lived here for 1 yr...HATE IT!!!!
Where do I start.... I lived here for a year... 2mths in I was ready to move out.... Had a horrible bug problem....Meaning yes Roaches..... Management told us it was the people down stairs that caused us to have this problem...but never got fixed...they said they would come in a spary but it never helped...And I know we were not the cause of the problem...WE NEVER COOKED!!! or were ever there for that matter....so I don t see how the problem could have been us....You cant make any noise...or you will get evicted...they do not give warnings....or so they say....The air conditioner very very loud...you could not even here your self when we were in the bathrooms!!! and Last but not least.... when we moved out...I left the place spotless.... But tell me why our final bill was 900.00 dollars for carpet replacement they said that s outrages..... our carpet had a few stains...but not 900.00 dollars worth.... Yea basically send me to collections because I do not plan on paying that!!!!

A fair and honest review
I notice a lot of the reviews on here are extremly opinionated. While I cant knock someones view, I dont think its helpful when you bash everything about a complex because of 1 or 2 problems. The wife and I lived in Mississippi, Florida, California, and now Texas. I wont talke about all the other apartments and townhomes that we lived in, but I am building my experiances from a variety of environments.

We spent 3 days browsing for apartments, starting with just 1 or two apartments in different parts of town. On the third day we decided that the north part of plano met our needs the best, with location, pricing, and quality. We had moved from California where we lived in the worst part of town and paid $950, so with the same budget we had a large share of apartments available to us.

Thornbury looks beautifull. Large trees, well kept grounds, and even those sharp prickley bushes in front of windows and ground floor balconies to prevent crime. There is even a nice park like area that has a lot of shade. One nice feature I enjoy is they have designated pet areas, complete with trashcans and pet waste baggies for your use. A previous poster did point this out, but not everyone cleans up after their dogs. I have been guilty of this, and he/she is right, the ground floor can start smelling if people dont pick up. We started leaving spare doggie bags near our apartment to try and give people a little "hint hint", and it seems to have worked. We no longer smell it and there is a lot less waste outside. But definatly dont let your kids play in the designated areas.

Our apartment is different then the one we were shown, but that is because we wanted something that was available now and on the ground floor. This apartment complex is a remodeled older apartment, so it has some old appliances that they are slowly upgrading. The AC is a poor design, but it does work great. The design causes it to either be hot air, or cold air, but not both. The maintenance man is VERY prompt in switching this when you ask. We have a lot of hot equipment in our apartment, so before winter was over we asked for it to be switched to AC. Well, about a week later a cold front came in and we were freazing. I heard a knock on our door, and the maintenance man came of his own free will to switch everyones back to heat to help them out. He also came on the weekend once to fix our stove, we told him he didnt need to and it could wait. But he showed up in his football jersey and missed a portion of his game just to fix our stove. Perhaps they have a new maintenance man, but he is FANTASTIC. Very helpful, knows what he is doing, and never a complaint. The building itself is of good quality, it has stood well for how long it has been around. It looks great, and could easily only be a few years old.

This apartment has some nice amenities, such as a cutting board built into the counter, a VERY spacious bedroom and living room, and garden tubs with glass doors. For the under $1000 mark (for 1 bedroom - 2 bedrooms) this place is fantastic. It looks new, has great people, great location (borders a nice golf course, large theater in walking distance, very quiet street but near freeway entrance for travel), and very spacious. The only drawbacks are the lack of parking, the older appliances (which are being upgraded), a strange AC, and the dog areas (if people dont pick up).

Management Lied!!
First of all, the apartment that we viewed was not even close to the one we rented. They told us that our one bedroom would have an entrance to the bathroom on the outside of our bedroom. We get there and the entrance to the bathroom was on the inside of our bedroom. Second, we were promised a linen closet in the bathroom, but when we moved in there wasn't one. Third, before we moved in the staff told us that we would pay a pet fee of $200 that is non-refundable, but would go towards any pet damage if there was any. We move out, everything seems great until we received a bill for carpet replacement. We tried to fight it because we noticed they didn't include the $200 dollars to subtract out the cost. They told us that it has always been that way and every apartment complex around in Texas does it that way. We have spoken to a dozen apartment complexes that do it the way we were told in the beginning.

WTF...Is this complex going to the ...dogs?
So I have lived here for quite a while and I like this place a lot. I think that the apts. are reasonable for Plano and the tenants are respectful; at least in my building. The environment is excellent with squirrels and trees and even the occasional cat fight from time to time.

The main gripe I have is DOO-DOO forest. That is what I call the open areas on trees and grass anywhere on this property. It seems that there is doo-doo everywhere. Its like Trainspotting at breakfast the morning after the club. POO everywhere.

I can't play with the kids in the grass for Fear of a Doo Doo Planet. But it does not stop there. I live on the ground floor and boy, you can smell it. and see it...Its like the mind field at Bastogne in Band of Brothers. Just think about it when the Texas heat hits it all summer.....arrg.

So my point might not be anymore than ...clean up after your pets.

HORRIBLE, NOT LIKE MODEL
I was so fooled by the model, it appeared as if they really take care of the apartments, but, I was fooled. Everything was old, water staines in ceiling, old and dirty dishwasher, dirty bathrooms. It just has been a real horrible experience. The only thing that they have going for them is the size of the unit, which is big, other than that, the apartment is really run down.

bizarre air conditioning, nice grounds, parking problems
Be careful on which of these units you pick. A number of the units use an old water cooled A/C technology that is definitely not mainstream. Water pipes run through the walls, over the bedroom, into the water heater closet, and make alot of loud gurgling, bubbling noises. They mentioned that some of these units were scheduled for removal and replacement with normal freon A/C, but mine was the old technology and was really noisy in summer AND WINTER. Its loud enough in the bedroom to wake you up when it cycles every 30- 40 minutes. Really weird. Otherwise the grounds are nice, and I had no security problems. Parking is not adequate close to the buildings, although at the end of the apartments there is an excess of parking away from the buildings. Like any apartment complex, management can be spotty. My contact was generally good. Get a unit with normal A/C and you're probably OK.

Eh...
I lived at Thornbury between October 04 and October 05... The apartment was nice, and when I first moved in, things were great. I got the apartment I wanted for a great price. 2 bdrm/2 bath for 710 a month... not bad at all... but there were so many other things that were horrible...

Things I changed when I moved in: There are no lights in the doorways, so I installed my own.... Also, I had to change my locks. When the key went in, it wouldnt always turn. You had to fight to open your door. It didnt do it every time, so when I asked them to fix it, they said there wasnt a problem.

My A/C never really worked all that well... It broke many times, not heating anything. They always came out, usually the next day, to fix it, and it worked for a few weeks, then would break again. Then when winter came, my heater broke. They replaced that, and no other problems occured with that. When summer came around and it was 100 , it broke completely, and I couldnt stay there that night. My new kitty was freaking out. The master (my) bdrm never cooled correctly, and they could never fix it.

I did get my whole deposit back, but it took almost 3 months...

Parking was ok sometimes, but most of the time, I had to park way out in the boons...

The gate was always broken, and after a few months, would not open with my card, and then the box stopped working... I had to go to the other gate, and drive through the complex...

Ok, so aside from the AC probelms there was one other major issue I had... I had a lock on my bdrm door due to my roommate situation, and maintenance thought my toilet was leaking into the apartment downstairs. I worked a lot, so when they came originally to fix it, the door was locked and they left a note asking to leave it unlocked for the Sunday. That's one of my days off, so I didnt have any problems with that. I even slept on the couch in the living room becasue I didnt want him to think he would be disturbing me. Anyway, he came and I played dead, trying to still sleep... Being a homosexual male, I have some clues in my bedroom of this, mainly a couple posters. He would walk in and out to the kitchen to get paper towels, and one time he came out and said "---, ---, ---, ---, ---...." all the way to the kitchen and back into my room. I didnt say anything at this point, because I wanted him to get out of my apartment as soon as possible. I was appalled... Anyway, I went to the office as soon as possible, and told the manager what happened... She seemed sympathetic, but NOTHING was done about it. The maintenance man might have been talked to, or fired, but I never heard anything from them about the issue again. Normally, I just let bigotry roll off my back, but this happened in my home... I can deal with hearing it on the streets, or in the media, but in the place I live... anyway... not really Thornbury's fault it happened, I was just expecting to at least get an official apology from them.

Well, that's all for my rant about these apartments... I'm moving into new apartments on April 8th, so hopefully I will have a better experience

Awful Complex
This apartment complex was the worst. I have lived in several apratments and this was the worst one. The management is rude and will not help with any type of situation. The maintenance needs to go back to school to learn how to repair things so they will not keep breaking. The place is a rip off and will try to charge you for everything when you move out. If you do rent take pictures before moving in and moving out. Document everything when talking the office. Trust me from experience.

This place is a nightmare-Stay away!!!!
the only thing that really makes a difference at a rental were you are throwing your money away each month is the personel in the office. This complex has to have the worst staff of any place I have ever lived. Thank goodness I am through with the worst one year lease of my life.

Great Place
I have lived here for over two years now and I really enjoy living here. It seems like the new management is trying to make some changes. I love all the big trees! It is almost impossible to find somewhere to live that has all the big giant trees. They also recently remodeled the club room area. I rented it out for a party and had so many compliments on how pretty everything was. I have enjoyed my stay here and will suggest this place to my friends who need an apartment. And just for the record, don't believe everything that you read from negative people(they normally just want to complain about something and are never happy).

Sex Offender Database
I don't live here, but I was interested, until I saw that not one but TWO convicted sex offender lives there. There names are Windell Ray Polly and Cedric Ponce. Polly was convicted of Aggrivated Sexual Assault of a Child (female 10) back in 1996. Ponce was convicted of Sexual Assault of a Child (female 14) in 1998. Honesty
I lived at the Thornbury from 2002-2005. I enjoyed living there. The units were really NICE and spacious. They really felt like home. The complex is also in a great location. Since I going to highly recommend this complex I will point out a few things I did not like.

- RODENTS - I lived in Building 1 on the second floor, and we had rodents. My cat killed mice all the time inside the apt. and I would see them late at night. I complained and they sent the exterminator out and my cat did not kill another, but I did see droppings in the pantry right before we moved out. One time I saw a rat scale the wall outside, and a woman below me said she had a rat inside her apt. one time. But we told management and they set traps again and I did not see anything. This complex is across the street from a field, so I know rodents are around. When the exterminator did come out the problem seemed to be solved for awhile.

- PARKING - Parking was an issue for me when all the units in my building were occupied. That drove me nuts! On a brighter note... the covered parking is not assigned to anyone, but you would have the residents that would park three cars under there and leave them there never moving them.

Other then those two issues the complex was great. The management was always nice to me and always willing to please. I was SUPER scared when I moved out from reading move out horror stories on this site about the $$$ charges they charge after you move out, and I got my deposit back :) I was super scared they were going to charge me for the carpet, but they didn't. Also, I did not like when they painted the complex to a different color because it made the halls darker. I would live there again, just not in building 1 because of the rodents unless it was taken care of. My sister still lives there and she loves it... no problems with parking or rodents in her building.

Awesome place
I have lived here for about a year and have had a very good experience so far. A lot of changes has been going on but so far it is good things. They repainted the buildings and now a new management company has taken over and they have said they are going to do lots of things to make it even better. I have enjoyed my time here and will continue to tell all my friends to move in here as well.

Don't even stop by
The management is run by a girl named Stephanie and Cindy. Those are the two "head" people. Don't be fooled by thier fake smiles and fake attitudes. The minute you sign thier moods seemed turn cold immediately. Watch for big charges when you move out, no matter how much you clean. Don't expect to get ANY of you deposits back on anything. The parking is horrible too.

Bad Management, Bad parking
I lived there for a full 12 month period and I hated it. We had problems the first month. I went to pay the rent (760) and they tried to tell me that on the first month I have to pay market price (930)!!!! I of course did not agree to that and paid the 760. I was in building 12 and the parking was horrible. There are not enough spaces to go around. Since there are no reserved spots for tenants, its a free for all. If you dont get home by 5pm, you will be parking a ways from your building. Second, the management was unprofessional. They did not know how to handle a situation without an attitude. They really are dumb blondes.

Don't do it!
This was the complex from hell. I NEVER should have moved here. My apartment flooded, had mold, more spiders that you could imagine. Golf course view.... lovely. However, the loud speaker from the club at 7am on Sat. morning was not listed in the brochure. The parking is horrible. The gates never work. The office staff is a joke. Completely unprofessional. Idiots. I have just moved out, and now they are trying to screw me with those bogus moveout charges. But I took pictures, and documented every incident in this hell hole. Just don't do it!

what was i thinking?
I moved in last fall to be closer to work, and after having lived here one year I wonderered why I didn't just move to Allen.

My utility bills here are triple what they were in my previous apartment, the sound insulation between top and bottom floor apartments is terrible, and parking here if you are a resident is a nightmare. Management is unprofessional and does not return calls from residents. Finally, the fact that this complex touts itself as a gated community is a complete falsehood.

First, the sound insulation is incredibly poor. I can always hear my neighbors upstairs stomping and running about, and I can always hear them in the breezeways.

As far as parking goes, don't plan on going out after about 8 if you want to have a place to park when you get home. Too often I was made to park a great distance away from my apartment, and at night, being a single woman, I didn't feel incredibly safe walking all that way since it is not terribly well-lit.

Management does not respond to phone messages in a timely manner. I have called during office hours and had to leave messages (since they were either not there or not answering) on several occasions to discuss things ranging from my lease contract to maintenance issues, and each time, I never received a response.

Also, whoever they hire to do the exterminating must spray water or something because of all the apartments I have ever lived in, this one has the worst bug problems out of all of them. I keep a can of Raid that does a better job of getting rid of the ants that keep coming into my apartment, even though my apartment is clean!

Finally, a gated community can only be gated when the gates work. Most of this past summer, the gates were nonfunctional, which meant that anyone and everyone could come right on in. When your gates don't work, you invite all kinds of undesirable people into your community, and that's what happened this summer, as I came home on several occasions to be greeted by:

*pot smoke in the breezeways
*shifty looking guys sleeping in their cars on property
*unfamiliar people who I know did NOT live there

I will definitely be moving at the end of this lease term, which unfortunately does not end until next September! :( But one thing is for certain, I will NOT recommend this complex to anyone I know looking for a place to live. If you want to live in a fenced, mismanaged, noisy, drug and criminal-riddled apartment complex, go on ahead.

This apt has really come together nicely!
I like the office staff they have changed things around a bit and I am very pleased with the way they handle things, the maintanence is awesome now they got this new guy, he is faaasssttt! Its a beautiful community with lots of trees and friendly residents, I feel safe and the gates are NOT always broken, when they do break it is the impatient residents who ram and bump the gates! I know this because I have seen it done on more than one occasion! This website sounds like a "I'm mad, lets *itch" website more than a true review website, I love where I live and just remember there is always two sides to every story!!!

MANAGEMENT ARE STUCK UP *ITCHES
I have lived here for 8 mos now and I totally agree with everyone about the management problems. The females in the front office where totally nice at the time of move-in and showing of the apartment but as soon as we moved in they were RUDE,MEAN AND NOT HELPFUL AT ALL!!!!!!
But I totally disagree with someone writing about the "riftraft" moving in and the quality of people, and then saying it was not a racist comment. The noise problems in the area are spoiled young white kids not the non-white residents at all. From there drunken parties and yelling obscenities all night. I have not had any other problems besides that. Maintenance seems to respond in a timely manner. The scenery is great. Yes, alot of dog-poop but "PICK UP" after your dog and there won't be a problem. The gates are always broken. I like my apartment as long as I don't have to talk to management.
