great apartment, you know?
i really love dees apartments. rents real cheap if you can get enough people to move in. im talking 80 bucks a month! cant beat that! plus the gates never work, so all your friends dont have to call you from the gate. like, my man snooky need to bring me a sack, but snooky dont know who to call at the gate cuz the names under this guy jammy and i dont know his last name to tell snooky who to call. so its cool cuz they dont work much. plus, there aint too many white people around. not that i have a prob with white people, they just like to complain when im outside drinking a 4o, honking my horn, and they wanna call the po-po. thats always the answer. and then we was setting off fire works to celebrate my brothers havin a baby wit his girl. best time an 11 year old ever had. but those old white people wanna mess it up. im out trying to hustle my way though this life and they gots those cushy 9-5 jobs. man they gots it so easy. they wanna spoil a brothers fun.

also, you can go down to the basketball court and play with all these people. they all live at the apartments around, no residents, so i can do whatever i want. yeah. now thats what im saying, you know?

you can just walk around and make all the noise you want at anytime a day or night. just dont let no white people see you. but theres not many left in here. \so you know what that means. lots of people you can show your rims to.

Wouldn´t recommend moving here.
I moved to Idlewylde in Aug. 2003. By all appearances it is a nice place to live. However, it is not. As another person posted, this "gated" community is in fact not gated. I´ve seen the gates working at most 4 days since I´ve been here. They were also not working when I toured in June but was told they were being repaired. A lady that has lived here for two years told me that they haven´t ever worked consistently. The last time they were fixed, it looks like someone deliberately destroyed one to mess up the system. She told me that that always happens, but they won´t put in cameras.
They also did not show me the exercise room in the newer Phase II because it was "having some work done to it." I´ve seen only one day that anyone has ever done anything that room, but I´ve talked to several people that were told the same thing. They don´t want you to see it. The weight machines there are average, the treadmills are poop (can anyone actually program even one of them?), the elliptical machine makes an awful noise and constantly asks for the heart rate though there is no heart rate attachment. Everyone from the indoor basketball court (that just seems like a good idea on paper) has to come into the exercise room to drink water because there is no fountain there. So there is ruckus and ball bouncing from that. Also the doors can not be opened from the outside after 10:00 even with the card. At my old complex, I often would use the business center and exercise room at 1:00 or 2:00 AM. There are police that come around and check on thngs and sit outside. Why? Because like another poster said, it is like living in the ------. Also, if you want to play tennis at night in Phase II, bring your night vision goggles. I´ve reported the lights 4 times since I´ve been here. Someone else told me they have been reporting for months. They still don´t work. Oh, two of the 6 or eight work. I guess that´s good for Idlewylde.
As far as the apartment itself, it is pretty nice. I´m in the Opera whaich is the biggest of the 2 bedrooms. I´m on a lower level (no cell phone reception, but I can´t blame that on Idlewylde) so the only adjoining neighboor I have is above. They must have a bowling alley up there. The noise is incredible. The only complaint I might have about the apartment is that there is not enough light in the bathrooms.
I personally have not had much contact with the office staff, so I can´t say anything about that.
I´d only recommend checking out Idlewylde if you just want a couple of more free apartment cookies. I´ve seen worse apartments (si quieres vivir en el barrio), but they were much cheaper.

Nice place to live
The assistant property manager, Natasha has been the key to the success of this property as she takes care of any issues immediately and professionally. others need to be more friendly in the office. The maintenance staff is very compentent and responds quickly to any concerns. Gates continue to be a problem and hopefully someone will be caught damaging them and then arrested.

Look into it.-
I have lived at Idlewylde for over a year now and have found that most of the complaints listed below are without merit. Granted Idlewylde has had problems with the gates but to no fault of their own. If you want to blame anyone for the broken gates, blame the idiots who keep running into them. Also with regards to the amenities being over run by non residents, The management has hired off duty Gwinnett County Police to monitor the ammenities and the non resident use has dropped dramatically. I can bet you the cost is high and non of that has been passed on to the residents. I have found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, especially the property manager. What people must understand is you live in an apartment complex, you are going to hear noise and things are going to happen that is beyond the managements control. I have enjoyed my one year and will continue to make Idlewylde my home.

DON´T DO IT!!!
I moved here 1 year ago.And little did I realize what a huge mistake I made. For starters I pay for a gated community which has not been gated once.Second,my apartment has been burglarized and the intruders took several items, all totaling over $8,000.
Third,my son cannot use the amenities due to
"section 8" people taking over. Also the walls in my apartment are so paper thin I can hear every movement. The screening of residents is so poorly done I feel like I live in the "------". The breezeways are so
unkept by maintenance.Daily upon leaving
my apartment there are piles of dog poop on all landscaping. This has been the worst apartment complex I´ve ever lived in.
For the rent I pay, this is a joke.
Thank God my lease is up!!!

Recommend...keep looking
As you will notice when entering the property all of the "secure" entrance gates are broken and have not been fixed since I´ve lived here.

Also if you´re looking for somewhere quiet...this is not the place. People blare music at all hours of the day and night. Plus I can hear right through the paper thin walls.

Although the workout facilities could be nice, they are normally filled with people who do not even live at the complex.

Overall, I would recommend you keep looking for something better or you will find yourself dissapointed.

Rude and not helpful staff!!!
We went to look at apartments there because we thought that after looking them up in the apartment guide and online this might be a good place. Were we fooled. A staff lady last Sunday(6/8/2003) showed us the place in 10 mins.

When we got there, the lady told us what were available. Then when she drove us to the empty unit, she sped through the complex and not even told us what they had to offer there. As we got to the building and parked, she got out really quick and left the car running as we went to view the empty unit. While we viewed the apartment, she looked like she was in a rush and was bored. So we left and she sped through the complex again and back to the office.

I think this place is just interested in getting your business and care for nothing else about you if you live there. Thank goodness I decided even before I left the place that I´ll never consider looking or living here in the future.

Also, I gave this place a really bad review even though I haven´t live there. It takes just one person to ruin everything.

Safety Hazards
I have lived here for 10 months and considering breaking my lease and paying the price to ensure my family´s safety. We will avoid the clubhouses from now on. My wife has been approached by characters who appear to be prowling for venerable women. Security concerns brought to management are ignored. We have to do our laundry at phase one on crowded Saturdays for fear of rape.

If you live in phase one, you would be well advised to let your loved ones carry a handgun after taking gun safety classes. The management will do nothing to help you.

A Suggestion
I would like to make a suggestion on the entrance gate arms to the owners of Idlewylde, why not put some spikes and barb wire on them!! I´ll bet the next time someone tries to skip in behind another car or pass through this might discourage them. I feel sorry for the Management, a new entrance arm was installed and it wasn´t even 48 hours and it was distroyed. I´m guessing this was the 8th or 10th arm replacement, maybe a camera installation would also help. I guess the best idea is to make sure tenants can read, if they can this should never happen, it plainly states on the gate and arm,"one car at a time!"

I have lived at Idlewylde for over 4 years and have found it to be very pleasant. It is not problem free, but it is better that any other complex around. Any complaints that I have had the staff has been pleasant and helpful.

Nice apartments, horrible security
I have been living here for a year now. Idlewylde has nice ammenities for children, that is why I moved here. The kids pool and playground are very nice. I also like the apartment that I am living in. That being said, I have not been able to use any of the ammenities after 3:00 on any day. The brand new basketball court was ruined within one month of its opening. The billiards room has also been destroyed. The gym is always full of non residents. I have brought this to the attention of the management and have seen absolutely no results. It is ridiculous. My car has been broken into while parked in front of my apartment.

The only problem is that this is the only "upscale" apartments in this area. But they are going down hill rapidly. Need more security!!!

Looking out for you
People, I will be as nice as I can when passing on this information. My points will be brief because I´m sure you will be able to figure them out.

1.)Section 8 housing, all around.
2.)Access gates never working
3.)Screening of applicants has diminished considerably.
4.)Beautiful ameneties however, most of the time they are being utilized by outsiders.
5.)Drive in here on a weekend around 11:00pm. and you will see the chaos.
6.)Check with the Gwinnett County Police department and request a history on the calls to this complex.
7.)Noise, Noise, Noise.

Grant it, this is an apartment complex and some things are expected however, some issues can be avoided. ADVERSE SELECTION. This means, screen your applicants. Sure you will have some bad apples slip through the cracks but a good screening policy will cut down on the nonsense. Enforce your threats. Hey management, HOLD YOUR STAFF RESPONSIBLE. My complaints are concerns that I brought to the attention of "GAIL" upon my move in and I was reassured "she" had a handle on it. Not a year later and the situation is getting worse. Unfortunately, I can´t purchase a home due to my frequent relocation but anybody thinking of moving here, well, THINK AGAIN.

My bedroom is my broom closet
I´m going to very blunt about my feelings on Idlewylde Apartments so if you are easily affended you may not want to read this.

I live in the smallest and cheapest apartment in the complex. The living room is huge, the kitchen is okay, the bathroom is awesome.....BUT the bedroom is so small I can´t even bend over without the light fixture goes straight up my ---. I would rather sleep in the bathroom because there is more room.

I strongly suggest that you spend the extra 40 bucks and get the extra 10 square footage.
STOP Read this before you move in
I am in the new section of the apartments (phase 2). To any one considering moving in I would recomend the old section over the new. The new ones look nice and they are but over time the shoddy construction shows through examples, A)the 3 way switch to the living room ceiling (fan in my case or whatever you put up) does not work from either wall switch ,B) units only come with light fixtures in the kitchen, dining, and bathrooms (typicall but the old ones have these fixtures), C) the bar and the living room media centers have both come loose separting from the wall D)our back door does not close all the way and when they came to fix it they just yanked on it some and then realized that they needed to file the door sill only to file it down so much we now have a gap in our back door. E)Our ac unit has competely frozen up on 2 occassions F)while the amenities are very nice and the best of any apartment in the area they are so over run with the section 8 people from the apartments around us that it is impossible for actual residence to use them esp in the evening (i went down there last night and I counted no fewer than 30!!! ------ that did not live there trying to play basketball in the small indoor court I know they weren´t residence b/c when I had the police escort them out I was the only one that rasied his hand when asked who lived there(THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE so don´t think that I have social issues w/ ------ the fact of the matter is that they were all black and they did not live there) Be rest assured though that the tennis courts are always open and free of non-residence. I have lived in both phases and for the money the old ones are of better quality and even cost less money. While I do not have a problem with any neighbors or the noise the security is horrible I have had my car vandalized twice, by residence I am not sure but 2 times is 2 times too many. I will not even mention the speed bumps they just put in so, HORRIBLE!! Any one with a performance car or lowered ride be careful. Considering all this has happened since March 1st I am not looking forward to the rest of my time in the new section. VIVE La Phase One.
Not a bad deal, nor was it a bad place to live, but addmittedly, they have problems with noise and all the usual draw backs.

When I moved-in around December 99, the ´old area´ was still under construction, and the fire alarms mal-functioned constantly, or were pulled by some thug.

Given their clientile and the surrounding communities, you´d think you were living closer to downtown; it´s not typical of the burbs or as quiet mind you, but I did feel safe there. But I was as annoyed by the very late night chaos in the parking lot, usually on weekend nights, when at 3 or 4 or 5 a.m. I´d awake to a scuffle outside my bedroom window, some freak howling at the moon, or a loud troupe of drunken residents stumbling to their apartments.

And if you´re trying to commute downtown - plan on at least an hour each direction. There´s easy access to 85 and 316, but weaving your way to Spaghetti Junction at 7:30 a.m. was an awful start to my day! But, hey - it´s Atlanta, and you get used to it.

Other comments from residents concerning the office and maintenance staffs, etc., I never really expereienced. They attempted to charge me for a new stove upon move out for a minor ding on the stove top, though. We fought for a few days until they agreed only to order a replacement part instead. The guy was a complete dork, but the community manager was more reasonable, and the situation was ultimately resolved.

I would consider living there again if I was to work in NE Atlanta, outside the beltline, but knowing now what I didn´t then: were I to work downtown again, I´d pay a few hundred extra bucks each month to live insider perimeter. It´s worth it.

Great Location - Bad Management
Overall these apartments have potential, but they need to fix some major problems. The anonymus writer from 12/3 gives an acurate description of the problems facing these apartments. Even though the writer has racial issues with this neighbors, they are completly accurate (GA does have a law about how many people can live in a one family residnce). I have also nearly killed several people that were walking in the center turn-lane of Boggs Rd. (Skin color is not the issue, please people "wear white at night"). The near by apartments are bringing this other wise fine apartment complex down. The children can also be a problem, both for others and themselves. They tend to play in the high traffic areas and the complex has many blind corners that kids on bikes don´t think about when they cut to the inside of the corners (It´s a good thing your heading home cause you´ll need a change of pants after nearly colliding with an 8-year old on a bike). The management has sent out warnings about unsupervised children, but everyone knows they are not going to evict someone when they can even fill the apartments they had (before the construction). The management sends out plenty of "Idle" threats.

My #1 complaint is the customer service from the property management. I dispise being treated like a second rate customer. The management puts on a good show, but when it comes down to it, it is all a show. My issue is why they would offer better rent deals to people who don´t even live there yet. I was told that because I was a current resident the special rates did not apply to me. How messed up is that!! This one comment caused me to look at purchasing a home. I now love home ownership. When will businesses understand that if you can´t satisfy the customers you do have, you shouldn´t go out looking for new ones?

Thinking of moving in... need advice from complaining resident
Looked at the new Phase 2 apartments, which are really nice inside and out. I am a bit concerned though about what the poster with the complaints said about the complex. Due to my situation (going to school) and my husband´s situation (working in downtown) we need easy access to 316 and 85. Boggs Rd. seems to give this, but I am concerned about the safety and the situation with neighboring complexes. They did seem a bit sketchy. To the person with the complaints - is the noise comparable to what you have in most complexes or is it more? I have lived beside a construction site for 18 months now so I am quite used to waking up at 6pm due to noise. Also, do you feel safe? Are most residents families, singles, or the crowded illegal alien situation you describe?

I´ve been at Idlewylde since June of 2000 and I´m only moving now because my girlfriend´s apartment is closer to her work.

My overall satisfaction is pretty high. Only a few complaints which all center around the office staff. They all seem to be a little on the slow side and I´m not known for having a lot of patience for people being dumb on my time. Ex: Water main break two days before New Year´s 2001 -- no notice to the people living in the apartments involved, no idea when it would be fixed when I called (it took 3 days), and no break on rent when it was all done. Think about it -- a New Year´s party without a shower in two days!

The place is pretty safe, with only one incident that I´m aware of (an assault in my building last year). Only the usual problems with little kids running around in the streets, but they´ve sent out a note telling people they´ll be evicted if they´re children are caught without supervision twice.

It´s pretty quiet now that they´ve added on the new section as a good percentage of the apartments in the old section (finished in October of ´98, I believe) are now empty with people wanting in the new section.

Oh yeah, and forget about using the laundry facilities... four washers / dryers for the entire old section, but they do have hook-ups in the apartments.

Regarding the Dec. 17th post, a couple of points. The reviewer is probably a paid employee of Idlewylde whose job is to prop up an apartment complex that is heading for financial challenges in the future. If you think it´s okay to stuff more people than is legal into one apartment, then more power to you.

This site is dedicated to enabling people to provide real life experiences living in various apartment communities to help others who are looking for a place to live. This includes providing anecdotes, like having fireworks shot into your building at 1:30 AM by a band of ethnic thugs who enjoy tormenting working class people. It includes relating experiences with minorities who have a different set of manners and have no problems laying on car horns at all hours of the night. Maybe you´re a minority who doesn´t mind those things. I do. I personally had to go outside and tell a drunk African-American to stop reving his engine while drinking a six pack of Schlitz one night because he didn´t have the sense to know not to do that sort of thing. Fortunately, his mother came to his aid and drug him back inside.

As for AT&T, it is perfectly within bounds to complain about the quality of the utility services of apartment complex. If the service is too expensive, too inadequate, etc., it´s within the power of the management to change to something better. This is from personal experience with AT&T while living at Idlewylde. Losing your cable and/or Internet and being told that it will take weeks to fix is not a good thing and people should be aware of this before moving in. There are plenty of other utility providers who do a better job. The comments made by the poster on Dec. 3rd are those of a corporate shill who doesn´t want you to make an informed decision that will help you to have a nice relaxing stay at an apartment complex.

Great Place
I´d like to say that this complex is wonderful. I live here and it has been a great expereince. It is clean, modern and well worth the money. The person who made the post on December 3rd is an idiot with racial issues he/she needs to confront. I´ve lived in this complex for about 9 months now and it has been nothing but pleasant. Yes, there are kids that play (as kids do), but management has asked that parents keep an eye on their children for safety reasons.
One thing the previous poster doesn´t realize is that there is always noise when you live in an apartment complex, but his/her views appear to be exagerated. Buy a house for crying out loud and stop your whining. Idlewyled apartments is a place I would recommend with no doubt in my mind!

Oh yeah and for the previuos poster, if you have issues with AT&T tell it to AT&T because I don´t care! It has NOTHING to do with reviewing Idlewylde.
These apartments were fairly nice when I moved in to them in the summer of 2000. Since then, they´ve changed management and have gone down hill. Quite a few -------- (READ: illegal aliens) have moved into the complex. The mgt. lets pretty much anyone in now and I live next door to an apartment with an indefinite number of illegal aliens. There has been one reported robbery in the last six months and I´ve been directly involved (unwillingly) in a domestic problem involving a neighbor´s brother. The standards for getting in are low because they are in the process of constructing a large expansion, this during an economic recession. The neighborhood is fairly noisy, lots of roaming, screaming kids and people laying on the car horn at all hours of the night. The adjacent apt. complexes contain a number of people of the darker persuasion who enjoy walking in the middle of Boggs Rd. late at night where there no street lights. I´ve almost killed five people now while driving down the road´s suicide lane before turning into Idlewylde Apts. Atlanta and its surroundings are not known for their intelligence.

The only silver lining to Idlewylde for me was the high speed internet access thru AT&T Broadband. Unfortunately, whenever there is an outage, it takes DAYS and DAYS for AT&T to fix the problem. Customer service would schedule appointments during work and then not show up or call to say they weren´t coming. AT&T is really a horrible company when it comes to customer service. I disconnected by service altogether because I was just too exhausted to keep fighting with them.
