Very happy
I just moved in over the weekend and I love it!! We didn't see the apartment before we moved in, we came from south Florida. We did everything by email and phone and it was a very smooth move.

This place sucks. Do not move here. They owe me $1000 for not returning my deposit over something a tropical storm did to the ceiling. Idiots in the front office. I'm taking them to court so it will all be good on my end eventually. This place is run down and ran by morons. Move somewhere else.

Great Place--Didn't want to leave
I have lived here for a period of one year this April. I really didn't want to leave but my income is lower and I can no longer afford to live here. I have one of the newly upgraded 2 bedroom units and I love it. About a few months after moving in my income decreased which resulted in me paying late almost every month. Jessica in the leasing office was very good about working with me regarding the payments. I have never been treated rudely or disrespectfully by anyone in there. Any maintenance problems that I've had has been immediately taken care of. The parking situation does leave much to be desired but since I live alone I just make use of the garage which comes with every unit. The complex is rather quiet. I will agree with the other comments that the walls in the unit are rather thin so you can hear the other neighbors...however I have tuned it out for the most part.

Just moved in and love it here
I rented this apartment without even seeing it and I have to say I was very plesantly suprised. I moved across country and didn't know what to expect but the girls in the office made the whole transition easy. The updates are great and the neighborhood is really quiet and I've already met several of my neighbors. I am in the military and there are others in my unit that I will definitely recommend this place to.

love this place
Its been awhile since anyone has posted on here but i just wanted to say that me and my family love this place! It's so quiet and seems really peaceful. I have met several residents that have lived here a long time. The renovations are great and compare to some of the higher priced brand new complexes down in the busier areas of southside. We are looking forward to the salt water pool this summer too. Havent used the gym yet but keep saying I will soon. :) Oh and they have a dog park for our dog to exercise in. Love that so he can run off his leash. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family!

You call this luxury?
I just wanted to express my complete and utter disgust with the community in which I live. I have lived in apartments all my life and have never experienced such BS! I live in the Elements of Belle Rive. First of all before we moved in, we were told there was concrete slabs in between the apartments upper and lower levels. That was a LIE!! All night I hear my downstairs neighbor talking, watching tv, as he does us. We also hear our floors creek underneath our feet as we walk. We were also told the property might sell and be upgraded. Then we went to make our decision, we were told they would not be sold. SO we decided to move in (as we have bad experiences with properties being sold)so we thought this was a wise choice. Guess what! IT sold! Without warning! And without a letter or anything, the property has changed staff, offices and names. This should have been done with transition, letters and done in a way that is right for your residents! Not even two months after we move in, all of the new move ins are upgraded and gorgeous!! I get told that I cannot transfer or have the upgrades done to my apartment! How is this fair?? Its not! I complained about my crappy, broken blinds when I moved in, you think they could fix them, NO! The pool is never open anymore due to CONSTANT construction! The maintenance people create the biggest nuisance on the weekends at the pool (that is supposedly closed), and in the parking lots! RIDICULOUS! The office employees are the rudest I have ever encountered!! The dog pails sit full of bags of dog poop for weeks with flies and it stinks! NO one changed it for weeks, not to mention not refilling the bags for weeks either! There is no drop box for rent! Your hours are inconvenient! The $20.00 convienence fee to pay online or over the phone is OBSURD!! There is no parking EVER!! Your workers (-----, Painters, Floor guys) begin at 7am, waking people up is wrong! I have never heard of workers beginning before 8! They are loud, unprofessional and rude as well! I also want to know why workers are allowed in our apartment without 24 hour notice? This is not right! I cannot wait to move out of this monstrosity!! I love the price of my rent, its just not worth it anymore.

Nice place
We moved in to Southern Pines a couple of months ago and we love it there. It is probably one of the nicest apartments I have lived in and I have lived in quite a few different complexes. It is quiet and all of our neighbors are very nice and friendly. Of course, like all apartments, you are going to hear your neighbors occasionally. They are older apartments, but have been updated nicely. Our unit has new floors, carpet and all new appliances. The only negative thing I can say about the place is that I wish they would have replaced the countertops and fixtures while they were updating the place, but I guess the existing ones are still in fairly good shape. There are lots of nice, new, so-called luxury apartment complexes you could live in the area. But after living in some of them, I found that they were really cheaply built and not that great. A lot of the reviews on this website are pretty unrealistic. If you choose to live in an apartment, you just need to learn to deal with a certain amount of noise.

After eight years we are leaving the Elements to move back to Midwest which is home. We will greatly miss all the staff and great neighbors. We will especially miss Larry and his family cause they are our neighbors. The Elements is a wonderful safe place to raise a family and live in a very peaceful enviroment. The maintence people are quick to respond and do a great job with anything you need.Therre is no better place in Southside to live than here. Thanks to all for a wonderful eight years.

Advertise as luxury apts, which they are not!. Old apts with outdated applicances, old kitchens, and bathrooms really need serious work. Can only paint over a surface so many times, but aleast clean the dirt and grime off the surfaces before painting. Noise level, walls are thin, which means you hear alot, and if you live on the bottom floor, its really bad. Grounds really in bad way, most of the brushes around the apts are dead, lots of trash lying on the grounds. Staff not very friendly, act like you are brothering them. Saftey, lighting is horrible, so dark, not safe to walk at night, your unattached garage is so far from your apt, that walking to and from at night is NOT safe. Limited parking, people with two or three cars park in these areas and used their garages for storage, and parking regulations are not enforced

Still living here
For the rent you get an older apartment and unattached garage, with outdated appliances, an older kitchen, bathrooms that are outdated and questionable. The place needs some serious work. The grounds have been ignored for quite some time, at first glance it does not appear so down trodden, but after a while you see how poorly the grounds are maintained. The tennis court needs resurfacing; the tot lot was torn down and the way things are here it will be some time, if ever, that it will be replaced. If you want to use the pool bring a chair, there are about 4 chairs and 2 lounges so don't plan to relax there! The hot tub is roped off!! As for safety - IT IS VERY DARK the lighting is extremely poor.So once your in for the night it is best to stay there walking after dark is not a safe option due to the lack of adequate street lights. The staff does try to make things better and the location is great for activities, but the sign says Luxury and that is just bad advertising!

Worst Community
The office staff does not care about the residents. The maintainence requests are not resolved. The cleaning and landscaping is not done regularly so it is very dirty. Tennis courts are never cleaned. They charge high rents but the service is very poor.. I have left beacuse of these issues.

Quiet, clean apartment
We have lived here for about a year, and the apartment complex is great. We love it here. There is plenty of parking, including a garage for each apartment, and the residents all seem to be very friendly and very well behaved. We had a few maintenance requests and they were resolved within a few hours of our request on the same day. Staff was very friendly. Apartment is also in a spectacular location. It's within a mile of a mall, 4 groceries, and lots of restaurants since it is right off of a major road (Southside). Another positive is that you have that benefit without any road noise. The apartment is in a wooded area that is really quiet and plesant. I like having a free washer and dryer in the unit, as well as a dishwasher and an A/C unit. Only complaints I would have are that the workout facility on site is very small (a treadmill, an eliptical, some free weights and an all-in-one weight machine), but there is enough in there to get a good workout in. I really enjoy living here and would highly recommend to any of my friends.

Love it
I moved in over the summer and this is by far the best community in the Baymeadows area. The whole move-in process was really easy and any time I've ever needed anything, Larry (the maintenance manager) has been right there. Very clean and quiet.

Clean, Quite, and Service Oriented
I recently moved to Southern Pines and love the place. After being there 3 months, my family suddenly expanded so we needed to go from a 2/2 to a 3/2. The move was easy not only because it was less than 60 feet, but because the office and management staff made it so easy. Both the 2/2 and the 3/2 were spotless with new/near new appliances. The deposits and pet fees were easy to transfer. Both apartments needed minor fixes, like screen door latch and a non-working lightswitch. Both times the items were repaired within 24 hours. Great Staff, Great Location, Great pet-friendly neighbors. Only negative - the rent is a little high, but that keeps the quality of the neighbors high.

The best rental community in Jacksonville!
My husband and I moved into Southern Pines Apartments in July of 06 and, due to job re-location, had to leave in July of 07. We LOVED our time there! The maintenance staff was prompt and efficient and the neighbors were friendly and not noisy or bothersome. It is in a safe area and great location i.e. close to shopping, restaurants, I-95/9A. The work-out center is small, but the pine trees and ponds around the area are nice. Overall - good price/sq. ft, good nieghbors, good maintenance, safe area.

I like it here.
My husband and I came from a complex with a rating of 23% to give you an idea. Rent was higher here, but it has paid off in the long run. Neighborhood is very nice, and the residents are pretty friendly (we tend to keep to ourselves though). We've only had issues with 2 things since the intial move in fixes (dishwasher and stove). The smoke detectors are difficult to operate and are extremely sensitive. If you like to use your oven for broiling, be warned! =) Also the first time we lit a fire in the fireplace the paint inside of the fireplace caught on fire and we had to use our extinguisher on it. When the repair guy was told of the issue, they said it was our fault for not opening the flu. As it was the middle of winter and we didn't relish the prospect of heating the entire state once the fire was out, we'd closed it like normal people would... Once we informed them that it was open at the time of the fire, they did something to the chimney and now we don't have that issue. I expect it was a combination of the many layers of paint, and a soot buildup both in the chimney and under the paint layers. The repair guys here have a, "I'm not going to give you the benefit of the doubt" attitude, but once you show them that you are not a moron, they will find the problem and fix it in a timely manner. They are friendly and often wave to residents as they drive by. Many times during the afternoon hours you will see many residents at their garage area detailing or fixing up their cars. Which to me is a good thing. It means people feel safe here at night. Parking can be an issue, but management has followed up during the times that it is bad finding out who is not using their garage and one alotted spot. The mix of ethnicity is a little different than in other parts of the city and I would say that it adds to "peaceful" feeling I have here. We're not in the majority being white, but I do not feel threatened or intimidated like I did in my last apt. We have heard one or two domestic issues in over a year, but who hasn't had a yelling match with a loved one? Few and far between I'm sure. There is no apparent drug use or dealing, a major plus. We have resigned the lease, and plan to stay here until we can afford a home.

Remember my experience!!!
There has been a large, disgusting hole in the kitchen ceiling of our apartment, #904 since October of 2006. For SIX MONTHS We submitted countless requests for service and were ignored. It wasn't until March of 2007 that our ceiling was finally repaired. During the rainy season our kitchen and dining room flooded every time it rained, leaving us to clean up the awful mildewy mess. These people couldn't care less about community. We found an AMAZING new apartment and are so thrilled to be out of Southern Pines. DO NOT RENT HERE!!!! Contact me if you have questions!

Not really worth the money
We have lived here for about a year and a half. Nice quiet place with no loud residents to bother you. Residents are pretty friendly and its easy to make some friends in this community.

While the apts. are decent, they are not very solid. Floor creaks, signs of age are easily visible.

The landscaping etc. is well kept at the entry to the apts., but inside it is hardly taken care off. Water sprinklers spray more water on cars/pathways than on the plants.

Parking is an issue as no parking rules are enforced. Residents with 3 cars park all three cars outside and use garages for storage causing parking issues.

Exercise facility and Pool are at best "ok". They are not cleaned on regular basis.

Management staff is ok at best. Weekend staff is not very professional.

Great place to live!
We've lived here since August of 2005. We just signed a new lease and plan to stay until we buy a house. We have a 2 bedroom and it's HUGE for the money. The staff is incredibly nice and maintenance always gets things done quickly. In response to the review prior to this one, I lived next door to the maintenance manager (until he changed apartments recently) and most of the "creepy looking guys" are other residents. Larry, the maintenance manager, works hard and gets things done quickly. He's friends with most of the residents and I've never had an issue with "loud drunken parties". The girls in the office are super nice and make sure to help you as quickly as possible. I feel safe in this neighborhood; I can walk around outside at night without worrying. The apartments come with alarms, so that helps with safety as well.

The one negative I have about the complex is the parking. Each apartment comes with a garage included in the rent as well as one assigned space. This would work out fine for most residents, except that most people use their garage for storage.

The residents in the community are also super nice. We've made friends with most of our neighbors and it's nice to have people around that you can trust. It helps with the safety feelng. Overall, it's a great complex and I'm happy living here.

Nice, with caveats...
I lived here in the spring of 2005. The office staff are fantastic, the maintenance staff is friendly, but the maintenance manager should probably be replaced by the guy (I think his name is Donald?) who does all the work.

The apartments are nice, they're older remodeled apartments (probably built in the late '70's or early '80's) with nice amenities - washers & dryers in the units, microwaves, dishwashers, fireplaces, window "greenhouse" boxes - a nice touch! - alarms, etc.

They are spacious, with nice architectural features. The floorplans? I'd live in a house designed like these FOREVER. I love the layout.

The staff does a great job controlling pests, but hey, folks, this IS Florida, and you WILL occasionally see a... *ahem*... "Palmetto Bug" around, sometimes inside. But, in fairness, I will say, that we did NOT see any of the type of roaches that typically infest buildings humans inhabit. These Florida "Palmetto Bugs" are BIG, and they come in from outside, and they are indigenous to FL, so you will see them everywhere. Scary, ugly, but harmless, really.

Parking is a slight problem, because everyone these days has at least two vehicles: a car, and one of those stupid jeep thingies, I thing they call them SUV's or something, and because (After all, IT IS FLORIDA! :) everyone uses their garages as a storage building.

The neighborhood is pretty quiet, almost "vacation-y" in feel, if you don't live too close to the maintenance manager's apartment. (He throws lots of drunken loud parties, and seems to have a bunch of creepy-looking guys living with him.)

I would discourage anyone from moving into a lower apartment unless (no kidding here) you are deaf. It seems that, for some reason, the loud tenants with screaming kids always live in the upstairs units, and the neighbors we had upstairs from us NEVER took their kids OUT to play. (Why should they, when they can jump and scream inside?) The parents were confrontational when we tried to address the noise issue, and after we complained in writing 3 times, they were evicted. So, again, the staff is really on the ball.

If I had it to do over, I'd still rent here, but I'd take an upper, or one of the bungalow units (no upstairs, like a house) because of the noise, and because I am one who lives a quiet life. (No TV, etc.)

It almost seems like life slows down when you pull into the complex. Most folks will really like it here. It is very safe, and my wife and I often took walks around the complex after dark. Neighbors are friendly.

these apartments were utterly horrible.
they advised us the rugs would be replaced in our 2 bdrm apt, never was done. the fire place was missing a handle, .5 inch holes in the cupboards, a SWARM of ants that were there when we got into the place, kitchen, bathrooms, everywhere.. the bedroom door that went outside to the porch was kicked in, the frame was NEVER replaced, just coaked. the mast bathroom was rusty along with the stand up shower, all rust near any metal. we didn't sign the lease for a month atleast and barily anything was finished. we were so unhappy living there with the stains on the rugs, ants, etc, we decided to part after living there for 2/3 months.

the air conditioner in the 2nd bdrm wasn't even worth turning on. the vent was wide open but barily any air would come out. it was always atleast 75 degrees in that bedroom and not to mention the horrible water meter outside the 2nd bedroom window. yep, you hear TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP every time someone flushes the toilet or uses the shower upstairs.

the parking was absolutely HORRIBLE as well. no one would use their garage for anything but mounds of crap they kept throughout the years so everyone had atleast 2 cars in a tiny parking area. you're not allowed to park against the curbs so you'd have to park atleast 600 feet from your apt door.

their apts are NOT worth the $.

Seems like a great place
I've had exposure to these apartments threw work and have been impressed every time. The apartments themselves are very luxurious and accomidating. The caliber of people are friendly and wholesome and the general climate of the neighborhood feels safe and peaceful. You will spend alot to live here but it seems worth it. Nice facilities too!
