Wonderful Place to live

I have moved here last November. I just had wonderful experience from then on. I had a very neat and completely clean apartment when I moved in. Every smallest problem was fixed within hours. The staff are very amiable and wonderful to interact with. The outdoors are perfect place with a nice stream passing right in middle of community and it is very nice to walk around the community in the evening. The business center provides 24hr internet access and printer facility. The gym is well equipped and functional at all times. There are regular maintenance checks to ensure that all the equipment is working correctly. I can compare every feature/service to my earlier place of stay and can say that they are beyond excellent. It is a very safe and wonderful looking neighborhood.

          Good place to live

I've lived in Stuart Woods for many years. The complex is very quiet and has few problems. The Sugarland Run Trail passes through the grounds and provides beautiful walks with a variety of wildlife. Management does a great job of maintaining the grounds and is very responsive to problems in the apartments. The building are solid concret slab constuction, very quiet, very solid and very fire-proof, unlike most of the shoddy construction going on in this area in recent years. I've been very pleased living here.

            unprofessional management, stay away

when I first tried to get an apartment, the lady appeared to be very helpful and asked me a lot of questions. She offered some choices and assured me to take time and make a decision best for me. However two days later when I decided to take one apartment, she told me most of promos were no longer available and she knew I need to get a place in 2 week. I was very frustrated and talked to the property manager with no success. A fair place, very unprofessional management, be careful with their tricks...

You get what you have paid for on executive services

Pros: Quite neighborhood, woods, walking trail, quick maintenance, prompt office staff, parking, well maintained gym, neat apartments walkways, concrete floors. Cons: Pricey from the 2nd year onwards, during these recession the prices are up saying that's market rate. Now I know the reason why most of the apts are not occupied. Other neighbors are offering good deals and very flexible in lease terms. There is volley ball court and playing there is risky that gets you allergy and so many mosquitoes. Same in Tennis court and you never ever get a chance to play as you find kids always occupying them. No deals for short lease terms, say for 6 months. I am moving out off this apartment when one year lease ends, for 1450 I can get a double BR with 2BA outside with short lease terms.

                Hate it here

There are many things I like about Stuart Woods. I like the woods and the trails. The office is nice and the maintenance is quick to respond. The grounds are pretty clean too. Here are the things I hate about it here: It is always dusty and mold gathers on the window no matter how much you clean. We constantly have to scour the place with Pledge and bleach. We're always sneezing and coughing. Plus if you have a smoking neighbor, it will drift so much through the walls, it's as if the smoker is there in the same room. Terrible if you have kids. Maybe it's the building we live in but you can forget about finding a parking space nearby at night. There are a TON of dogs around here so be prepared for lots of barking and sidestepping poop on the walking trails. The appliances here are old. I hate the washer and the dryer. After just one or two washes on brand new items, they'll look about ten years old. The stove burners sometimes cut out too. Even though maintenance is quick to respond, I got sick of always calling them in. Last, watch out for the woman who has the reserved space in front of building 174. She drives a black chevy with the Harley Davidson sticker. She is the meanest, nastiest, most miserable person you will ever meet in your life. She curses at people and she hates kids. Also, stay away from her reserved spot because she is the type who will block your car in and stay up all night waiting for a tow truck if it means she can put you in your place. She's horrid. If you decide to move here, stay as far away from her and whatever building she lives in as you can. She will make your life miserable and she will make you feel unsafe here. One of the neighbors told me she's even worse to live next to. I thought this was a nice place when I first moved here but after a couple of years, I can't wait to get out. I feel depressed being here and look forward to leaving. I don't think this place is at all worth the $1400-1500 they want a month.

Not a bad place to live

I'm surprised by some of the reviews I've read on here. I've lived here for about 6 months now, and haven't had any complaints. It's very quiet, we have only heard our neighbors a couple of times. We have 2 dogs that run around in the apartment, and our downstairs neighbors have told us they've never heard them. We've also never had a hard time finding parking, even in the middle of the night. I've only had good experiences with management. I called once because our air conditioner was leaking, they were here to fix it within 30 minutes. Just remember that the people who usually seek out these forums are the unhappy ones. The only reason I'm writing this is because I used this site to find my apartment.

Very Bad management - naver stay here

The Aprtment Carpet manager is very rude. The behaviour is bad. No respect for tenents. He says he worked for 21 years and go with policy. If you ask any thing to replace in your apartment he says neighors may go to court. hahaha what a joke. Of course if you pay $200, he will replace the things well. These apartments are good for one year. dont extend your lease. rent will be increased too much. If you dont like anything like carpet, get a written statement that they will replace now or a year later. they cheat on Oral communication or oral promise if they made any.

                      Place has become a jungle

We took a year lease in Stuart woods. The things i love about stuart woods is that they provide nice clean apartments, the floor has concrete that just does not disturb ppl leaving below on 2nd or 1st floors. The maintainence is good and management is helpful and specially Judy is very friendly and helpful. Staurt woods has wonderful green scenary, walking trial for lot of oxygen and fresh air and we hardly need acs here, good swimming pool, tennis court, volley court, gym, business center etc. The things I don't like about this place is the way some residents behave in community. We have kids playing around not in playgrounds but all over which makes the place feel like jungle and very noisy. That is more because ppl are more ill-mannered and lack the discipline of behaving in society by disturbing other residents. Ppl party at home late nights, sing songs loudly that is so disturbing, kids are all over behing balconies and near bedroom and now we have starting hating this place and have decided not to renew our lease. We were thinking to renew our lease but the noise make our stay horrible. This place looks like a jungle now unless management takes a severe action on this. Place not recommended for folks without kids. This place will make your stay horrible on weekends and when your are back home from work. The place is now a good jungle.

2 year resident of Stuart Woods

My family and I renewed our lease after our first year here in an effort to give Stuart Woods a 2nd chance after a not so good first year. However, you can rest assured that this will be our last year here. Upon meeting the leasing staff for the first time, you will realize their ability to efficently and professionaly run a complex of this size is less than poor. They ignore the fact that there are 5-8 people living in a one bedroom apartment and refuse to do anything about it citing racial discrimination as the reason, yet threaten fines to other residents for leaving a bag of trash in the hallway. They constantly make excuses for why the lighting in the complex doesn't work consistently and how it can never be repaired, yet tell you that you're overreacting when you express to them a concern for your safety at night. There is a rodent problem here. More likely than not, if you live here, the roof of your building will be infested with squirrels come winter. It doesn't help when the leasing staff leaves food out for the squirrels, foxes and other rodents year round. Their refusal to repair water leakage from the pool and repair potholes in the road, hs lead to an unsafe amount of algae covering the parking area near the dumpsters. Just take a look at the number of apartments available on the website and you will recognize that Stuart Woods can't be all that great when there are so so many apartments vacant.

                                Love it!

I've lived in Stuart Woods for a year and half now. I really love it here! I wanted an apartment that (1) I could afford, (2) wasn't teeny-tiny, (3) allowed pets, (4) was in a "nice" neighborhood, (5) had plenty of parking, and (6) wasn't too far from my job. Stuart woods met all of my criteria. :-) It really is the most square-footage for the price (of course, I was lucky enough to get a cheaper, un-renovated apartment). There is plenty of parking. The office staff is very nice and helpful. They were even very accomodating on the visitor parking situation when I had a party with some friends/co-workers. The little gym we have could be improved, but the pool, tennis courts, and volleyball courts are nice. The office staff loves animals, and the apartment complex even installed a dog park, which has been wonderful since I have a dog with a lot of energy. There is a nice trail that cuts right though the neighborhood and connects to the W & OD. It really is a little gem of a community! :-) It's much nicer than living in some high-rise apartments... I love the feel of this place, with all the trees and the creek and the jogging trail. I'm glad I found it; I never knew it was here since it's so tucked away - and I grew up in this area! And it's so close to everything. It's right in the Town of Herndon, near the Toll Road and the Parkway, and close to Reston Town Center too. The apartments also are very quiet compared to some other apartments I've lived in, and there is a cleaning staff that helps keep the stairwells clean. The only bad things are that the maintenance staff can be a little slow about attending to some issues if they don't deem the issue an emergency, and the office staff doesn't necessarily keep on the maintenance staff unless you keep on the office staff. But if you do keep on them, it does get taken care of. (And what apartment complex doesn't have this problem?) The other bad thing is my downstairs neighbors. On nice days I like to open my windows to enjoy the fresh air and pleasant temperatures, but unfortunately my downstairs neighbors smoke. And they love to smoke on their patio. So their cigarette smoke floats up and in through my windows/sliding door, which ruins the whole idea of "fresh air" and I have to close my windows to avoid stinking up my apartment. I don't believe there are any laws against smoking cigarettes on your patio... so I just have to deal with it.

Stuart Woods Apartments rated superior in 2007 resident survey!

Each year, A.J. Dwoskin & Associates hires an independent firm, SatisFacts Research, to randomly survey a percentage of the residents at each apartment community. I am thrilled to announce that in the 2007 survey, residents at Stuart Woods rated the community as superior! In fact, 94% of the residents surveyed stated they would recommend Stuart Woods to a friend. Over the past few years, Stuart Woods has renovated the apartment interiors with ceramic tile in the kitchen and bath, designer light fixtures, brushed nickel hardware, and wood moldings in the living room and dining room. In the past year, we also added a dog park for our four legged residents. The management team is constantly striving to make improvements to the community. Not often does a resident satisfied with their apartment seek out a website to post a positive comment or compliment. This website can be a bulletin board for disgruntled residents who are few and far between. When reading this website, please consider that the best indicator of the professional management of an apartment community is the overall opinion of its residents. The results of the 2007 annual resident survey speak volumes about how satisfied the residents are at Stuart Woods. Thank you for taking the time to read this posting. A Nice trasition

I moved to the Northern Virginia area about a year ago. My fiance and I searched high and low for an apartment that meets all our criteria and still gave a feeling of being home. We both come from a small town in Southern Virginia and so the city life of Northern Virginia is a big culture shock. We moved into our 2 bedroom apartment here at Stuart Woods with our dog about a year ago and I have not had many problems at all. Our apartment is spacious as well as the property. We are surrounded by trees so, I feel as if I'm back home (seculded and private) I love to take long walks down the trails that run through here and I love to spend time with our dog in their new off leash dog park that they have set up for us as well. The office staff also loves our dog, so that it a very nice treat for our dog as well. The office staff is really nice and very helpful. They made us feel right at home when we moved in and have been just as nice since then. My neighbors are also very nice even though I have not met them all. Overall, Stuart Woods has been a nice transition from the small town life to the rat race life (as i like to call it) of Northern Virginia. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice little "hideaway" from the busy streets of Herndon and the surrounding area without being away from them at all. My fiance loves how we are right near 267, 7100 and route 7. I'm not here to sell anyone on an apartment...it is not my job. However; I would recommend coming by and seeing the leasing staff and going around and taking a look at these apartments and the property. You really don't have anything to loose in just taking a look...

I should preface this by saying that the entire Northern Virginia area is expensive. This property was certainly not cheap but more reasonable than other neighboring properties. Initially, I moved into Stuart Woods sight unseen and stayed for 3 years. The appearance is certainly nothing special and the buildings are a little older but they were in the process of re-vamping certain parts while I was there.
I never had a problem living here and would recommend it as a first apartment for anyone.

                                      Pretty good place to live.

My husband and I have lived in Stuart Woods for almost two years now. It's a pretty good place to live. It's a very quiet complex and I feel safe here. I think the management is also fairly helpful. I like the wooded views we get from our balcony and the walking trails in the back. It's kind of old though and dust in constantly coming out of the vents. We have to really scour the place down with Pledge and vacuum quite frequently. I have read some of the other reviews and agree that even with the concrete floors, you can hear your neighbors sometimes. But I have only heard occasional talking in the kitchen. We have a single neighbor next to us who must sleep in her living room right up against our living room wall instead of her bedroom because she is always complaining about our television and pounding on our wall at a mere 8:00pm the second we turn it on. We have reduced the sound down to where we strain to hear it and put subtitles on and she still complains. So, either the walls ARE kind of thin and we just have quiet neighbors or this woman is just one of those neighbors you hear about that has to have a peeve about something and that happens to be it, I don't know. But when our five month old starts crying, she screams at us through the wall as well and blasts loud music as a way of letting us know that she wants our child to be quiet. So, that can be annoying to deal with. I also agree with the other reviews about ants. There is a lot of them in the summer and we are on the top floor. They don't stress me out too much though. I would get far more stressed if I had to deal with anything bigger though, which I don't.

Anyway, overall, Stuart Woods is pretty decent to live. I think that for the amount of money we pay each month, there are probably some better deals. We keep our eyes open all the time for something else. We like the Herndon/Reston area a lot - this place has a great location. I would recommend it here as a good place to live. The thing is, when you live in an apartment, you usually have to deal with a bunch of stuff that you just wouldn't get in a home of your own. Most of the time it's things like lousy appliances and noisy neighbors. Maybe it's because I know that and don't expect much from an apartment. I dislike them and look forward to a having a home one day but for now, this will do. What's important to me is just to feel safe wherever I live. Good luck!

                                          Very Bad Experience

I don't know what to do anymore. When the other tenants in the apartment building cook their spicy food, my whole apartment reeks for days. Even my bedding and clothing stinks of the spices. Management refused to even attempt to do anything about it.

Mould is a constant problem and I have had to steam clean the carpets three times in 6 months due to large brown mould marks appearing on the carpet.

I can't believe this is happening. It's like a bad dream.

PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE MOVING HERE.It's AWFUL.

                                            No Complaints

I have lived here for some time now and really haven't encountered any issues. My family and I are very happy here and we think that the whole office and maintenance staff do a really good job. The hallways are always clean and the landscaping is beautiful. I understand there are issues that some may not be so happy with, but I also think that sometimes we can be a little too judgemental. Overall, I would recommend Stuart Woods to my friends and family. During out itme here, we have also been happy to be involved in the activities the management provides and the kids love it.

                                              Sloppy maintenance, pricey and UGLY!

The pool leaks into the parking lot during the summer and causes alge to grow and smell up the whole neighborhood.

As part of recent renovations, they simply painted over the old stucco walls, the banged up doors and railings and put styrofoam extensions on the facia. In the process hot tar oozed down the walls when they put a new roof on (stank for weeks) and they painted over that too.

There are still sloppy paint drippings all over my balcony. Oh, and, the paint is already peeling off.

They have ANTS! The first summer I was hear, I came home on numerous occasions to find them climbing the walls and in my food! There is also a Hornet's nest nearby that they won't handle.

The air ducts blow so much dust and crap into our room that it causes us severe headaches in the morning if the vent is open, and leaves dust bunnies on my pictures.

We have asked 4 times to have the dishwasher replaced, only to have someone who barely speaks English come tell us it's fine because the water comes out.

I have had 3 of my cars towed because of draconian parking enforcement. Guests have to park half half way accross the complex in a poorly lit area after 10pm AND they have to have a tag! Forget either of those and you will be fishing your car from the tow yard the next morning.

There is also a nice paint spill that has been in the parking lot for 4 months that hasn't been cleaned, and last year when a tree blew over in the parking lot they left the stump sit for 6 months!

They have also raised my rent 50-60$ every lease period and you have to pay for the tiny little gym.

The good news, it's very conveniently located near 267, 7100 and Reston Town Center. Lot's of stores near by (many ethnic).

If you want to spend the money, you can do better.

The apartments here are well built and quiet. The parking lot is well lit, and the gym is nice. The staff for the most part is polite and are helpful on the surface, and when we have called in with the few maintenance problems that have cropped up, they have been very responsive. Existing problems noted on move in took almost two months to resolve, and some are still not truely fixed and probably never will be. The location is beyond exceptional with very good restaurants, an easy commute if you work in Reston (We are saving about $80 a week for two cars, not SUV's.), and access to four major supermarkets not more then 5 minutes away during Rush hour.
I also need to mention here that unlike some other places we have lived the people who live in our building have been exceedingly polite and welcoming.
And now for the "However".
A lot of the maintenance and upkeep has been sloppy. The apartment overall is in very good condition for it's age, but the rubber trim in the bathroom and kitchen (Yes, rubber trim) has been eyeballed and has large gaps at the edges of 1/2 inch or more in some places, in others pieces have just been slapped against the wall to replace parts that were damaged.
There are three major cracks in our celing. Not the small little 1 or 2 inch variety, but the runs from the inside wall to the outside wall variety. 1 in each section of the apartment. We are told it is due to the building settling.
Some of the vinyl tile in the bathroom was coming up and the maintenance guy who looked at it asked us what we wanted done with it...fix it or replace it?
The appliances may be new, but are nothing exceptional and I mean the oven doesn't even have a window or a light. The sole exception to the new applience thing is mini-microwave that was built in 1995 per the manufacturers plate. We would consider having it removed considering that a cup of coffee (the only thing that fits in it) takes 5 minutes to heat up, except that the counter and cabinet space is extremely limited, and we only have 2 drawers. This was something we missed on the walkthrough.
The lay out here is nice, but seems to lose a lot of space in the foyer. Our last apartment was considerably smaller, but included a den and we had room for everything.
The worst problem however is not fact that we are paying a premium for location only, there are cheaper 2 bedrooms a few miles down the road that are brand new, but that we can not get rid of the roaches and the ants. I'm not talking about an infestation, but roughly 1 roach per day, every night. And the ants are constant. Stuart Woods knows about the problem and has a service that comes in once a week, and it is easy to get on the list, but it doesnt work. We've had them through twice and the very next day the roach came back.
So on the whole I can not provide my recommendation. Good people, great location, but to much money for to little.
