Nice Place
I've lived at York Creek for several years and enjoy living here. The maintenance Staff is outstanding, I've never had a problem with them, they are always fast to respond. I enjoy having woods in my backyard, and the landscaping here is beautiful, especially in the Fall. The business and leasing office have always been very friendly and helpful. Of course, you are going to get a loud neighbor once in a while, but there is 24 on call if you have a complaints and they always respond asap to take care of any problems. I would recommend living here.

Been there 6 Years
Diverse community with awsome schools. Great access to Shopping, expressways, sevices, and entertainment. Near 5th/3third Ball park, and the Delta Plex. Just a few miles from downtown, and several parks. Snow plowing, and grounds keeping are great. Nice area.

Nice, Clean and Great Staff!
I have chosen to stay at the York Creek executive apartments on two different occasions in the last 2 years.

I look for a well kept property, clean and a well kept apartment that comes with a superior onsite staff that can take care of my needs.

Some of the reviews that have been posted on Apartment Ratings seem to be a retaliation rather than a comment to help a customer find the right place to live.

York Creek is convenient to a lot of retail stores, schools and downtown Grand Rapids. The apartment I lived in was clean, well maintained and had everything that I needed including a microwave and washer and dryer, and my neighbors were friendly.

The professional staff always greeted me, and quick to offer help when I had the need.

If I were looking for a permanent place to live, I would definately choose York Creek over others because of the great personal experiences I have had livng at the property.

5 years total - and happy!
It's interesting to read over these reviews and find such a difference of opinion. First of all, I was a resident of York Creek apartments for just over 3 years (2003-2006) vacating in September to relocate across state. Prior to that, I lived at York Creek for 2 years (2000-2002) in a different apartment. I am a single, white female with a daughter who chose my home very carefully. I looked around at probably every community on the northside of Grand Rapids and settled at York Creek. It is a very large community with a very diverse group of people. Well, for the individuals that struggle with that, we do live in the second largest city in the state of Michigan and that is what happens in large cities. I am amazed at the personal attacks on people of other races - shows a display of ignorance. Anyway that is another story that has nothing to do with an apartment community and the housing / service that they provide. The office staff was friendly from the first day I set foot on the property. I was shown a few apartments and found the perfect one for me and my daughter. The community is pleasing to look at, and yes there are people who don't care about their home - however the grounds keeper was always out picking up the trash left behind by other disrespectful individuals. My apartment was a great price for the space and with the garage included. Someone mentioned their garge getting broken into, and it's obvious they don't read their lease or listen to the agents. I was told when I moved in that it was not to be used as storage and it was clearly written in my lease as well. I read that, because adults read things thoroughly prior to signing them. It is obvious that some of the individuals that have voiced their opinions on this page are younger individuals who don't sound very responsible or poised. I had to adjust from living in a house to an apartment and having neighbors so close. I heard a few things upstairs, but do you know why that is? Because someone lives up there! It was never an issue that escalated into anything significant, and if it had gone that way, I'm sure it could have been resolved by addressing the issue at hand rather than drawing the conclusion that the whole property is terrible! People are going to be different and have different lifestyles. Living in an apartment community is certainly different than living in a home, but it is what it is. You have someone on 3 walls of you and your may hear them from time to time, as they may hear you. The maintenance staff is great. They addressed all issues in a timely manner. I never had problems with them. I could go on and on, but basically I just wanted to write a review on the place I called home for years. It all goes back to living like our Mom's told us when we were little...treat people and property like you would want to be treated. It's not difficult, it's just something that takes effort. I would choose York Creek again in a heartbeat!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
Unless you are those folk who need a cheap crappy place and are noisy too, then don't live here!
I can hear our upstairs neighbors stomping around like elephants! Now one of them just went into the bathroom, the fan is on. Now they are screaming. Last night, about 3 am, I could here a couple of men yelling at their "-------" for about an hour, as girls were bawling (crack? pimps? who knows!)People puke in the hallway, and maintenance sprays some febreez or something, it still smells 4 weeks later. The noise is out of control. I can't imagine what it would be like if we were in the middle of the building.
Rent is a joke, you can see the price we pay is super high compared to others. White people with full time jobs. but then there are other white people we know with full time jobs who pay close to 100 bucks less... how does that work... they work at the same place? hmmm.
Even if this is just an in between place, don't do it. It will drive you insane and make you a bitter angry person. You cannot relax. People steal things out of your garage, I constantly worry about someone busting through my door or jumping in my window as they are walking by.
You know, just because you can't afford things or you can't speak the language, or you've had too many kids to deal with doesn't mean you need to make the others around you live in the hell you do. They can still be respectful of other people.
Oh yeah, our other neighbors almost stole our cat. She ran out in the hallway, we knocked on people's doors, one guy said his girlfriend found a cat, but had to double check. He came out 3 minutes later to ask for a better description, he finally gave us our cat back. Ridiculous! Just the lowest of the low.
I could write forever.
DON'T MOVE HERE. DO NOT GIVE YORK CREEK YOUR MONEY! THEY DON'T DESERVE IT!
no one speaks english and they all think this is mexico. if you're going to live in the united states have pride for the red white and blue, be happy for your freedom and rights and don't wave the flags of other countries. these apartments are filthy. the hallways are always littered with trash, cigarettes, food and even vomit. once a grown man whom im assuming was intoxicaeted even unrinated in the hall on the mailboxes. what was the managers response? oh, these things will happen. I hardly think so, where i used to live, no one was this barbaric, disgusting and illegal. i cant wait to get the hell out.

Cheap and --------
Keep this in mind, there is no security deposit, only a $150ish non refundable cleaning fee. What that should mean to you is anyone with $150 can move right in. We have been there about 1.5 years and have no real complaints about the complex, pretty quiet and well kept. Our complaint would be the “quality†of neighbors you get, I believe parts are also subsidized housing which means you get a lot of the less fortunate people moving in. The apartment next to us has had 4 different tenants since we have been there, they move in with $150 and don’t pay and are evicted in 3 months, you can imagine the type of people I’m talking about, they don’t care about rent so the obviously don’t care about leaving trash everywhere. I can’t recommend or condemn York Creek, I can only say I’m glad I’m buying a house in a couple months.

Not bad if you get the right unit
I have lived here 3 months, and was very lucky to get a unit on the 2nd floor that faced the woods. Most ground level units face a big mound of dirt & weeds and seem quite depressing. 1/2 of those do not have a patio or doors to get out of. Kinda closterphobic. The parking lots are very large and busy, however each unit gets a garage, which is nice in the winter and makes me feel better about keeping my car here. In the summer, there is alot of "play" in the parking lots. I could not imagin rasing children in this complex, as there really is no space for them to hang out, parking lot aside. Please consider that important point. The walls are fairly thin, however the one time i had to call due to loud people in the hall (for an hour) the maint man responded in 15 min, at 1am. Not bad.
I would recommend this complex to any young couples or people looking for a place to stay when not working. If you are concerned about noise, sunlight or areas for kids to play... please be very careful of what unit you choose. P.S you can haggle a bit on the cat monthy fee (get 2 for the price of one)

uncaring ,antisocial, rude, and dirty place.
Its dirty and smells of cigarette smoke and wee in the hall. The apartment was damp when we moved in.The person next door to us flooded are apartment he left the bath running and it took them days to come out and repair the damage. The people above us kept on throwing lite cirarettes down onto our porch they threw dough and flour down on to our porch they wouldnt stop the loud music and noise all night and had wild parties and they let young children as old as two and three run around all night. dont ever get behind on your rent even if you are going through a bad time and you try and sort something out the wount help you they take you to court and put you on the streets , I dont come from the usa but what i have seen and how people here treat each other . no one cares about anyone its horrible.

Price is great, love garage, quiet..great location!
This is my second time living at York Creek, and I find the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable...yes they are busy..there are over 1700 units here! Not everyone will be happy! The maintenance has been terrific considering what they have to deal with day-to-day! People need to CARE where they live and meet the neighbors so that you can respect each other and their lifestyles. I live by myself, (woman) one the first floor. I have no complaints and my neighbors have been respectful and quiet. (Just like me!) I am thankful for a decent place to live for a reasonable price! I would recommend York Creek to anyone. This is apartment living, if you want to complete quiet and responsibilites of your own inside and outside maintenance along with the taxes, insurance go buy a house and quess what you are stuck if you don't like the neighbors! I am a happy renter! Thanks for reading!

If you love riff-raff you'll love York Creek
I am very glad to say we are moving out of the complex in a few weeks. This apartment complex is dirty, has shady people living here because it offers low rent and is government subsidized (which I just found out) Many many sex offenders live here(check the michigan state police web site) You can hear your neighbors fight, and listen to their bathroom fan running and water run. The apartment it self is nice, however I have always felt un-safe because of the quality of the renters around me, the large number of abandoned cars in the parking lot, and the weekly trips of the police to neighboring bulidings because of riff-raff. This is not a great place to live.

Lived here a lot of years too many but loved my garage.
I have lived in 2 different units at York Creek. The first building was an older building, but never had to call maintenance. I lived in this building for 3 years before moving into a "new" building. I never had problems or complaints about the noise, safety, parking, kids, hallways, front door, etc.
I am now living in what was once the new addition. York Creek could be and should be a great place to live. The problem is the low rent attracts low quality in renters. I am constantly calling maintenance regarding filth/trash in the hallways, loud stereos, dirty laundry rooms and mostly the constantly broken security door. I know this is an apartment but treat like a home where you live.
The first couple of years in this building were fine.
The worse are the kids, parents if your children are well behaved, clean and do not use the foul language than do not move into York Creek, your kids will suffer if you do. The language that I hear coming from the mouths of the kids around my building sickens me. The damage that they do to the buildings by writing on the walls, leaving food and drinks in the hallways, plus they leave their bikes in the hallways or right in front of the door.
This is written from a frustrated tenant that first liked living in this community, but now I am counting the days until I move.
Please do not move in if your looking for a clean, safe, decent place to live.

No single women
I would not recommend living here at all if you are a single woman or have young children. Check out how many sex offenders live in this complex. It used to be great when I lived here 7 years ago, but now it's subsidized housing and it's as ------ as it gets. Abandoned vehicles, stalkers, you name it. I've had 6 incidences of peeping toms, stalkers and 1 or 2 possible rapists. Last night I had it when 2 males stood on my back porch masturbating while I was watching t.v., luckily my 4 year old daughter was asleep, but I had to call the police and have my neighbor run after them to I.D. the bastards. This apartment complex is only suitable for ex-cons and people who just can't afford anything better. P.S. buy a shotgun and know how to use it. When I find you you sick nut, I'm going to make earmuffs out of your balls.

Pissed single mom on walkout level

Apt living
I currently live at York Creek. Just moved in recently. My room mate and i are having problems with a lady downstairs. I do have children who stay with me every other weekend. 9, 6 and 3 are their ages. My youngest being a toddler he walks a lil harder. We have a 2 bed loft. Toys are all up in the loft. Some ppl forget that we do live in apts, not townhouses or a actual house. You will have to deal with some noises as it is apartment living. It's for some and not for others. You are going to hear things every now and then. My kids don't run throughout the apt they know it's not allowed but the lady downstairs seems to be sensitive to the noises. I hear her shut her cupboards, when she leaves and i can also hear someone in the bedroom. We are transfering because we both aren't in violation of our lease. security has been up and has not found a prob. So found it easier for us to just transfer to a more kid friendly building. Parking does suck. the heating is floor heat takes forever to warm up. Thank God don't pay for gas. Something going wrong with the dryer constantly. There are things here and there but they've been friendly so far and especially with the prob i've had. Transfering sucks but i'd rather live in an apt building with less drama. The biggest complaint i have is plowing. But that's always been a prob at York Creek. My advice is remember, it is apt living and there are just some things you gotta deal with. But for the parties, and the loitering that's unacceptable.

I've liked living in York Creek
I have had no problems living at York Creek. I've been living here for 6 months. My building is quiet and I can barely ever hear noise coming from the apartments above and next to me. I've had no problems overall.

Not a good choice
Though I haven't had the problems with maintenance other folks have, I really don't recommend moving in here. On average, my cable is out for a week of every month due to a short in the building. Our parking lot (holds about 20 cars) generally has about 35 cars in it at all times. We have a crew of scavengers who hang out at the dumpster 24/7 rummaging around for pop cans and credit card information. My neighbors have destroyed 3 dryers in the laundry room. 2 neighbors in 4yrs have been evicted for drug issues. 1 apartment manages to stink up the place. My biggest gripe though is that any problem you call to have resolved merely gets put in a newsletter...they won't ever resolve any issues that maintenance can't patch.

Pay for what you get
I have lived in York Creek for about 2 years. I recently moved to a third floor apartment, I pay under $600 a month for a one bedroom with a loft, which is very reasonable - you can live elsewhere in Grand Rapids for much more. My apartment is nothing fancy, but is functional, which is all you should get for your money. If you want something flashy, go elswhere and pay out your nose.
Not the greatest
I lived in York Creek for a little over a year. The rent was really cheap and my kitchen had all new appliances which was really nice. And I never ran out of hot water when I showered (like some other places i've lived). But there were a lot of car break ins in front of my building. Thankfully not mine. The door latch and intercom were constantly broken (about 80% of the time). The hallways did smell bad from time to time as well, but after all my neighbors moved out on my floor the smell went away. If you decide to move there, try to get a 2nd or 3rd floor apartment. I lived on the first floor. I left my apartment for about 20 minutes and someone crawled through my window and robbed me. He was living in the building next door. He is now in prison for his third felony. The cops also seemed to be around my building area and the one next to me at least once a week.
And a note on the maintenance. The maintenance guys are great and are there within the hour.

You people don't get it.
This is a response to all those who have complained about the rental rates jumping after having completed a lease. I have been in the property management business for quite some time, and believe me when I say York Creek is one amongst thousands of complexes which offers promotional rates. Your "cheap" rate is JUST that: A PROMOTIONAL rate. Do you understand what that is? It's a one time discount for a new customer. Just like almost any other service, new customers often receive a cheaper, promotional rate. However, after you have completed your lease, you will, 99.9% of the time, anywhere in the United States, be paying market rate, or an increase to some degree if you decide to renew. This isn't York Creek "screwing you over". They're complying with the way the market functions. Some places charge you retail market rate for new residents. You should be delighted you even get to live 6-12 months with a 15-30% discount. A two bedroom for under $500 is unheard of in most areas. I'm not sure if the projects in south Chicago even run that low. If you can't afford to pay, WITH A ROOMMATE, $520-$550 for the same apartment, I'd suggest finding a more lucrative career.

I found a bigger HOUSE for less than the apartment I was renting at York Creek. Gas isn't included but for the love of all that is good -- I have a yard and I like living in a house better. I don't like York Creek. I think they are jerks. I think they have incompentent people working for them with the exception of the maintenance people.

The Night Time Security Guy!!!!
THIS IS TO THE PERSON WITH THE OPINION "HELL NO". WHAT IN THE HELL DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO WORK HERE? I HAVE HAD TO CALL SECURITY A FEW TIMES SINCE I HAVE LIVED HERE AND HE IS ALWAYS AT MY DOOR WITH IN A FEW MINUTES. AND IF YOU ARE SEEING HIM EATING OR AT 7-11 FROM TIME TO TIME.....HE HAS A LUNCH BREAK TOO YA KNOW! DA! BOY ARE YOU A MORON. JUST BECAUSE HE IS WORKING A DIFFERENT SHIFT THAN MOST DOESN'T MEAN HE ISN'T INTITLED TO A 1/2 HOUR LUNCH LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE. AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE THIS PLACE OR THE PEOPLE IN IT, MOVE THE HELL OUT, I WON'T MISS YA ONE BIT -----!
