Dont Rent Here
My lease is up this month and i couldnt be happier. The day we moved in there was a hole in the shower and we had to wait two days for it to be fixed. Two weeks later water rained down on us from the top floor. I have heard of other apartments putting you up in a hotel or even talking to you about what is happening. This didnt happen. And we had to live for one week in a wind tunnel with all the fans blowing all over the place, cowering in the bedroom since that was the only place not affected. I know this kind of thing happens sometimes, but, we just got the feeling that they really didnt care about what happened to us. What the last person said is true..the bathroom is gross. And the washing machine is SO NOISY. When the vents are blowing there is a smell of poo. There are lots of yucky bugs. I asked for a place with sunshine coming in and they assured me that all of the apts get sun. I ended up in a place where the sun dont shine. They said the appliance would be new and they werent. They come in the apt all the time with no warning. And to top it all off they raised the rent $85 in one year. I found a better place for less money and two bathrooms instead of one just 10 minutes away. They just shouldnt charge so much for so little.<br>Oh, and i almost forgot. There is a big ugly pipe in the closet and there are dirty socks tied around it. I guess cause it leaks and this made me very nervous about putting my clothes in there.

Stay away
Well I just moved in and I am already looking for a new place. This apartment is nothing like the model. The fridge is a small and old. The cabinetry along the dinig room was taped instead of the customary nails that most people are accustomed to. There is a huge crack running down the middle of the living room ceiling. The walls are badly patched and wavy. Yes, wavy. There has aparently been some water damage and the walls look like wet paper that has been painted over. The bathroom is disgusting. The worst thing is when we tried to move our couch (a normal sized couch) in it wouldn't fit and aparently we are not the only ones who has had this problem but management fails to tell you this when your signing on the dotted line. The layout is absolutly --------. There is hardly a presence of maintenace. I see the trash cans sitting for day before be emptied which is pretty awful when you are trying to take a walk and you are blown away by the smell of dog crap. This place my have a nice location and price but not worth it. And about the little havana comment is racist. Keep that stuff to yourself.

If they cared it didn't show!
I think the place is barely okay. The management has been unresponsive and if they do respond it is with a half-assed effort. No security issues and I live with a young woman, the other neighborhoods around are worse for that. Dirty halways and rickety appliances make for your stay at SW. The heating and AC are terrible, maybe it was our building but it never stayed one tempature for more than 5 minutes. They need new windows and AC/Heat ducts, not just an overuse of ducttape! It also took us about a month to finish replacing our maintanence door , while we had bugs in for company. Workers come in without knocking and come in and don't leave notification, not cool! worst of all the Property Manager is a B*t%@ and smiles while she is screwing you backwards. Whatever, you win some and you lose some. I like the accessability to highways and shops from SW (and the W/D), but for the money and the hassles it ain't worth it. Plus it is in the middle of little Havana, no offense, but come on Herndon.

HORRIBLE - RUN AWAY
This is the worst place I have ever lived - even in college. Major bug problem - roaches, ants, general creepy crawlers. I have never seen a roach prior to living in this complex, and I worked in restaurants for 4 years. The workmanship is cheap, and low grade. Apartments have been remodeled, but incorrectly - gapping holes along base line, cracks, looks like the walls have been painted over 20 times, cheap cabnients as well as appliances. Liter throughout the yards. Taken over a month to put a new door on our water heater storgae closet. General staff in pleasant enough, but managment is very rude and unwilling to work with tenants!! Bad smell through out. Bascially you get what you pay for - pay a little more and be happy. Once again do not rent here!!!!!!!!!

it was okay - saw 1 roach in 4 yrs (& it was in the exterior hallway)
I believe this property has come a long way since, but at the time it was cheap enough to get us on our feet, though in the early 90s is was a bit rough. Tamarack Way was in the "Crime" section of the paper on a weekly basis. Car break-ins, drug busts and even one murder, if I remember correctly.

love it
i see all these bad reviews, what are these complaints about? try living in alexandria or falls church if you think our visitor parking rules are strict! we've never had a problem, any place that will let you write your own visitor pass is great! and bugs? i haven't seen any, maybe an occaisionally small ant by the back door. and there couldn't be a pet friendlier place, dogs and cats are everywhere and treated wonderfully by staff and fellow residents. we haven't had any noise problems, the apt is beautiful outside, bright inside, good working appliances. yes, there was some mold one time on the window sill, which i cleaned with bleach and it never came back. compared to other apartment communities, this one is fabulous!

Bugs and Parking Issues
I currently reside at Stuart Woods. The staff is very friendly and will try to accomodate your needs. They have a very strict leasing policy and if you try to get out of your lease it will cost you... beware. <br> <br>The apartments themselves are not great. They are rather dark because there are not a lot of windows. I can hear my neighbors next to and above me. I have found roaches in my apartment in spite of keeping it very clean. At times, I have had difficulty getting maintence to come to my apartment. <br> <br>The worst issue is parking. Although parking for residents is not bad, visitor parking is a problem. All overnight visitors are required to park in visitor parking and have a hang tag filled out. The visitor must also submit part of the hang tag which is to be completed with information about the visitor to the leasing office. If your visitor doesn´t have a tag they have to leave a note on their vehicle. If these proceedures are not followed to the letter...your visitor´s car WILL BE TOWED. My friend had his car towed more than once in spite of parking in visitor parking (at $90 a pop). In addition to the aggrevation this policy causes, I also think this is a violation of privacy. <br> <br>Stuart Woods has also initiated a policy of assigned parking where you pay an additional $50 just to park in the same spot. I think this policy is crap because it amounts to an additional $600 a year. <br> <br>I will not be renewing my lease.

Roaches and a very non-pet friendly place
Apartments are large size but they are half full of roaches...despite many calls to management and their poor sprays it didn´t solve the problem. <br> <br>Staff in the leasing office is also very non-friendly esp. the manager. <br> <br>It is not a place worth wasting your time and money....look for something else. <br> <br>Few pets in the area and people don´t like them and often complain for no good reason.

IT´S LIKE LIVING IN ---- GERMANY
$50 per month for a reserved parking space? What a crummy way to make a buck. If they´re going to charge anything, it should be $50 per YEAR. Hello???----these are not the newest apartments around and we´re living here so we can pay reasonable rent; and now $600 extra per year for PARKING? What´s next - a monthly charge for walking on the sidewalk???? CRUMMY POLICY - I WILL NOT RENEW MY LEASE!!!

It´s a really nice place, why are these people complaining?
I really don´t understand what the fuss is all about! The office staff is really, REALLY friendly and my apartment is great. The closets are incredible and I have a full-size washer/dryer (not a dinky mini one like I had in my last place). <br> <br>I think they are doing a nice job of keeping the complex looking good, they renovated the outside and it looks nice.

We got out!
OK place to live but there are much newer and cleaner places to live in the Herndon/Reston area. We stayed threw the term of our lease because it was the rite thing to do... not because we wanted to. In the course of the year here is my summery: <br>We saw one HUGE roach three months before the end of the lease.(that was the only one ever) <br>The kitchen was outfitted with old 70´s appliances. <br>The outside of the apartments look terrible on the backside community. <br>People at the management office were all very nice and seemed to genuinely care about the tenants. <br>The paint in the apartments is an off-white, and there are limited windows so the apartments stays very dark year round. <br>Electric and water bills were reasonable. <br>There is cable internet connections threw Cox Communications. <br>Parking is great. <br>Backs up to a Sugar Land Run (great park)for biking and joging <br>HOWEVER - We moved to a much nicer / newer apt. right down the road for a minimal rent increases. Look around before you sign on the dotted line. I would not reccomend this place to friendds or family. <br> <br>

ROACHES EVERYWHERE, THE PROPERTY MANAGER IS RUDE
I cant say one good thing about Stuart Woods <br>they moved me into a roach infested building with a refridgeorator that didn´t work and moved me into 2 different one bedroom apartments when their was my roommate and I living there. Then the property manager said she would change the locks on us to the one bedroom and the roach apartment if we didn´t agree to move into the same roach infested building. This was the worst experience of my life we moved a total of 5 times until we got out of there and moved 1 mile up the street to waterside apartments.

Pay extra to live better than this
I have been here 2 1/2 months. So far the when it got down to 45 I flipped on the heat and it smelled like bugs frying on a halogen lamp. It was so bad the smoke alarm went off and I had to call the fire department at 10:30 on a Sat night. When I told the main office they ask why I didn´t tell them first. How was I supposed to know why the apt was filled with smoke. <br>* I have a colony of ants in my kitchen. <br>* There is a 6 foot underground colony outside my apartment. <br>*The w/d and d/w are too LOUD. <br>*Maintaince men barely speak English. <br>*I can hear the guy upstairs taking a leak. <br>Move somewhere else!!!!!

VERY BAD EXP....
I have lived in many apartments, and by large this is the worst. The heating was very bad in winter - it used to burn if it was a bit high or get too cold if lowered. My infant son suffered a lot due to this. <br><br> <br><br>Had some insects visiting us in the fall season and the management said they would go away in winter. Only thing was those insects were croaking in the middle of the night in the bedroom - and we were asked by the management to sleep in the living room!!!!! <br><br> <br><br>And it leaked very bad when it rained. <br><br>We had a pool in the bedroom and and stunk so bad. <br><br> <br><br>We hardly slept in the bedroom for more than 5 months in the time we were there. <br><br> <br><br>Horrible experience. <br><br>

won´t recommend it
I didn´t have a chance to look when picking it from another state. So I was told to pay extra days to hold the room for me (when there were actually quite a few empty apartments available as I found out later). <br> <br>Since I live on the 2nd flr, my electricity bills are fine (20-50 bucks a month). <br> <br>

Could be better!
I have lived here for almost 3 years. Why? Because it´s 5 min from work!!! Would I recommend someone to live here, no not really. The sound between floors is horrible! I live on the bottom and every morning I hear my upstairs neighbor going to the bathroom. It´s getting really old! I haven´t had any problems with roaches, but the usual spiders, crickets and silverfish drive me nuts. The mold is all around the building exterior, I wish they would clean it up. Maintenance has been pretty decent. They usually come in the same day you call. The staff is alright, I like Judy the most. We complained about the outside lighting, particulary the one lamp post by our building being out, the response was that the lighting was controlled by the town of Herndon so they couldn´t fix it. Ultimately we kept complaining, so they just REMOVED the light fixture! Weird! There are plenty of other nice apartments around if you´re looking to rent. If you want affordability, then come here. I´m hoping to buy my first house this year, so I´ll be gone very soon!!! Yippy!

Don´t Even Think About It
Service sucks. You put in a work order in and they will get there when they are good and ready. Oh, ya when they do show up to fix a ceiling that is falling apart, they leave nice gift in your waste basket to let you know they have been there. <br> <br>Your electric bill is like playing a slot machine. Somestimes you win big and sometimes you win little. They only thing you can count on is inconsistancy. <br> <br>Don´t worry about taking a pet with you, because they provide some for you, a friendly cockroach will stop in to see you from time to time. <br> <br>Need I say more?!

Not bad...............
I´ve lived here a year, and comparing to other complexes, this one, by far, is the nicest. <br><br> <br>A few good points: <br>*The management is very friendly, and so far, very helpful (though I haven´t requested much). Julia is very sweet and has a great personality. Everyone in the office seems to care and say hello (even though it could be cause I´m dropping of the rent check..: )). <br>*The electric bill is charged fairly (individual meters) - no grouping together as in most complexes. In the summer my bill is around $30, the winter around $70. <br>*I hardly ever hear my neighbors (upstairs), which is a relief after previously living through the nightmare of thin ceilings. I do believe it when they say there is concrete between each floor. <br>*While the washer/dryer are a bit out of date - they are full size, though do leave detergent spots frequently. <br>*Most appliances are fairly new, as are the bathroom accessories. <br>*I´ve seen little to no bugs. <br>*The pool seems to be nice - though I´ve never been to it. <br>*Was able to bring my medium size dog (they take large dogs as well). <br>*Ground maintenance is nicely done - with a creek running through the complex. <br>*Great move in and second year deals. <br><br> <br>Some bad things... <br>*While a diverse group of tenants is nice, some groups tend to get louder as summer rolls around and the parking lot becomes a meeting/play our music loud spot. <br>*There is some kind of mold growing on the outside of some buildings. I don´t know why they don´t clean them.... <br>*Some people don´t clean up after their pets - which sucks! but that´s everywhere you go.... <br>*parking is getting worse - don´t know who owns all those cars. You have to get home early to get a spot remotely close to your building. <br><br> <br>Well, those are just a few thoughts. Though this isn´t the Ritz, I´ve been pretty happy here so far. But when the deals are up and the price goes back to normal - I will consider moving. It´s unbelievable having to pay $1,150 - $1,200, or whatever it will be, for a one bedroom apartment, when a mortgage can be less. <br><br><br><br>

Heard of MOLD or Fungal NURSERY?
You don´t need expertise in growing molds. It grows abundantly along tht windows and walls. Its very urgly looking black, green and water drains into the apartment during rain. <br> <br>The MOLD´s spores spread through your home causing various allergies. JUST BEWARE! <br> <br> <br>

Unfare rents
The rent increase for people living there for a long time is unfare, for some people renewing the lease, they give a better deal, for some they don´t <br> <br>People who having been staying there for more than 2-3 years get a bad deal when compared to people who move in newly. <br> <br>The apartment interiors are old and they do not do anything to keep the interiors up to date.
