I moved....... out of the city.
I was a happy renter for about eight years;(loved the pool) even though my cars were vandalized in the parking lot three times. Moved into new renovated unit for a year 2005-2006 at $730.per month. Nice kitchen, new washer & dryer; but less space. Less kitchen space, less closet space, no storage space. Ants mice, beatles; problems with trash pick ups and high rent. The level of violence and crime in Baltimore and the high rent led me to move out of the city out of state. The whole city needs anger management counseling. You do not get what you pay for. It's not NY, DC, or Miami or San Franciso. It's Baltimore. Duh Hon! Enjoy the "Wire" live everyday and the senseless violence in any local neighborhood at what price. I'm glad I left.

i love living here!
The management staff are great and very helpful. They know their stuff. When a problem arises, mantenaince is there within the hour, even during the late evenings. I don't feel like I live in a dorm. I believe some rules were put in place to keep certain people out and so that management can continue to provide a nice place for its tenants. I defintely recommend living here!

good managment
My fam. and I lived here for one year, our 1st night here the tub was cloged and 1st thing the next morn. it was fixed, maintnance is very responsable and get the job done!I asked for help with simple things like putting up a coat hanger, ive even asked for paint!I had an incedent were there were possoms outside my door and traps were laid out that same day,im just amazed on how quickly they respond and how helpful they've been! The location is great ur close to hosp.,schools, supermarket, pharmacy, post office, bus stop and more! The exercise room is comfortable, pool is average and the property is always clean and well kept!Iv'e never seen any mice or roaches inside nor outside my apt. and i lived on a 1st floor! The school bus picks my child up and drops her off right in front of my door. Our trash is picked up from in front of our door!Lots of lighting at night out doors. My only complaints are that there's not enough closet space walls are thin and rent was increased! I had a car stolen while parked outside at night and there is a "security patrol"but hey that happends everywhere!Overall i would recomend living here!

Gone down hill
Now called The Renaissance Club, this place has gone down hill within the last few years. New management makes renters feel as though they're living in a dorm. The manager, Alicia Braxton and staff are not well educated, rude and can not answer simple questions about the on-going renovations. Mice, ants and smelly hallways are not the type of extras I like to pay for. A one bedroom is almost $900.00. For this, you get management that enters your apartment at their leisure. Renovating workers and maintenance staff have easy access to your apartment. I know of a few incidents in which workers used tenant's phones to call out of the country. The Renanissance Club currently has over 60 units that they can not rent due to high priced rent and poor management. The only good thing is the location. And that's not worth the price, either.

Not worth it
I lived in the complex for over 6 years. The 1 bedroom apartment is small with limited closet space (Its funny that when I first moved in, I received literature that the apartment was 580 sq ft and now they are advertising differently...). My rent has doubled since my first lease. Frequent inspections are the norm and the management are unproffesional. It felt like they were invading my privacy. As someone mentioned they will even pick about one's housekeeping style. I had a neighbor who received a letter from management since she had dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Duhh...it was a small load from breakfast and she was waiting till the end of the day to start the cycle. Parking can be a concern depending on which building you reside. For the last few years I was there, parking was never close by which can be irritating. Trash was a concern because their schedule for pick up didn't match my work schedule and they would leave notices about fines. I left for work around 6 am so thats when I carried it out. On my days off, trash pick up wasn't timely and sometimes it never happened. I stayed because I loved the accessibity to the shopping areas. Rent increases occur each year. I finally had enough and refused to pay another increase for an apartment that was insufficient for my needs. I was shocked at how rude the personnel was treating me when I notified them that I wouldn't renew the lease. The first business day after move out was the only day they would allow for a walk through since I wanted to be present. They charge for everything. I had a drip pan with a scratch and was charged in addition to 2 stains on the carpet. They went through everything with a fine comb though I've been in that apartment for 3 years. What happens to normal wear and tear? (I moved into a renovated model then...the only difference is new cabinets, appliances, added a washer and dryer to the storage closet so bye-bye storage closet and knocked out half the wall in the kitchen to put a counter). Renaissance Club need to appreciate the tenants that are keeping them employed. Its truly sad how they treat their clients. I've seen many tenants leave and now its my turn and I rejoice with my exit. Good riddance.

MICE MICE EVERYWHERE!
At first I would see the occasional mouse and was not extremely concerned, then mouse poop started to appear EVERYWHERE in spite of how much I cleaned and cleaned. There is mouse poop in places I didn't think they could get to. It is so unsanitary and disgusting. So I started to set traps. I caught 15 mice in less than 4 months and there are still more to be seen. The complex management sent in exterminators early this spring, but they simply set up sticky traps which are completely ineffective. Have read the other reviews, I am obviously not the only one who has experience this problem. It angers me that I have to spend my own time and money to deal with this mice problem...and there are still so many that I can't get rid of them. In every apartment I have lived in before, I have NEVER even seen a mouse. Unless you like sharing your living space with little brown creatures scampering about...beware.

STAY AWAY
For three years I was in heaven. All of a sudden, the complex started letting in the locals and the complex went to hell. Cars started getting vandalizes and people kept getting stranger and stranger. It was rumored that a man stuck up an unsuspecting couple walking to their apartment, however nothing changed to make us safer. Management never even sent out a response or a warning. There are a number of things that need to be taken care of at Loch Raven. The office staff is very friendly, never had an issue with them, in fact they are the reason I stayed so long. However, the friendliness of the office staff was not enough for me to stay there, especially after the complex became infested with mice. Yep, mice. I literally had to watch where I stepped fearing that one would run across my feet. I kept a very clean apartment and was not going to tolerate nasty rodents in the apartment. Management sent the exterminator several times, but the mice in Baltimore City don't die nor are they scared of people. Needless to say, I left. It is unsanitary to live in the manner that I lived and also the manner in which people still continue to live. I know it sounds "cheesy", but I pay rent for me and if the mice don't pay rent, they have no right to be there.

I like the apartments
I like the apts I notice it is the best around the whole loch raven area from top to bottom of the loch raven area. The apts will be what you make it. I love the pick up trash method if you don´t put your trash out at night you have no problem except sometimes the cats and birds open your bags but so what you are getting your trash picked up.I love that you have your own entrance to your apt. I don´t like the raising of the rent all the time that is what would make me move. Ms. Wilson the apt manager is real nice.

Happiness Faded All To Quickly
Shall begin with electing to rent a one bedroom, bottom floor, w/backdoor apartment which faced lovely lush green grass. Rushed out and purchased hunter green foldable lawn chairs and tables. This back door gave me quick access to the pool and the laundry facilities. Two months later the news bulletin is circulated, "sorry, no grilling is allowed". Month or so later the iron clad gate is erected (no more quick access). The club house that tenants thought was intended for them (NOT!) was always rented out to organizations and upper staffs private parties. The back door became the revolving door to welcome "rodents" it was a constant problem. Especially neighbors who would set out there garbage in the evenings, or the contractural trash pickup service would not show - and there is everyone´s garbage sitting on the front lawns in the evening. On-staff maintenance provided sticky traps - (after hour emergency/problem was a joke)the entire stay as bad as the rodent problem was ONE visit from an outside professional exterminator. Management at that time could care less of any complaints of a nuisance neighbor - allowing duration until lease was up. For ex: if you have six apartments and five of the occupants of that unit is continuing to call, write, etc., of number six there is a problem! I hated the way management (then, hopefully no more) treated the Leasing Agents and Maintenance.

If someone is seeking a quiet atmosphere, with guaranteed 24hr maintenance service in less than two hours - please continue your search.

terrible street noise
This apartment complet was my home back in 1978. The street noise was terrible! Loch Raven and Joppa Road is a busy intersection. Unfortunately the apartments could do nothing for the noise.

Also, they could do nothing for the Raleigh bicycle that was stolen from me in the basement.

Would not wish upon my worst enemy
1. My rent was reasonable, which is the best thing I can say about this complex.

2. The management offers tenants the "luxury" of having daily pick-up of trash Mon-Sat. mornings before 9 am. Of course, the company that Loch Raven Apts. used picked up the trash at various times of the day. Of course, this would be fine except the squirrels and crows came from far and wide to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast each day. The animals would proceed to scatter the food throughout the grounds. I could mark the calendar by the "treats" that awaited my return home from work. On Tuesdays, the lawn was strewn with chicken bones. On Saturday, fish bones would be scattered instead.

3. One Sunday, I was fortunate enough to make the acquaintance of an all-too-appreciative rat who made a lovely meal with one of my neighbor´s discarded loaves of Wonder bread. When I dialed the emergency number to report my meeting with the rodent, the maintenance man advised me that he would place baits in the bushes lining the walkway. I, in turn, advised him that the trash left on the walkway was more than enough bait for Mr. Rat. In fact, the rat was now on to his second course of, what appeared to be, yet another neighbor´s leftover roast beef. I advised the maintenance man further that perhaps an exterminator was needed to relocate the rat to parts unknown. Unfortunately, the maintenance failed to appreciate my advice. He did, in fact, ignore my pleas for a rat-free living environment.

3. The pipes inside the apartment house burst causing water stains on the walls. Soon, mold began to grow on the walls which was accompanied by a foul odor. When the management office was notified of such, they were non-responsive to say the least.

4. The walls are paper thin. Every weekend, you will be soothed to sleep by the wonderful sounds of rap music blasted at the highest possible decibels that $ can buy. You will also be treated to the sounds of your neighbors´ telephone conversations and any domestic disputes that may arise. Again, management failed to adequately address this problem when it was brought to their attention.

5. If the previous problems were not reason enough to dissuade one from moving into this gem of a complex, then bear in mind your "reasonable" rent will be raised significantly after your first year. Management will claim that the reason for the rent increase is to allow for the increased operating costs.

6. Also, please allow for numerous and substanial delays in the return of your security deposit.
