moving

YES! so glad to see white people moving in today! I was getting nervous seeing all the city people invading the complex. All the YO's are starting to get out of control. I was begining to think it's time to make that move to Caroll County. I feel bad for the homeowners around here. They're all complaining about the element of the complex. If not for this complex, Pine Grove would be a great school again.

    So glad I moved here.

Out of all the places I've lived, this has got to be the best. I feel safe in the parking lots, the lighting is great by the way, and I don't hear gunshots or people wandering around at night like I did when I lived in other complexes. The people at the leasing office are really nice to us, and help us out whenever they can. (I've dealt with some REALLY nasty leasing consultants before, so this is quite refreshing.) There's a school right across the street, where are daughter will be going when she's old enough. Our church is literally right down the road, close enough to walk on a fair weather day. This winter, the staff was very good about salting the walkways and steps! The trash is always on time as well. As for security; we've gotten our cars broken into on three different occasions when we lived in other places (essex, dundalk, and the city) but HERE it's been two years and nothing's happened in the way of theft or vandalism to us! All in all, it's a pretty good place. I think the big critisism I would have is that there's sometimes a fight for parking spaces. Sometimes, not all the time. They're not designated spaces or anything. We've also been having a problem with the ventillation system in our apartment, dust and some mold spores and such, but I hardly think that's a wide spread problem.

I was considering moving back to Doncaster Village Apartment. HOWEVER, after hearing about the shooting that took place there this past week on the news, I decided to stay in the safer, quieter, and cleaner apartment community I now live. I drove into Doncaster Village Apartments this past week, and the apartment community looks just as filthy and unkept as it did when I left 10 years ago!

        drugs doncaster

I live at Doncaster for a couple of years now. I also notice the changes to the complex. I see people smoking pot at the playground at night. The lighting situation is a joke. The play area (where my kid plays) at the corner of Kingstree is pitch dark in the evening. Labor day weekend, I noticed a couple of African-American males hanging out there till 2A.M. doing drugs. I called the police, but by the time they arrived, the thugs were gone. I also notice thug like people loitering on the lot selling drugs on Kingstree. I don't let my child play at the play ground anymore. I talked to my husband about moving, and we are looking for another place. It's too bad, we like this area, but we can see what's coming. I think the management needs to look more carefully at the people they're renting to. I work the night shift and arrive home around 3A.M. Let me tell you, It's a little scary seeing young people hanging out on the lot, smoking pot and seliing drugs.

Management cheats and lies. More drugs, excessive noise, crimes and gun shots

The management staffs lied about neighborhood safety, and drug problems, and moreover they automatically renew one's lease without a single notice or any deadline. Still not sure about the gun shots, check out the local police reports. I remember there were stabbing cases, too. As a matter of fact, some one broke my car window to steal my GPS around Christmas of 2008. If you don't care about a rock star playing rock and roll beginning at 11 pm on most weekends, be my guest and just sign the lease with them. I am sure they will invent ways to cheat and trap you there.

            Love It!

The people on this site give such a bad impression of this complex! And most of it is just untrue. Yes there were fireworks on June 19th. But if you bothered to follow up and call the police, or leasing office the next day you would have found out that they were fireworks set off by kids, not gun shots. There were a few isolated incidents of crime late last year, but an we go for walks at night all the time, and have never had a problem. We live in the small part of the complex off Old Harford, maybe thats the difference, but everyone that I know that lives in the complex is very happy. There are lots of families, and I've never felt unsafe. The office staff is alright, maintenance is prompt and usually things are fixed the first time around ;) Anyway, I love it here. And will renew my lease when it comes up in the fall.

It really is a GREAT place to live.. Just choose wisely

I love living here at Doncaster. When my husband and I chose our new home, we chose a court tucked away and backed by the beautiful woods. We hear no noise whatsoever. Our gas & electric bill is less than $90 beacuse of the properly insulated apartment units. I think people only have a problem living here if they chose a more noisey part of the complex. We were smart and chose the other side of Doncaster... where it is quiet, beautiful & we actually have too much parking space : )

Happy with some things but mostly disappointed

Wow I agree with all of those comments. I thought I was just being picky. My fiance has yelled at some kids for shoting fireworks in the middle of the night in our parking lot. I didn't realize there were multiple gun issues. I keep odd hours myself and luckily the parking lot is right there so it's a short walk to my apartment; but it is scary to think people are lurking around. I am glad you all posted those comments. Yes, they are charging for water, and our choices are to sign and pay or move out. I feel guilty because we are two people and I am sure we use more water than one person, and certainly less than a larger family. It is not a clever system. And, adding in the extra quarter for laundry is insulting. I generally like our apartment complex, but the management is kind of stingy and I have had a few serious issues with maintenance. There was mildew in my shower and closet and they kept telling me they fixed the problem, and only when we wrote a letter to the owners did they actually fix the problem. Either they are very stupid or thought I was, because the excuses they continued to give me were absurd. By the way, we are leaving this month. Signed; Renter in 1 Shawnee Court

                    Its What you make it

i have lived in Doncaster for a couple of months now and i have no complaints at all. the neighborhood is nice and quite. They have landscapers working on keeping the area beautiful every morning, trash is never overflowing cause they have pick up every week. The only problem i would have to say was the plumbing incident i and i had use the bathroom in another building but that wasnt so bad cause it was fixed the very next morning. So if you are looking for a nice cheap place to live i say Doncaster is good. Esp if your a Student (like me) i go to Towson university and my rent is only 830 that is great compared to housing. I really like it at Doncaster. I never seem any drugs or bad children or anything. I see families that walk by and say hi. you see what you wanna see....

                      Drugs have come to Doncaster!

It pains me to write this. Some of my neighbors have seen strange people/activity in the complex over the last few months. Well, My worst fears have come true. I saw a drug bust go down on Kingstree, near the play ground last week. Police locked somebody up at gun point. I can not believe this crap has found it's way to our quiet neighborhood. According to the police, People have been spotted selling drugs in the area of Kingstree, Landrum, and Barnwell courts. Police tell me, management is aware of the problem, but have not taken any action to date. If anyone sees anything unusual, please call 911 and report it. Also, it's very important to contact the main office at (410) 296-4800 and advise them of the problem. Lets not wait for another shooting. I think the management company is accepting section 8. My lease is up in three months, and I'm moving. I have lived here for three years now, and have seen the complex decline steadily. I have children, and this is too much for me to handle.

                        Peeping Tom's too!

About a month ago I had an incident occur where I rolled over to see a white possible --------(due to the yellow lights)man in his mid 40's short brown hair, staring at me through my bedroom window at midnight. The police were unable to catch the guy but they did discover a series of trails that run through the woods off of Shawnne down to Walther and Bradwell Ct. The K-9 unit lost the scent of the guy on Bradwell Ct, concluding that he had a car parked there or he lives down there. After speaking to several neighbors that are backed up to the woodline also, they've told me that they've seen people back there over the past several months stopping at windows. The leasing offices response was that they have no control over the wooded property.

                          In my fifth year now

The floor boards are pretty thin and I'm on the second floor, but the people upstairs who never go to bed moved across the street, and the couple upstairs now are actually quiet. I barely hear their footsteps compared to the last two couples up there. Some things just happen. Stuff leaks, stuff stops working. I've had several things needing attention in four plus years, but maintenance thus far has always taken care of them in a day or so. I don't blame the apartments or management for things breaking. If I start getting attitudes or being made to wait too long for service, then I'll have a problem. Or if the same thing keeps breaking. The shooting was way on the other side of the community. I'm right near the townhomes and the newer people renting them are way noiser, but not enough to scare or drive me away. Rent has gone from $585 to $709 five leases later. I'm not ready to leave yet. Most of the time I'm fine living here.

Shooting Causing Residents to Move Out!

The anonymous individual posting "Shooting not a reflection of the community nor the complex" must be management. It sounds just like the letter the residents received after the shooting. It is true that crime is everywhere, but when it happens in your backyard it makes you rethink. I've lived in Doncaster for almost a year and I loved it! It was very quiet. But, after the recent shooting I will be moving out. There has been a lot of activity lately in Doncaster Village. About a month or 2 ago a SWAT team of 15 people jumped out of vehicles, with their bullet proof vests on and guns drawn, they ran into a building on Shawnee Court. And I've also seen a lot of police in the area, which does not make me feel better. There's obviously a reason they are there. I've seen suspicious people standing/sitting outside late (after 11pm) on the corners of the entrances of Doncaster. The lighting in the parking lots is very poor. Lastly, I don't understand their per policy. Sometimes they allow dogs and sometimes they don't. I see several people in the community with dogs. And also with puppies that they just got. I guess it is not an Equal Opportunity Housing like they state.

                                Could have been better

Overall, I have to say that I generally felt safe, however I recently moved out. I have to completely agree that the parking is horrible, however when I left they were working to change that by contracting with a towing company. I am not sure what good it did though because no one is required to have a parking sticker. The pool wasn't that great. It could be noisy (depends on your neighbors) but I only ever heard them when they showered. The rent increases were too much (at least fifty per year) and when they added water to the rent I left. The apartment was not worth what I was going to be expected to pay (including water, it would have been over a hundred per month increase). I never had a problem with the leasing office, mainly because I didn't request much maintenance. The air conditioner (or whatever is locked in that closet) leaked and all they did was bring in a dehumidifier. So the floor and wall had damage they never fixed. I also had a severe mold problem and the bathroom was too small. I wasn't impressed with the bedroom sizes and when I left, I agree with a previous post that children and ------ started to overtake the community. Towards the end I was nervous coming home alone at night. The walls were crappy and instead of spackling, they put tape over holes and painted that! So, overall, not bad, but not worth what you pay.

This is really funny because how could we do that if we want to get our money back? My other friends have the similiar situation and the management is trying to rob the money from the resident by the ridiculous reasons. Even though it is cheaper than other apartments in the area, but i don't think it worth it if you couldn't get your money back at the end.

I have lived here for a year now and I am currently in a 2 bedroom, but my roomate is moving out so I am sizing down to a 1 in the fall. I have had few problems with maintaince, and the staff are very, very helpful, although I would not accept nor expect anything else. The rent is a bit pricey but for the quality, safety, and convience it's worth it. I am a full time college student and would recommend it to fellow studnets. Now the one thing that has bothered me since the beginning is the paper thin walls, ceilings, and doors, they need to add more insulation to the floors of upper apartments, becasue the noise level is horrible. Not to mention I stay under a noisey child/teen so you can just imagine. But all in all not being form Maryland i was inpressed with the community and the unit.

                                            No Problems!!

While living at Doncaster for a full year, I was fortunate enough not to encounter any problems. The buildings are nice enough and I was always felt safe. Although I could occasionally hear my neighbors if they were excessively loud, it wasn't too bad. I have recommended Doncaster to many friends!

                                              PAIN IN THE A**!

WELL I MUST SAY, THEY HAVE REALLY OUT DONE THEMSELVES THIS TIME. MY BATHROOM STARTED TO LEAK INTO MY NEIGHBOR'S APARTMENT BACK IN OCTOBER. SHE COMPLAINED, AND AS I SAID BEFORE THEY DID NOTHING. WHEN I FLUSH, WATER LEAKS INTO HER BATHROOM OVER HER TOILET. HER TOILET TOP STAYS UP SO THE WATER CAN LEAK INTO HER TOILET AND NOT ON HER FLOOR. WHEN SHE FLUSH, THE NEIGHBOR UNDERNEALTH HER GETS IT IN HER BATHROOM. TO DEAL WITH THIS IS GROSS. I FIGURED IT'S A WASTE OF TIME TO CONTINUE ASKING FOR THIS TO BE FIXED, SO WHEN MY LEASE IS UP, I'M PACKING AS FAST AS I CAN. IF YOU MOVE HERE, DOCUMENT, TAKE PHOTOS AND SEND CERTIFIED LETTERS FOR ANYTHING THAT REQUIRES A REPAIR.

                                                Maintenance is a nightmare

The apartment is ok. My bedroom is huge, I like that we have a dishwasher. Noise is a little problem. You can hear someone taking a shower through the walls, but that doesn't really bother me. I feel safe, except for my creepy neighbor. The windows have been replaced, which has really helped a lot with the drafts. The new carpets are nice as well. Maintenance is horribal though! One of the washers has been broken for a month! Also when my disposal was clogged the emptied my garbage onto the floor and dumped what was in the disposal in the trash can. I'm not sure why they couldn't just take out the bag. Also they stole money from me when I was not home and they were making repairs. It was a very small sum, but it was company petty cash and now I have to replace it with my own money, which feels worse for some reason. It was in an envelope, so I'm not sure why they were going through my things. Other than that it hasn't been bad. I just moved in so I have not had a chance to check out the pool or tennis courts. I have a feeling the rental office is only helpful because I am a new tenant, since when I called to complain about the washer she gave me an attitude until I told her I just moved in. Parking is not bad, unless you get home after 10, and then you have to park a bit further away from the building, but I like having unassigned parking because my roommate and I both have cars. Maybe my standars are low, but I basically feel safe so I would recomend it if they fired their maintenance guy.

                                                  Pain in the A**!

Where do I start. I've lived her for a few years and since new management has taken over, it's been a living hell. When Keelty managed the property, I would call for repairs or to have my unit sprayed for ants. Someone was sent out, either the same day or the day after. I've had times where maintenance would come and say that they don't SEE nothing wrong, but still repaired whatever it was. With new management, it's been like talking to a two year old. I rather not go into specific details of all the problems that I have had and still are having, but one would think because the rent has increased nearly $100, you would never have a problem with getting repairs, upgrades or extermination. The parking is horrible. If you work the second shift, when returning home, you have to park up the street and around the corner from wherever you live, I've never seen a basketball court and as for the tennis court, when I first moved here, there wasn't any nets. They do have a nice pool. Wow! Not!
My advice before moving anywhere and before siging anything, do your research, find out the history of the property and are they planning on doing any upgrades, ask if you could see an actual lived in unit and if they say no or make an excuse look out, visit all of the different rental properties in the area and compare everything, ask about lease agreements and if they offer month-to-month after one year and no matter what, READ YOUR LEASE, UNDERSTAND ALL PARTS OF YOUR LEASE, AND DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE SIGNING ANYTHING. To be on the safe side, take a second pair of eyes. This person my be able to spot something you missed.
Overall, for me, because of new management, things have definitely changed for the worse.
