So I've lived at Chanticleer and their sister property and have to say that I prefer Chanticleer out of the two. After reading some of the reviews posted, I decided to post my own. The location is really great and is close to the beach and shopping. As far as my town home, I haven't had any complaints so far. Yes, I do have maintenance issues that do occur (as does any apartment complex), but they usually get taken care of quickly. If it is more than just a simple fix, the office staff is good at keeping us updated on whatever is going on. I haven't had any leaking pipes or appliances, but taking a step back after reading some of these reviews, everyone has to realize that you cannot predict when a problem is going to happen, you can just hope they get taken care of quickly. The complex is a little dated and some appliances do show some use, but everything works fine. The complex is very pet friendly and from walking my dog around, the neighbors always wave and say hi. Every complex is going to have it's issues and there will always be a resident that is upset at something and wants to take it out on the complex, but for me Chanticleer has been good place to live and I will probably be here for awhile.

First let me explain. The Location is what sells this place. Its close to the beach, decent schools and restaurants. Also Pet Friendly. The maintenance crew is solid and the Front Office are "Corporate" Now imagine coming home to OUT DATED Appliances, Cheap Carpet and an OLD PLUMBING SYSTEM. That equals a leaky ceiling, toilet, or dishwasher. Could be either one or ALL at any given time. If it leaks on your carpet. You have to get it cleaned yourself. Try the office first but Good Luck. Can not forget the OUTDATED ELECTRICAL SYSTEM that will have your PowerBill around 150-300 daily! Because in the Summer the AC never quits because the OLD Structure never cools the upstairs because of outdated AirFlow system..Downstairs could feel like 65 F and upstairs 110 F. The maintenance crew told me to buy a separate window Ac to cool upstairs. Really with $1100 in Rent Alone. Now Winter comes same problem. But wait lets use the Fireplace that's suppose to be cleaned and inspected Before a New resident moves-in NEVER WAS. When I asked the Office to have it cleaned it took 1Month to get a REPLY. They said they would but never did. The Question remains, why move in? Well the Model Home FOOLED ME and its Pet Friendly. This isn't just the "TowneeHome" I stayed in, it's in the entire complex.Previous neighbors who moved out said the same thing. (I should have listened) ps. They kept my deposit because of the carper that their pipes and busted water-heater spilled on.

My husband and I have lived here for a little over a year now and we really like it. The maintenance guys are almost always there the day we request work, and they use Rent Cafe which makes it easy to pay rent and request maintenance. We heard our neighbors occasionally when we were in an apartment, but we haven't heard them at all since moving into a townhouse (and our neighbors even have a newborn). The location is great and the price is fantastic. My only complaint is a couple of the rows don't have enough visitor spots and sometimes the calls to the office are outsourced so instead of being able to just ask your question and be done, you have to listen to someone read their way through a ton of prompts. Overall, it's fantastic for the price and I would highly recommend it.

My wife and I have been living here for one year. I have to say that it has been a joy to live here, we just upgraded to a townhouse and are planning to stay for another year or two, however long work keeps us here. We have been more than impressed with both the office staff and the maintenance staff. While there are issues with the buildings from time to time (where are there not?), the maintenance guys are always here quickly and are incredibly helpful. We also enjoy being close to the beach as well as the hilltop shopping center at a very reasonable price.

We've been here for just over 4 months, and it's been alright so far. When we moved in we noticed the paint job was fair to poor. There was tape still on appliances and paint frost over things that should have not been paint. The cupboards under both downstairs sinks were stained and moldy looking. But we noted it on our list. The closet space isn't much, a small coat closet by door and then 2 thin linen closets upstairs, but you really can not place much on them. The upstairs floor is very squeaky and we can hear our neighbors in their rooms as well. Also some morning we hear alarm clocks or phones. The office staff seems friendly enough, the only complaint is when a fedex package was delivered to them and not my home, I was not notified and it sat at the office for 3 days until I called fedex inquiring about my package.

Just moved here recently and I'm happy so far. It's nice living close to the beach and around plenty of places to eat and shop in less than a mile. I feel the price is really good, especially for a 2 bd 2.5 ba townhouse (2 floors). There is a ton of closet spaces, decent size kitchen, and the bedrooms are both big enough to fit mostly anything in there. Appliances are fairly new except for the dishwasher, which doesn't really bother me as long as it does the job (which it does). I think the end units come with a fireplace and most of the others have a Back door leading to a little patio area. The windows to the back door are frosted, so you can't see outside (but also helps with no glare hitting your tv). I don't mind this so much, but I kind of wish there was another window to get a little airflow downstairs, there's only one located in the kitchen. You get your own designated parking spot and there are usually plenty of parking close by, at least where I am located. Our unit comes with a stackable washer/dryer which is nice to have and there are several laundry facilities spread out through the complex. I have been to the pool as a guest before I live here and it's a decent size, clean area. You get to access the gym and other amenities over at Linkhorn Bay also, for a 1 time fee of $60. The area overall seems safe, at least I see plenty of people walking around during the day and at night. Dogs are welcome so be careful where you step in the grass areas if you catch my drift. There's only 1 dumpster area in the facility which I think is a bit odd seeing how many units there are, and it can get backed up pretty bad sometimes. There's an occasional bug here or there, but nothing I haven't encountered at my previous apartments I have lived at in VA or elsewhere. The staff is fantastic, really nice and they follow up on repairs which I think is pretty cool. We had to get a few things fixed when we moved in and maintenance usually came out that day or the next at te latest. No problems with neighbors either, and I rarely hear any noise through the walls. Overal it's a nice place with plenty of different style models to choose from that's located in a great spot in VA Beach.

I've lived here for about a month now and I must say that I'm loving it. We noted a few things on our move check sheet and maintenance came out that day to fix/address them. What they couldn't get fixed that day, they came back the next day with the appropriate tools/parts to fix it. Neighbors don't seem all that bad. They mostly keep to themselves but so do we. My girlfriend and I routinely take walks around the neighborhood in the evening and never feel unsafe. On one of the negative reviews, they noted dog crap everywhere. They provide doggy waste bag stations along the sidewalks so any "leftovers" is just people being lazy. They also noted mold. I can't imagine that if I went into the office with pictures of the mold that they would turn me away. They have always been welcoming and courteous to complaints. I saw one cockroach in the kitchen a week after we moved in but we spent $20 at home depot and laid out some bait that is advertised to kill a whole nest. Haven't seen one since. All the people that complain about the bugs... you live in Virginia. Take some sort of proactivity and kill/deter them. One of my only complaints is the age of the dishwasher. It would be nice to have something newer but when you rent, that's just the kind of thing you have to deal with.

Walls-Paper thin!! Maintenance-HORRIBLE!! Laundry rooms-NO UP KEEP, DIRTY, TEENAGER DRUG USE HANG OUT!!! I have reported this place to the BBB for not helping us when there own dumb maintenance people flooded our apartment!! When i first moved in the neighbors next to me where growing weed in their apartment. My apartment stunk from the smell!! Backyards here are horrible! Drafts through the back doors so during winter its freezing in the bedroom. I currently have mold in my apartment and they are doing nothing about it. Ive asked to be moved into another apartment or get break our lease. They told me the mold was "dust". Anyone ever seen black and green dust?! Exactly! THIS PLACE BLOWS!!!! DONT MOVE HERE!!!! We came to Chanticleer in February 2011 mostly because of the proximity to my work and they allow "big" dogs. From the moment we came into the office, Andy was a helpful joy. She led us through the process without so much as a hiccup. We decided a two bedroom would be sufficient and when we moved in we were completely satisfied. HUGE master bedroom, very nice sized other, clean, and a beautiful view of the forest out of our lovely French doors. We later decided to move into a three bedroom as my sister relocated to the area and just wanted a little more room for all of us. When we approached Andy with the need to "upgrade" to a larger townhouse, (mind you our original lease was not up for renewal quite yet), she showed us our options and allowed us to choose which property we would like. Awesome. Easy change, easy move. We loved the three bedroom. Big kitchen, dining room, all bedrooms were more than sufficient. Loved it. The clubhouse and pool they offer are fantastic, neighborhood is quiet with lots of families with children playing in the cutest play area. Everyone with dogs are friendly and do well with keeping the place clean. The grounds are beautiful with the Crepe Myrtles about to bloom. They alone, are worth the drive through on your way to talk with Andy. We recently purchased our very first home and the people of Chanticleer were so happy for us and helped us with the transition painlessly. This is my ONLY reason for leaving. Why wouldn't anyone want to live somewhere affordable, clean, quiet, close to the beach and all the best shopping the area has to offer??? If you need somewhere to call home, try them out.I don't think you will be disappointed. It's sad to read negative reviews about a place that doesn't deserve it. Not everyone in the world is going to be happy everywhere, but also remember a majority of people who have great experiences don't share them as they would with a negative experience. I know this first hand as a manager of a local restaurant. Again, go see Andy, get some info, try them. You'll love it!!! P.S. the windows in the units are awesome, block out 99% of the jet noise. I personally love it and what it stands for. Makes me feel extra safe. You get the idea!! :)

DON'T EVER LIVE HERE!! THIS IS HELL ON EARTH!!! THE STAFF WILL LIE TO YOU AND SHOW YOU A PRETTY MODEL OF WHAT YOU THINK YOU WILL LIVE IN BUT IT IS A LIE. I LIVED HERE FOR 1 YR AND I HATED EVERY 365 DAYS OF IT. I LIVED ALONE BUT I DIDNT KNOW I WOULD BE LIVING WITH WATER BUGS. I PRATICALLY SEEN ONE IN MY HOUSE EVERY DAY (NO LIE) THEY WERE IN THE SHOWER, ON MY BED WHEN I CAME HOME FROM WORK. I DIDN'T EVEN LIKE COOKING BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID IT WOULD BE IN MY FOOD. MY CAR WAS BROKEN INTO AND THEY TOOK MY STEREO. I TOLD THE STAFF AND ALL I GOT WAS "IM SORRY, DID YOU FILE A POLICE REPORT?" MY SHOWER DRAIN WAS ALWAYS CLOGGED. MY HALF BATH TOILET ALWAYS OVERFLOOD WHICH MADE THE FLOOR BOARDS ROT. IN THE WINTER, NO MATTER HOW HIGH I TURNED MY HEAT UP, I WAS ALWAYS COLD BECAUSE THE WINDOWS ARE CHEAP AND IT HAD MOLD AND MILDEW AROUND IT. THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN, I HEARD MY NEIGHBORS HAVE SEX ALMOST EVERY NIGHT. THERE IS JET NOISE ALL DAY AND NIGHT. SO DONT EXPECT TO SLEEP IN ON A SATURDAY MORNING. OVERALL, THIS LIVING HERE WAS A LIVING NIGHTMARE. I COULDN'T WAIT TO MOVE OUT. MY ADVICE, KEEP YOUR MONEY AND RUN. THEY MIGHT TALK A GOOD GAME BUT THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS. YOU WILL FEEL CHEATED OUT OF YOUR MONEY!!!!! DONT BELIEVE THE PREVIOUS POST OF HOW GREAT THIS PLACE IS. THIS REVIEW ONLY GOT 1 STAR BY DEFAULT. HOPE THIS HELP.....

This is a good apartment complex. The community is safe and the neighborhood is rather peaceful. For its location it is a great price and conveniently located. There was an issue with water bugs but after a visit from the exterminator on the offices dime it has been cleared up and have not seen a single one in 8 months. The maintenance is not the best but they are quick about answering calls and will do their best until the problem is resolved. The laundry is somewhat expensive and is in a small room in a building. The appliances are not the most up to date and could use updating but are all functional. For the price and location it is a very good appartment complex where someone can feel safe and live happily.

I have lived in Chanticleer since 2012. I recently transferred from a one bedroom to a two bedroom. The apartments were nice and clean when I moved in. Anytime I had an issue with the apartment (I have very few), they were there to fix it within 24 hours. The office staff is very friendly and is always available to answer any questions or concerns I may of had. I really haven't had many complaints about the community. I feel safe and everything has run smoothly since I started living there.

I've lived at Chanticleer for over a year and have renewed my lease. I had an issue with my AC and within a day the problem was fixed with a new AC unit installed. The parking is a bit tight, if there's 2 bedrooms there should be 2 assigned parking spaces. All in all it's not a bad place to live and I'd reccommend it to friends. The office and maintenance people are friendly as well.

I find this prior post to be ridiculous. I have lived in the same complex almost (2) years and have never had the same issues. Roaches are generally a personal cleanliness issue. Also, this person posted anonymously which is absurd if it was truly that bad. The few maintenance requests I have submitted have been answered in less than an hour. I would not take the prior post seriously. They probably don't even pay on time.

I'm currently living in the townhouse and it's horrible! My electrical bill is btw $130-$190 !I have problem with my ac/heater and the only think that the maintenance is doing is taping it!!!FOR THE last two months they've been coming every week to cover the holes in the heater pipe with tape!I also have a leak from the ceiling !Every single time when I am taking a shower is dripping downstairs from the ceiling! The maintenance try to fix it ones...but unfortunately did not last long!!! I also have to make them isolate the french doors! When it is windy outside if I stay inside btw the fire place and the french doors it feels like I am standing outside!!!Before to isolate the french doors I got a problem with the roaches! Now at least I got rid of them after I spend hundreds of dollars for sprays and roach traps!!!

This place is close to the beach, shopping, and schools, so I'll give it that. Do NOT be fooled by the model, your apartment definitely doesn't look like that. We had/have old outdated appliances, and some had to be replaced. Parking is a nightmare if you have more than one car. You get one designated space, and there are few "free" spaces in the lot, otherwise there is street parking, which I do not recommend. I just got over an ordeal with a $70 parking ticket from the city (right outside my building!). Noise is an issue. The jet noise is too much, and the walls are thin, so expect to hear when your neighbors are watching TV or listening to music. Friday and Saturday nights are party time outside, so don't have your windows open unless you want to hear it. Grounds, for the most part, are very nice, with the exception of the dog feces that people don't pick up. The laundry room is dirty and the washer/dryers barely work and are way overpriced. We've been having a problem with roaches, although we put maintenance requests online (it says the work has been "completed"....it hasn't), the problem still exists. Haven't seen too much crime, but I have seen some drug deals in the neighborhood. The workers are nice though. Let me say that we are anticipating the day that our lease is up. This place is not worth the money we pay.

Moved into this place for only one day...actually only two hours before we went back to office and demanded our money back. The "model" looks nothing like the actually townhouses. Not even sure where to begin with this review. Walls have obviously been painted over several times and were terrible. The door jambs were damaged and dirty. The air condition air filters looked like they were never changed...ever. Noticed a bubble in the carpet and if i wanted to I easily could have pulled up the carpet throughout the whole downstairs. Under the pulled up carpet it was dirty and the padding underneath was incomplete. The appliances are old even though the advertise remodeled kitchens in 2006. They also advertise luxury, which this place is most definitely not! Unlike the new and better place we chose these people did not walk through our townhouse with us, nor did they go over the contract with us. What they called "going over the contract" was read this sign here and any questions. We were not looking for absolutely spectacular by any means but this place is a dumb and disgusting!!! I highly suggest picking another place! BTW I have never written a review before, but I chose to warn others to stay away!!

satisfied tenant
I am very satisfied with my stay so far at Chanticlear! It all started before I even signed my lease. Andrea who works in the office is one of the most professional and caring representatives that I have come across with any company(and trust me, I've dealt with a lot of other rental properties and I admit that I am not the easiest consumer to deal with.)She went out of her way to personally show me and my wife various properties that would suit us best.We were interested in a town house that we were shown but we wanted to explore all other options in the area before we made our decision.Andrea understood and reassured us that If we decided on Chanticleer she would be here for us.She gave us her cell phone, office number, and E-mail and told us to contact her anytime and she would be there to assist us.After we started to explore other properties, I knew right away that Chanticleer is where we wanted to call home.I e-mailed Andrea That night around 8 o-clock(way after office hours) and she immediately emailed me right back that night and set up an appointment for us to meet the next day.We signed the lease that day. To this day it has been one of the best decisions me and my wife have made.WE love our place and plan on living here for many years! Any minor issues that we have faced,we called Andrea and she has personally made sure it was taken care of right away.I have rented numerous places in va beach and dealt with a lot of problems and headaches in the past. It has been a blessing to actually live at a complex where the staff treats us like gold and actually cares about us even after the lease was signed!I want to personally thank Andrea and the rest of the Chanticleer staff for doing such a great job! They have exceeded all of my expectations! Thanks!

Management is writing reviews
Parking - not well lit, but it is ample including on street, you do have one assigned parking spot Noise - jet noise is horrible, walls are thin Grounds - grounds are kept decent for an affordable property, alleys and laundry rooms need some help, we need more flowers Construction - pretty cheap, but better than others in this price range Maintenance - horrible and rude Staff - they're rude, not the worst but not the best. . . defiantly not the best Overall I give it a 70/100. If you're looking for a 2 bedroom spend a little extra (if you can) and go to Herons Point (right next door) If you're moving from out of town, I'd recommend not being near the beach due to traffic and you can get more for your money else where

nice place
I've been living here for about six months and I really love the location. I live here with three of my friends/coworkers. I love the fact that it's close to where I walk. Where as before it would take me at least an hour to get to work because I walk, it now only takes me 20 minutes at most. I love the fact that it's relatively quiet at night. The neighbors are terrific. I don't hear my neighbors at all and that's a plus. I work early in the morning every day and go to school so it's nice to have that peace and quiet. The staff is always so friendly and maintence always fixes any problems may have. Aside from having an ant and bug problems when we first moved in, things have been good. The rent is a little high but I guess the price you get living so close the beach. I love that there is assigned parking and that there is always available space for guests. Overall, I realy like living here. It's a good community and everyone is always so friendly and it's a safe nieghborhood.

Great location: Friendly Customer Service:
Have lived in Chanticleer for approximately 3 years. Moved once to upgrad to a 4 bedroom from a 3. I love the area. It is very close to schools, my place of employment, the oceanfront, shopping, interstates, etc... My neighbors are quiet and friendly. Feel safe in the community which is important to me. I must also add that since I originally moved in, the maintenance department has improved and is appreciated.
