This is a terrible place to live. It is infested with drug users, low lifes, and slobs. I had to complaine several times to the office about marijuana smell filling our hallways. Then, I finally called the police because management does nothing about it. This is no place to live if you have children. The hallways are filthy, which I had to complain about several times too. At one one point our building had roaches. The management tries to act like they are trying to clean up the place....but it is a lie! It is a shame that they let these low life people stay and good renters like us go. The whole place needs to be bull dozed like they did the projects! We can't wait to move out when our lease is up!

Living here approximately two months. Siding had cigarette burns when moving in, and some rooms had an odor - the apartment had a prevailing "previously lived in" feel. Drywall work was done poorly (lots of joints showing) and I felt some of the fixtures feel/look cheap. Apartment is fairly spacious and carpet is nice. Central air is to be desired. Overall, we're fairly happy - Shawn was a great leasing agent, very nice! Melanie, the Leasing Manager, can be a bit rude and condescending - she is a pain to deal with. I've heard this on other accounts.

      Now living here

I have now been living in my apartment at York Creek for a couple of weeks. I have to say that it's lived up to my expectations. My neighbors are cordial and quiet. They largely mind their own business like me. I've never heard them through the walls. I say that again--NEVER! I had a few maintenance concerns and on the first business day after I moved in, the business office had the maintenance staff take care of them. The maintenance man was prompt and polite. The closets are big with built in organizers. My pantry is large too. You can work off all that food at the gym York Creek has an agreement with: after a $25 registration fee, a gym membership at a very good gym is given. It's not all pros. The cons include the fact that I don't have central air conditioning and the wall unit I have is very loud. The cool air has to be helped to the back rooms by a fan. It gets cold though. The apartment didn't come with a microwave, but there is plenty counterspace for one. My fridge is a little smaller than what I'm used to. Overall, though, these are all negligible. For the price of the unit, I'm pretty happy.

The staff doesn't seem to care about tenants. Had paint fumes coming in for a week and an attempted break in and they tried to pass both off as if they were okay. They tried to claim the attempted break in was a joke. The maintenance is slow to respond and sometimes they ignore an issue entirely. When they do show up they only sometimes do a good job. The roads don't have lines so people drive in the middle of the road. A lot of the other tenants are noisy and rude. The grass is taken care of nicely but there is often trash lying around and they only water grass on the main road so most of the lawns were dead and there was even a brush fire. Overall I likely wouldn't recommend this apartment to anyone unless they were desperate or broke.

          Can't Wait to Move...

I have lived here for almost a year, but there is so many stupid things. My stove would heat up and then shut off and then turn on. I lost so much food due to the issue, it took them almost 4 months for them to just replace it. The next issue is when I look out my sliding door there is trash everywhere and no grass because they dump laundry water and it kills the grass. The worst issue is the smell... every once in a while my apartment smells like a sewer... ewww. I really like the layout of my one bedroom but the building is really kinda boreing and the craftsmenship is poor... I do not plan to stay here as this is my first apartment and it will be my last one here in York Creek. I was really excited to move here but really dispointed...

Not as bad as people say

When I was first looking for apartments about a year and a half ago I read all the reviews about York Creek and they made me worried to move in. However, I stopped reading reviews about York Creek once I started seeing all the racist remarks in the reviews. I am glad I did not take the reviews to heart because I signed a lease for my second year here, and I still like it! I notice people are always complaining about things as if they are comparing it to living in a house, by themselves, in the middle of the woods or something. This is an APARTMENT COMPLEX, and a rather large one! Of course there are going to be all kinds of people here. Of course you are going to have neighbor problems from time to time. If you want everything your way and 100% silence and a yard of your own, etc - buy a house! Specifics about my experience at York Creek: My AC works fine and everything else in my place. When the dishwasher wasn't working right I called maintenance and they fixed it right away. The only "graffiti" I've seen are children's chalk drawings on the sidewalk. I've never had anything stolen or my car broken into. The 24hr security people are courteous and really nice to know they are there. I think the grounds look great - I enjoy taking walks down the sidewalk. There's no trash on the ground and the grass is always mowed. All in all I am happy to be here for my second year. I am likely to sign a third lease even. The price is right and the apartments are large. I know I will probably get a lot of angry comments on this, but I don't care. I've heard enough about how there's "too many minorities" and "the place is ------" - and HAD to speak up about it. If you have such a problem with people that are different than you then you have a bigger problem than trying to find a place to live.

              2 months to go!!!!

My husband and I moved to York creek almost a year ago. We chose York Creek Apartments because it was convenient for us due to my job being close which saved us a lot of money on gas. It was also inexpensive and the apartment is very nice and spacious on the inside. However, it was a BIG mistake!!! The building we live in is the WORST!! You have the trashiest of trash living here!!(All races) You have people peeing outside the building and when you enter the building all you smell is piss. We live on the 3rd floor and there are chain smokers below us so all the smoke rises up in to our apartment. Mind you we have 2 small children that are exposed to this regularly. Not only are they smoking cigarettes but every night around the same time you can be certain someone is outside smoking weed and it spreads throughout our apartment. Let s not forget during summer when it's hot and we have to keep windows open because the AC hardly works, people below us grill with charcoal grills (despite the fact that they are not allowed here) and all that smokes clogs up our apartment. You have neighbors who are constantly yelling and screaming at all hours of the night. We have made several complaints but it just never stops and maintenance doesn t do anything about it. On top of that you have children who run around the hallways, leaving their bikes, toys, food and clothes all over the hallways. We even have random children that constantly beg us to come into our house (Didn't your parents teach you not to talk to strangers??) They run all over the parking area and play on people's cars. You also have parents who are constantly cursing out their children, drunks, drug dealers, thieves, you name it and you will most likely find it here! This is the absolute worst living conditions I have ever been exposed too! If you are going to stay here, I advise that you check out your neighbors and your building before you sign your lease. 2 more months and we are out! We are definitely not resigning a lease here!!!

                      sick of potholes

I have been driving over ENORMOUS potholes when leaving and coming to my building for over six months now. I have brought this to their attention twice and been given the runaround each time. Randy, the property manager, left me a message in June saying these would be tended to within 2-3 weeks and it's now been three months and I have not seen ANY attempt at them fixing this issue. These are not small potholes either, they are 8" deep, a foot wide and there are SEVERAL (at least 10) of them. It's absolutely ridiculous that these are left to get worse and worse, especially with winter just around the corner. I have taken pictures and measurements and plan to send these to the Grand Rapids Press if I don't see anything improved by the end of this month.

I am happy to report that the damaged area of asphalt was cut out and resurfaced yesterday, 9-16-10, the same day as your post. We have been working on bids for this project this summer. I am 28yrs old but I would still rather live with my parents than this hell hole.I am trying to raise my son to be a good and decent human but that is so hard to do when everyone who is walking down the street is screaming ----- and -----.There are tons of kids in this complex but not a single parent, where did these kids come from? I like the location of york creek as im only a couple of miles from work but im beginning to think its not worth it. I dont feel safe keeping my car outside of this building because it will either be broken into or these kids will key it.Please do yourself a favor and pay the extra money for a safer place.Oh and by the way never mention to York creek staff that you need to make sure a building is safe before you rent because they will treat you poorly every other time you deal with them.

It Is So ------ ''I'M READY TO PULL OUT MY HAIR''

I have lived in York Creek Apartments for four months now. I can hear my up stair neighbors run, stump, and scream all day long. On top of that, my pipes knock through out my Apt at least 12 times a day. I have made several complaints to Maintenance, Maintenance Supervisor, and the Resident Director. They promised me over and over again that they would fix these things, but they never did. So I started putting my rent in an escrow Acc. They took me to court, while we were in court they offered me another apartment; In which, I refused. Because they wanted me to pay late fees & half of the court cost,(as if they were doing me a favor). After all this crap I have been through I am still stuck in this thin wall Apt, with loud neighbors and knocking pipes. Even after the Judge ruled, for them to fix it. Once my lease is up, I am buying a house. I will never go through anything like this again. Especially since mortgage cost LESS then rent now days.

A nice place to live....as long as you don't live in the ------ ones.

York Creek has two sections: a really nice, newer side closest to the Four Mile entrance. These buildings, being newer, are very nice. However, once you get close to the office, or beyond that, WATCH OUT. We purposely made sure to get one of the new ones and it's amazing. The buildings look nice, we have a garage and a porch, and a major bonus is the fact that people have to be buzzed into the building. Maintenance crews typically show up within the same or next day to fix your problem, and they keep the sidewalks shoveled in the winter. The only problem we've had is parking. It's a challenge to get a parking spot close to our building entrance sometimes, usually only later at night. Other than that, neighbors are rarely heard (no paper thin walls), and all the utilities are paid, besides electric, so you can stay warm in the winter. Lastly, there are many floorplans to choose from. We started out in a one bedroom and are upgrading to a loft-style for added storage and space. For the price, it's a great deal and a nice quiet place especially for its location in Grand Rapids.

                              Pretty Great!

I've been living in York Creek since May and I'm very impressed. I've lived in mobile homes and apartments for the last few years and I've always had problems with noisy neighbors, expensive heat payments, main windows facing other units (no privacy in those) and no space. We haven't gotten too much into the cold weather yet so we'll see how the heat thing goes with rent and such but every other problem we've faced with previous living places don't exist at York Creek! I never hear my neighbors...I thought we didn't have any until I saw them in the hallway recently. My unit faces the woods so I have absolute privacy and we have a loft, giving us cathedral ceilings and a very open unit, which is really good if you have too much stuff to fit in a "normal-sized" apartment. Pretty much the only downside I've found at York Creek is certain people living around us. They'll smoke in the doorway to the building and prop the door open for their friends to go in and out. Though, our outside door was broken in the beginning (meaning, it wasn't a secure and locked door that they promised us)and we called it in to be fixed--it took a day or two but it was fixed completely. Overall, it's a very good place to live if you like to stay inside and just enjoy a nice, spacious apartment.

Not a nice place to live

I have lived in York Creek for two years now, and will be signing another lease...unfortunately. Due to the economy, and being a full-time student, I cannot currently move. Going down the list, this is how I see York Creek. Parking is adequate, nothing much to complain about there. When it snows though, they can't always keep up with as much as I'd like. That's Michigan for you though. Noise is really all dependant on your fellow tenants and building. Right now, my building is mostly quiet, but a year ago, I got to listen to fights between couples, domestic violence, loud music until 3am...not pleasant at all. And basically everywhere in York Creek you have to put up with noise from people's car alarms and radios booming. The grounds are alright. Nothing special, but it's satisfactory. Safety...now this is the big area of concern here at York Creek. Our parking lots aren't all that well lit, particularly the areas between the garages. I don't feel comfortable walking in or out of the building late at night alone. Sometimes that is worse then others when there are a bunch of people loitering outside the doors. Break-ins of the garages are very common here, and I don't feel like YC has done enough to provide safetey for their tenants. In my little stretch of garages, there have been 3 break-ins in the last month. Each time, York Creek didn't do much of anything. This last time, they broke into every garage (over 30) had the time to unscrew all the keypads, time to drink and spray paint gang signs, and still get away. Needless to say, this should have been took care of the first time it happened. It makes us residents feel unsafe and unprotected when our hard-earned belongings get stolen and the apartment does nothing to stop it. There are drug deals that go on here a LOT. York Creek is well known for the seedy, shady things that go on here. I have walked out of my apartment and found little twisties of plastic, and almost weekly smell marijuana in my halls. I've seen people smoking it on their balcony even. Now to each their own, but I have small children over at my house and I don't want them to see that. York Creek also doesn't do an adequate job of background checking, because there are child molestors that live here. AND drug dealers. I'm talking about convicted people, not someone who I just think does those things. It isn't a safe place for children either, with no place for kids to play but out in the parking lot, and that is unacceptable because people drive like maniacs through it. There are also the many wooded areas I warn the neighborhood kids to stay out of because people throw trash and who knows what else in there. In the couple years I've been here, here are a few things I have seen/heard: A murder, countless break-ins of the garages with things stolen, a friend got her $450 bike stolen from the garage, domestic violence in the parking lot, drunk drivers coming home after a long night, arguments, loud parties until 3 a.m., a man jumped while walking home, over three incidences of people trying to lure children into cars, a drunk man passed out in the hallway with his pants down, and a person attempting to get into an apartment that wasn't his. Given that this is a large community of over 4000 people, maybe it isn't that bad. It's enough though to make me want to warn others that it isn't how the office makes it out to be. Construction and Maintenance is okay. Cheap fixtures, some shoddy work, but overall maintenance does it's best to get to you quick and resolve your problem. Some of them make me nervous, I don't really like such a large number of people having a key to my apartment. The windows upstairs tend to get damp, resulting in mold and water stains. The office staff is okay. I haven't really had a bad experience with them (other than the fact that they completely snow the true atmosphere and make it seem like it's a beautiful place to live). I have heard other people complain about how unhelpful they are when they have a problem. Overall, I would not recommend anyone to York Creek unless you like the inner-city lifestyle. It most definitely is not tranquil like they claim.

                                I love York Creek

For anyone that is contemplating on moving into a new enviornment I have only good reviews for York Creek!! I love it so much hear that I have been trying to talk my children and thier families into moving here. I have lived here since October 2008 and whenever I have had any kind of issue the maintenance or office addresses the issue immediately. Everything is so convenient to get to; resturants, car washes, banks, gas stations, strip malls; anything you need is within walking distance. My neighbors are quiet and keep to themselves. I have had a problem with grafiti being sprayed on my garage; but, the next day maintenance had it painted. The front door was not closing good called maintenance they were there to fix it the same day. Yes there are some bugs that get into the apartment periodically but that can happen in any home. The upkeep of the apartments is spectacular; in the winter they are always plowing in the summer and spring they are always mowing the grass. The dumpsters are emptied on a regular basis. I am sorry for the people that have experienced negative situations; but, it is not as bad as some of them are making it sound. I think it is a very nice place to stay..

Ive had my share of issues in the 2 years ive been here, but nothing to pout over like some of those other reviewers... York isnt all that bad. Theyre affordable, and affordable is a good thing, especially with the way the economy is. York Creek is a decent place to live in Comstock.

York Creek isnt as bad as some of these people are saying. Theyre just over exaggerating. I mainly keep to myself and never have any problems. the rent is affordable, the staff is nice, and the units are up to date. What more do you need? York Creek is cool with me.

So we have lived here in 3 different buildings. The first one was when we just got to Michigan we were living with our friends it was a pretty good place to live but too many weird looking bugs and insects got into the place that was the worst! and spiders ALWAYS spiders!. Now the second place we lived on the middle level by ourselves pretty nice except there was always this noise when the heaters were warming up that was annoying someone even moved out because they couldn't take it!. In that second building there were A LOT of spiders they were always getting in somehow and they were fast! Otherwise that are was pretty calm and such good tenants and everything except for the select few if you know what I'm saying. Now this building we are living in has no privacy as the windows face road where people are always walking by and peering inside we have the noisest neighbors ever! they argue like crazy and there are 2 crazy loud mouth couples on our floor and people playing loud music every once in a while. There have been 3 shootings that I know of, 2 rapes, and I have heard of people's home's getting broken into and people stealing car tires and such, one time they even burned a car right in the drive way it just broke out in flames! at around 2am in the morning, The staff is nice and helpful and they give you the first couple months rent free if you make under what they charge you depending on how much you make per week or hour or day I'm not really sure about that There are 2 dryers and two washers per building 12 rooms per building. People are constantly ringing the buzzer because they "forgot their keys" luckily the eldearly lady who lives next to me always goes out to see who is at the door and I have seen one other person who does that too. The buildings pretty much all look the same a kid got lost and couldnt find his way back home to his building because the placing of the buildings confused him. Most of them have different colors but still I can see why he would be confused. It's affordable and close to walmart like less than a mile close to 7-eleven close to 5th third back close to best buy close to mcdonalds its like a mile to 5 miles close to anything I mean seriously you can just walk if you arent lazy I see a lot of people running around here doing exercise so it's good for that! there is a park very close to us things are close i think you get the point.

                                        Not great but not terrible.

I have lived in York Creek now for almost two years. The area where I live isn't bad. There are two parts to York Creek. The back part behind Four Mile and Best Buy is where most of the apartment are. They are so crammed together, it is like a going through a maze trying to find the building you want. This is where most of the buildings and people are, hence most of the crimes other people have been talking about. I live in the part behind the 7-11. I have never once encountered any of the problems that other people have mentioned. It is quiet, with only five buildings over there. The neighbors aren't loud or obnoxious, I've never had an issue with random people buzzing me to be let in, etc. I don't do laundry in the building, but my roommate does and he has never once had an issue with people being irresponsible. The only thing I really have to worry about is not hitting the kids that like to play in the parking lot when I am trying to leave. That said, the building is far from spectacular. The apartments are decent enough, especially for the price, but they are so outdated. My first apartment here had a brand new dishwasher that I loved. When I moved up stairs, I was horrified with the dishwasher I now have. It is so old and creaky. It likes to stop working at random. Maintenance is good though. When we moved in, we were having several issues with the apartment. The sliding door to the balcony was stuck shut, the door buzzer didn't work, and we had issues with the dishwasher. Within a day of calling maintenance, all of the issues were fixed. Another problem I've noticed is how thin the walls are. I cannot hear my neighbors in their apartments from my own, but we live next to the stair and when sitting in the living room, we can hear every time the building door is opened and when people walk up or down the stairs. You can hear music and the television from others apartments while in the hallway. For me, it isn't an issue per say, but it could potentially be irritating for some. I personally don't trust the rest of the complex, based on what I've seen and heard going on over there. BUT, if you are looking to get into York Creek, I would highly suggest looking into one of the secluded areas, such as behind the 7-11.

Want to be scared for your life? Go ahead and live here, then.

While I was there, someone tried to get in my apartment three times, there were two stabbings right down the street from me, several times I woke up to the sound of cars being broken into, there was a drunken brawl in my parking lot with children standing right there, and there was a shooting. My boyfriend was also walking to his car one morning and he heard whispering voices saying, "Quick, quick, let's shoot him up." I lived in a building with a bunch of families who were pretty much all nice, but they will let anyone who rings the buzzer in, which is how the person who was trying to get in my apartment got in the building to begin with. It got to the point where I was scared the leave my own apartment, and scared to be there alone at night. I know York Creek is huge, and with that many people there are "bound to be problems," but still. There are incredibly sketchy people that live there, and if you have nice stuff and dress like you have money, well, I would watch out.

just moved out, but loved it

I recently got a job transfer to a different state and I wasn't very far into my 3rd year at York Creek. Given my situation, Jay one of the managers there was able to fill me in on the options I had and we were able to come to an agreement. I am very thankful that they provide options for people when their situations change for their lives. I also really enjoyed seeing the maintenance people drive around keeping up on things and, they were always friendly and helpful. The only draw back to living in any apartment complex is when it snows, the parking gets tight, but other than that, my experience was great all around. The rent they charge is so low for what you get. I definitely recommend people ignore the junk reviews on this sight and give York Creek a chance, you'll be surprised at how great the place is.

A: Absolutely, and noise complaints almost always go ignored, OR they take so long to send their rent-a-cop over to check things out people have finally quieted down, leading to a response of "we cant do anything if we dont catch them at it", making me wonder if they arent INTENTIONALLY slow so they dont have to deal with enforcing their rules and the trouble of removing a problem tennant.
