Not bad, maybe a little overpriced
We're moving out after two years at Chase Gayton due to my being transferred to another state. In general the apartments are pretty good. They're older, which means they're bigger and built sturdy, with less of a problem with neighbor noise than newer places. The flipside of that is an increased incidence of maintenance problems, but fortunately the maintenance staff is excellent.

The biggest single problem we've had at our place is that the building is very poorly insulated. Our electric bills are running $150 a month in the winter just from trying to keep our bedroom warm, and you can practically hang meat in the master bedroom closet! Other than that, the apartment itself has been great.

The grounds are OK, nothing special, but (mostly) well-lit and safe. The office staff is great and has been good to us. One thing to watch for is spikes in the rent price--we're paying $829 this year and they wanted to raise our rent all the way up to $999! Even if we weren't moving, that alone would force us out. I think they want to renovate our building and put in newer appliances so they can jack up the rent.

I happen to love the New manager and the staff at Chase Gayton. The property has and is still going through many different changes and the new manager is changing the complex for the better. The grounds look better and they have replaced the roofs and now even the doors to the buildings. These are things that the old managers where not taking care of. Yes the prices have gone up but as long as the property is changing for the better and keeps changing i expect them to go up a bit. The other office staff are always a great help and have great attitudes, the maintenance staff always fixes things in a timly matter. I have lived here for 6 years and do not plan on going anywhere!

The new manager is awful!
She is not very friendly and makes you feel like you've asked a stupid question. She doesn't smile or act like she likes her job. Her staff seems really nice but I hate dealing with the manager.

FEES FEES FEES
LIVED IN A 3 BR. WATER BILL WAS $40 PER MONTH. WHO USES THAT MUCH WATER. GOT A FAUX BILL EACH MONTH FROM SOME COMPANY THAT BILLED THE APT COMMUNITY WHO THEN TURNED AROUND AND BILLED THE TENANTS. I AM PRETTY SURE PRICE GOUGING IS GOING ON. MOVED OUT RECENTLY WAS CHARGED OVER 90$ FOR MY FINAL WATER BILL...AND THE LAST MONTH WAS ONLY A PARTIAL MON!!!! ALSO, THEY TRIED TO BE SNEAKY AND CHARGE ME $15 FOR THE TRANSFER OF ELECTRICITY. IF I PAY THE $15 FEE TO TRANSFER ELECTRICITY TO DOMINION POWER, WHY WOULD I HAVE TO PAY THAT FEE TO CHASE GAYTON AS WELL!!!! THAT SHOULD BE PAID BY THE NEW TENANT THAT MOVES IN!!!

NEW MGMT IS HORRIBLE AND WILL TRY TO GET AS MUCH MONEY OUT OF YOU AS POSSIBLE!!!!

Pretty Nice
Lived here for almost a year. Office staff is great, very friendly and helpful. Maintenance is always prompt and has fixed any issues i've had. The noise is minimal for an apartment (you can't expect to live in an apartment and not have any)! It's well lit and grounds are well kept.
I've enjoyed my time here thus far and it's one of the nicest places i've lived which says something since i've been in apartments for about 8 yrs now.

Good until the end
I had a fabulous time there until the very end. The complex has changed owners and it's going downhill fast. I was charged for something after a move-out inspection when I was told by another person that I wouldn't be.

I also had an appointment one day during normal business hours. From 1 p.m. to 2:30 I sat on the steps waiting for someone to show up. The guy just didn't bother to show up for work. A lot of people were also there and very very very MAD.

As for living there, it was awesome. But I think with new owners, it isn't gonna be awesome much longer.

A

The best apartment my daughter and I have lived in.
I have lived at a few apartments in my life and this is by far the BEST. Being a parent I value certain things differently. The elementary school my daughter goes to is AWESOME. THe place is very pretty (especially in the fall) and well kept. The parking and outside of the buildings are ALWAYS lighted and the hallways are ALWAYS clean. The is a VERY safe and friendly place to be. Even the staff in the rental office is great. They may not always answer your call right away, but if you leave a message they get back with you promptly. The apartment complex is close to everything including 2 grocery stores, a bank, liqour store and a blockbusters. For me the price of the apartment is a bit high, but then you take into the fact the their is an awesome pool, gym, tanning bed, pool table and sauna availabe then the price seems justified. I'm very pleased with my apartment and will stay here till im able to buy my own house.

Great Place in Perfect Location
My husband and I have lived here for two years now and we love it! The location is really terrific...near Short Pump Town Center, movies, Kroger, Ukrops, Blockbuster, etc. The community is quiet and safe! We have never had an issue with any of our neighbors; everyone is courteous to each other. Also, maintenance is AWESOME! The few times that we have called in with a problem, it was fixed the same day! The ammenities are great...tennis court just got refinished...tanning bed is almost new...work out room got new equipment...billiards table is nice...pool is great! If you're looking for an affordable, nice, and quiet apartment in the West End, then Chase Gayton is your best choice!

Great place to call home for the last 5 years
I have had the pleasure of living at Chase Gayton for the past 5 years. The office and maintenance staff were always responsive and a great to work with. I have just put an offer on a house, but will miss the "easy living" style of this place. (especially the tanning bed)
I will continue to recommend Chase Gayton.

Not a Happy Former Resident
My experiences at this apartment community were not good. I lived on the first floor, and had a man that lived above me and never slept. I would wake up at one in the morning to him pacing, and I wouldn't fall back asleep until around four. The office staff (I talked to EVERYONE THERE) and they did nothing and acted like it was just something I had to deal with. I had a problem with that--I was paying rent and not ever sleeping!!!! The apartments are old, and I had roaches in mine. My recommendation, is look somewhere else.

excellent
I have lived here for over two years with hardly any issues . Repairs that I have needed have always been done quickly and most importantly done correctly. The entire staff is friendly and professional. For the price range this is a good choice for anyone that wants a good clean and quiet place to live.

We have lived at Chase Gayton for over two years. As difficult as it may be to believe, there as not been one single issue that has not been resolved to our satisfaction. The staff is extremely attentive and better yet, friendly. The property is quiet, no loud cars, music, kids, etc...Overall a really great place to live.

Good place
It is currently December 2004; I moved here in May 2004 and I just want to say that the staff here has been wonderful so far! Maintenance has also been very good - I had a leak in my bathroom from my upstairs neighbor and they fixed it the same day that I called them. The grounds are very well taken care of, especially considering there are lots of dogs here. The tennis courts were recently shut down due to a big crack in the concrete - hopefully after the winter season they'll repair it - didn't ask so I don't know if it's already in the plans or not. I would definitely recommend this place!
