Please don´t move here.
This place is ridiculously disgusting.
I have only lived here for 3 months and I can not wait for this year to be up.

The property staff and manager are awful and the maintenance is worse. You have to call three of four times before anything gets done.

We have no shelves in our fridge or freezer, all our windows are moldy and lacking appropriate screens, every light fixture in the house is broken in some way, we have water bugs (close relation to roaches), the plumbing is so backed up we have sewage leaking out of the front of the house. I´ve gotten in the habit of just calling the office three times in a row, no one ever answers the phone. You leave three messages and someone will then return your call. Once your call is acknowledge someone will then state maintenance will be there as soon as they can. Usually equals around three or four weeks. If you have an extreme emergency (like the plumbing) they will only come out if there is standing water INSIDE your apartment. Otherwise it waits the above stated 3 weeks to get fixed.

Theres trash all over the complex, ducks going through all the garbage and adding to the mess.

We have had Jerry Springer episodes with our neighbors and you would think we were living around a bunch of three year olds. Although you can´t fault a complex for their tenants, you can acknowledge that they like to rent to immature people.

They told us when we moved in that the windows were being remodeled so we had to wait until then to get our windows fixed, I think a three month wait is all I can stand to put up with mold and mildew. It´s disgusting and harmful.

The air conditioning does not work enough to cool down the upstairs, so you sleep in complete heat. Can´t open a window, no screens.

The parking is not thought out very well.. three and four bedroom apartments can not expect to have only one car. Which is what they give us as a reserve. The rest of the cars have to fight with the neighbors, park on the streets, or pray to not get towed.

I will be contacting PRG Realty (the owner of this complex) to find out who I have to go to to get something done around here. If I don´t get anywhere from that, I will be contacting a lawyer to get me out of my lease.

All in all, and from what I have read at other apartment rating websites, I would advise no one moving here.
The staff,They Lie!!!! and are very lazy, and full of excuses!
We have been here 7 months now and their are still some problems. Ceiling has leaked in dinning room. Their fix is to recaulk the tub. DUH!! my father was a master plumber.I told them the leak is behind the wall, they do not listen. Still leaking one day the ceiling and tub will fall in dinning room. I guess that they will listen when I contact my attorney should my family get injured!

Our porch deck/fence was ripped down durning the hurrcaine. That was Sept. still not fixed, Leaking wall by windows in a bedroom now getting mold, that also on their list. Heck their list must be years long!

But they will always want the rent on time no excuse/ or delays,(not that I have had any problems)I just wonder maybe tenants should form a tenant group? anyone interested contact me by responding to this post.
I can sure tell you this, we lived in Phoenix for 3yrs prior to transfer here and the apt complex we came from really took pride in the grounds, customer service, as a matter of fact, if you requested maintenance and they did not respond within 24hrs you $25.00 off your next months rent! It is not rocket science to have good customer service just do it! If they took more pride here and stopped stonewalling people maybe these comments would not so negative on this website.
If I was asked will I renew my lease at this point I would have to say never! I am going to look for a private house to rent Now if i see changes in the staff and the way things are handled, then I would renew. If the staff ever takes the time the time to read these comments maybe they should begin to practice CUSTOMER SERVICE!! It is not rocket science or is it just that the staff is barely old enough to vote or drink and really does not give a hoot! Get responsible and grow up people!!

No thanks
I´m not going to repeat what all these other comments say, but I´ll just add that we had a hole in our ceiling for about 6 months while we waited for them to fix it... Made NUMEROUS calls. Recently they replaced the sockets in the house and now our power will surge every once in a while and I have to go flip the circuit breaker. Only thing keeping us in this place is that it´s a 4 bedroom townhouse for $1020/mo... we can´t really find that elsewhere, but I guess we get what we pay for. What sucks about it though is that we have 4 bedrooms because we have 4 people with 4 cars... and we still get one parking spot. Our parking spot has a number on it, but its got gunk all over it that has eaten away at the paint so it can´t even be seen at night, so now anyone parks there and I feel bad having them towed since they usually can´t read it. Only person I´ve had towed was my next door neighbor because he KNOWS that´s not his spot and parked there when it was pouring... I wasn´t gonna walk in the rain. As far as noise is concerned, I don´t really hear much from neighbors except in the middle of the day where some ------ people will yell at each other about whether one of them would be able to beat the other with a stick successfully or not. The thing someone said about the ducks getting in the trash... completely true. I don´t really feel threatened in the neighborhood, but most of the porch lights don´t work and never have, including mine. Our power bill is only about $200/mo... the insulation here SUCKS! When they were doing the renovations on my place, I heard the Spanish guys in the kitchen saying how they messed up with something in there and how they´d make sure not to do it that way again in the other apartments... I UNDERSTAND SPANISH YOU DOLTS! Yeah so I don´t even know what they did wrong or if it ended up being fixed but I definitely said something about it. The renovations sucked though, they come in your house for 2 weeks tearing everything apart and leaving you with no bathrooms or running water and then expect you to pay full rent on time...

Don´t even bother
I think it is a joke those 2 " positive" reviews. I have a feeling that the office staff probably through them in there to "bump" up their score. I highly recommend not to move in. it´s dirty and maintenance is lazy. The office takes FOREVER to get back to you to fix something. Place is falling apart! So much for the advertised "renovated apartments." They look nice..but apperances can be decieving. There´s mold on the walls and bugs everywhere! For the price you pay, this place is not worth it!

pay too much for so little
I lived here for 1 year, and already half way through my wife and i were ready to go. Within our first week we had roaches coming in from all sides. We have a one bedroom apt so it has no washer or dryer. The laundry facilities are very terrible. The washers and dryers are constantly broken and the rooms are extremely dirty. They closed down half of the laundry rooms so they could focus more on the others, but the remaining ones just got worse. Locks were installed on the doors, but the doors were just broken open through the frames. The grounds are especially dirty, and no one cleans them at all. If you live in an upstairs apt, there is no trash receptacle for you, so you are instructed to leave your trash right out in front of the building. There are many annoying ducks that roam the streets and tear through these trash bags spewing litter all over the place. This place is anything but quiet as you can hear you neigbors conversations easily. Parking is sparse, its supposedly "assigned." Someone parked in my spot, and my vehicle got towed because i parked in theirs. Water bills are paid uniquely here. All the water for the entire complex is added together and then divided by the size of your apartment. The down side to this is that if you are not home for a month, you still have to pay for everyone elses usage. Cable is also paid to the office. The down side to this is that you dont get a cable box, so you cant order premium channels or pay per views. We had one of the newly renovated apts, and the kitchen looks nice. But looks can be decieving. The dishwasher rattled the cabinets apart before our very eyes. WE complained to have them fixed and were told that the cabinet guys would have to fix them. Nothing ever happened with that. Maintnance seems to think everything can be fixed with caulk, holes, cracks, etc. Oddly we had bathroom tile in the living room... seems out of place doesnt it? Our phone would go in and out of service often. I think it was because the main phone box was in the laundry roos which was constantly vandalized. The wires to the phones are sticking right out for all to see. We had this metal box in our closet with 2 wires wrapped all around it, the were just twisted together at the ends. Upon further examination i found that the wire was live. I knew this only because when i touched it all the power went out to the apt. When i questioned the maintnance men, they had no idea what it was. it took them months to get around to remove the wiring, only after complaining that it was a fire hazard because it sparked. finally, i had one major pet peave with this place. no matter what pizza place you called, no one would deliver. they never heard of the place. i was always told to call the other one, and vice versa. pain in the --- if you ask me. overall, this place may look nice at first glance, and they can move you in quick. but take a closer look and ask yourself if it is really worth all the trouble.

I can´t wait for our lease to be up!
My husband and I moved in last year with high hopes! We just got married and this was our first "real place together". We are currently renting one of their Townhomes, which on the outside is very pretty and lovely. From the first day that we moved in there has been nothing but problems. It takes maintenance FOREVER to fix anything. And the office promises they will see to our issues right away, but it takes them days before we here back from them! When maintenance does come, they usually "fix" the problem incorrectly the first time..sometimes still wrong the 2nd time and so on until it gets "sort of fixed" or at least until we get tired of complaining. The office, I am determined hates us becuase of out constant complaining. But, from reading the other reviews...it looks like we are not the only ones complaining. We are now on our 3rd Property Manager since we moved in 8 months ago! It takes them FOREVER to fix something or to even return our calls when we complain.
Finally, after my husband and I had enough...I did my homework and found out the Regional Property Supvisor´s name and phone number. I talked with him and he was acutally very cool and understanding. It seems to me the only time we saw any real results was when I called him and he ended up calling the office himself! He even admitted how unhappy he was with Chanticleer! What does that tell you? Since this seems to be the only way to get something done, if you are living there now and want his contact information ....I will gladly give it to you! Just e-mail me at the above account!
Besides these issues, I have recently found mold in the bathroom, which explains why I have such a tough time breathing in the apartment! We also had a leak from our upstairs bathroom through our ceiling onto our furniture on the first floor. When we complained they came and "patched the ceiling". Which anyone who has a brain would know that won´t really fix the problem. DUH? The next time we ran water from the bathtub, the water went through the horrible patch job and now created a whole in the ceiling! Also, more recently we keep having someone park in our spot. There is only 1 towing company that Chanticleer has an agreement with and this towing company makes you sign a paper when they come and tow the car. The thing is, is that it takes them 2-3 hours before they come. Which has happend to us when we come home late at night. This means we have to STAY up and wait for the towing guy! We have complained numerous times to the office and they promised they will resolve the issue with the towing company! Also, another note...there is always garbage all over the grounds. I encourage you to drive around. It is so unattractive. We pay good $$ to not have this place look like a dump!
Needless to say, we are counting down the months until our lease is up!
The scary thing is, we have a friend that has worked at Chanticleer and he had nothing but bad comments!
This is a BIG WARNING...stay away or you will have nothing but endless headaches!!
P.S. They are currently advertising newly renovated apartments! Be careful..they are painting over mold and milder...which will eventually seep through the walls. It happend to us!! GROSS!

GHETTOCLEER
This place is by far one of the worst places to live in Virginia Beach. First of all the office staff is ran by a bunch of people who have an IQ of a first grader. If you ask one person something, then go in the next day and talk to someone else its a completly different answer. Not to mention they change management and staff about every month. Don´t plan on EVER getting your deposit back, they are remodeling and need the extra money to do it.....and you´ll pay for it. The maintence men come in about 1-2 weeks after you report a problem then once they "fix it" they leave a huge mess behind. And assigned parking? Right! Your ------ neighbor will steal it any chance they get and there is hardly any guest parking. Neighborhood thugs lean on your car like they own it. And by the way neighbors.....its like a 24-7 Jerry Springer episode. Cockroaches are infested in the walls and wherever else they can fit. The places are insilated with air, expect to pay about $200 a month for electric and thats if your AC or heat is working. The place is a --------, it should be condemned. IF YOU ARE WISE DON´T LIVE THERE, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!!!!!!!

oh my god! never again!
I lived here for about a year. My apartment was infested with roaches that came out of my electrical sockets and my overhead light fixtures. I complained and complained and the roaches kept comming. I had a serious problem with a navy guy that lived downstairs. He would kick my door in and my neighbors doors in. I was afraid of him and told management. They refused to do anything about the situation. They told me to handle it myself. The police department was involved numerous times and still no help from management. I finally moved out when a guests tires were slashed because I didn´t want to live in fear any longer. Management then got involved by trying to take me to court for damages to the door and breaking my lease. Only one good thing about the whole place was the phone in the bathroom that I could use to call the police when my I was forced to lock myself in there, due ot my psycho neighbor.
