A Year in York Creek

We moved into York Creek apartments in June of 2007. When we first moved in, everything was in perfect condition aside from our dishwasher. We contacted management and someone promptly came and fixed the problem. A few months later, our upstairs neighbor had a leak which started to bubble through our ceiling, and when maintenance went to fix their leak, they came down to make sure that we had no water damage and then fixed what had happened. These were the only things that ever went wrong here at York Creek, and as you see, maintenance was right on top of things. I never had any problems with noise, neighbors, or anything. The office staff are all very friendly, polite, and are more than happy to help you with any questions you may have. Rent is low and it includes utilities [aside from electric], so there are less bills to worry about. I would definitely recommend York Creek to anyone looking for a new apartment, especially those who are just starting out!

great place

The staff at York Creek is exceptional. They always have a positive response to any questions you might have. Each unit has its own enclosed garage which is nice for extra storage and for your vehicle in the winter time.

first of all i would like to say what a great maintanace crew the complex has. they have always been there for me. fast and accomadating. the office crew is very helpful. always patient with me, as i am elderly and they are extra kind. the cleaning crew is very dependable and they keep my hall way and laundry room spotless. sincerely , Donna Banaszak

York Creek Review

York Creek is a nice place to live and relatively cheap. The location is very convenient, as you are by all major food and entertainment stores. It was always warm in the winter, and the garage for my car was really convenient especially with all the snow and ice we received this year. I was not a huge fan of the laundry facilities as my clothes never seemed to dry all the way. It was pretty quiet, although you could occasionally here your neighbors. Sometimes we could smell smoke through our bathroom fan, and our dishwasher did not work to well, but all in all it was a good experience.

My first Apt.

York Creek was my first Apt. and I believe it was a good choice. It was very close to stores and restaurants. It provided a clean apartment with ample space for myself and fiance and also another roommate. All the appliances were in good condition and did not break down or malfunction. The rent was cheap. I would have liked to receive my rent bill a little earlier before its due date. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend it to other first time apartment buyers on a budget.

Nice 2Bed 2Ba

--I have lived at this apartment complex for 8 years now. A good place to live with shopping and stores just seconds away! Garage included is a big plus for myself, as well as the washer and dryer in my unit. Fairly decently priced too! The apts can be a bit noisy sometimes on the weekends, but that goes with any apartment building out there! I have had only two maintence problems in eight yrs and they were handled asap. Overall a good place to live for the money. Im sure there are nicer apts out there but not for 600-under.

awesome place to live

I love this place, they are the cheapest rent for the space they give you! Im a student at Grand Valley and I got an apartment for $499 with cable and electric and gas included. I haven't lived here very long, but since i checked this site before I rented there, I just want to say that what people are saying is true. There are the typical issues with apartment living, but you can't beat the price and the people in the office are really friendly. They aren't there just trying to rent you an apartment, they actually listen and try to help me out. All in all i'm very pleased with my experience so far and I dont forsee that changing.

Less expensive than others

Apartments are decent but nothing special. There are no heating ducts/vents throughout the apartment. Appliances are some good, some so so. Not a quiet place, but not loud like a college dorm. A lot of people smoke that live there; there are cigarette butts all around the grounds, as well as garbage. A good price when you look at what else is in the area, but not much to do around the area.

Upstairs neighbors can be a pain

Ive been here for 4 years. I live on the bottom floor, next to the laundry room. I have a walk out, 2 bedroom bath and a half. Having the garage is nice. However, in the 4 years I have been here, my main problem with this complex is the current one. My upstairs (2nd floor, directly overhead) neighbor is a welfar case with 3 children. They constantly bounce off the walls, run back and forth, and make my apartment sound like I am living inside a snare drum. The headaces from it are nearing migrane in strength. And this is a daily occurance that has been going on for the last 7 months. I have called security on them twice in the last 3 months, my neighbors have called at least twice that I am aware of. Yet York Creek has not moved this family to a ground floor unit, which is where they need to be. Other than that, its an ok place. It is, a complex after all.

good apartment, nice price

I thought the apartment was a good deal for what they offer. Out of all the other complexes I checked out i think York Creek was the most space per unit, so that was certainly a selling point. The parking was always a pain for when I wanted to bring in groceries and stuff into the apartment but otherwise, I only had one vehicle so i just parked in the garage. Noise was kind of an issue when the college kids upstairs would party, but they took care of it any time i called it in... All around, I had a good experience and if it weren't for my job relocation, i would still live there!

Nice apartments . . . in your apartment

The apartments themselves are really nice. Minus a couple typical things that just come with apartment living like dinged up kitchen cabnets and refirgerators. We had a broken window in our loft that never got fixed when asked 3 times. The 2 bedroom lofts are spacious and pretty good as far as sound goes. The hallways are disgusting. they get cleanied about once every 2 months. the window on the 3rd floor in our buliding had no screen and people smoked out of it and that smell got into our apartment. I would recommend these apartments to anyone as long as they are able to put their blinders on untill they get into their apartment.

For what it's worth....

My wife and I along with our 2 kids have lived at York Creek since October of 2006 until March of 2008. We liked the space and feel of our 2 Bath 2 bedroom w\ loft apartment. The first month's rent was free and when compared to others was the best value. We enjoyed the many recreational opporrtunity's that Comstock Park had to offer. Our minor complaint's would include living on the top floor with the laundry on the bottom floor (A very unfavorable set-up for a family of 4). Our neighbor was very bothersome by always imposing here personal problems upon us. I would like to see York Creek add a Play ground for young kids to enjoy. I would recommend York Creek to others. Good Maintenance

i moved in a couple of months ago and just recently had a leak in my bathroom. It was on the week so i was not really sure what would happen. I called the number for maintenance that the office gave to me when i moved in. They came out right away and took care of the leak. They were very friendly about it even though they had to come to my apartment on Sunday. So far i am please with the service i have recieved.

York Creek is a very inexpensive and clean place to live. Parking avalible in many places. Frendly neighborhood and beautiful landscaping throughout. Recomend anyone to live here.

an enjoyable experience

The best thing about this place is i can have the heat as high up as i want and don't have to worry about paying that bill and i love having a garage with a door openner to use to park my car and store stuff in. If you are looking for an apartment with helpful staff they take care of any maintenance problems same or next day and if theres any problem with neighbors like noise they will take care of it right away. Parking is sometimes a problem on the weekends where i lived though if you have more than one car, but other than that, it's not soo bad. Lived here for 2 years and plan on staying many more! I love the discount for renewing!!!

Decent place to live for a decent price

I've lived at York Creek for a couple years now and they are wonderful to me. I have recently had to move out because my family size got too big for apartment living. They really take care of every need that I had while i lived here. I had some issues with some neighbors and they are prompt in taking care of those issues. The only problem I have discovered while living here is that people don't use their garage for their cars so the lots get full sometimes, but really the people are very nice and they do a good job cleaning up the parking lots. I see the cleaner people every day outside when i leave for work. That is way better than any complex i've lived at before And i really like that I didn't have to pay for heat either, it is the best bang for your buck!!

Pros and Cons of apartment living

Overall, my combined living experience with York Creek has been very positive. When I first moved in around May 2000, it was an excelent value for my money; I enjoyed all the amenaties they advertise, plus no city tax on my income and great location to some of the best shopping in the greater Grand Rapids area. The past two years it has decreased somewhat due to the rent increasing faster than my income, but I'm sure the overall economy of the state of Michigan directly affected both. I've noted some very negative reviews and it appears the management is being blamed for inconsiderate renters. I've experience that, too, but I don't feel the management is entirely to blame; they can only accept renters based on the information they are given by the applicants and previous landlords. They can't help that a great number of people lie to their faces while smiling at them during the interviews. I found that the maintenance crew is very efficient, including repairing the front door 1-3 times a week for a period of about 4 months when a renter with multiple children running in and out of the building was pulling the building entry door off its hinges. I had issues, too, with neighbors running overhead or playing music too loudly next door. A simple, pleasant request to kindly reduce the noise level was all it took to resole the issue. I recognize, though, that there are plenty of people out there who have zero respect for the owner's property, the lease they signed or their fellow renters and will live with only their interests in mind. They are the ones who make life miserable for those of us who are respectful and thoughtful tenants that do adhere to the lease and live lives that include being kind to our fellow human beings while getting along in a close community. I am leaving York Creek Apartments next month because I'm getting married and will be moving into my husband's home. While I have had some negative experiences with living in the York Creek community, it's something to be expected in apartment living and given that one cannot expect all the neighbors in your building to live and act as decent human beings with consideration for other people. In a large community, one just has to expect that tenants will include those who refuse to take responsiblity for breaking their leases, breaking the law repeatedly, and live as they choose, regardless of how much they cause grief for anyone else. I lived there for a total of about 5 years and found that, all things considered, it has been a good value for my money. I still think York Creek has a lot to offer a good renter, they DO make efforts to enforce their leases and policies and their maintenance staff responds quickly and efficiently to calls. For those people looking for a place to rent without noisy, uncouth, rude and inconsiderate neighbors, you really need to consider all the pros and cons of appartment living because you don't have a choice but to deal with the good and the bad- it's part of the package. Thumbs up from this tenant!

NICE SIZE BUT...............

I LIVED AT YORKCREEK FOR OVER A YR. IT IS A SPACIOUS 2 BEDROOM BUT THE THING I DIDNT LIKE IN THERE IS THE DRAMA.. WHEN I FIRST MOVED IN A YOUNG GIRL GOT RAPPED FROM HER OWN APARTMENT AND THEN A WHEN I USED TO LEAVE MY WINDOW BLADES OPEN ALL THE BLACK PEOPLE THAT USED TO PASS USED TO STARE AT MY WINDOW JUST LOOKING OUNCE WHEN I WAS IN MY COMPUTER BY THE WINDOW A GUY WAS JUST STARING AND TRIED TI CLIMB UP MY SLIDING DOOR I AND CALLED THE COPS THEN KNOW NOT SO LONG AGO THEY RAPPED A 20 YR OLD IF YOU WANT TO BE PROTECTED I DONT RECOMEND IT THERE IT WAS SO SCARY LIVEING THERE WHEN I USED TO GET HOME AT 1AM FROM WORK AND THERES NEVER NO PARKING LOT, AND PLUS THEY ALWAYS BROKE INTO MY GARAGE AND STOLD MY BELONGINGS AND YORKCREEK ALWAYS USED TO SENT MAINTANCE BUT IF YORKCREEK READ THIS I HOPE THEY DO GET SOME PROFESIONAL PEOPLE TO FIX THE MAIN ENTRANCE DOORS BECOUSE THEY ALWAYS USE TO FIX IT AND U COULD JUST SLIDE A ID IN THERE AND OPEN THE DOORS I DIDNT ENJOY MY STAYING THERE AT YORKCREEK NICE APARTMENTS BY THE WAY

its a gamble

The rent is much cheaper with more space than any other apt with a garage and w/d. storage space is good and it is nice to have an apt that doesnt overlook a parking lot but woods (although most do overlook parking lots). The people around me have been an issue though with fighting kids, loud parties and people selling drugs and destroying property. luckily most didn't stay long, but eventually it circles out with the next bunch of rowdy people who trash the place they live in. I've never had any issues with maintance,they've been great when we've needed them, which isn't often, however i'm looking forward to my year being up.

WE HAVE LIVED AT YORK CREEK FOR ONE YEAR AND WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS RANGING FROM BOYS THAT ARE 12-14 YEARS OF AGE BEATING MY DAUGHTER THAT IS 8 YEARS OLD AND CHOKING HER AND THEY HAD GUNS OUT SIDE SHOOTING AT EACH OTHER AND THE SECURITY HERE DID NOTHING ABOUT EITHER INCEDENT AND THE COPS WHERE ALSO CALLED AND THEY ALSO DID NOTHING WE HAVE HAD ARE CAR KEYED AND EGGED AND OF COURSE YOU GUESSED IT THEY WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT MY SON HAS HAD HIS BRAND NEW BIKE STOLEN TWO TIMES IN THREE WEEKS AND WE FOUND THE BIKE IN A GARAGE BE HIND OR BUILDING MY HUSBAND FOUND THE BIKE WITH THE KIDS THAT TOOK IT ALL TORN APART AND THEY WHERE STILL SITTING THEIR WITH THE SECURITY TEARING IT APART THEY STILL LIVE HERE OUR KIDS HAD A LITTLE KOOL AID STAND SET UP ON THE LAWN AND THE OFFICE WROTE US UO WITH A FIRST AND FINAL WARNING CAUSE THEY WHERE IN THE LAWN THE APARTMENTS DO NOT OFFER A PLACE TO PLAY FOR THE KIDS HERE AND THEY CANT PLAY IN THE LAWN THEY STATE THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE PRIOR APPROVAL FROM THE OWNERS OF THE PROPERTY SO THAT LEAVES THEM TO PLAY IN THE PARKING AREA WHERE OF CORSE THAT IS NOT SAFE EITHER CAUSE PEOPLE AROUND HERE LIKE TO DRINK AND DRIVE AND NOT FOLLOW THE SPEED LIMIT A MAN THAT DID NOT EVEN LIVE IN OUR SECTION ASKED A FRIEND OF OURS IF THEIR WAS ANY KIDS BEHIND HIM SHE TOLD HIM YES AND THAT S.O.B. busy place, rate it 7 out of 10

One of the few places that is affordable, with a garage.<br><br>However, snow removal was slower this year than last. Took me 2 years to get a <br>kitchen drawer fixed properly after several calls. Took 1 call to get garage door fixed properly though.<br><br>They do not offer a cleaning of your carpets every year, as the last place I rented from did. They only offer it upon signing a new lease.<br><br>Managment will work with people who are having difficulties due to the economy providing you don't get too far behind, and do not remain behind in rent - even if you have a 7 year track record as a renter with the company that owns both York Creek and Woodfield Apartments. However after that, watch out. Eviction is swiftly done. <br><br>It is my experance with michigans up and down economy, that some of these apartment complexes are just not working with people who are having a difficult time of making it. As a result, I have been seeing a lot more movings, and vacancies in our, and surrounding buildings.<br><br>They DO keep the noise down. Loud families and obnoxous tenants are removed quickly.<br><br><br>

The rudest place I have ever Lived

I can't believe I stuck around a whole year. This place has been nothing but stressful to live at. The first question I asked was is it quiet. Of course they said yes, WRONG!!! In the whole year I have been there not once did I have piece and quiet. Between the neighbors that are so loud to the punks driving around with their steros so loud it shakes your room. And the people screaming at each other. Its insane. The York Creek staff is NOT helpful. Last night I discovered that they entered my apartment without notifying me so apparently they go in and out of your apartment when they want to. There are cops in and out of there at all times. I have called security numerous times on the same apartment and well the people still live there regardless of their noise policy, guess they think they have money to file a discrimination suit. I have nothing good to say about this place. They have way too many apartments and people to be able to make this a comfortable place to live. Kids running around unsupervised running into cars. No one cars about other peoples belongings. Everyone is rude and inconsiderate.
