even wake up until 12:30 since today is my day off. The walls, the counter top and on a table? So you're telling me I can't listen to music in my home period? Is that right?" He said, "Ma'am there have been complaints and I am asking you to turn down your stereo. Have a nice day" And he hangs up on me. So no music in your home, no privacy from strangers entering, no warning when they will come, unaware of tenants concerns, and lying is what goes on in Alta Springs Apartment Homes. Don't get me wrong the people are sweet, but they don't know how to do their jobs weather its on their behalf or their bosses.

My husband and I just signed our 2nd lease at Alta Springs. Last year, I looked at several apartments before deciding on moving here - the competition didn't come close to what they offer here for price and amenities. When I first came to visit the property, prior to becoming a resident, I was very taken by the location and what it had to offer. It's situated in a well-maintained residential area with other apartments and condos. The property contains lots of beautiful flora and backs up on a park. A system of ponds runs through the property, drawing in ducks, rabbits and other wildlife. You really don't feel like you're living in the city, which I love. There are 12 buildings on the property with 3 levels each and 10 units per level. Each building contains two garages. There is ample parking outside, too. In my opinion, some buildings are better than others, but you'll have to take a look at them yourself to judge which are the best. If you're lucky, you can get a unit looking over a pond, trees or the park. Some of the bottom floor 1 bedroom units have great extended porches. The second thing that impressed me was the staff. They are very friendly and remain helpful even after you sign the lease. Whenever I need assistance, they are there to help. The office is open every day and the maintenance guys are prompt and efficient. Finally, the apartments themselves are great. There are seven different layouts to choose from (two 1bd/1ba layouts and five 2bd/2ba layouts). My one bedroom apartment has an open layout with nine-foot ceilings. It includes a wood burning fireplace, something that is quite rare in Denver, and the must-have washer and dryer. The kitchen is functional with nice counters and black appliances (microwave, oven, fridge, and dishwasher). The bedroom is spacious with a huge walk-in closet. Both the living room and bedroom have access to my porch and huge windows. I love the bathroom because the sink is separate from the toilet and shower (great for getting ready in the morning with another person). It's relatively quiet (I rarely hear my neighbors beyond some doors opening and closing), and I always feel safe. The building is a little older, so some maintenance is needed, but they're working on it. So far, I've really enjoyed living here.

I just moved into Alta Springs a few weeks ago. I looked at about 30 apartments before choosing Alta Sripings. I have been very happy with my choice. The place is clean and quiet. The staff especially, Darryl, the the KING of maintenance, have been super: prompt and accommodating. I really think that I am going to like living here.

I just signed my 4th lease here. It's quiet, comfortable, and Riverstone, who manages the place, have been exceptional. When I've requested maintenence, it's done immediately. My apartment faces east, and in the winter I have a nice view of the park. In the summer, I have this gorgeous ash tree in front of my balcony. I've thought about moving from time to time, to be closer to work, but the truth is this is comfortable living, and I never saw another place for the price that I would want to live. The bathroom layout is cool. My kitchen has black appliances, and good-looking countertops. Building is secure, and my neighbors are nice. Until I can afford to buy again, this is home.

I have been here for 3 weeks and love the place. Clean, quiet and I love the view of the trees from my balcony. It is close to my job and I'm so glad I found this place. I feel very safe with the security of the building. The staff is always helpful and even remember my name! I'm just not an "apartment number", as I was in my last place, I like that very much. I hope to be here for many years.

My husband and I recently moved here without previously visiting Alta Springs or even Denver. We have been extremely pleased with the apartment, both for the interior as well as the pond view. The layout is open and spacious, especially with the tall ceilings. Although the complex is somewhat of a drive to downtown, there are many amenities in the nearby area including beautiful parks. We heard of complaints regarding the management company, but have been very pleased with the service we have received. For example- we had questions about our lease and they were able to clarify all costs. Would definitely recommend!

When Fairfield managed this property it was great but Riverstone is awful! They try to keep your deposit, do not take care of things that you pay for (like the controlled access) the hallways smell, the garbage chute is gross! for what they charge you can get better elsewhere! Look for a fairfiled or aimco property - they have been wonderful!

We had to take Riverstone to court to recoup our deposit. They didn't show up and we won. I have had to file for them to submit interrogatories and they have passed that deadline so now I will have to file for a motion of contempt! Which I will probably next week, contempt can carry jail time so they must have a horrible legal team to ignore this and not just pay the judgement. This place is horrible!! I guess they think we can't file this stuff (anyone can it is really easy) luckily I build cases for a living so I have no issues continuing to stay on their butts as the cost of what they owe us continues to rise, over double now and rising! keep in mind I am sure the cost of behaving this way with disrespecting and ignoring the courts is passed on to the residents. and I suspect we are not the only ones.

I am moving out at the end of the month and cant wait to get out of here! I moved in at the end of the year last year when it was the old company Fairfield. They had the best staff. Friendly and fun. Ever since Riverstone took over this place has become a joke. They are spending all this money repaving the parking lot, (which it didnt need) and putting down new flooring in the lobby (who really cares about that) but will not spend any money where people actually live. This place was built in 1983 and still has the same windows and doors. EVERY SINGLE DAY...I have to spray multiple Yellow Jackets that get in the house through all the cracks in the windows. I have to clean my bath tub every day before I can bathe my kids because of all the bugs that come through the window and get stuck in the tub. Of course, they say its not in the budget to replace the windows. The sliding glass doors are so old they barely slide anymore, of course thats not in the budget either. When I moved in, my rent was $974 for the 2 bed 2 bath at 1,200 sq ft. Now they are raising it to $1054! The counter tops are laminate as well as the floors. The carpet is laid so terribly that it comes up and several spots, the closet doors are flimsy and fall off every time you move them. Who would pay almost $1100 a month for a crappy apartment infested with bugs and risk getting stung every day? To top it off, they want to inspect your apartment 2 MONTHS before you move-out. They are trying to find ways to make the former residents pay for their renovations. The staff is rude and uncaring and the manager Stephanie is a stone-cold B****. DO NOT MOVE HERE! You can live at Parker and Illiff in BRAND-NEW apartments for the exact same price.

My fiance and I just resigned our lease on Saturday because we really like living at Alta Springs. Our pet rent went up $30, but we have two pets now (a dog and a cat), so that was to be expected. Despite the renovations new management are adding (see below), rent didn't sky-rocket, which I appreciated. Too many places really try to screw you over when you renew, and I was pleased to see that we were still getting a fair price for what we have. (Disclosure: I'm originally from Baltimore, where the cost of living is 40% higher than it is in Denver.) Pros - New renovations to parking lot; security doors (They aren't progressing as quickly as I'd like, but it's nice to know that they're trying to make things more secure, even though people keep jimmying the doors open.) - VERY pet friendly (although there are breed restrictions on certain dogs) - Close proximity to Babi Yar Park (great for dog walking/socialization), Cherry Creek State Park, Cherry Creek Trail, bike trails - HUGE floor plan for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath. Open kitchen, large living room, wood-burning fireplace, walk-in closets, bathtub and shower, large patio (you can have a propane grill) - Parking usually isn't a problem for me, actually. I can almost always get a spot close to my apartment, but then again, I keep normal work hours, and I don't mind walking a bit if necessary. - Good mix of types of residents: families, college kids (surprisingly responsible), older couples, people who've lived there for years, ethnically diverse. Almost everyone I've met/run into there is very friendly. - Love the location! Close to grocery stores, restaurants, and not so far from Colorado Blvd to make it impossible to get there. (NOTE: Since the last review, construction on Havana/Hampden and Iliff have both finished and are MUCH better than they used to be.) Cons - As a dog owner, I'd like more trashcans around the complex so I don't have to walk all over the place with a bag of dog poop. :p - Goose infestation; fountains haven't worked in a while, so there are some foul-smelling pond areas. - Management, while friendly and helpful, isn't always very good at communicating things with residents, especially during the transition from old to new. (For example, we used to have until the 5th to pay rent with old management. New management changed it to the 3rd without alerting residents.) - No recycling dumpster!! We used to have one, but apparently residents don't understand that you can't recycle things like wood, so the dumpster company removed it. I'm hoping that new management tries to work things out again because the closest recycling center is 45 minutes away. I posted two blog entries a while back with pictures of the apartment: Don't know why the links didn't work on the original review here! http://clairethearmadillo.blogspot.com/2011/08/we-have-new-apartment-pt-1.html (Under August 2011, in case Apartment Finder cuts off the link again.) http://clairethearmadillo.blogspot.com/2011/10/our-apartment-part-2-friggin-finally.html (Under October 2011, in case the link is cut off again.)

nice place but way over priced and has some issues!
We are coming up on the end of our lease. While all of the things that attracted us to this complex are still there there are things that out weigh the good and we will probably go with something more affordable this year. If the new management decides to lower the rent then we *may* stay but it would depend on how low it would go. I'm going to try to be fair with this - good and bad... PROs: High ceilings with recessed lighting lots of square footage, kind of updated, landscaping is great - beautiful actually pool is nice (not always clean though - at least last summer - cant say about the other summers) washer and dryer in unit large patios controlled access buildings (that don't seem to ever work, just pull on the door! but if they would, it would be great, it was one of the reasons we chose this place.) ponds for the most part, maintenance is pretty quick but the repairs are sometimes not that great, they have to be redone again after a few weeks - month. fitness center is nice (but has been closed for some reason) will accept packages for you we have 2 walk in closets in our one bedroom apartment and there is storage (free) if available underground garage but pricey! at 50.00 a space (most are 30-35 in Denver) Parking outside is horrendous location is decent (but since we have lived there Havana has had construction and Iliff just started construction and those are the two main ways for me to go to and from work) 2 tone paint but its flat paint so don't even bump the wall or you leave a mark the wildlife around - trails etc. brick building. CONs: Price is way too high for what you get electricity outages are excessive (and this has been for years, adjust the price if the apartment has issues!) costs of the utilities (but not xcel) is divided and it costs almost as much for the one bedroom we have as it cost for the 6 bedroom, 3 bath house with a large yard we owned before - we were told about 35/mo -- it has always been 60-80. trash chute (since the new management took over this month) is constantly over flowing (in the little chute room, no one bothers to put their trash down the chute) and the old management always had that cleaned up if that was happening, I live next to one and now it stinks! hallways are a mess (still Christmas tree needles all over that have been there for a few weeks now, Ive been watching to see when it will be cleaned.) and the hallways are kind of stinky and worn. Dog poop EVERYWHERE outside - if your tenants aren't picking up after their dogs, HIRE someone to pick it up! I pick my dogs waste up and I pay wayyyyyy tooo much for my apartment to have to deal with dog poop everywhere! Heating is never right, either way too cold or way too hot. The central A/C works really hard all summer - more than it should and in turn costs a lot and our bedroom is never cool enough - even with insulated drapes. Washer and dryer are probably as old as I am and do not work very well, I wear a lot of black and globs of lint end up stuck all over my clothes. NOISE!! - we told them we needed something on the 3rd floor since my fiance works graves.... we ended up in a first floor and our bedroom sits right over the garage door and that thing goes off all day!!!!! and our neighbors sound like they are running a circus next door from about 8am to at least 10pm, right on the other side of our bedroom wall! My shower looks like they painted over the tiles and now the mildew and horrible repair jobs throughout the years are showing through, it looks gross. My tub has never drained properly. oh, and they said they would put a "container" in my apartment for 2 days, I called and asked what "container" to be told they are testing for radon! I asked for the results and that was 3 mos ago, still no results.... a bit shady we requested an apartment with upgraded appliances, we were told they would be black and would have an overhead microwave -- on move in day, they were white, kind of new and NO microwave so I had to buy another one since I gave away the last one I had and we are still paying the "upgraded price". the dog poop and trash situation NEEDS to be dealt with - it's unsanitary and truly unacceptable! Overall the neighbors seem friendly enough and haven't had any issues with them. The staff always seems nice and helpful. I wouldn't recommend this because it is WAY over priced for what you get. Should be about 100/mo cheaper since there are electrical issues, the appliances are eh, ok, and the pool has issues etc. If it were it would make it a little easier knowing they aren't charging you top dollar for a place that is not worth that. Ive been apartment hunting and have found some other nice places out there for a lot less and while they aren't top of the line, I'm not going to be charged top of the line prices and I'm ok with that! Fair is fair..

We had a continuous series of lengthy electrical outages during which time the exit stairwells were not lit which they would not fix even after repeated complaints from many tenants. The grounds and parking lot were barely lit. Almost stepped on a used syringe in the parking lot. The elevator would be out of order for days at a time. The staff was rude and uncaring. After paying all kinds of non-refundable deposits they had the nerve to send me a bill for carpet cleaning which is crazy-I left that apartment spotless. Isn't this enough to scare you off? If not, believe me-there is more. The horrific stench of the unkept trash shute was often unbearable in the heat of the summer months. The unlit grounds resulted in small pets being eaten alive by coyotes when walked by their owners on several occassions. When I informed office staff of my stovetop not working correctly I was told that I should have rented one of their "upgraded" apartments if I wanted a working stovetop.

If it seems like too good to be true...it is!
I lived in Alta Springs for seven years. When I first moved in about 7 years ago, it was a very nice community, it was called Vassar Place Apartments at that time. During the time I lived there, about 3 years ago, Alta Springs/Fairfield took over the complex. Since that time, there is no communication between the office staff and the tenants. There was no notice of the take over. No notice who to send our checks to for rent. Was a blizzard, no phone for the office staff to inquire why there was no snow removal. No answering service in place who to contact. Then just got a notice on my door of the take over and a very rude move out and give 30 days or sign a year lease with $100.00 increase or stay month to month with $400.00 month increase in my rent...I didn't have time to look for a new place in the blizzard so I stayed. About 2 months later, got a notice on my door if I didn't pay my water bill (oh yes, it's not included in the rent), $27.42 within 24 hours I would be evicted! Didn't call to ask me if I had paid it (which I had). Again no communication just a notice. I contacted the leasing office for resolution, --------, the manager was VERY rude and just talked over me. So I contacted Fairfield, the owners who by the way do not live in Colorado...they contacted her and she began to work with me...seriously $27.42!!!!! for a water bill I HAD paid! I was furious! Then I got a dog...within 2 weeks after getting the dog had a call at my work from -------- stating the dog was barking and I had 24 hours to fix the issue...told her I would get a dog collar...asked her to let me know if it didn't work and I'd try something else. She said she would. No other calls so I figured it was working. Got a notice on my door 3 days later my dog had several complaints and if I have one more complaint the dog will have to leave the premises. I hadn't even paid the pet deposit yet! I hadn't had my dog 3 weeks yet. Again, all she had to do was call to let me know the collar didn't work and I would have tried something else. Had my dog de barked. Now a few months later I moved out...They are trying to charge me for carpet cleaning...they want to charge me $40.00 for a set of keys! In all, $255.00 and I don't even have a deposit with Alta Springs...my deposit was $50.00 to Vassar Place Apartments...unreal! I would NOT recommend Alta Springs to anyone ever! The office staff is very rude! The elevator gets stuck ALL the time. Once I got stuck for 40 minutes. I called the office and they were very non caring. Once the apartment next door was vacant and the temp was in the teens. The office staff obviously didn't check on the apartment, the pipes broke and I had a huge water damage in my apartment which ruined a lot of my bedroom furniture, Alta Springs did not offer to replace my furniture or acknowledge they caused the damage. I missed a day off work for that one. I tried to get into my apartment one day and the key wouldn't work, the lock was broken. The maintenence guy broke the door down and in the process knocked a peice of artwork off my wall and it broke. It was a collector item. I asked them to try to fix it so I could hang it up. You should have seen how they returned it to me. I didn't even ask them to replace it, there's no way they could have. I had to throw it away. Again, they had a bad attitude about it. The guy below me had parties from 6:00 pm to 3:00 am and I could smell marijuana and in the hallway I could smell marijuana also and in the elevator at times...also sometimes the smell of alcohol in the elevator, very strong smell from the residents. One of the residents said they saw people in the cars doing drug deals out front of the buildings in the complex. I didn't witness that...it used to be a good standing complex...Oh yeah, my car got broken into twice parked IN the PARKING GARAGE! Once they broke the window on the driver's side window. Abouot 3 months later they slit the top of the convertible roof. Parked in the parking garage, yes. I called the leasing office, they were more concerned I would blame them. Again, didn't care, with an attitude. I could go on and on...I would NOT recommend Alta Springs to ANYONE! These are just the facts.

Poor Staffing but HUGE apartments...u get what you pay for!
Well, Like the title states, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR HERE! My roommate and I lived here for a year, and it is a year we will never forget. First off, we moved in only to find out that there was a crack addict living on the bottom level below us. He would get very loud at night and would get violent. We reported him to the staff many times and nothing appeared to change. He thankfully moved out half way through our year there, but not before threatening to kill us and nearly beating down the door of our neighbor. WOWZA! When we first moved in, we were shown one apartment that was tan on the interior. I asked if ours was the same and we were told yes. Then when we got the keys, ours was brown?????? we also had a non working washer and mismatched appliances. We finally got all of this resolved, and it only took 2 months... oh and no discount on rent during this time either.....no good! About 3 months into living here, our dishwasher started leaking and that took... another 3 weeks to get replaced... again without any discount to rent or any apologies. summer came and we were never able to use the pool because it was always so cold in it. the filter system appeared not to ever work...GROSS! We were excited when we picked Alta Springs to have a workout facility on premise. Too bad none of the equipment ever works... and again, no compensation!!!!!! after a few of our neighbors got their cars broken into, we rented garage spaces. its a community garage so hopefully you can trust your neighbors...we could. but you also constantly find people parking there who dont belong, and one time my car was hit. the office did not care to do anything about it, and they left the garage door, which had also been damaged to the point it would not close, un fixed for several months... again, no discount or compensation even though we were paying for security we were not able to take advantage of. The place is falling apart literally.... our counters were chipping away, our cupboards had no finish left on them AT MOVE IN. I had to buy a carpet cleaner cause the carpets were GROSS on move in as well... all things the staff had no intention of fixing and they made that clear. We decided to move out when they sent our renewal amount and it was 33% increase on the previous year. It was absolutely ridiculous. I could have a brand new apartment with a staff that cares for less than the renewal rate, so we vacated! When I moved out, I shampooed the carpets, scrubbed the bathrooms, walls, and tile floors by hand. I cleaned the oven to look brand new... the inspector even told me it was the best condition she had ever had an apartment turned back in with. But they decided to argue with my roommate and I about the garage door openers which we turned in. We finally got the deposit back after MONTHS of Arguing! I love the Apartment itself, however, it was a pain to deal with the staff! I would NEVER live here again! they do no care at all about their people. I am happy to report that I am leasing with Windsor at Meridian and they are fabulous!

All fun and games until...
I have lived in Alta Springs for over a year now. I can't say that it is absolutely terrible. But, for the money, you could do better. I am in a large "remolded" 2 bedroom. It looks good for face value (new carpet, counters, doors, paint, outlets, switches, fixtures, appliances etc.) but the work was done poorly. I am continuing to find slight details that you can tell were just cosmetically done (Bedroom door frame is loose, wall outlets don't fit, cable and phone plugs are not properly wired, bathroom drawers fall out) and things like that. Many items that I am sure they are going to charge me for when I move out. (TAKE PICTURES OF EVERYTHING) As far as the amenities go. There is a brand new fitness center (missing many of the weights) business center (printer never has ink, usually only one computer works) a great pool (which all of the nearby communities seem to have access to), racket ball court, basketball court (hoop is always broken) and community functions. There is underground parking which is nice at least when the garage door works. There is ALWAYS at least one door to your building ajar or unlocked. Grounds keepers are nice, but do a half --- job fixing things aside from changing a light bulb, which takes them two weeks to fix. There was a change of management which went from GREAT to not so pleasant. If your lucky you might see a car on fire from your balcony in your parking lot. or a giant earwig crawling across your wall. and then finally. the elevators. If there is not dog poop, pee (human and animal) in there. Then its just plain out not working. So as I said before for your money you can get something WAY better. i.e. I am moving to a brand new place, less then 6 months old. Hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, FANTASTIC amenities, real security, entrance gate, granite counters high ceilings, pure luxury. And I am only going to be paying $20 more than I would here for a 1 bedroom. Before you move here. Do your homework, NEVER settle. Trust me. I work in the apartment business.

Ups and Downs
First off I wouldn't say this is a bad place to live. For the money I enjoy the apartment and overall my experience living here has been decent. The office staff has changed completely from when I moved in and I agree with everyone else that they don't seem to care. Don't expect most of their leasing agents to be overly polite to you. The managers do seem polite enough, though. Too bad it doesn't trickle down. When I was looking they would do anything to get you to sign a lease but once you moved in they couldn't careless. Within a few days of moving in I discovered my dishwasher didn't drain, that "upgraded" appliances just means they're black instead of white, my patio blinds didn't work, and the lock on the door that led from the patio to my bedroom wouldn't lock. Maintenance was very quick to respond but the office staff took forever to relay messages. It took two weeks of calling for someone to finally tell me that my blinds were on back order! That seems slightly ridiculous to me. When they came to fix the cracked sealant around my tub (two times later and it's still cracked) they left a huge mess in the bathroom! It took three days to get a hold of a manager and all she offered was to send in a housekeeper. I guess some people feel like leaving a mess in their bathtub that long. It seems like the garage doors work about half the time. One day the arm fell off and caused me and other tenants to be late to work since maintenance wasn't contacted immediately. At any given moment there seems to be at least one door on the property that won't close. Doesn't seem all that secure to me for an extra $40 a month! Trust me, it's worth it! The parking situation sucks otherwise. The buildings are pretty temperamental as well. The A/C in the hallway isn't always on in the summer, the hallways smell AWFUL along with the stairways, and if you don't live on the 3rd floor you can hear absolutely EVERYTHING that happens above you. I will say that the size of apartment you get for the money isn't bad. The grounds are well maintained and they just repainted as I was moving in so that doesn't look too bad. The area's nice, lots of parks and bike trails. There's been an occasional police officer here but that's not unusual.
