Stay away: This place is a dump!!!!!
I moved in Nov of 2008 and have had nothing but trouble. First I live on the first floor and the building mangment for got to put locks on the to sliding doors in my unit. Next up this place is so loud and the walls so thin that I can hear every word spoken in the apartment above me. The mangment of the place is joke, try to call them or ask a question and you quickly get the impression that could care less.

Ok, I have lived here for 4 years prior to the new mgmnt taking over in mid-2012 or so. I thought things might get better (maint., office attitude, etc.) but no... Since they have taken over they have lost my rent check twice, while harassing me for two days after about giving them my rent and it was late, then calling to say they found it but no apologies for the harassment. They have instituted new balcony regulations that state nothing but furniture on your balcony...no storage (even if nice and orderly or have outdoor cabinets, no bikes (!!!), you have to keep your bike(s) in your apt...either your living room, or your bedroom, or as I quote from the office itself, "we dont care where they go as long as they arent on your patio"...no firewood allowed, no grills unless they are electric grills (that you cant plug in because there are not outdoor outlets on the patio). That doesnt take into account the vintage 1970's carpets in the buildings, the cracked drywall in places, the chipped and discolored paint or the fact that the cleaning crew shows up maybe once every two weeks now (if we are lucky). That also doesnt include the grassless areas that have since died off, the lack of any enforcement of dog crap and that the office, when I called them about a maint request told me "well, we are really the middle man here, we dont do anything here except arrange leases and collect rent"...well, gee, thanks... BTW, maintenance if from an offsite company and while they seem to do a good job, its just ANOTHER company you have to deal with and wait on, and the office has no connection to them. And dont let their message that they are "$250 off market prices" (their latest attempt at getting people to come into this now-dump) mislead you. They are planning on replacing the locks on the exterior building doors and I am sure that will contribute to the increase in rent prices even though the buildings are woefully outdated inside and in reference to others about utilities...yes, they are expensive. Tried to move apt's, wanted a two bedroom instead of a one as I wanted my daughter to move in with me. They had one available but I have been informed of the following regarding moving apts... -There is a $300 transfer fee to change your lease... -They get to charge you another $35 application fee (although I have been living here for 4 years and have NEVER been late on rent) -Have to pay the apt deposit again, and they get to keep my first deposit. Thats about $700 just to move to an apt within the same complex for the same mngmt company. Stupid...and shortsighted. So, looks like I am out of here come my next renewal because they NEVER have an apt to move into at the end of your lease, they tell you your options are to move or stay where you are. Looks like its going to be "move"...and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone...ok, maybe my worst enemy but I would have to mull it over first... Listen, when I moved in it was a relatively nice place but it has really gone downhill, especially with the new mgnmt and their freakishly controlling new policies.

Doesn't feel like home
We have lived here for almost a year and we are not renewing our lease. The apartment is beautiful its has huge french doors on both bedrooms and a wet bar, which is perfect for our family, but from day one we had problems. We had broken doors, clogged drains and leaking pipes. It took the workers forever to come out and fix things and the whole office staff is new since we moved in and not very friendly. The house cleaning in the buildings stopped and the floors and elevator can smell for weeks at a time. Our tags on our car expired and before we could get new ones they put a note on our car saying we were going to be towed if we parked in the lot. We pay 2 gas bills and they are always over $100. They just sent out a letter asking if we wanted to renew our lease and the priced jumped $75 dollars more if we want to stay and that doesn't include our garage space. It just doesn't feel like home over here.

If you have a choice between this place and a box, live in the box.
Do not live here. There were problems from day 1. When we attempted to contact them to fix some of the problems, they would either say they would send someone out and then they would come weeks later or they would just tell me they would look into it. Our windows and doors leaking so when it would really rain it would seep in through the doors and windows and make the carpet wet. The elevator was always broken. In fact, I lived on the 3rd floor and had a 90lbs dog who was unable to go up and down stairs so I was constantly calling them to fix it. It would not be fixed until 2-3 days later and in the mean time I had my dog out on the balcony attempting to catch everything with bowls and towels cause he was unable to make to trip on the stairs without falling and really hurting himself. Also, the balcony was just a mess because of the bees who had made a home in the side of the building. I am highly allergic and i called them multiple times to get rid of the bees and they only came once. My dog got stung 4 times in the legs for just sitting on the balcony. The building always had doors open and broken. I called them once on the front door being broken as anyone could walk in and it took them 2 weeks to fix it. I could always hear the people above us walking around at 1 am! Crime is really bad in the area. One night there were police checking the field behind us because a shoot out had just occurred and the person was at large in the area. Some of the people were really nice in the building, but there was one person who had a highly aggressive dog who attempted to attack my dog and me multiple times. It got so bad that my dog became afraid to walk outside and I would have to double check that the dog was not around just so my dog could go pee. It would take me 30 minutes just to get the dog outside before he would go. Moving out was horrible! We got charged for their mess-ups and the charges were out unbelievable! All in all, DO NOT LIVE HERE because they will try to hurt you in every way. If your choices are here or a cardboard box, choose the box. The bugs will probably do better maintenance and rent will be cheaper.

Some good, some bad...
I have lived here for 2 years now. I have mixed feelings about this complex. I like the size of the apartments and I and my dog and cat felt very welcome. And over all the experience has been pretty good. There have been a few issues in this time however. I live on the bottom level. I didn't get to see my actual apartment before I moved in. The carpet was still wet from cleaning upon enrty. There were some cracked tiles on the kitchen counter and in front of the fireplace. The bedroom window was jammed into the bottom section and I needed maintenence to help me open it. The window has been broken basically my entire stay. When the first winter came about it leaked so bad with cold air and I called the office, they sent someone down that day and they basically taped it up with spongey material around all the edges which looked horrible and said it was they best they could do. The following spring I had them look at it again and the man pulled it completely apart and pulled out springs and semi put it back together again. Since then it will close better but now it won't stay open unless I stick something there to hold it. I too had a waterbreak a floor above me over my bathroom. They tore out my ceiling and it took weeks to fix again. During that time the maintenence guy told me he broke the key off in my deadbolt and had to break in with a screwdriver and the hole marks of that are still there. And the neighbors????? Well lets just say there always seem to be those who have to be told that I can hear thier radio/TV/bedroom activities/parties over my TV right in front of me. Thats just apartment living. They have been pretty good about dealing with them though. The first guy above me literally had sex parties at 1-2am. He was indeed asked to leave. The neighborhood is declining, in the last year there is gang grafiti on either side of our parking lot entrance (#13's) and the surrounding places have it on thier walls, tennis courts etc.. I have seen. And I have heard guns shots on a couple occasions from while walking the dog and on New Years. But on the whole the place has nice and pretty respectful tenants. So I hope that helps anyone thinking about this place.

mixed reviews
We lived in a 1 bedroom on the 3rd floor for 9 months. For the price and the size, it was ok. No complaints as far as the apartment goes, but parking ABSOLUTELY sucked! We would always get parking infractions for parking in fire zones, but there were only 9 spaces by our building of 30 apartments!!!!! The elevator was super slow and the illegitamate children would run up and down the halls at all times!! The trash would always back up and overflowing. The security door was always propped open because of lazy asses! The gym was pretty cool, so was the tanning bed! But the straw that broke the camels back wasent the leasing offices fault at all. The old lady across the hall died in her apartment and no one found her for a week. When the coroner came, they had her in the black bag on the gurney and parked her right in front of our apartment for 10 minutes!!! The smell was horrendous!!! And we couldnt open the windows because the screen was all holey and there were tons of wasps on the balcony!!!! (which we requested bug spraying several time, only came once) Oh dear lord, the smell was terrable! And it lingered for weeks!!! Then the neighbors drinking on their patios and partying all night! and did i mention the parking!!! When i could find a spot by the building, the trees leaked sap all over my car and f*cked up the paint!!! On my brand new Pontiac!!! Never could get it off!

DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!
I have lived in this complex since April of 2004. When I first moved in things were great. Since the complex has become Alta Springs I have had nothing but problems. My aptartment has flodded 3 times. The first time was from the sewage below me. The 2nd time was the washing machine above me overflowed and the 3rd time the construction workers forgot to turn off the water valve befor leaving. In addition to the floods when ever management needs to enter my apartment the leave it unlocked. Every time I complain they say "I am so sorry this happened to you. We have a meeting tomorrow and will discuss your issue" I have asked them on many many occasions to NOT post notices about repairs to the grounds or swimming pool hours on my door as I travel for a living but I always get notices posted. When I turn my heat on or if my neighbors turn the heat on you can hear the banging of the pipes in the walls. I do not sleep in the winter due to the loud noises from the heating pipes. I would never reccomend this property to any one and will be moving when my lease is up

Not Ok For the Money
Moved into a 2 bedroom in april 2007. Had to call maintainence 6 times for leaks in the ceiling, heating problems, problems with washer dryer. Had to resign a lease for 1 bedroom in sept. not by choice. Had leaks in the ceiling, washer leaked. Walls and ceilings are not built for loud or heavy people. I can hear the people above me take every step. When I watch football, I get complaints on the sound and I'm only watching at med volume. My front door looks like its going to fall off. The buildings were built in 1984 and they are long overdue for a remodel or fire. The parking is there i guess. They charge for underground parking and nobody uses it. I think they could give everyone a spot and be fine. The hot tub hasn't worked since ive been here. Its in a bad location too. Its next to the mail room. The only thing they got right was the service. A new mgmt company took over in april 07 and the response time is almost immediate. This doesn't negate the fact that every month you will have problems. I have problems sleeping because I hear my neighbors so well. Overall the worst appartment ive had since ive been in Denver.

There are better places
Rented an apt. here off the internet when we first moved to CO 3 years ago. Supposed to be secure buildings, but lazy jackasses constantly propped the doors open. Some buildings are pet friendly. Which was great, except for the people at the end of the hall that let their crappy spaniel wander and pee in the halls, then it would crap all over the steps and they wouldn't clean it up. Then there were mice too. But the last straw was when the place across the street had a gang move in and start shooting and screaming at 1am. I'd never move back there, but Denver blows anyway.

Great place!
I really like living here! The staff has been very helpful and addressed all my needs and concerns - Megan is wonderful! Haven't had any problems with maintenance -workorders are completed the same day or the next. I live in a non-remodeled unit and I haven't had any problems with my appliances. The apartment space is great, reasonable rent, balcony is big, neighbors are nice, and washer and dryer in unit. Several times a year, the staff host special events for residents - which I think is great! I recommend this place to people looking for apartment - drive by, talk to residents you see walking around.

Seriously?
I just recently moved into a newly renovated apartment here, and I cannot ask for more. Neighbors are friendly, grounds are clean and more importantly quiet. I'm not sure where some of these complaints arise, but I hope no to fall victim to some of the problems that others have posted about. For the money, the size, and the convenient location to anywhere in Denver, Alta Springs is the way to go.

we renewed- happy here!
We've seen everything in the neighborhood-and decided to stay. Our experience has been good here(4yrs!) and seen LOTS of changes. The price is great (size,w/d,elevator,view) for what we get compared to the others we looked at as well. Plus-we will now have a view of the mtns! We like that the washer dryer, is included-unlike other places. Our patio is bigger than any other place we looked. Our appliances will be new-because we are moving to a renovated apartment. There has been some construction throughout the summer but it didn't affect us too much- at least they are improvements- to me that shows the new company wants to make it better here. Megan & Maria have been great with all our questions regarding our transfer.

STAY AWAY! THEY ROB YOU WHEN YOU MOVE OUT!!!
I lived in Alta Springs (formerly Vassar Place) for nearly 4 years. Then when I found a home and moved out, the nightmare really began! Firstly, while living there, we had a mouse problem, issues with dog urine odor from previous tenants, a constantly broken dishwasher and microwave. We also made the mistake of renting a parking space in the parking garage. The door was constantly broken. In the last 6 months of living there, our refrigerator broke down and the hot water stopped working. While struggling to get through these issues, I watched as they installed new flooring and granite counter tops in an apartment down the hall. Now, three months after being gone, they have charged me outrageous fees upon moving... including charging me removal of items from the dumpster room that arent even mine!!! And, after I spent an entire day cleaning the apartment before leaving, they STILL charged me to have it cleaned!!!! DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! THE RENT IS OVERPRICED, THEY NEVER FIX ANYTHING, AND THEN THEY RAPE YOU ON CHARGES WHEN YOU MOVE OUT!!!!

DONT GET HUSTLED
THE AMENITIES SOUND GREAT, THE AREA LOOKS WELCOMING,AND THE APARTMENTS HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM. BUT ONCE YOU MOVE IN, SUDDENLY YOU DON'T MATTER. I TOO WAS AFFECTED BY THE FLOOD VIA ONE WATER-DAMAGED COMPUTER - THEY DON'T CARE. THE HEAT DIDN'T WORK IN THE ENTIRE BUILDING FOR 3 WEEKS IN MARCH - THEY STILL CHARGED US ALL ON THE ENTIRE COMPLEX HEATING AVERAGE. LASTLY, MY REFRIGERATOR BROKE. THEY FIXED IT... LITERALLY MORE THAN 2 MONTHS LATER. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE, THEY HUSTLE YOU IN, THEN TUCK YOU AWAY.

Keep away!
My apartment has flooded twice in the last month. The first time I lost the use of my apartment for 2 weeks. The new owners Fairfield Properties, have not been willing to compensate anyone in any way. 25 apartments flooded. I tried to get in another apartment and they said they would raise my rent if I moved to a new unit. The roofs leak, the doors on the patios leak, so every time it rains your apartment leaks. Stay away!!! Also mail keeps getting stolen.

Keep on Looking, this place is not worth your time
There is dog poop everywhere. I had a dog while I lived there it it sucked talking him out to do his business and pick it up only to find that very few people do. Our dog got very sick with Parvo while we lived there. Parvo is a virus that is transmitted from one dog to another thru their feces. I'm not saying he got Parvo there, but with all the dog poop laying around, I'd take the bet to Vegas. At least Vassar place provides doggie bags to pick this up, but people are still too lazy to pick it up.

My storage unit was broken into and management did not give a damn. The Denver Police had to threated management with an Obstruction of Justice charge if they did not cooperate and ONLY then did they lift a finger.

Trash chutes were full by the end of every weekend and stuff got placed in the hallway and trash chute room.

Neighbor above us in Buliding E was either cranking their music, letting their 3 dogs go nuts or they were arguing. Sounded like they were coming thru the ceiling on some nights.

Parking does SUCK. There is not nearly enough.

The mailroom is always locked, but after hours the maintnance locks EVERYONE out, including tenants. One door that was never locked was the 'Secured" entry into our building. Maintnance had to repair the door weekly because someone would pry the door jam so it would not lock.

The heating bills are ridiculous compared to most places, they use some fly by night energy company out of Texas to bill their water, heat and electricty. They are at least 1.5 times the cost of Xcel.

The maintnance guys were always trying hard for us, but they were trying to work on antique equipment, only so much they can do when they management won't supply modern day appliances. The freezers don't have ice makers, the dish washer leaked and the washer was Maytag version 1965. If you were lucky enough to have heat that worked, it didn't always work in all rooms and when it gets cold the pipes start creaking and popping and it sounds like a scene out of war movie.

When you are 1st looking at Vassar Place, the initial rent looks pretty good, but after they get done nickel and diming you with their utility and trash fee's you can find a much nicer place in a nicer neighborhood.

The plus side of Vassar Place, you never know what type of entertainment you will get by sitting on your deck at night at watching the cops arresting one of the tenants and I never did see a mouse.
Not happy
I moved in here may of 2006, I was very happy with the management and the staff, but since then they have gone downhill. The building where I live has had water damage on it its ceiling since November of 2006. The rent has increases 75 dollars. Forcing us to find a new place to live. During the snow storm of 2006 our mailboxes were broken into. The sidewalks were not plowed for 5 weeks after that snow storm. The boiler broke in our building in Jan forcing us to go to a hotel for the night, they did not reimburce us for the hotel stay. They bill everyone the same for heat and gas no matter how much you use.m The trash piles up in the chutes and smells. I would advice any one to stay away from this place. It is not worth the rent they charge. The hot tub has not been working since November. The excerise equipement is broken.

I was forced to move recently when my lease was up do to the fact that they raised the rent for more then what they are worth. YAY! Our mail was stolen AGAIN!
Our mail room was broken into AGAIN (second time since I've lived here) and all the mail was stolen. Christmas cards, bills, etc. Someone stole a check I sent to pay a loan and used it to create a forged check. Thanks Vassar!

Vassar place apartments are wonderful!
I have lived in Vassar Place apartments for close to two years in a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment. We have a panoramic view of the mountains and we are on the top floor. Parking is never an issue, we have a convenient trash chute and a washer and dryer that came in with the apartment. The company (Vassar) has been wonderful to us. THey throw little gatherings in the club house with free food and drinks (even beer!). They have a nice pool and a hot tub with a sauna. The grounds are beautiful with two huge ponds with fountains on site. I love it here! The best part is - we pay 850.00 a month for a 1200 sq ft apt. We have a fireplace and a jack and jill layout - so it would be perfect for roommates. We also have a wet bar in the dining room, and two seperate patios - one coming off of the living room, connecting to the master bedroom and one coming off of the kitchen, connecting to the 2nd bedroom. I have never had any problem with the staff. The only thing I would complain about is the other residents. Some of them are a little freaky. It is quiet, though. My husband and I are ready to buy a house, but we are hesitant to leave this apartment because it is so beautiful!

When it gets cold the Mice Move-In for FREE!
This is absolutely true. I lived on the 7th Floor of their other community next door Woodstream Village and as soon as it got cold I saw 4 mice in my apartment for 5 months. The couldn't catch it but saw the droppings everywhere. The mice bit my kids in their sleep on 2 different occasions! I have medical records to prove it. I finally decided to move and they never charged me a penalty fee for breaking my lease w/ 9 months left on it!

Finally moving out - thank God
When I first moved in to my apartment, I was really excited - however, as time moved on and management changes happened, things got worse and I no longer like living here.

I read all the comments and many of them are true. Maintenance is slow, security is lazy and management is incompentent as well as rude. The neighbors have changed and are becoming more criminal like. My adivse is to stay away. I would not reccomend this place, my place has rodents, and the walls are thin, you can hear your neighbors having sex. The management don't seem to care about anything, I called for maintenance when I first moved in, I went like a month later to see what was going on, little did I know the work order was'nt even put in, when the maintenance guy came he did'nt finish and told me that all the problems would be an all day job and never showed up again. So, I decided not to even bother and pray everyday goes faster for my lease to end. Parking sucks, after a certain time if your not home, you get no parking because most of the time one of the neighbors is having a party. There's dog poop everywhere!
