Not Impressed
Coming off of a one year lease, they are prepared to increase my rent $65.00 a month, provided that I sign another one year lease. If I sign a six month lease it is well over $100 a month and going month to month will cost almost $200 a month more. They were nice enough to send me a flyer explaining how it could cost me almost $3000.00 to move.

Overall the apartments are not bad. My appliances were new and the location is convienient. The neighbors odors seemed to radiat into the hall and find their way under my door. The windows in the front were fogged and I have waited 10 months for them to do something about it. (or tell me that they do not plan to do anything) The dumpsters are about two city blocks away.

The staff tries to help, but seems a bit imature.

Thats the good and the bad.

Good Luck

Stuart Woods Apartments rated superior in resident survey!
Each year, A.J. Dwoskin & Associates contracts with an independent research firm to randomly survey the residents at each of our apartment communities. I am thrilled to announce that in the 2006 survey, residents at Stuart Woods rated the community as superior!

I know this website can be a bulletin board for disgruntled residents who are few and far between. Not often does a resident satisfied with their apartment seek out a website to post a positive comment or compliment. When reading this website, please consider that the best indicator of the professional management of an apartment community is the overall opinion of its residents. The results of the 2006 annual resident survey speak volumes about how satisfied the residents are at Stuart Woods.

Thank you for taking the time to read this posting.

Julie Contos
Marketing Director, A.J. larger apt w/extra closet/storage
moved in 7 months ago and can't find anything bad to say about this place. i did a lot of comparison shopping and i am glad that i chose here. i love my apartment. the people in the office extend exceptional customer service-which as we all know, is extremely hard to come by in these days cause no one cares anymore. i've only had one maintenance problem that was taken care of really fast. they even left a picture note, describing what was done, and who did it. i thought that was a great touch. for those who have experienced bad things, welcome to reality cause apt living isn't a perfect science. i enjoy the quietness here. neighbors are quiet. no roaches, bugs or whatever. just dont always listen to the ones that complain csuse there are always more of us that do appreciate good service and a nice place to live.

Poor maintenance
Very poor maintenance service,if you call them or you go to report for something they wont come until you go there atleast twice(may be more) to report the same problem.and EMERGENCY is "GREAT" if you reported some emergency do not expect them to come before 2-3 hours.Earlier these guys were very concerned i do not know what happened to them now i am very unhappy with them now.

Giant roaches and dirty neighbors.
I lived in Stuart Woods for about 2.5 years. I'm a very clean person. You could pretty much eat off my floors. I clean under the counters, behind the appliances, toilet etc. If I ever did put food in the trash I immediately took it outside to the dumpster. Despite all of that I had a horrible roach problem the entire time I lived at Stuart Woods. It was disgusting. I regularly saw 2 inch long roaches running around my living room. I was afraid to enter my apt after being away for a weekend because I knew it would be infested with roaches. There were days when I had killed 10 roaches just while sitting on couch watching TV. I'm not exaggerating. It really was that bad... Several exterminators came in to my apartment and finally the management came in and everyone seemed to agree that the cleanliness of my apartment wasn't the issue. It had to have been the neighbors. They always said they entered surrounding apartments to clean but the problem never went away. My neighbors used to take their garbage bags and leave them out in the open hallway. I had spoken up about this a few times and eventually they stopped doing this but that had no effect on the roaches.
I have a feeling the roaches and rodents (I never experienced any rats but apparently a lot of people have) were brought in by the people that caused the property to smell like the back alley behind a strip of ethnic restaurants.
The staff always seemed nice and concerned about my problem so I have no complaints there but no matter what we tried, the roaches never went away. I didn't have roaches before living there and I don't have them now that I moved out.

It's an older building that recently had a new shell put over it to make it look like a newer building. The apartments are a bit bigger than what you get at other properties and you get a full size washer and dryer. The parking policy was easy to deal when I got there but became a hassle by the time I left.

I originally moved there because they were cheaper than the other buildings in the area. (I now know why..) The price has since increased to equal other properties in the area that are much better.

Pleased with Stuart Woods
My wife and I are very pleased with living here. There are so many great things that they offer like, walking trails, a fitness room, a business center that we have access to 24/7. I had a problem with my garbage disposal, I went on line and put in a work order. They replaced it the very next day. Everyone in the office is really nice and they are always polite and helpful. We felt right at home and continue to feel that way. I think sharing positive comments are necessary as well.

We Enjoyed Our Stay - They made it a nightmare to leave though
We really enjoyed our time at Stuart Woods. We liked the cheap price and found the garden style community, huge parking lot and large units to be ideal for us (a young, professional couple). While our unit was a bit shabby when we moved in (nicks in walls, discolored carpeting in areas, drafty doors and windows) we were able to make the best of it and really made it feel like home. The large closets and rooms made up for some of the drawbacks. Our controlled heating and AC was great! We liked the pool but rarely traversed the woods to get there. We were one of like 3 caucasian couples in our side of the complex I think - HUGE Indian/---- population...strange cooking smells at dinner time, but everyone was, for the most part, friendly.

Things went well until we decided to move closer to the city. Leaving is tough because of firm policies on 60 day notice and a horrible policy on breaking a lease. We ended up paying for a month we weren't there by going to month-to-month and giving our notice all on the same day (our best, cheapest option). But, we dealt with this one staff person (lady with long white hair) who I really think is missing a few screws...lights on nobody home deal. She tried telling us that we owed them extra money for staying 1 day into the month after we had already PAID RENT for that entire month! Plus, she said that we owed because we said we were going to leave on the second...but we DID leave on the second and GAVE BACK KEYS on the second. Basically, she's nuts. Deal with some of the younger staff members who are probably still trying to rip you off but are more intelligent and on top of their game.

All in all, not a bad place to live...quite nice compared to some alternatives. Just work out your lease and move out dates better than we did and don't let them swindle you.

Lousy office staff and shoddy fixtures
After 8 months of putting up with a very rude and unhelpful office staff I have decided to search for another apt. They have mislead me on all aspects of the rental agreement and make getting things repaired an painful experience. Do not expect to have any forgivness from this staff...David and Patti are just awful to deal with...rude and basically call you a lier to your face...what happened to customer satisfaction? Well none at this place. The apt is great, the rooms are wonderful and the square footage for the price is just right, but don't let them fool you...I got a renovated apt...not! It has cracks in the ceiling, marks on the walls and cabinets, poorly installed carpeting and fixtures. Oh...and you can hear your neighbors use the restroom...how embarrassing.

I'm willing to bet some of these over-the-top comments calling residents with problems "losers" are written by Stuart Woods staff. Just a hunch.

Visiting this site
This apartment complex has been a rewarding experience for me and my husband. We moved in the beg of 2003 and have just decided to stay, year after year. Have we encountered problems? Yes! I cannot allow myself to live in a "bubble" and believe that I am oblivious to the world and it's problems just because I don't own it. I just have a hard time understanding the "why" as to "why" someone would go out of their way just to complain about so many trivial things, when there are so many other difficult situations, out in this hard life, to deal with. Don't you think that someone out there has it so much worse off than you??? As I said previously, we have lived here for great while and have had maintenance issues. Thank goodness there is a maintenance team who is there for us when we call. For those of you who are just completely unhappy in an apartment complex, that sits on a boat load of wooded acrage, may I suggest that you move to your own home? This way...when you get a rodent in your home, you have no one else to blame but yourself. For those of you who complain about every little peice of your pathetic lives, take it out on yourself! I can almost guarentee that you live, have no life and spaz, at every freakin non-important, non-life altering issue. I really like and enjoy living here. There are trails that you can run your dogs on, lots of woods, your neighbor does not sit on top of you because the buildings are so spread out, and if there are problems in your apartment, all you have to do is call. Maintenance has always come to our apartment within a short time. As the guy said before, stop crying and move somewhere else if you don't like it here! And stop slamming where I live! You will NEVER be happy...Anywhere you go. We are and we just wanted to tell all of you who are looking for somewhere really nice to live to not judge a place by these very lonely, probably singel, have no life, unsuccessful, mentally unstable people.

RATS
I've lived in TWO apartments in this community and both have had rodents. Last night a rat died behind my washer/dryer. I'm sick of management's refusal to admit they have a rodent problem and their refusal to properly take care of the problem. I'm getting a lawyer.

I found the fan in the bathroom extremely loud as well when I lived there. It's easy to fix, just screw the cover off the vent on the ceiling and unplug the fan (it's actually plugged in up there). Just remember to replug it when you leave. :)

very pleasant experience
I've really enjoyed living at Stuart Woods. The square footage really can't be beat for the price. Stuart Woods has spoiled me and now I couldn't imagine living in a smaller one bedroom. We have had various maintenance issues, and sometimes you have to be persistent to get the issue resolved, but I truly feel that they do make an effort to help you. (I often think the delays we've experienced are due to them being overworked or contractor issues.) We had an issue with the carpet getting wet and it took a long time to diagnose the problem (dishwasher leak), but it WAS resolved beautifully. The bathtub wasn't refitted properly, but that was the fault of the contractor, not the property. And it was fixed.

Parking is plentiful, just be sure that you give your guests a parking pass after 10 pm. It is somewhat of a pain to have to use guest passes, but we are in an area that could easily be innundated with non-resident cars, so I appreciate that the community wants to avoid that and ensure that the vehicles on the property are supposed to be there.

The location is great! Right off 7100, next to K-Mart shopping center. There is someone who comes by every day of the week to clean the entrance/stairwell. And the grounds are as clean as the residents allow it to be. Overall, I haven't seen very much trash or dog poo around. Most people seem to be civilized.

You do hear things sometimes from your neighbors or through the windows, but by and large the concrete construction is rather effective. The appliances are NOT always new, but they seem ready to replace things as needed. They also allow you to paint the apartment if you wish, which I think is rare in apartment communities. I wish the bathroom light switch wasn't connected to the fan because it's loud, but that's a minor thing. The bathroom is also a little on the small side, but not overly cramped.

I've seen maybe a half a dozen bugs since February, but they have sent the pest control service in several times (at my request and others in the building). The community feels generally very safe and quiet, and the police department just moved in down the street.

I personally have referred two of my relatives here and received a nice $500 rent credit bonus as a result. We wouldn't be leaving, except that we needed a place with two bathrooms and more than one bedroom.

Take these comments at face value...
No name: no face, no value

Some of these comments are ridiculous. If somebody is complaining anonymously, they can say whatever they want. Are they trying to hide their identities for some reason? Is management going to hunt them down and make them take back what they said?

It is also hard to take comments seriously when the author can hardly spell or finish a coherent thought. This is the written equivalent of yelling in public. You are hard to understand and you don't come off looking to well in front of those that hear you. If you are going to vent, wait a day before you fly off the handle here. Poor communcation skills and hasty decisions lead to a lot of problems no matter where you come from.

I assume that these people are exaggerating because I have experienced no problems in the past year of living here.

Bugs: I have not seen any bugs in my apartment. A pest control company has done preventative maintenance three or four times since we have been here.

Buildings: The buildings are very nice. We have had no problems with leaks or mold. The apartments are very quiet inside. Once in a while, we hear something from outside through the windows.

The buildings were refaced a few years back and look much better than the original work.

Parking: There is plenty of parking available. I don't know why some of these people are complaining about paying for reserved parking spots. It is an option that hardly anyone uses. You don't need a reserved spot here. There are plenty of spaces up for grabs at the end of the day.

They did change policy with guest parking and the towing company last year. I don't see the tow truck even half as much as I did a year ago.

Service: the office staff is friendly and helpful. Our dishwasher needed to be replaced. The maintenence guy was prompt and kept in touch with us while we were waiting for the new appliance to be delivered.

Rent is going up but it is going up everywhere. I'd rather be close to work than run away to Leesburg for cheaper rent and have pay the difference at the gas pump.

Immigrants: Welcome to Washington DC. Everyone who added their racist comments obviously didn't grow up here and should return back to where they came from.

In sumary: I enjoy living here. I am proud to live at Stuart Woods and Herndon. I do reccomend this community to my friends and family.

To everyone who wants to complain: please don't trash my home with your immature, emotionally charged comments.

Room For your $$$
From the time that I have moved in, to today, I can't say that I have any complaints. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment that has lot's of space, is quiet and so far, I haven't experienced any problem neighbors. The only maintenance problem that I've had was the garbage disposal stopped working. I called the office for repairs and they came the following day and replaced it. For the money I pay for the room I have, you can't beat this place and everyone who works here seems to genuinely care, which seems to be on the rare side of customer service these days...

Not what I bargin for
I moved in on May 2003, the rent was high but I was over quified for low income at the time. I had to have a higher salary. This brings me to the person next to me. in the time I was there I had to call the police 2 times and other people had to call the police on him on a number of other times. He even try to break into my place. He was jobless. why did I have to have a certin income level and the state pay his. It took 4 months to get him kicked out.
I was told there is a concrete between the floors and you cant hear the person above you. That is falise. I heard the people up above me many times then running playing jumping etc.. and the person next to me I hear all the time even when they were fighting and the breaking of dishes.
Maintenance is sloppy at what they do, they dont fix it right the first time. washer/dryer are nosy. not enough counter space and the microwave takes up a lot cause they hand if from a cabinet.
I wont recommend this place.

Good Place To Live
I'm quite surprised at the amount of bad reviews on this website. As someone previously posted, it's probably just complainers that have nothing better to do. We have had a good experience here. The office staff is always friendly and helpful. Anytime we have had a problem and have to call maintenance, they are there within hours and the problem is fixed. Sound seperation between apartments is great. The apartment itself is impressive... carpet and appliances all look new.

Customer Service is Horrible
I came through the door for a tour of an apartment, as I'm looking at several for my new home. I was told, quite rudely, by a woman to 'Sit down, I'll be with you in a minute.' Ten minutes roll by and she took 2 phone calls (one of them DEFINITELY sounded personal!)while I was there, sitting on the sofa. After she hung up the phone, someone came rushing out of an office and told her to 'Come here I have to tell you something.' They left and I heard laughing in the office. After that was done, she went back to her desk and asked me 'Can I help you.' She didn't even come over to where I had been sitting for over 15 minutes! I said, "No thank you." and left.

Horrible customer service, in my opinion!!

I actually LIKE living here!
I don't understand all these complainers on this website. We've been here almost 6 months and really like it. Our apartment is the largest one bedroom I've ever seen (something like 940 square feet). Not only do we enjoy the space but there's a big closet that's perfect for 2 people. Best of all, we have a really nice wooded view. Granted we did have to pay $15 extra for the view, but it's totally worth it to have the peaceful setting.

As for some of the issues brought up on this website, I like my neighbors, they all seem to be respectful and mostly professionals.

Happy Here
Not quit sure why some people feel the need to complain about everything. I've been here for almost three years and have had absolutely no problems whatsoevet. Nothing is perfect and when these cronic complainers move somewhere else, they will see that for themselves. Unfortunate things happen when you live in an apartment. I bhave had two small problems and when I called to have the maintenance come, they were done within the next day. Everyone is so friendly and professional. I am always met with a friendly face whenever I needed to go into the office and they even let me take my dog in there. I'm willing to lay some money down that when these complainers go somewhere else, that place will end up on this site as well listing all the problems they've experienced. Get a life and learn to relax!!
